Could this be simply an incompatibility between the xrandr library and
xserver-xgl? Can anyone using Xgl without an NVIDIA card (ATI,
whatever) confirm or deny it?

I had this problem every time i tried to use the restricted nvidia
drivers. This problem went away after I removed xserver-xgl from my
system. As far as I can see installing the nvidia-glx-new drivers should
probably automatically remove the xserver-xgl package if it's installed.
but i am no expert.

[Bug 219054] [NEW] Evolution doesn't send mail with attachments via GMail SMTP

2008-04-18 Thread Serobur
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

For example, I'm composing test email from me to me with subj text field and
some amount of simple text in body
Then Send/Receive sends it without any problems and I can see it in Inbox.

Then I'm composing new email from me to existing address (I was tested
it via GMail web interface - all ok) and attached to it 10 *.jpg's
(about 50-70 kB each). Then, when I'm clicking Send/Receive I'v got Ok
with Receive, and waiting for Send - number of messages to send
disappears, progressbar is empty and nothing changes while I cancel it.

Sorry for my poor English skills, please.

If you will need additional information or tests - I'm ready to help

[Bug 219062] [NEW] Could not read from resource

2008-04-18 Thread bmdavis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Currently using Hardy Heron and I Love it! Sure, it's still beta, but
I've had hardly any problems.

After a most recent update, however, the totem movie player stopped
playing DVDs. This worked on the initial install of BETA, and because
there was 5 updates of over 260 MB, I can't trace which update did it.
But now, upon entering any DVD, I get the message,

Could not read from resource.

Under playlist I always have 1 and 2, regardless of the DVD. Tried
6 DVDs, none of them worked.Any ideas?

Thanks.

[Bug 219079] [NEW] part of left side desk shows on the right side [and/or vice versa]

2008-04-18 Thread Jeff Imperial
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I'm new to Ubuntu, so I really am not sure whether this is a problem on
my side or not.

Every time I have a window open on one of my desks, an edge of it shows

[Bug 219080] [NEW] [Rgeression] Evince prints pages in a strange order

2008-04-18 Thread Tim Fuchs
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

I have to print out presentation slides for university and because they
don't contain much text and the fonts are big I want to print out
several pages on one sheet of paper.

I open the PDF in evince, go to Print, select print to file (I print out
the stuff at my university and I can only upload .ps files to them) and
press print.

The resulting .ps file has a strange layout, like this:

(I know that is some bad ASCII art, but I think you get the idea.)

-
| 2 | 4 |
-
| 1 | 3 |
-

What I obviously want is something like this:

-
| 1 | 2 |
-
| 3 | 4 |
-

The problem is that you can't select the orientation of the paper.
Evince assumes that the sheet of paper is vertical, while it's actually
horizontal.

Confirmed by me. Please see the above link to the forum thread for our

[Bug 219090] [NEW] Brasero should use Change disc instead of Replace disc

Pretty minor, but still confusing. When overwriting data on a disc,

Same problem here after yesterday's hardy update.
Very, very, very, very, very, very annoying.

Outpput of gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd

 overrideSettings = true
 options = []

Output of _xprop -root | grep XKB

_XKB_RULES_NAMES_BACKUP(STRING) = xorg, pc105, de_CH, ,
_XKB_RULES_NAMES(STRING) = xorg, pc105, de_CH, ,

Will try to edit xorg.conf manually. Let's hope it works, damn it.

[Bug 219104] [NEW] PGP encrypted mail sent from MS Outlook are not displayed decrypted

2008-04-18 Thread Traxter
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

This is a resubmit of a bug that was invalidated because the submission
was made too long ago. The bug was never fixed and I'm therefore
creating a new bug report since the problem still exists and is very
annoying. Please note that I was encouraged by the moderator here (don't
remember his name) to resubmit the bug report.

Environment:
Ubuntu 7.10 (amd64), Evolution 2.12.1, GnuPG 1.4.6

Problem:
It works fine to send GPG encrypted mails from Evolution to MS Outlook or to
another Evolution client, but when an email sent from MS Outlook encrypted with
PGP Desktop then Evolution can not parse the message and thereby does not
decrypt and display the message. I have no problems with reading encrypted
emails sent from another evolution client so there is nothing wrong my keys. I
expected the messages in the emails to be displayed but the received emails
from MS Outlook are instead displayed like this in evolution:

* Bug submitters note: the content that evolution displays starts
below this line *
Could not parse PGP/MIME message
gpg: armor header: Version: PGP Desktop 9.8.2 (Build 3005)
gpg: public key is 004BEC3A
gpg: encrypted with RSA key, ID 004BEC3A
gpg: decryption failed: secret key not available
* Bug submitters note: content ended on the previous line
*

The entire email looks like like this (I have put X's in the ip- and
email-addresses):

[Bug 219130] [NEW] Tomboy applet is slow to appear on a gnome panel

2008-04-18 Thread ringostar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

It's a minor bug but it makes the panel unfriendly.

Steps to reproduce :
Right click on the panel - Add to panel
Select Tomboy Notes by clicking on it or by by taping tomboy in the search field
Add tomboy on the panel by double clicking on it, or by clicking on Add.
Bug : You need to wait a few seconds (probably tomboy is loading) before it
appears on the panel. Because you are not sure of the add of tomboy, lots of
people will click a second time or third time or more... on Add tomboy. Then
there will probably an error like :
The panel encountered a problem while loading OAFIID:TomboyApplet. Do you
want to delete the applet from your configuration?

