[Bug 246825] [NEW] nautilus restart entering folder

2008-07-09 Thread Mauro Dx
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Nautilus restart entering folder like .aMule in my home directory or a
folder inside a NTFS-3G mounted partition.

Error in .xsession-errors are:

**
** Eel:ERROR:(eel-preferences.c:673):update_auto_string_array: assertion
failed: (callback_data != NULL)
Initializing nautilus-share extension
seahorse nautilus module initialized

** (nautilus:12490): WARNING **: Unable to add monitor: Non supportato

for each time i enter the folder. Nautilus restart and go to my home
directory.

I have Ubuntu 8.04 updated to last packages.
Also Desktop Image doesn't present and i see only background color... but
probably it's another bug

[Bug 216762] Re: Power manager on battery critical event

2008-07-09 Thread marco.pallotta
In my acer aspire with the latest updates (hardy heron 64 bit, kernel
2.6.24-19-generic, gnome-power-manager 2.22.1-1) something changed: in
fact now I can see the battery notifications of low or critical battery
even if my system still collapse as well without shutdown procedure (I
set, in power-manager settings the event shutdown at low battery).

[Bug 184711] Re: network-admin error: The interface does not exist

2008-07-09 Thread Filofel
I see the same here.

I would add that system administration network works.
The only thing that doesn't work (at least here) is gnome-nettool, either
command line or as in
system administration network tools {Select interface} {Configure
button}
It then yelds the infamous The interface does not exist.

As a side note, I think there is something strange in the interface handling
logic when one changes the NIC, anyway. This might or might not be related to
the bug we're talking about, but the contents of /etc/network/interfaces
after a NIC change doesn't seem to be what it should be, and it takes a few
reboots (with the machine coming up with no interface at all) and manual fixing
of the /etc/network/interfaces fix before things get back to normal, and
stable. When the machine comes up with no interface at all, I see that
something has removed all but the loopback device from /etc/network/interfaces.
I'm trying to understand what goes on there.
Might also be related to what udev does: I've noticed that if I manually load
my enet driver at early boot (i.e. while still in initramfs), it appears as
eth0. While when the machine is done booting, i.e. after the root partition has
been mounted, it appears as eth1.
What I'm seeing when performing a NIC replacement might also happen when using
two alternative ways to access the network, like a wired connection and a WiFi
one used alternatively.

[Bug 209714] Re: gnome-open incorrectly uses eince to open pdf files even after I select Acroread as the default handler in nautilus

2008-07-09 Thread PC-load_letter
Confirmed here. I have epdfviewer as the default app to open pdf docs in
Nautilus. but gnome-open will always use Evince.
To be honest, I couldn't care less about this bug but Gnome-Do apparently uses
gnome-open to open docs. so I'll still suffer Evince until the bug is fixed or
Gnome-do dropping gnome-open.

[Bug 159263] Re: Gnome-screensaver does not stay on

2008-07-09 Thread unebaguettesvp
I am having the same problem. I am using Ubuntu Hardy Heron with all
packages updated. This problem started occurring about two to three
weeks ago. I have not touched the settings in gnome-screensaver since
Gutsy or maybe even Feisty. gnome-screensaver was working perfectly fine
for awhile in Hardy. I think one of the updates ruined it.

When I run gnome-screensaver --debug, I get this when the screensaver
kicks in:

The screen flashes black for less than a second and it goes to the
previous view. When I run --no-daemon:

with the previous Ubuntu Version without problems. So maybe this bug
should be reopened since it seems to be Ubuntu related.

I Have the exact same problem, in my case, it reaches 100% of CPU plus
it takes almost 40 Mb of RAM, it happens exactly when I add the Clock

adding things until I reach the Clock. Hope you can use it

[Bug 246906] [NEW] switching user in Gnome impossible

2008-07-09 Thread Sebastian
Public bug reported:

First let me say that I believe that the following bug is NOT a duplicate of
Bug 160264 although it might seem very similar at first look.
I have the following problem:
In Gnome (Hardy 8.04) I cannot switch the user twice without logging out. It
neither works with the user-switcher nor via the menu (in contrast to the bug
report Bug 160264). In addition it does not seem to be related to compiz,
because compiz is switched off for both users.
Nevertheless, the behaviour is similar to bug 160264:

Switching once works without problems. When I try to switch back, I get a black
screen but I can see the mouse cursor. In difference to Bug 160264 and similar
bug reports, the screen remains black, even after entering the password at the
position where the cursor becomes a text-cursor. In fact, entering the password
works, because after that I can blindly (using alt-f2) start some applications,
but the screen still remains black. I have found no single way to get back a
normal screen and thus no way to switch users which is a rather severe bug in
my eyes.
My Grafik Card is according to my online-manual (which provides me with two
options...)
Intel 945GM/940GML Graphics (DVMT 64/128MB).

