[Bug 212098] [NEW] easy file sharing not notifying about logout/login

2008-04-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

On Hardy Beta
When trying to share a folder in nautilus it notifies that the samba package is
not installed.
It then installs the package.
When you then try to share the folder again it notifies you that you do not
have privilegies to share files and that you have to contact your
administrator...

This is not really true... The problem is that the user IS already added
to the sambashare user group... but the computer has not been logged out
or restarted... thus it does not notice that you really are allowed to
do this.

A warning that you have to restart or log out should be displayed, and
NOT that you dont have the privilegies.

Another way to solve that is, may be, to hack samba and libpam-smbpass
packages for add notification in their postinst file (like firefox3 do,
saying to user that firefox must be restarted)

I think that would be incorrect in this case; it's only in the case of
wanting to use nautilus-share for managing shares that you should be told
that this is needed.

Re: [Bug 188257] Re: Huawei E270 USB modem appears as a CDROM Drive

2008-04-11 Thread Caroline Ford
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 105545 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/105545

I disagree. Bug #105545 seems to be a collection of bugs saying that
the modem doesn't work. The modem does actually work for me, and the
CD flash being not hidden is a new thing in hardy. The bug is on
nautilus, as I don't think it functions as flash memory (I think the
kernel is doing that bit right)

I'm obviously not going to install random patches from a bug to 'fix'
my working modem.

[Bug 138586] Re: Gnometris controls very unresponsive when keys are held down

2008-04-11 Thread Sebastien Bacher
The change is not telling users what to do, it's changing the default
theme as a workaround. The tango theme is slower because it hits slow
code in the xorg stack on some cards but is likely working correctly for
some other people so there is no really reason to don't make it
available

[Bug 112955] Re: vino (vnc) keyboard mapping problem

2008-04-11 Thread Roel van Os
The workaround is not sufficient for everyone (certainly not me), since
it has to be performed for every user. On multi-user systems, this can
quickly become a problem. In addition, the workaround assumes that a US
keyboard layout is OK for everyone, which is not the case when different
layouts are used.

I've tested tightvncserver and vnc4server, both showed the same
symptoms. I also tested with a number of different clients: tightvnc on
Windows, Chicken of the VNC on Mac OS, and xvnc4viewer on Gutsy. No
difference. The problem only occurs when logged into Gnome: GDM and KDE
work perfectly.

Is there anything I can do to pinpoint the problem further, so we can
locate the problem?

2008-04-11 Thread Sebastien Bacher
the ubuntu team appreciate your concern, this behaviour is not
constructive though, the distribution gets hundred bugs every week and
there is a really small team working on those, there is lot of bug about
hardware not working correctly, applications crashing, etc so the work
has to be prioritized. You will understand that those issues get an
higher priority though? There is many people not counting there hours,
working late or during weekend for free and doing their best, now do you
think it's fair to have those comment again them because there is too
much to do and they didn't fix your specific issue yet?

note that we don't have keyboard hackers in the team so the fix is not
that obvious, I talked with the upstream maintainer who also works on

2008-04-11 Thread Sebastien Bacher
The upstream bug equivalent to this one has been marked duplicated and
upstream is likely to know better if they have the same cause, either
the bug watch is pointing to a wrong bug or you should mark the bug
duplicated. Note that clear steps to trigger the issue and a debug
stacktrace would make easier to figure what the issue is, and that's not
because other people have an issue similar to one describe first there
that they have the exact same bug

[Bug 196464] Re: After gdm upgrade no X cliens can be run

2008-04-11 Thread Joachim Haga
Again today, after dist-upgrade. But this time gdm was not upgraded,
although xorg-driver-fglrx (which has atieventsd) was.

I tried to look deeper into this, and it seems that in this case it is
caused by atieventsd calling xauth add/remove -f /home/xxx/.Xauthority
as root, which triggers the ownership change. Do you have this installed
(xorg-driver-fglrx)?

In any case, to debug I made a simple shell wrapper for xauth which logs
when it is called and who calls it. Let me know if you need this.

2008-04-11 Thread Fred
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

I am using Ubuntu 8.04 (beta) with GNOME Terminal 2.22.1.

I am using a Intel Core 2 Duo 2.13 GHz, 4gb RAM and the nvidia-glx-new
169.12 drivers on a GeForce 8600.

When in window-mode, GNOME Terminal works perfectly.

