[Bug 196386] [NEW] Change password hangs on palindrome

2008-02-29 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When user attempts to change password to a palindrome, gnome-about-me
hangs indefinitely, but can be cancelled.

`passwd` correctly warns about palindrome passwords, but this rare case
is not handled by the GUI.

Tested today (2/28/2008) on Gutsy 7.10.

Steps to repeat:

System-About MeChange password - [Authenticate] -

Type any palindrome, such as 'panamanap' or 'toot' into both new
password boxes, and press enter or click 'Change password'

The system should give a warning about palindrome passwords and allow
user to try a new password. Instead, it gives the appearance of working
in the background while not actually doing anything.

** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu)

 Status: New

[Bug 197085] [NEW] Gnome world clock shows wrong time

2008-02-29 Thread RobC
Public bug reported:

I am not sure if this is the right package, but the new clock with multiple
time zones puts Nashville TN in the wrong time zone. The gnome clock puts
Nashville in Eastern Standard Time, or Kentucky/Monticello. In fact, Nashville
is in Central Time, or Indiana/Chicago.
As a result, the time is one hour ahead of the correct time.

[Bug 194244] Re: evolution crashed with SIGSEGV in e_source_group_to_xml

2008-02-29 Thread Timothy G
Hi Basilio,

I tried with a new user account - same trace.
I tried with a sudo - same trace.
I tried with an --offline, and --disable-eplugin, same problem.
I tried an apt/remove/purge reinstall, same problem.
I manually rm'd all the evolution prefs, same problem.
I built from the latest unstable svn sources, seem to have the same problem.

I will try with the HH development releases and see what happens.

Thanks!

[Bug 151408] Re: gtk-preferences shouldn't be translatable

2008-02-29 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package gnome-control-center -
1:2.21.92-0ubuntu1

---
gnome-control-center (1:2.21.92-0ubuntu1) hardy; urgency=low

  * New upstream versions:
about-me:
- Fix widget tab order (lp: #41748)
- Don't distribute the .desktop.in file
- Port to gio
appearance:
- always apply the current GConf settings to the initially selected
wallpaper so that we don't modify the settings if GConf state and
the definition in backgrounds.xml are not identical
- don't try to set shading and options in GConf when we're dealing with a
  read-only source
common:
- Handle broken pipe if thumbnailer crashes
- Fix a small leak in the file transfer dialog
- Use new Metacity function to render rounded metacity borders correctly
  (lp: #131189)
default-applications:
- use '...' syntax instead of $(...) for better portability
display:
- Escape strange hostnames that we want to use as GConf keys
(see bug #517259 for a similar issue in gnome-settings-daemon)
general:
- Increase required metacity version to 2.21.21
- Revert removal of FONTILUS and THEMUS
  substitution that occurred in r8452.
Fixes distcheck.
- remove obsolete checks
- add gio-2.0 to general capplet flags for now; this part needs
cleaning up in the next cycle
- Add check for LIBSOUNDS.
appearance:
- Add a comment for translators
- Make sure we're done with the dialog before we destroy it (lp: #189003)
- Remove useless (with GIO-based Nautilus) 'Go to fonts folder' button
at-properties:
- Move capplet to main menu
default applications:
- Support --new-tab/--new-window for Iceweasel
- Improve name and description for the visual AT autostarter (lp: #146918)
- Add support for Terminator console (lp: #184635)
- Add support for Konsole (lp: #162021)
keybindings:
- Move Launch Calculator to Desktop group
and sort all launch_app keybing together
keyboard:
- Don't mark padding strings as translatable
libbackground:
- Use LIBBACKGROUND_{CFLAGS,...} instead of CAPPLET_... so we can use
  libbackground in gnome-settings-daemon too
- Don't pass a GError to the gconf_client*() calls
since we don't use it anyway
libwindow-settings:
- Expose missing metacity double-click actions
mouse:
- Set up the proper scale widgets to GtkSizeGroup in both tabs
- Fix HIG compliance for spacing, borders, padding, alignment
  and sentence label
sound:
- Use the libsounds.la now that libsounds uses libtool
shell:
- Add missing full stops in the long description
- Specify libtool versioning info
network:
- Don't mark padding strings as translatable
themus:
- Don't leak the ATK relation set
typing break:
- Add a comment for translators
general:
- Remove some cruft from the configure script and give libbackground
  its own settings
updated translation
  * debian/control.in:
- updated libmetacity requirement
  * debian/patches/95_desktop-effects-integration.patch:
- don't translate gtk-preferences label (lp: #151408)
- remove extra hyphens (lp: #162214)
  * debian/patches/100_at_properties_readd_gksudo_disable_grab_toggle.patch:
- new version update

  [ Bryce Harrington ]

