[Bug 151536] Re: [MASTER] E-D-S hangs on login and uses 100% cpu

I had this on an AMD64, running 32bit hardy, fully up-to-date. I
upgraded from at least 7.04, 7.10 to 8.04. I have had this problem both

[Bug 221118] Re: Connected servers forgotten in next session (Hardy)

2008-04-26 Thread sicofante
It is a bug indeed (as long as design can have bugs too).

It is possible to add a bookmark, of course. So when you use your
bookmark you get there, the FTP place is mounted, and you get another
bookmark in your places list. For the rest of your session you get two
bookmarks differently named pointing to the same place. This is
definitely a bug.

Also, having the mounted FTP site in the desktop is not desirable for
many. This should be optional behaviour. If you consider the mounted FTP
site a volume, then use a disk icon for it. For consistency sake.
Otherwise it just look like some folder has appeared in my desktop and
I can't get rid of it, which is frankly annoying.

[Bug 137239] Re: compiz and metacity should behave the same way

2008-04-26 Thread Thomas Thurman
I think the trouble is that Metacity is not tunable enough to do this by
design: Metacity is supposed to be a small, simple window manager
without a whole lot of options and bells and whistles. Of course we
could patch it at the Ubuntu level to behave differently, or to be more
tunable, and we could consider some kind of standard about how basic and
very common actions work (although I'm not sure that middle click on
maximise button counts as basic and very common) at, say, the
freedesktop level, although currently that role is mostly filled quite
reasonably by consensus. If you've found a place where that consensus
falls down, such as here, I think it's not unreasonable to ask Metacity
or Compiz to change their default behaviour when you middle-click the
maximise button as a specific bug (at least at the Ubuntu level; since
this has quite recently been the subject of a slightly heated discussion
upstream, I doubt the upstream maintainers would upset the boat by
changing the behaviour again now.)

[Bug 204775] Re: hardy beta amd 64 selecting gnome panel intlclock causes top bar and many other things to not respond

2008-04-26 Thread Flávio Martins
This has to be High in the queue people.
Even if there is information missing, the steps to reproduce are nothing more
than clicking the intlclock panel applet.
That eventually crashes your panel, and John Doe will not be happy.

I'm getting these crashes, I simply kill gnome-panel after it happens. I don't
want to have a mental note, not to click that applet anymore.
I didn't saw myself teaching my girlfriend to kill the gnome-panel either, but
that's what I did.
Sorry, I don't have any traces for you yet.

Well it works fine on my machine now. I use the i386 version. Installed

[Bug 222491] Re: [Hardy] Reported battery-life is way off

2008-04-26 Thread sam tygier
if you right click on the power-manager applet (it may only be visable
when you are on battery), there is a power history menu item. in that
check the discharge time acuracy profile. you may need to do a few
charge-discharge cycles (while logged in to gnome) for the accuracy to
get higher.

the gnome-power-manager time may be more accurate than the acpi one.

of that type. It makes the calendar box full of junk.

[Bug 151536] Re: [MASTER] E-D-S hangs on login and uses 100% cpu

2008-04-26 Thread hggdh
For those of you that get hit quite frequently: Go to
System/Preferences/Sessions; select the Current Session tab, and edit
the evolution-alarm-notify entry so that it will have a higher order.
The default installs will have it with Order=50; Setting it to 60 is
enough. After changing the Order, select Apply. There might be more
than one e-a-n entry, edit all of them as shown.

Make sure the Session Options tab is either set to Automatically
remember running..., or hit the Remember currently running
applications.

Then reboot, and check if you are still hit by the bug. Ah yes, please
report the results :-).

This is *NOT* a solution, but simply a test, perhaps a bypass.

The same here on freshly installed Hardy 8.04 final. Automatic mount of EXT3

Manually using mount works.

[Bug 204775] Re: hardy final, selecting gnome panel intlclock causes top bar and many other things to not respond

2008-04-26 Thread Flávio Martins
** Summary changed:

- hardy beta amd 64 selecting gnome panel intlclock causes top bar and many
other things to not respond
+ hardy final, selecting gnome panel intlclock causes top bar and many other
things to not respond

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gnome-panel

From an upgrade to the beta version of Hardy Heron, after upgrade is
  complete, and system has restarted.

Anytime I click on the new clock in gnome, a box appears around it as if
its selected, but it does not display, and almost every function of the
top bar freezes up. I cannot click on Applications Places, System,
panel icons, but I can click on network manager and tracker.

Also shutdown icon fails as well, yet most times, ctrl+alt+del works in
  bringing up the shutdown options.

additionally, the lower bar will also stop refreshing itself, it seems
that opening and closing items will not make any change to the status of
the lower bar, after intlclock has been selected.