I think the concerned package is gnome-panel so it needs to print the
tomboy icon before the end of tomboy loading.

Confirmed.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open pdf in Evince
2. File Print Page Setup Pages per slide = 4 (Note, diagram that appears
resembles Table 2 by Tim Fuchs)
3. Output = Table 1 from Tim.

This seems to apply to portrait, landscape, reverse portrait and reverse
landscape print setups.

[Bug 219144] [NEW] The Interface does not exist

2008-04-18 Thread trpaslik
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-nettool

steps to reproduce:
1. wget http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/hardy-desktop-i386.iso
BTW: md5sum is: 86dc6f4792fa5a69e73e30cd33cdfd11 hardy-desktop-i386.iso
and this is daily build dated: 17.04.2008.
2. boot using vmware server
3. System - Administration - Network Tools
4. choose Ethernet Interface (eth0) from combobox
5. click Configure button
after few seconds I get error message box saying:
   The Interface does not exist.
Check that it is corectly typed and that
it is correctly supported by your system

$ lsb_release -rb:
Description: Ubuntu 8.04
Release: 8.04

Please note that there is nothing wrong with the eth0 interface.
All applications (network manager, ifconfig, even gnome-nettools!) SHOWS
correct STATUS of eth0 (which is configured BTW).
The only problem is, you CANNOT CONFIGURE interface using gnome-nettools.

[Bug 219133] [NEW] Obscure hex key names in Preferences - Keyboard shortcuts

2008-04-18 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

On Gutsy 2008-03-02 Live CD beta, when I open Preferences - Keyboard
Shortcuts, I see lots of weird hex codes instead of key names. How am I
supposed to know which key corresponds to 0xa0, 0xae, 0xb0 etc?

Some keys have sensible or at least marginally understandable names, but
the vast majority seem to be in hexadecimal.

[Bug 201345] Re: evince in Hardy alpha 6 doesn't compile with libtiff

2008-04-18 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
Hi all,

Disabling pixbuf support in debian/rules ( remove --enable-pixbuf )
solves this issue.

This is not related to Ubuntu because the same happens with svn copy of evince:
Multipage tiff support OK :
./configure --disable-scrollkeeper --enable-djvu --enable-dvi --enable-comics
--enable-impress

Multipage tiff support not OK :
./configure --disable-scrollkeeper --enable-djvu --enable-dvi --enable-pixbuf

[Bug 219180] [NEW] Boot with external monitor breaks gnome-panel

2008-04-18 Thread jackocleebrown
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

System information:
Hardy beta 8.04 with latest updates
Linux 2.6.24-16-generic #1 SMP Thu Apr 10 13:23:42 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux
fglrx kernel driver
un-edited xorg.conf
compiz disabled

Steps to create problem:
plug in external monitor and boot system into Hardy.

Symptoms:
Login screen works fine but after user and pass is entered gnome desktop loads
and all gnome-panels do not function. There is some variation on the appearance
of the gnome-panel, sometimes it is rendered with a few icons on a few
occasions it does not appear at-all (but top shows it is running). Problem
cannot be fixed by killing and restarting gnome-panel and more worryingly it
remains broken on subsequent logins thereafter even after restarting GDM,
unplug external monitor restart GDM or complete reboot without external
monitor.

Fix:
To get gnome-panel working again remove the directory ~/.gnome2/panel2.d and
then restart GDM. This is not too bad as the position of panels and launcher is
retained but custom launchers loose their settings.

Cannot locate any signed of the problem in log files with the exception
of:

** (nautilus:7733): WARNING **: Unable to add monitor: Not supported

in ~/.xsession-errors

let me know if you need any more info.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instuctions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be
dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on
the crash report you wish to submit.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

After cancel button is selected, the volume of files opens anyway and I
can edit as desired.

-release: Ubuntu 7.10 / (Daryna - Mint flavor)

-nautilus according to above button but I don't think the skin is
relevant. (base-passwd is probably more relevant I would guess or
something similar perhaps?)

-I expected a password to be required

-It wasn't

[Bug 218990] Re: rhythmbox crashes with visualization and doesn't allow recovery

2008-04-18 Thread Pedro Villavicencio

2008-04-18 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be
reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the
development release - Hardy Heron. It would help us greatly if you could
test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of
Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at
http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your
help.

[Bug 78038] Re: rhythmbox interferes with suspend

2008-04-18 Thread Mike Rooney
Arand, have you confirmed that it stops hibernation on critical battery
level? My machine is set to shut down on critical battery, and I tested
it yesterday (rhythmbox 0.11.5-0ubuntu4, g-p-m 2.22.1-1ubuntu4) and
although I could not manually shut down while music was playing, when it
got to critical levels it was still able to shut down fine.

As such it isn't High/Critical as you say (at least for that reason).
Though let me know if you have evidence to the contrary.

2008-04-18 Thread co0lingFir3
I've also this error with 100% CPU load by e-d-s. i dont have my cal synched
with the internet and dont use evolution at all. however i'm using the weather
applet in the panel.
additionally i didnt have this problem at home, where i have a wlan connection
right after startup. at work however, where i do also have a internet
connection at startup but i have to set up a VPN-tunnel in order to use the
internet. so maybe it is related to that: e-d-s thinks the internet connection
is running but gets timeout because of the missing vpn. could that be?

And how do I get symbols assigned to my keys by the keymap? Regardless
