[Bug 200865] Re: 'Subject' font changes when switching to vertical preview

2008-03-24 Thread Julien Langlois
I get the same thing with xubuntu 8.04/evolution 2.22.0ubuntu2. I can't
seem to get a screenshot at the moment, but it is as Mike describes: the
subject line in vertical preview has a seemingly stretched monospace
font.

[Bug 191446] Re: rhythmbox crashed with SIGSEGV

2008-03-24 Thread mithro
If I get this crash again I will re-open the bug and add a new coredump.

On a side note, it might be useful to be a little bit more descriptive
in your templates - IE We where unable to retrace the uploaded files so
are unable to get useful information. or something. It will make the
comments less dismissive and hence people will be more likely to report
bugs in the future.

[Bug 205901] [NEW] Birthdays to have alarms

2008-03-24 Thread J . Pablo Fernández
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I'm moving from KDE to Gnome, from Kontact to Evolution. One thing I
miss a lot is that Kontact would pop up a message (alarm) when a
birthday happens according to my address book. Even though Evolution
shows the birthdays in the calendar, it never pops up a message, making
me miss birthdays. It would be interesting if that was configurable or
if it would just include an actual alarm in the calendar birthday
entries.

[Bug 187335] Re: Unlock button throws an error, doesn't authenticate

I can confirm that bug with Hardy Alpha 6 from alternate install. I was
unable to use 'Unlock' button with fresh install and it still doesn't
work for me with all available updates installed.

When I click 'Unlock' button it hangs for some time and then displays
Could not authenticate error message.

Here's the output from terminal:

causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message
bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the

[Bug 187335] Re: Unlock button throws an error, doesn't authenticate

2008-03-24 Thread Andrey Fedoseev
Looks like I found the solution. I added my regular user to 'admin'
group and restarted the system. After that I'm able to use the 'Unlock'
button and other features like proprietary driver management are working
now too.

It means that regular user wasn't included in 'admin' group by default
in Hardy Alpha 6 alternate install.

[Bug 205934] [NEW] dvd's start automatically at login

2008-03-24 Thread encompass
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

It would be nice that if I had a dvd in the drive when I logged in that it
wouldn't try to play it as soon as I log in. This is not a good thing if you

[Bug 205941] [NEW] Missing sftp launchers on desktop

2008-03-24 Thread Crispin Flowerday
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I have just upgraded from gutsy to hardy.

In gutsy I had 3 sftp launchers on my desktop, however on booting into
hardy they have all dissappeared, and I am left with nothing where they
used to be. I appear to be able to create new ones by using the Create
Launcher... and then selecting Location so there wouldn't appear to
be a technical reason why they can't still be there.

[Bug 205960] [NEW] USB ports identified incorrectly.

2008-03-24 Thread WestCoast
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

I am new at Ubuntu (Linux). As such I am not even sure if this is where
I should report this. However, as Linux is said to be immune to 'bug'
type virus' I can only assume the term 'bug' report is in reference to
'glitch.' If so, I believe this report may be appropriate.

OS:
Ubuntu (Feisty Fawn) 7.04

What I expected to happen:
Since I had no external devices connected to the system at the time of install
(except mouse, keyboard, and monitor) I assumed each hardware component would
be identified and the appropriate drivers installed. As such I expected all
(6) USB devices to be appropriately identified as USB 2.0 (s) One of which
would be identified as an Enhanced USB 2.0 and all others as USB 2.0. I'd also
assumed that if there was a configuration problem during the install I would be
notified. I wasn't.

What happened.
I received no notification of any USB problems. The first device I attempted
to configure was my printer. After installing the closest driver to my printer
model, I ran a print test. The printer responded with an initial electrical
surge, then stopped. It did not print. It did not respond to any other print
commands. Other devices were also having problems so after making sure each
device was mounted I checked Hardware Manager. Hardware Information showed an
SIS961/2 SMBus Contoller and several hardware pieces as unidentified. It also
showed this 3 SIS USB 1.0 Controllers and 1 SIS USB 2.0 controller. After much
research ran the lsusb

It appears that when Ubuntu loaded it may not have configured a few of
my devices correctly. Among a few others devices it appears my USB ports
may not have configured correctly. I have spent days searching Ubuntu's
help pages, doing on line searches, reading articicles, searching for
possible drivers, searching forum, I've even posted a request for help.
I am at loss at how to correct this.

I have (6) USB 2.0 ports on my system. There are (2) High speed USB
2.0 ports in the front of my system and (4) USB 2.0 ports in the back of
my system. However it appears during the install, Ubuntu identified
only 4 of my USB ports. (see the lsusb report below) Furthermore, 3 of
the USB ports were identified as USB 1.0 instead of 2.0. The 4th USB
port appears to have been identified twice: once as a 1.0 and again as
a 2.0. Two USB ports weren't identified at all.

the following is the command line results of a lsusb command

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ lsusb
Bus 002 Device 001: ID :
Bus 004 Device 001: ID :
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 043d:0065 Lexmark International, Inc.
Bus 003 Device 001: ID :
Bus 001 Device 001: ID :
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$

As you can see only it appears only 4 of my 6 USB ports are named.
Also, the #3 port is named twice.

Can you please tell me if this is a glitch in the install and how I
might go about resolving the issue. Or, if this is not the right place
to bring this issue up, what the right avenue is.

Thank you for your time and assistance
WestCost

Note: Also I am new at to Linux. As such I have had a difficult time
locating Linux/Ubuntu's perferred drivers for my hardware. If you know
of a site where I can locate the varous needed drivers, I would greatly
appreciate it.

when I try to vnc from a remote PC, the local PC shows a blank window

If I require the user to enter a password, it asks for the password on

[Bug 202950] Re: [Hardy] GMD's language doesn't change when using another default language

2008-03-24 Thread Alexey Balmashnov
May be I also got confused by this.

Can someone clearly explain, how the system should behave? And how one
can alter behavior of the system?

What setting GDM relies upon? The one in System - Administration -
Language Support - Default Language?

Then what is the idea behind asking a user to reload a login screen in
different language if the very next time upon login user will get it
again in default language and will be confused?

My guess it confuses not only me or people involved in this bug (or
feature) discussion but some other people as well, see for example bug
#202418: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm/+bug/202418 and
may be there are other similar bugs were filed.

[Bug 205976] [NEW] [Hardy] rhythmbox holds on to removable drives

2008-03-24 Thread Eythian
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

If I tell nautilus to unmount an external drive, and rhythmbox is
playing a file from it (or, has been and is paused), the drive can't be
unmounted until you skip to a track not on the drive. In gutsy, it
worked (although it took two attempts at unmounting), and rhythmbox
automatically changed the track to one that would allow unmounting.

Assuming nautilus notifies programs that the user is trying to unmount
the drive, rhythmbox should immediately let go of the file. If nautilus
isn't notifying programs, then it should.

[Bug 205940] Re: Places menu shows x-nautilus-desktop

2008-03-24 Thread Crispin Flowerday
IIRC I have had problems in the past with this x-nautilus-desktop entry
in the bookmarks file, which FWIW contains:

file:///tmp System temp dir
x-nautilus-desktop:///
file:///home/crispin/Desktop/Stuff
file:///home/crispin

I don't think I have ever used anything other than gnome to edit the
bookmarks file ...

I had this problem before:

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=330594

So it appears that things have re-appeared in the latest gnome release
:-/