But when using GNOME Terminal in fullscreen mode (F11), selecting text with the
mouse is slow. There is a 1-2 second delay.
This delay only appears when in full-screen mode. In window mode, its instant.

I don't have this problem when running GNOME Terminal in maximized mode,
only Fullscreen (F11).

The same for me :) No gdm upgrade but something else, but don't know
which package exactly but yes, xorg-driver-fglrx is installed:

[Bug 215570] [NEW] Cannot browse/mount Windows Server 2003 shares

2008-04-11 Thread Bálint Magyar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gvfs

Ubuntu Hardy Beta with all updates as of date, upgraded from Gutsy.

I'm trying to reach SMB shares provided by a server running Windows
Server 2003 (Active Directory login), through Nautilus. I get the
Failed to mount Windows share error dialog, and an empty listing. It
does not ask for my password, it's not in the keyring. smb://serverroot/
gives me a list of the shares as expected, trying to enter them results
in the error.

Using File Connect to Server... in Nautilus and filling in the login
info results in the same error when pressing Connect.

gnomevfs-ls and smbclient list the files correctly, gvfs-mount results
in Error mounting location: Failed to mount Windows share.

Browsing SMB shares provided by Samba on a Gentoo-based server works
fine.

[Bug 215643] [NEW] Evolution: Can't move email from/to mail folders on Xubuntu

2008-04-11 Thread roots
Public bug reported:

i've been having this problem since i started using evolution on Xubuntu
on my notebook, that is, for 2 years now.

i'm having evolution start up with a saved session on system start.

when trying to drag'n'drop - move an email (or multiple) from, let's say the
inbox, to another folder, the cursor shows a little x, meaning that i just
can't move the email.
so, when dragging it to some folder, it will just snap back to where it came
from and not appear in the target folder.

when i close evolution and restart it, all will be fine - email can be
moved to wherever i want - well, within my folders, that is. same
happens when i do not start evolution automatically on system startup
and manually run it lateron - i can move email without any problem.

no such problems occur on my desktop pc running Ubuntu/Gnome.

os: Xubuntu hardy testing (also: gutsy, feisty)
evolution: 2.22.1-0ubuntu2 (also: previous versions)
system: acer travelmate 382tmi

[Bug 215649] Re: Program crashes when attempting to delete a corrupt contact entry

2008-04-11 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instuctions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be
dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on
the crash report you wish to submit.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 214295] Re: seahorse-agent blocks gnupg from accessing card reader

2008-04-11 Thread bjoern
If i install gpg-agent and activate it in ~/.gnupg/gpg.conf so that both
gpg-agent and seahorse-agent is running the problem is solved.
So maybe it would be good to install gpg-agent by default if gpg is installed
to make sure people can access their smartcard and use seahorse.

[Bug 215677] [NEW] formatting message flickers for very large messages

2008-04-11 Thread Andy Christianson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

For very large messages, my preview pane flickers rigorously while
formatting message, and the message formatting takes a long time. An

takes about 20-30 seconds with lots of formatting before I can properly
view the message.

[Bug 212994] Re: in xubuntu 8.04 beta: screensaver not working at all

2008-04-11 Thread Tormod Volden
(I could swear I posted a question here, but I don't see any)

Is the xscreensaver daemon running (check with ps ax|grep saver)? It
should have been started by the xfce session (not exactly sure how). Can
you please try to create a new user and see if the daemon is started
when logging in?

[Bug 188639] Re: laptop will not sleep after idle time

2008-04-11 Thread mlaverdiere
I'm on a Compaq Presario V2610CA laptop with Ubuntu Hardy (Beta) and I'm
experiencing the same problem, i.e. idle time is not respected for
suspend/hibernate. The problem was also ocuring with Gutsy. I've looked
in /apps/gnome-power-manager/actions/ and everything was right, i.e. set
to suspend, as I set it in the gnome-power-manager applet.

One interesting thing to note is that when I was using Kubuntu Gutsy
(some weeks ago - I'm a switcher!) things were working right, i.e. idle
time set for suspend in the KDE power manager utility was respected. So
it could be a Gnome problem...

2008-04-11 Thread satkata
Yep, Sorry, I hadn't read all the comments. It was one of my icon
themes. I switched now to pure tango-icons and everything is working
fine, no crashes.

But it shows following on start: (the second warning)

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ gnome-system-monitor

** (gnome-system-monitor:7591): WARNING **: SELinux was found but is not
enabled.

** (gnome-system-monitor:7591): WARNING **: Cannot get volume for mount point
