[Bug 214440] [NEW] Brightness only works using manual controls

2008-04-09 Thread joss
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I can control display brightness using the keyboard but the settings in
Power Manager preferences, seem to be ignored. For example, when I
unplug the AC power, the screen dims, but when I plug it back in again,
the screen notifier shows the brightness increasing to about 90% (it is
set to be 100% on AC power) but in fact the screen remains dimmed and
does not actually increase. If I unplug the AC power again, the display
brightness decreases and so on until after unplugging the AC power four
times, the display brightness is at its lowest level and plugging in AC
power makes no difference to the actual brightness. I can rectify this
by using the FN-F11 keys.

I'm running the latest Hardy updates on a Lenovo 3000 N100. I've
attached some logs. This is not a recent problem but started occurring a
few weeks ago.

Thank you.

[Bug 180205] [NEW] Personal data manager doesn't display any password information

2008-04-09 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

Epiphany's personal data manager does not display any information about
stored passwords (when you click on the 'Passwords' tab you get an empty
window). The files signon.txt and signon2.txt exist in the
$HOME/.gnome2/epiphany/mozilla/epiphany directory. I believe these are
the files that xulrunner and/or firefox use for storing this personal
information. An 'strace -e trace=open' suggests that these files aren't
being looked for by epiphany. Also epiphany no longer asks if you want
to 'remember' passwords.

[Bug 197645] Re: gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in rw_screen_list_outputs()

2008-04-09 Thread efti
Hi there,

This seems to be related to Xrandr failing.
Deleting /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon-2.0/xrandr.gnome-settings-plugin makes
the crash go away (at the cost of not being able to set the screen resolution
from Gnome). Not sure if this is caused by xserver-xgl or the new proprietary
NVIDIA driver.

ii gnome-settings-daemon 2.22.1-0ubuntu1 GNOME settings daemon
ii x11-xserver-utils 7.3+2 X server utilities

Another symptom of the problem is this:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ xrandr
X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such
operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 151 (RANDR)
Minor opcode of failed request: 6 ()

Re: [Bug 181893] Re: Adding a certificate exception for non-trusted HTTPS sites is very difficult

2008-04-09 Thread Mary Gardiner
With the most recent xulrunner and epiphany this is made easier.

At the moment, with the following versions, Epiphany is much worse, not
better:

epiphany-browser: 2.22.1.1-0ubuntu1
epiphany-gecko: 2.22.1.1-0ubuntu1
xulrunner-1.9: 1.9~b5+nobinonly-0ubuntu1
epiphany-extensions: 2.22.0-0ubuntu1
epiphany-browser-dbg: 2.22.1.1-0ubuntu1

If I visit https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/ epiphany crashes
entirely. I'll report it separately and add the bug number here.

[Bug 214468] [NEW] Epiphany crashes inside xulrunner when viewing HTTPS sites

2008-04-09 Thread Mary Gardiner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

This is not the same as bug 181893, which is just about them being
difficult to view.

Epiphany, with the following versions, now completely crashes when
visiting HTTPS sites, regardless of the validity of their certificate.

Versions:

epiphany-browser: 2.22.1.1-0ubuntu1
epiphany-gecko: 2.22.1.1-0ubuntu1
xulrunner-1.9: 1.9~b5+nobinonly-0ubuntu1
epiphany-extensions: 2.22.0-0ubuntu1
epiphany-browser-dbg: 2.22.1.1-0ubuntu1

Sites tested: https://launchpad.net/ (has a valid certificate),
https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/ (self-signed), https://divmod.com/
(self-signed).

I can't get apport to catch the crash (it's running, I have no idea how
apport is meant to work from there), so I will attach a manually
obtained stack trace.

2008-04-09 Thread Luke Hoersten
I was having this problem up until right now. I did an update and a

Can you guys update and confirm the bug still exists?

Re: [Bug 57731] Re: Futex hang when exiting using the window close button

2008-04-09 Thread Rogers Veber
Hi,

When you try to quit, do you use an Interrupt key sequence (i.e.
Ctrl-C) ?

-Rogers

I know almost nothing about this, but I am seeing the same error in
xmoto. I try to quit and it hangs until I kill it with -9. Strace
reveals a futex hang. 100% reproducible. Hardy Heron with fglrx.

