[Bug 234220] [NEW] keybindings do not work properly in 8.04
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: metacity I have recently installed 8.04 on my laptop. I login to this machine in two different ways. - Directly logging in and using laptop's keyboard and touchpad. - Through another linux machine using X forwarding over SSH so that I use the keyboard and mouse attached to the second machine. In this case I usually run this script for creating gnome-session ssh -A -T -X -n laptop /etc/X11/Xsession Using gconf-editor I have created the following key bindings on my laptop under /apps/metacity/global_keybindings run_command_1 CtrlShiftq run_command_2 CtrlShiftw run_command_3 CtrlShifte Similarly I have created the corresponding commands command_1 gvim command_2 firefox command_3 gnome-terminal The funny thing is that when I am directly using the laptop (means its keyboard) Shiftq launches gvim, shiftw launches firefox and so on i.e. I don't have to press the Ctrl key at all This is causing lots of problems as I cannot type Caps by using Shift key alone. I have to use Caps lock key which is rather annoying. The funny part is that when I am using the laptop over the SSH connection is described above, the keybindings work as they should. Ctrl key is indeed needed in that case for triggering the keybindings. I can't believe that there is anything wrong with the control key on the laptop's keyboard since the keys work perfectly fine when I boot it in windows. May be I have set some settings incorrectly or maybe this is a bug. If you need any more information please let me know. metacity -- 1:2.22.0-0ubuntu4 metacity-common -- 2.22.0-0ubuntu4 libmetacity0 -- 1:2.22.0-0ubuntu4 -- Regards, Ranjan P.S. [Bug 234160] Re: Copy over sftp stops after one file and closes nautilus
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. [Bug 221144] Re: After upgrading to hardy, gnome-terminal windows are not properly restored on login
I did some research regarding the window restore problem and came to the conclusion that it most likely is a bug in gnome-terminal. You can work around this by using the old version 2.18 of gnome-terminal from Ubuntu 7.10. Therefore I recommend to assign this bug to the gnome-terminal developers to verify. Things to try: -open an xterm or similar non gnome-terminal terminal application -start 2 gnome-terminal as background process (gnome-terminal ) -move both windows around the desktop to a different position -in the xterm call gnome-session-save -example output of gnome-session-save: Saving session: gnome-terminal --window-with-profile-internal-id=Default --show-menubar --role=gnome-terminal-6876--1795818576-1211528538 --active --geometry 80x24+84+634 --title [EMAIL PROTECTED]: ~ --working-directory /data2/home/pt --zoom 1 --window-with-profile-internal-id=Default --show-menubar --role=gnome-terminal-6876--1889095960-1211528539 --active --geometry 80x24+661+470 --title [EMAIL PROTECTED]: ~ --working-directory /data2/home/pt --zoom 1 -close both gnome-terminal -execute the command as specified by gnome-session-save (gnome-terminal ... --zoom 1) -both gnome-terminal will be restored, but only the last one in the list will be restored to the right position -if gnome-terminal is called one by one each one gets restored correctly: first execute gnome-terminal --window-with-profile-internal-id=Default --show-menubar --role=gnome-terminal-6876--1795818576-1211528538 --active --geometry 80x24+84+634 --title [EMAIL PROTECTED]: ~ --working-directory /data2/home/pt --zoom 1 - first window is restored; then close and execute gnome-terminal --window-with-profile-internal-id=Default --show-menubar --role=gnome-terminal-6876--1889095960-1211528539 --active --geometry 80x24+661+470 --title [EMAIL PROTECTED]: ~ --working-directory /data2/home/pt --zoom 1 - second window is restored It is also interesting that there is a difference in the content of .gnome2/session when calling gnome-session-save compared to when using the gnome session autosave feature! However content of .metacity/sessions/* is not different. Also I see that window restore works when using compiz (most poeple do, as this is the default window manager in hardy?) but not in metacity. Compiz seems to rearrange the gnome-terminal windows (which do restore wrong by theirselfs in the first place) whilst metacity doesn't and will leave the windows in their wrong positions. -- After upgrading to hardy, gnome-terminal windows are not properly restored on login https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/221144 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 225361] Re: Superuser cannot access ~/.gvfs folder when mounted
I'd argue that, based on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Importance, this bug's Importance should be Medium. As described in the duplicate I raised, things like automatically checking the success of a daily tar(1) now fails because it always exits with a non-zero status instead of only rarely: For ~/.gvfs to not follow normal Unix semantics is a major pain. As root, one can normally tar up a user's home directory, perhaps as part of a daily backup regime, without problems. That's the point of running it as root. Since the introduction of ~/.gvfs: $ sudo tar cf /dev/null .gvfs .bash_profile tar: .gvfs: Cannot stat: Permission denied tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors $ echo $? 2 $ So checking the exit status of tar for any backups problems now fails. Every day. [Bug 234322] [NEW] Lots of processes stay running after logout
Public bug reported: Gnome sessions do not shutdown cleanly. Lots of processes stay running after logout. This might be acceptable on a one user system, but it brings my LTSP systems down on its knees after some time. Also processes which don't have anything to do with gnome stay running and actually run insane consuming most of the CPU and can not be killed unless with kill -9. Firefox is one candidate for this behaviour, which of course prevents my users from using it on the next login. Attached is a ps axu from my LTSP server. The only users who are actually logged in are lebig, elias and payra. The rest (including those showing an UID instead of the username) are left over processes. This makes LTSP a nightmare! This is from a clean Hardy installation. Please FIX this! By the way, I have turned off evolution-alarm-notify, trackerd and the tracker applet for all users by default, as they produce even more open processes. Evolution is simply a mess! [Bug 233889] Re: nautilus cannot handle
I can confirm I have the same problem. Not sure what using gvfs-ls is exactly, but I can browse folders other than computer, networking, etc. My USB stick no longer mounts automatically (but definitely works as tested on other machines) nor does my mp3 player, and oddly i get the following message when accessing a CD Rom in Nautilus: mount: block device /dev/scd0 is write-protected, mounting read-only mount: /dev/scd0 already mounted or /media/cdrom0 busy mount: according to mtab, /dev/scd0 is already mounted on /media/cdrom0 yet I can access files as normal. not seen this message before. Have also noticed that there is now only 1 service type option in connect to server which is custom location. All this has occured at some point in the last week so I have reason to believe it is related. Please this is a serious issue and the importance is surely high? When looking around for other people who have the same problem there is a significant amount who have reported it in the last couple of weeks. [Bug 231972] Re: Rhythmbox imports iPod-files altough iPod-plugin is off
I can confirm this bug. I have Rhythmbox's Portable Media Player plugin disabled. However, whenever I have Rhythmbox running and then attach my iPod to the computer, Rhythmbox shows that it is attached and shows a progress bar at the bottom showing that it is importing all the songs from the iPod. Also, if I plug in my iPod, Rhythmbox will start up automatically, even though it is not set in the Preferred Applications control panel (System - Preferences - Preferred Applications) and then it will show the iPod attached and start trying to import all the files. This is very annoying as it didn't used to work this way. I prefer to use gtkpod to manage my iPod, but I like Rhythmbox as a media player and podcast client. I think this type of behavior is going to really turn people off of the Rhythmbox application if it doesn't get resolved as it doesn't appear to respect their wishes in regard to it. ** Attachment added: rhythmbox-debug.txt http://launchpadlibrarian.net/14674213/rhythmbox-debug.txt -- Rhythmbox imports iPod-files altough iPod-plugin is off https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/231972 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