Let me know if you need further information.

I have the same behaviour. Gutsy worked very well, Hardy does not.

2 on the right, Details Tap and File browser (PlacesComputerCDROM ) Display

So your program can display correct Thai script only in the Individual

Please correct this, and I will try to promote your program and try to

Best Wishes to everyone and thanks for all the great work.
By the way some how musics play by your program is clearer and more

[Bug 246607] Re: VFAT Cannot move file to trash, do you want to delete immediately?

2008-07-09 Thread Duncan Lithgow
@A. Walton: That's just plain silly in my opinion. If the file system
doesn't support 'proper' permissions that's none of our business. That's
the file system I choose to use, I know it's limitations. It's all fine
for the Linux world to try and solve this - but it's not a *nix problem.
It's a windows one. I think it would be wrong to implement something
which makes users feel that VFAT has something that it doesn't.

[Bug 204566] Re: Rhythmbox keeps trying to install codecs

2008-07-09 Thread teledyn
on the topic of work-arounds, here's the codec I'm asked to install

Rhythmbox-Message: Missing plugin: gstreamer|0.10|rhythmbox-

(ignoring)

I searched the ubuntu aptitude for what seemed the key parts of that
message, but I cannot find a match beyond cfourcc, which does not seem
likely to fix the error. How does one translate from these messages to
knowing the particular gstreamer codec package being requested?

[Bug 239757] Re: Rhythmbox jams after other apps use ALSA

2008-07-09 Thread teledyn
I installed libflashsupport, but while Rhythmbox is playing aoss-wrapped
sound apps still do not play; they go through the motions, but still no
sound comes out. Audacious will not play (failed audio output), but
mpg321 WILL play, although it first complains that

ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:874:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
ALSA snd_pcm_open error: Device or resource busy

I tried adding this to my .asoundrc to see if perhaps the aoss routing might be
off
 pcm.dsp0 {  type plug  slave.pcm dmix }

also tried hw0,0 but it still does not work with rhythmbox, and after
closing rhythmbox, aoss still will not run although mpg321 will.

could this be a gstreamer bug?

I can confirm this bug.

It seems like sometimes Rhythmbox/Gstreamer just can't import a file,
but if you delete the entry from Import Errors and import the file again
there is no problem at all. It has only happened to me when importing
more than one file at a time. My experience says it is around track 10
the problem occurs.

2008-07-09 Thread Martin Pitt
What kind of random number operation does this affect? If it matters
security-wise, it should be applied for all stables, and get an USN. If
it doesn't matter, why do we need the update?

[Bug 213053] Re: Totem is 'uninterruptible'

2008-07-09 Thread bisybackson
Just happened to me too, symptoms are exactly as the posts above.

It may or may not be relevant that the DVD-RW drive in my laptop popped
open while it was busy mounting the disk. It reported Unable to mount
on the desktop, after which I closed the drive door again. It mounted
and autoplayed the DVD movie in Totem. I closed Totem and am now stuck
with the uninterruptible process.

[Bug 246969] [NEW] [Intrepid alpha1] gdmgreeter freezes in VMware Server 1.0.6

2008-07-09 Thread Brett Alton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

In Intrepid alpha1, using a standard setup in VMware server 1.0.6 (which
I will attach), Intrepid fails to login after I enter in the correct
username and password. Specificially gdmgreeter, as far as I can tell,
gets stuck in an endless loop.

Proof: I went to tty1, ran 'top' went back to tty7, logged in, quickly
switched to tty1 where top and the whole computer froze. My host (Ubuntu
8.04) had a process (vmware-vmx) running at 50% with a dual-core
processor for an infinite amount of time. At this time, Intrepid was
unresponsive.

I'm attaching the VMware .vmx file while my next file will be the 'top'
screenshot showing where the guest froze.