I'm not sure what other info to provide, except that I have compiz
running, and the nvidia graphics drivers, and this is the amd64 build.
+
+ edit: Edited the title to remove reference to amd64.

[Bug 222619] [NEW] Nautilus audio previews continue after file deletion

2008-04-26 Thread Caleb
Public bug reported:

If a file is deleted while its audio is being previewed (it's quite easy
to activate the audio preview while selecting a file to delete it), it
continues playing until the window is closed or another audio file is
moused over.

Tried the same on my Athlon 1600+ desktop system and the stick mounted

On my Acer Travelmate C111 with Intel ULV the above error occured. Both
are freshly installed with Hardy 8.04 final yesterday and had no
problems on Gutsy.

Thanks for your effort,

[Bug 202457] Re: Preferences option for Removable Drives doesnt control Removable drives

The removable drives are missing.
The problem of autorun is only a part of the tab's previous functionality.
I need to disable automount of media -otherwise I am stuck and can't work with
damaged USB sticks etc.
The system automaticaly tries to scan the inserted disk and it will get stuck.
This is causing a serious usability issue for me.

[Bug 210783] Re: Cannot save/copy images properly from evince

2008-04-26 Thread Matteo Settenvini
It may be interesting bumping to poppler 0.8.1.
Attached is the debian sub-directory of my poppler-0.8.1 package,
downloadable from http://poppler.freedesktop.org/poppler-0.8.1.tar.gz

I then just took care of rebuilding packages I wanted using the new
library; for me they were evince, inkscape, tracker and gimp. Maybe it's
only me, but I noticed a speedup when rendering PDFs.

another machine and it works fine (so, I know the OWA address and
username/password I'm using are all correct.) Can I help gather info? If
so, please give me explicit instructions how. (I'm still relatively new

[Bug 222643] [NEW] Mounting removable media causes Nautilus to launch on all desktops when more than one user is logged in

2008-04-26 Thread Chris Coulson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gvfs

If I have multiple users logged in to my machine at any one time (using
fast-user-switch) - when I plug in a USB drive (or any removable device)
or insert a CD, Nautilus opens a window on the desktop of every user
logged in. If I unmount and remount the removable device several times
(or eject and insert multiple CD's), I get one Nautilus window per
mount/unmount (or per CD) appear on all the inactive users desktops.

Unfortunately, because I run the NVIDIA binary drivers, all the Nautilus
windows which appear on the inactive users desktop appear white, which
can make the desktop virtually unusable when that user switches back to
themselves again.

Nautilus should only open a window on the active session.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Log in user A
2) Using fast-user-switch, switch to user B
3) User B inserts a USB pen drive or CD. Nautilus appears.
4) Using fast-user-switch, switch back to user A - there is also a Nautilus
window on user A's desktop (or, in my case - a white box)

[Bug 222656] [NEW] [hardy] nautilus displays nothing on an ftp server which has iso8859-15 encoding

2008-04-26 Thread Id2ndR
Public bug reported:

I try to connect to a ftp server where locale is iso8859-15 (french).
The server answer with emphasized characters and nothing is displayed in
nautilus. If you try using ftp command, it show something (even if there
is ? instead of emphasized characters.

I haven't tried with gutsy so I don't know if it was working before

[Bug 25931] Fix not working.

2008-04-26 Thread Daniel Rheinbay
Hi everybody,

upgraded from Gutsy to Hardy. If I set concurrency to shell, I still
get that error message. Reverting concurrency back to none is a
workaround, but not a solution for me. I assume my symlinks are the
Hardy default ones:

~$ ls -1 /etc/rc?.d/*dbus
/etc/rc1.d/K88dbus
/etc/rc2.d/S12dbus
/etc/rc3.d/S12dbus
/etc/rc4.d/S12dbus
/etc/rc5.d/S12dbus

So, contrary to Bruce's experience, the final Hardy release did not solve this
problem.
FYI, I'm running 2.6.24-16-generic

1) In bluetooth manager (bluez bluetooth applet 0.25), right-click - browse
device.
2) I choose my Windows Mobile 5 smartphone
3) I see my smartphone's shared folder

4) If I try to copy a file bigger than 5k FROM the device TO my Ubuntu
Hardy, I get the message:

Small, 1k files are transfered without a problem

[Bug 222670] [NEW] trashcan doesn't show item in trash

2008-04-26 Thread MtnTech
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

when I move a file to trash the icon at right bottom does not indicate
it and holding mouse over the icon says no items in trash. Clicking on
icon I can see the file, but clicking on empty trash and oking popup
does not delete file.

After trying to delete the first time, the icon at bottom right no
indicates a file in the trash can, hovering over it shows 1 file in can
and clicking on delete file and oking popup now removes the file,