  * debian/patches/101_cc-add-randr12-capplet.patch,
debian/patches/102_cc-randr12-makefile.patch:
- Add a capplet for configuring multiple monitors using xrandr 1.2
  * debian/patches/103_cc-glade-changes.patch:
- Tweak the display UI to be more concise

[Bug 196193] Re: Epiphany 2.21.90 (Hardy Alpha 5) can't import bookmarks from any source

2008-02-29 Thread GonzO
I think this deserves a higher rating than wishlist... I think this is
a pretty important feature that anyone who uses Epiphany would probably
want, and it blatantly doesn't work even with its own files. I won't
press the issue beyond this post, but while I'm making this comment, i
would ask that the status get reconsidered.

[Bug 131189] Re: Appearance Preferences' theme chooser does not handle rounded window frames properly

2008-02-29 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package gnome-control-center -
1:2.21.92-0ubuntu1

---
gnome-control-center (1:2.21.92-0ubuntu1) hardy; urgency=low

  * New upstream versions:
about-me:
- Fix widget tab order (lp: #41748)
- Don't distribute the .desktop.in file
- Port to gio
appearance:
- always apply the current GConf settings to the initially selected
wallpaper so that we don't modify the settings if GConf state and
the definition in backgrounds.xml are not identical
- don't try to set shading and options in GConf when we're dealing with a
  read-only source
common:
- Handle broken pipe if thumbnailer crashes
- Fix a small leak in the file transfer dialog
- Use new Metacity function to render rounded metacity borders correctly
  (lp: #131189)
default-applications:
- use '...' syntax instead of $(...) for better portability
display:
- Escape strange hostnames that we want to use as GConf keys
(see bug #517259 for a similar issue in gnome-settings-daemon)
general:
- Increase required metacity version to 2.21.21
- Revert removal of FONTILUS and THEMUS
  substitution that occurred in r8452.
Fixes distcheck.
- remove obsolete checks
- add gio-2.0 to general capplet flags for now; this part needs
cleaning up in the next cycle
- Add check for LIBSOUNDS.
appearance:
- Add a comment for translators
- Make sure we're done with the dialog before we destroy it (lp: #189003)
- Remove useless (with GIO-based Nautilus) 'Go to fonts folder' button
at-properties:
- Move capplet to main menu
default applications:
- Support --new-tab/--new-window for Iceweasel
- Improve name and description for the visual AT autostarter (lp: #146918)
- Add support for Terminator console (lp: #184635)
- Add support for Konsole (lp: #162021)
keybindings:
- Move Launch Calculator to Desktop group
and sort all launch_app keybing together
keyboard:
- Don't mark padding strings as translatable
libbackground:
- Use LIBBACKGROUND_{CFLAGS,...} instead of CAPPLET_... so we can use
  libbackground in gnome-settings-daemon too
- Don't pass a GError to the gconf_client*() calls
since we don't use it anyway
libwindow-settings:
- Expose missing metacity double-click actions
mouse:
- Set up the proper scale widgets to GtkSizeGroup in both tabs
- Fix HIG compliance for spacing, borders, padding, alignment
  and sentence label
sound:
- Use the libsounds.la now that libsounds uses libtool
shell:
- Add missing full stops in the long description
- Specify libtool versioning info
network:
- Don't mark padding strings as translatable
themus:
- Don't leak the ATK relation set
typing break:
- Add a comment for translators
general:
- Remove some cruft from the configure script and give libbackground
  its own settings
updated translation
  * debian/control.in:
- updated libmetacity requirement
  * debian/patches/95_desktop-effects-integration.patch:
- don't translate gtk-preferences label (lp: #151408)
- remove extra hyphens (lp: #162214)
  * debian/patches/100_at_properties_readd_gksudo_disable_grab_toggle.patch:
- new version update

  [ Bryce Harrington ]

  * debian/patches/101_cc-add-randr12-capplet.patch,
debian/patches/102_cc-randr12-makefile.patch:
- Add a capplet for configuring multiple monitors using xrandr 1.2
  * debian/patches/103_cc-glade-changes.patch:
- Tweak the display UI to be more concise

[Bug 187756] Re: cannot move over the PDF

2008-02-29 Thread TerryG
Thanks for the bug submission. Nice poster! I ran evince in a terminal
window and although no errors came up, it did take a long time, 4.5
minutes or so, to load the poster. 95% CPU use on one processor and
large memory use. I didn't want to push my luck by printing it.

Work around use acroread version 8. Loads quickly--6 seconds and has a
hand tool that allows you to drag it around in zoom mode.

sudo apt-get install acroread

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 39050 ***

It looks extremely similar to 124610 and is likely the same code path,
however note that the error says opcode 141 here, but 140 in bug
#124610. It may still be the same underlying problem though, but I
think we should keep the bug reports independent for now.