[Bug 246996] [NEW] Audio device cannot be accessed by Ekiga when certain sound events are enabled in GNOME Sound Prefs

2008-07-09 Thread Jeff Sereno
Public bug reported:

When you have the Select check box and Click on command button sound
events in GNOME assigned to anything other than No sound in
System-Preferences-Sound-Sounds, Ekiga cannot access the audio device
and fails with the following error: Failed to open device. Impossible
to open the selected audio device (Default) for playing. Please check
your audio setup, the permissions and that the device is not busy.

Observed under Ubuntu Hardy 8.04 and Ubuntu Hardy 8.04.1. Both 32-bit
and 64-bit versions tested with identical results.

Steps to reproduce:
---
Phase 1 - Confirm normal operation
- Vanilla Ubuntu has no sounds set in System-Preferences-Sound-Sounds by
default except for the login/logout events.
- Load Ekiga and go to Edit-Configuration Druid.
- Click Forward until you get to the Audio Devices - 7/10 page.
- Leave audio output input options as Default.
- Click on the Test Settings button. Test window will appear and will record
and playback audio as expected.
- Close Ekiga.

Phase 2 - Reproduce the bug
- Go to System-Preferences-Sound-Sounds.
- Assign a sound file to the Select check box event.
- Log out of Gnome and back in again so the change takes effect.
- Load Ekiga and go to Edit-Configuration Druid.
- Click Forward until you get to the Audio Devices - 7/10 page.
- Leave audio output input options as Default.
- Click on the Test Settings button. Test window will NOT appear and you get
an error dialog saying Failed to open device.
- Close Ekiga.

Phase 3 - correct the bug
- Go back to System-Preferences-Sound-Sounds.
- Assign No sound to the Select check box event.
- Log out of Gnome and back in again so the change takes effect.
- Load Ekiga and go to Edit-Configuration Druid.
- Click Forward until you get to the Audio Devices - 7/10 page.
- Leave audio output input options as Default.
- Click on the Test Settings button. Test window will appear and will record
and playback audio as expected.
- Close Ekiga.

Phase 4 - reproduce the second bug
- Go to System-Preferences-Sound-Sounds.
- Assign a sound file to the Click on command button event.

Phase 5 - prove that the other events do not impact Ekiga
- Go to System-Preferences-Sound-Sounds.
- Assign a sound file to EVERY event EXCEPT for the Select check box and
Click on command button events.

I'm guessing that the audio device is indeed being kept busy under those
two sound events, so the bug is likely to be in the GNOME Sound Prefs
app rather than Ekiga.

[Bug 247012] [NEW] Error while copying, not enough space

2008-07-09 Thread Jeldert
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Tried copying some large files to a USB-stick. Nautilus said there was 1.8 GB.
Selected 1.8 GB of files, and tried to copy them to the USB-stick. Nautilus
gave the following error:
Error while copying to Music.
There is not enough space on the destination. Try to remove files to make space.

Nothing wrong with that, you might say. However, the Show more details option
shows a strange message:
There is 1.8 GB available, but 1.8 GB is required.

Some people might think that 1.8 GB is 1.8 GB. In addition, it could
show you how much space is required (like 10 MB).

Note, this may not be a bug, it is more of a strange error which could be
improved.

[Bug 247012] Re: Error while copying, not enough space

2008-07-09 Thread Saïvann Carignan
I agree that nautilus could, in these circumstances, tell im Mb how the
current copy process exceed the available size. This would help the
final user.

However, unless I'm wrong, I think that we can't do anything about the
main problem : according to the file system and the quantity of files to
copy from a filesystem to another, the final available size can always
differ. At least we can make this easier for the final user by showing
how many Mb should be removed from the copy selection.

Update: Try turning compiz off and seeing if the screensaver works, I

something about disabling for fullscreen things; do that and it should
work. The compiz-fusion IRC on Freenode helped me out and fixed this

[Bug 245197] Re: 2.22.3 stable update

2008-07-09 Thread Pjotr12345
Version 2.22.3 is still plagued by the bug. In a completely up-to-date
Ubuntu 8.04.1.

CPU usage is mostly at 11 % (sometimes it drops for a second to 0 % or 1
%), with peaks as high as 22 %. On my Intel Core 2 Duo machine with 2
GB RAM This is crazy.

Memory usage is acceptable though: constant at 8,7 MB. I can live with
that. :-)
