[Bug 196386] [NEW] Change password hangs on palindrome
You have been subscribed to a public bug: When user attempts to change password to a palindrome, gnome-about-me hangs indefinitely, but can be cancelled. `passwd` correctly warns about palindrome passwords, but this rare case is not handled by the GUI. Tested today (2/28/2008) on Gutsy 7.10. Steps to repeat: System-About MeChange password - [Authenticate] - Type any palindrome, such as 'panamanap' or 'toot' into both new password boxes, and press enter or click 'Change password' The system should give a warning about palindrome passwords and allow user to try a new password. Instead, it gives the appearance of working in the background while not actually doing anything. ** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: gnome-about-me palindrome password -- Change password hangs on palindrome https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/196386 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

It may still be the same underlying problem though, but I think we should keep the bug reports independent for now. Also, these kind of X errors are generally due to issues in the *calling* code rather than in X itself, so these may not actually be -intel bugs, just error conditions the media players are not prepared to handle. [Bug 197110] [NEW] New newlines are not displayed when the viewable page is full
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gedit If the last line in the viewable page is full of text but not wrapped, when enter is pressed to create a new line a scroll bar will appear reducing the viewable page size by the width of the scroll bar and causing the full line of text to wrap. When this happens, the wrapping pushes the newline down below the viewable area and it appears that the newline was not created. gedit will automatically scroll down to that line when any character is entered or the cursor is moved up and then back down, but it is not visible initially and the cursor is hidden on that line, so the user doesn't know where their text will appear when it is typed. Reproduction steps: 1) open gedit. 2) put one character on a line and press enter as many times as you can without causing the scroll bar to appear. 3) Fill the last line with sequences of a few characters and spaces without causing the line to wrap or a scroll bar to appear. 4) Press enter at the end of this line. The line in step 3 should wrap due to the appearance of the vertical scroll bar reducing the width of the screen, and the newline created in this step should not be visible. [Bug 184874] Re: Metadata box should have limited width
Hi TerryG No, no, the title bar within evince is fine! I was talking about the metadata box which you can open by pressing ALT+ENTER. If there is a lot of metadata in the titel or description then I have to expand the small box about twenty times its size to read the whole content (cf. attached file). [Bug 195153] (Debugging tools, Log files) Re: Yelp takes a lot of ressource
I use gnome-system-monitor 2.21.92. I use GNOME yelp 2.21.90 I checked the system's activity levels using the system monitoricon in the bottom desktop bar. When yelp is not running and the system is idle. The computer's activity is around 0 %. When yelp is running. The activity is around 40 %. When I open the System Monitors' windows with yelp running the CPU activity level reaches 100%. I ran ltrace and strace on yelp as quick debugging tools. When I ran all three: system monitor window, yelp and strace on yelp, I froze Linux. There are missing resources in yelp, and that creates a race condition. [Bug 161917] Re: some updates failed after clean install of Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon.
Thanks for your bug submission. With older hardware, it's possible that the hard drive is going. Since you stated that you lost data with an update, was it because of disk errors? The log files show: Setting up gnome-system-monitor (2.20.1-0ubuntu1) ... *** glibc detected *** scrollkeeper-update: corrupted double-linked list: 0x08052238 *** Scrollkeeper is part of the package database maintainer. When it gets corrupted, packages can't be installed properly. Double-link list means that there is a corruption in the database. GRUB 1st stage gets loaded to the Master Boot Record, so fdisk won't normally delete it. It will get overwritten with a new GRUB install, so that behavior is normal. The second stage and the kernel are stored in /boot/grub so unless you have a valid Linux partition, GRUB will load but it won't get very far. How old is your disk drive? Installing Linux can cause them to heat up since they are working hard. Has the machine been cleaned recently? Make sure the ribbon and power cable are seated properly. Marking as Incomplete pending reporter's testing. No worries, many hardware failures look like software failures.