Also, these kind of X errors are generally due to issues in the
*calling* code rather than in X itself, so these may not actually be
-intel bugs, just error conditions the media players are not prepared to
handle. Indeed, the error message even says, This probably reflects a
bug in the program.

[Bug 197110] [NEW] New newlines are not displayed when the viewable page is full

2008-02-29 Thread Tim Saylor
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

If the last line in the viewable page is full of text but not wrapped,
when enter is pressed to create a new line a scroll bar will appear
reducing the viewable page size by the width of the scroll bar and
causing the full line of text to wrap. When this happens, the wrapping
pushes the newline down below the viewable area and it appears that the
newline was not created. gedit will automatically scroll down to that
line when any character is entered or the cursor is moved up and then
back down, but it is not visible initially and the cursor is hidden on
that line, so the user doesn't know where their text will appear when it
is typed.

Reproduction steps:
1) open gedit.
2) put one character on a line and press enter as many times as you can without
causing the scroll bar to appear.
3) Fill the last line with sequences of a few characters and spaces without
causing the line to wrap or a scroll bar to appear.
4) Press enter at the end of this line. The line in step 3 should wrap due to
the appearance of the vertical scroll bar reducing the width of the screen, and
the newline created in this step should not be visible.

[Bug 185181] Re: Evince takes all CPU resources by moving thumbs in side pane forth and back

2008-02-29 Thread TerryG
I tried for several minutes and I could not get it to freeze. Seemed to
work OK for me. I was using a 2.94 GHz Pentium D (dual core) with 2 GB

a command line with the file

evince AF540FGZ_web.pdf

Capture any errors that show up. That would be helpful.

[Bug 197103] [NEW] Installing script in Nautilus should add them automatically

2008-02-29 Thread Raptor Ramjet
Public bug reported:

I've just used Synaptic to add the GNU ConvertAudioFile script to
Nautilus. However after doing so there was no right click Scripts
menu in Nautilus. So.. I had to manually install nautilus-script-
manager then drop to a terminal and do the following:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ nautilus-script-manager list-available
ConvertAudioFile
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ nautilus-script-manager enable ConvertAudioFile

After which I now have the Scripts menu in Nautilus.

This entire process should have been done automatically by Synaptic, I
should not have had to manually install and run the scripts manager.

But now the bloody script is popping up a bloody dialogue every 10 seconds
making it impossible to do anything until the bloody wretched thing has
finished. Damn the developer to hell who added this Microsoft pop up a window

[Bug 176634] Re: Evince not printing PDFs

2008-02-29 Thread TerryG
Thanks for your bug submission. I've seen HP printers lock up with
network transmission. Sometimes just reseating the network cable, or
replacing the network cable helps. From your submission, this looks
like an intermittent problem. Since some files do print. Using lpr
goes through a different printing channel (think of it as a backup). If
a job hangs in CUPS, you have to manually clear it. Normally this
happens if there is an error in data transmission that causes the job to
fail. If it is a routine error, you will get a CUPS status message.

What version of Ubuntu are you using?

Right after a document fails to print in cups, try posting the last
lines of:

tail /var/log/cups/error_log

Sometimes the network cards built into HP printers act intermittent.
Try shutting down the printer, disconnect the power cord, reconnect,
then restart the printer. Sometimes a failing router can cause printer
hangs. Try changing router ports and rebooting the router.

[Bug 197119] [NEW] evolution message filters: only first action is performed

2008-02-29 Thread Peepsalot
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Ubuntu 7.10
evolution 2.12.1
Using IMAP mail

I added a new filter with criteria:
Sender: Contains: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

And for the actions, i set:
Move to folder: folderName
Set Status: Read

Expected Results:
All messages that match the criteria get moved to the folder, and are marked as
read.

Actual Results:
When the filter gets applied, it only moves to the folder, but does not mark
the message as read.

I tried swapping the order of the actions, to mark as read first, then move to
the folder.

[Bug 197120] [NEW] build dependency on obsolete PyXML / python-xml

2008-02-29 Thread Matthias Klose
Public bug reported:

gstreamer + plugins still has a build dependency on PyXML / python-xml
for building the documentation. The docs currently are not built
anymore, and I'd like to get rid of the python-xml package for Ubuntu
too. Any suggestions? Did somebody try to use 4suite as a replacement?
The simple solution that I would prefer for hardy is disabling the
build the documentation.

Thanks for your bug submission. I've seen HP printers lock up with

replacing the network cable helps.

