Still not fixed, mouse-over an active maximized window, specifically over the

I don't see a reason why this should be marked as fix released, I've changed
it back to Confirmed, unless a bug/package maintainer knows if it's In

[Bug 150379] Re: Nautilus built-in search doesn't work if tracker is disabled

2008-03-10 Thread Khashayar Naderehvandi
I completely agree with Johan, not tying the nautilus search to the
search utility provided by the distribution gives a really non-
integrated feeling to it all. After all, most users should be searching
for files in their home folders, not in /etc (what would they be doing
with files outside of home anyway, through nautilus, that they have no
permissions for).

The excellent gnome-search utility is a fine frontend for find and grep,
I've always used that when I had to find files outside of home.

Also, with regard to pt123's comment, the only way I could limit my
(tracker)search to certain folders, was by using the search through
nautilus.

One more point is that from a user perspective this is very bad. Say
someone migrated from another OS to Gutsy a while back, and became used
to the instantness of the nautilus search, as well as how nautilus would
find contents of files and so on. After Hardy's release, they would
upgrade, and notice that nautilus not only does not find files based on
their contents, the search takes a whole lot of time as well.

Since I don't seem to be on my own with regard to this point, should I
open another bug?

(In the meanwhile, could some kind soul please tell me how I revert this
change locally?)

[Bug 150379] Re: Nautilus built-in search doesn't work if tracker is disabled

2008-03-10 Thread Sebastien Bacher
apparently there is no way to make everybody happy there, reopen the bug
if you want but we will not change again this cycle , read the very
negative users comments sent there while it was using tracker if you
want to know why. You can use the indexer from its panel icon or using
deskbar, users expect to be able to look for files in a specific
directory using their filemanager what tracker is not able to do yet.
the feature could be modified to use tracker too but that's lot of work
and the current team doesn't have the ressources to work on those
changes

Sorry I have read over it.
What happens if you change your resolution with System - Preferences - Screen

[Bug 200526] [NEW] nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in ev_document_load()

2008-03-10 Thread Herbert Post
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

In nautilus I was trying to change the default application to open PDF files.
I tried to set it to Adobe Acrobat reader.
The program hung at first then after a couple of seconds crashed
and restarted automaticaly.
The change that I tried to make had been saved.

[Bug 200525] [NEW] Ability to search in comments

2008-03-10 Thread David Prieto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

After fiddling with F-spot's tagging system for half a year or so, I've
found that I have lots and lots of tags. Although this makes finding
stuff easier, I've noticed that it also makes navigating through tags
much more cumbersome.

As an example: If I've visited a science museum in my city -Valencia-
that means I have to use two tags in the Places category to be able to
find those photos easily: science museum and Valencia. I'd rather
just add Valencia and the information relevant to that specific trip
in the comment field. But since there is no way to search the comments,
that would mean I couldn't find those photos easily later on.

So please, could there be a search bar somewhere that looks for comment
text?

[Bug 200528] [NEW] Tooltip when hovering over photos

2008-03-10 Thread David Prieto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

I love how pressing v while hovering over a photo summons a bigger
version of it with its comment, date and filename. It's hardly
discoverable, though.

Could they appear as tooltips when you hover the mouse over a photo? How
I would ideally have it work:

-If you hover the mouse over a photo for a couple seconds you enter tooltip
mode.
-In this mode, a tooltip showing a bigger thumbnail, comment, date and name
appears. If you move the mouse from one photo to the next, tooltips keep
appearing for each photo hovered over.
-Tooltip mode ends if you move the mouse out of the area where pictures are
shown.

[Bug 150379] Re: Nautilus built-in search doesn't work if tracker is disabled

2008-03-10 Thread Khashayar Naderehvandi
Sebastien, thanks for pointing out some of those comments.
I'm sure there's a way to settle on a reasonable solution, not necessarily
based on the subjective desires of the ones who most easily make themselves
heard. But, I understand, any such thing is for the next cycle :-)

However,
(In the meanwhile, could some kind soul please tell me how I revert this
change locally?)
Is this a trade secret? I'm sure it's not a big change, I just can't figure out
what it is from the latest source deb (I don't have the previous source deb so
I can't see the difference).

from Rosetta. It'd need the X-Ubuntu-Gettext-Domain tag in the .desktop

[Bug 200537] [NEW] Automatic DVD playback now defaults to totem-gstreamer even when totem-xine is installed

2008-03-10 Thread Matt Zimmerman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

In the past, installing totem-xine (which removed totem-gstreamer) was
sufficient to get (unencrypted) DVD playback working properly. I would
insert the DVD, and it would begin playing immediately with totem-xine.

Now, totem-gstreamer and totem-xine can both be installed at the same
time. This is mostly a good thing, but when a DVD is inserted, it is
played with totem-gstreamer, rather than totem-xine, which means there
is no support for menus etc. (bug 41335). I think it would be
appropriate to prefer totem-xine for DVD playback when it is installed,
if that is possible.

[Bug 178558] Re: Firefox 3.0 makes everything annoyingly huge

Hi all,

please be realistic. You cannot scale images except by 2, 4, etc. ... so

So in short: this bug is not a wish-o-matic. I try to fix this bug, but
for that i need answers to my questions and no additional wishes or even
whining.more wishes and whining.

OK, back to work: ... can you please test the package i posted above and

BTW, if there is any body subscribed to this bug with a dpi =192,
please just #ubuntu-mozillateam channel on irc.freenode.net and ping me
(asac) ... i have some other experiment for you.

Thanks,

[Bug 178558] Re: Firefox 3.0 makes everything annoyingly huge

2008-03-10 Thread Wowbagger
You cannot scale images except by 2, 4, etc.

That is not correct, as a simple look at The Gimp/Eye of
Gnome/gThumb/etc. will show. You might make the argument that you
cannot scale images *quickly* except for integer scaling, but that is
really not an issue save for very old machines (which are unlikely to be
running high DPI displays) or for animated images (but there you can
scale the individual frames once then just loop them).

It isn't even correct to say Firefox lacks the ability to scale images
by a non-integer amount, as it *HAS* to do that if an image's native
size does not match what the HTML IMG tag specifies.

[Bug 200411] Re: [hardy] [regression] gnome-settings-daemon update gives 400x300 resolution after login

2008-03-10 Thread unggnu
You can run xrandr --auto in Gnome console. This should change the
resolution to 1024x768 so you can use the gnome-display-properties tool.
xrandr changes aren't saved so the GUI tool have to be used afterwards.

2008-03-10 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instuctions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be
dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on
the crash report you wish to submit.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.