[Bug 182038] Re: Black rectangle instead of image in FF3 [Hardy]

2008-04-09 Thread Chris Moore
Thanks Stephen. I just checked and it isn't fixed for me any more
either. I made a new profile and visited the default mozilla.org first
run page, and zoomed in. The image was incorrectly positioned, as
before.

I also see the bug in the cartoon you linked to. Different zoom levels
offset the cartoon differently, and one of the zoom levels actually
displays it correctly.

I don't know if it's important, but I wasn't seeing this bug at all in
gutsy, with the mozilla.org firefox nightly. Then, as soon as I
switched to hardy it started happening, without changing the firefox
nightly installation at all.

[Bug 214488] [NEW] gnome-terminal tabs reorder mismatch

2008-04-09 Thread Slavius
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

Description:Ubuntu 7.10
Release:7.10

gnome-terminal:
  Installed: 2.18.2-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 2.18.2-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 2.18.2-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://ubuntu.supp.name gutsy/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Reproducible: Always

Open gnome-terminal
create 2 more tabs (does not matter if using shortcut or menu/pop-up menu), now
you have 3 tabs
write e.g. 1 to first tab, 2 to the 2nd and 3 to the 3rd so you can
distinguish them (1,2,3)
select the first tab by clicking on it (You should see 1 in the terminal)
now click on the caption of last tab (the 3rd), hold it and move it to the
front (left) (the order should be now 3,1,2)
now click on the third tab (should be no. 2) hold it and move it to the first
position
now the expected order should be 2,3,1but it's still 3,1,2
in fact until You click on the tab bar after move you can't successfuly move
any other tabs

Improtant is not to click, but press the mouse button, hold and move the
tab.

That simple!

[Bug 213745] Re: PDF pages appear extremely small in evince

2008-04-09 Thread bgerlich
Evince seems to assign bad value of window size in ev-metadata.xml

Workaround:
Edit ~/.gnome2/evince/ev-metadate.xml

change the values

 entry key=window_width type=gint value=???/
 entry key=window_height type=gint value=???/

to your required window size or to just about anything. After the change
evince seems to reset the values to the right ones.

I can attach a screenshot of how it looks - as for repeating it, it's

there is only one step: open any PDF.

[Bug 137239] [NEW] compiz and metacity should behave the same way

2008-04-09 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hello,

The window-manager changes from metacity to compiz whether you use
desktop-effects or not. As they don't behave exactly the same way, this
makes the ubuntu-desktop user-experience inconsistent. I noticed one
example, there may be more:

When you middle-click the Maximize button
  - in compiz, the window is maximized vertically
  - in metacity, the window is put behind all the others

I prefer the compiz behavior, but the point here is that both compiz and
metacity should share the same one.

[Bug 214534] [NEW] evince doesn't remember print setup options

2008-04-09 Thread Gaëtan de Menten
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

Every time I print a document, I need to change the paper size in the
page setup dialog. I use A4 paper, but by default it use US letter
paper. Ideally, I shouldn't even have to set this manually, and that
setting should be guessed from the fact I told during the OS
installation that I live in Belgium/Europe.

But I could live with a bad default value. What is really annoying is
that I have to change it every time I print: the paper size is not
remembered across documents, even though the format for: any printer
suggests it should.

PS: The system might be confused by the fact that I use Ubuntu in
English, even though I live in Belgium.

[Bug 214502] Re: World Cock Applet 'find' location feature only shows a few locations

2008-04-09 Thread Jimmy
I had rebooted as I upgraded yesterday and I shut down last night
however I hadn't rebooted since I installed todays updates (It ran a
'partial upgrade' when i booted up this morning). I've just tried
rebooting now and sure enough i now have the full database of locations.
Not sure what happened during the upgrade yesterday as everything seemed
to go smoothly and I used Hardy for a couple of horus fine before
shutting down for the night.

Thanks for your help in resolving the matter. I think there is a bug in
there somewhere but now it seems like it's with the upgrade process
rather the gnome-panel or world clock applet. Thanks again.

[Bug 214076] Re: .pdf fails to open: Unhandled MIME type: application/x-ole-storage

2008-04-09 Thread sc0jack
Further investigation reveals that the person sending the files to me
somehow managed to send me 5 copies of the same doc file. The pdf turned
out to also be a word doc file. So the bug is a red-herring.

If anything out of this could be called as a bug, it would be that
evince was willing to process the file as a pdf purely on the strength
of the .pdf filename extension. I had assumed that evince would perform
some form of basic file header or format verification.

Anyhow, sorry for the distraction

Scott.