Hi TerryG

No, no, the title bar within evince is fine! I was talking about the
metadata box which you can open by pressing ALT+ENTER. If there is a lot
of metadata in the titel or description then I have to expand the small
box about twenty times its size to read the whole content (cf. attached
file). It would be enough if the box had some kind of automatic line
break or justifying - like this HTML page for example which breaks text
automatically when resized. That's all!

[Bug 195153] (Debugging tools, Log files) Re: Yelp takes a lot of ressource

2008-02-29 Thread Bernard Drapeau
I use gnome-system-monitor 2.21.92.

I use GNOME yelp 2.21.90

I checked the system's activity levels using the system monitoricon in the
bottom desktop bar.
When yelp is not running and the system is idle. The computer's activity is
around 0 %.
When yelp is running. The activity is around 40 %.
When I open the System Monitors' windows with yelp running the CPU activity
level reaches 100%.

I ran ltrace and strace on yelp as quick debugging tools.

When I ran all three: system monitor window, yelp and strace on yelp, I
froze Linux.

There are missing resources in yelp, and that creates a race condition.
You can read the race condtion at the end of strace log.

I prametrized yelp with a simple sequence: open application, call menu
to close. Leaving the system monitor window displayed.

[Bug 197128] [NEW] FDD not working in Hardy.

2008-02-29 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hardy Alpha 5 updated to 2-28-08 recognizes that my system has an
internal FDD but can not access it. I have verified that the FDD and the
disk are both in perfect working order.

Nothing happens when I try to mount the drive, the drive does not do
anything at all.

I tested the drive by setting the FDD as the first boot device and using
an old Win 98 boot disk. The drive worked and could read the disk. The
drive just will not do anything in Hardy.

[Bug 195637] Re: Evolution window placement

2008-02-29 Thread Matthew Tighe
Are you running compiz (Advanced Desktop Effects turned on?). I remember
Evo doing this to me on a dual-monitor setup (would not realize top
panel was not there). Think it might be under compiz, though.

I'm not seeing that effect under Hardy, though.

[Bug 176687] Re: [Hardy]Status of display brightness blocks part of the screen for a while

2008-02-29 Thread harrydb
Yep I have that too. I spend some time looking at the output from gnome-
power-manager and noticed it did not get any results from GetBrightness
and SetBrightness results. Might be some dbus policy issue, a
malfunctioning hald-addon-dell-backlight but is also not recognised some
keycodes (will figure out the keycodes when I have some more time)...

However I find it strange that while gnome-power-manager waits for
event/timeout it cannot process any other events (shutdown, battery
applet).

[Bug 190240] Re: Rhythmbox podcast reciever fails to download enapsulated data that includes a redirect

2008-02-29 Thread Matthew Tighe
I can confirm this as well. Any URL with a ? fails to download. Also
webbalert (http://feeds.feedburner.com/webbalert) has not been
downloading for me but there is no question mark in it. It stop working
in Alpha 5.

[Bug 161917] Re: some updates failed after clean install of Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon.

2008-02-29 Thread TerryG
Thanks for your bug submission. With older hardware, it's possible that
the hard drive is going. Since you stated that you lost data with an
update, was it because of disk errors?

The log files show:
Setting up gnome-system-monitor (2.20.1-0ubuntu1) ...
*** glibc detected *** scrollkeeper-update: corrupted double-linked list:
0x08052238 ***

Scrollkeeper is part of the package database maintainer. When it gets
corrupted, packages can't be installed properly. Double-link list means
that there is a corruption in the database.

GRUB 1st stage gets loaded to the Master Boot Record, so fdisk won't
normally delete it. It will get overwritten with a new GRUB install, so
that behavior is normal. The second stage and the kernel are stored in
/boot/grub so unless you have a valid Linux partition, GRUB will load
but it won't get very far.

How old is your disk drive? Installing Linux can cause them to heat up
since they are working hard. Has the machine been cleaned recently?
Make sure the ribbon and power cable are seated properly.

Marking as Incomplete pending reporter's testing. No worries, many
hardware failures look like software failures. Sometimes it's difficult
to tell.

Confirming here. I just switched over from 32-bit to 64-bit, used XGL in
both cases. This is the sole outstanding bug for 64-bit I've experienced
since the change. I'm using an ATI Radeon Mobility X1600 (128MB) with
1GB of RAM.

[Bug 197161] [NEW] [Hardy] Macbook trackpad not detected as trackpad

2008-02-29 Thread marktraceur
Public bug reported:

In Hardy, I can't find a way to edit the preferences for my trackpad
(such as tap-to click, etc.)

I've tried gsynaptics, it either doesn't recognize my trackpad, or I
configured it wrong.

In the past, it has been detected automatically by gnome-mouse-
properties, so I figured I should let someone know that something has
gone screwy between the gnome shipped with Gutsy and the version in
Hardy.
