[Bug 205960] [NEW] USB ports identified incorrectly.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-terminal I am new at Ubuntu (Linux). As such I am not even sure if this is where I should report this. However, as Linux is said to be immune to 'bug' type virus' I can only assume the term 'bug' report is in reference to 'glitch.' If so, I believe this report may be appropriate. OS: Ubuntu (Feisty Fawn) 7.04 What I expected to happen: Since I had no external devices connected to the system at the time of install (except mouse, keyboard, and monitor) I assumed each hardware component would be identified and the appropriate drivers installed. As such I expected all (6) USB devices to be appropriately identified as USB 2.0 (s) One of which would be identified as an Enhanced USB 2.0 and all others as USB 2.0. I'd also assumed that if there was a configuration problem during the install I would be notified. I wasn't. What happened. I received no notification of any USB problems. The first device I attempted to configure was my printer. After installing the closest driver to my printer model, I ran a print test. The printer responded with an initial electrical surge, then stopped. It did not print. It did not respond to any other print commands. Other devices were also having problems so after making sure each device was mounted I checked Hardware Manager. Hardware Information showed an SIS961/2 SMBus Contoller and several hardware pieces as unidentified. It also showed this 3 SIS USB 1.0 Controllers and 1 SIS USB 2.0 controller. After much research ran the lsusb It appears that when Ubuntu loaded it may not have configured a few of my devices correctly. Among a few others devices it appears my USB ports may not have configured correctly. I have spent days searching Ubuntu's help pages, doing on line searches, reading articicles, searching for possible drivers, searching forum, I've even posted a request for help. I am at loss at how to correct this. I have (6) USB 2.0 ports on my system. There are (2) High speed USB 2.0 ports in the front of my system and (4) USB 2.0 ports in the back of my system. However it appears during the install, Ubuntu identified only 4 of my USB ports. (see the lsusb report below) Furthermore, 3 of the USB ports were identified as USB 1.0 instead of 2.0. The 4th USB port appears to have been identified twice: once as a 1.0 and again as a 2.0. Two USB ports weren't identified at all. the following is the command line results of a lsusb command [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ lsusb Bus 002 Device 001: ID : Bus 004 Device 001: ID : Bus 003 Device 002: ID 043d:0065 Lexmark International, Inc. Bus 003 Device 001: ID : Bus 001 Device 001: ID : [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ As you can see only it appears only 4 of my 6 USB ports are named. Also, the #3 port is named twice. Can you please tell me if this is a glitch in the install and how I might go about resolving the issue. Or, if this is not the right place to bring this issue up, what the right avenue is. Thank you for your time and assistance WestCost Note: Also I am new at to Linux. As such I have had a difficult time locating Linux/Ubuntu's perferred drivers for my hardware. [Bug 204080] [NEW] [hardy] vino server shows blank confirmation screen
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: vino If I run System / Prefs / Remote Desktop Prefs and set 'Allow others to use your desktop / allow others to control your desktop' and 'ask you for confirmation' but NOT require the user to enter a password, then when I try to vnc from a remote PC, the local PC shows a blank window entitled 'Question'. [Bug 202950] Re: [Hardy] GMD's language doesn't change when using another default language
May be I also got confused by this. Can someone clearly explain, how the system should behave? And how one can alter behavior of the system? What setting GDM relies upon? Then what is the idea behind asking a user to reload a login screen in different language if the very next time upon login user will get it again in default language and will be confused?
