[Bug 249020] Re: Places list in Save As not up to date

2008-07-17 Thread Paul McEnery
** Description changed:

Sorry. I cant find where this bug really belongs, so I have posted it
here hoping that it can be moved to the appropriate place.

The places menu is dynamically updated when media such as CD/DVD's and
USB sticks are inserted. When you select File - Save As from any
application, the dialogue that appears does not contain the dynamic list
of attached media. This is a feature that works on Ubuntu, but not
  Xubuntu.

  See the attachments for details.
+
+ *Edit*
+ Platform: Xubuntu Hardy (8.04) w/ latest updates

[Bug 29787] Re: Backspace key in GNU Screen not detected correctly

2008-07-17 Thread Micah Cowan
Just because it's a config issue, does not mean it's not a bug. The bug
(as explained in the original description) is that changing it away from
autodetect is required.

Tracked down the source of the problem: vte will send whatever the
terminal's erase character is, even when it's undefined (that is, '\0');
screen unsets erase and other keys. Vte ought to fall back on a
reasonable value, rather than issue the obviously-wrong [EMAIL PROTECTED] ^?
seems
like a good candidate...

Screen should probably leave the value alone as well. Will investigate
why this is done, in the Savannah bug whose link was posted earlier.

[Bug 232027] Re: Closing tab results in not accepting input, when XIM is active

2008-07-17 Thread Micah Cowan
The problem isn't gnome-terminal: I've recently noticed that things like
changing workspaces, or closing windows, can cause input not to be
received in a window until I Alt-Tab twice to transfer focus away and
back. This happens in a variety of applications, and so is not gnome-
terminal specific. However, I'm unsure wherein the bug lies: could be
SCIM, could be the wm (Metacity), could be X itself... Will try to find
a better package to shift this to in the meantime.

** Changed in: scim (Ubuntu)
Sourcepackagename: gnome-terminal = scim

** Summary changed:

[Bug 103935] Re: Network Monitor doesn't show network activity after suspend

2008-07-17 Thread Marlin Forbes
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 21678 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/21678

The duplicate deals with logging out and in, this one is for waking up
from suspend.

I have this issue, on an up-to-date Hardy distribution. When waking from
suspend, the netstatus icon shows no activity when using the network.
The only way to fix it is to go into properties, select a different
interface, then re-select the original one, and it works.

The gnome-netstatus applet is at version 2.12.1-1ubuntu1 .

Note; the patch above includes literal control characters in the source,

[Bug 248358] [NEW] Paper size setting for HP Photosmart D7200 doesn't work

2008-07-17 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Steps to reproduce the bug:
1. Go to System - Administration - Printing - Printer Options
set Media Size to Photo or 4x6 inch index card
Printout Mode to Photo (on photo paper)
Media Source to Photo Tray
2. Print any photo from F-Spot.
The printer reports (on its LCD screen) Wrong paper size. Photos cannot be
printed.
I changed loglevel of cups to debug and tried the above steps again. One can
clearly see, that the paper size sent to printer is A4, no matter what's set in
Printer Options.

Additional information:
1. I use Ubuntu 8.04.1 32-bit.
2. HP Linux Imaging and Printing System (ver. 2.8.2).
3. CUPS 1.3.7-1ubuntu3 (the latest version as of 14.07.2008).
4. Pages in A4 format can be printed without problems.
5. Printing of 4x6 photos from F-Spot on my printer worked flawlessly in Ubuntu
7.10. I had to manually build and install a newer version of HPLIP, which
supports Photosmart D7200 printer to achieve that, though. After distribution
upgrade printing of photos stopped working, as described above. I doesn't work
on a fresh installed Ubuntu 8.04.1 either.
6. I have another printer: HP Photosmart 7550, which prints flawlessly 4x6
photos from F-Spot - the system-wide paper size setting seems to work here.
7. It doesn't matter if the Photosmart D7200 is connected via USB or Network
interface. The symptoms are the same in both configurations.

It's unclear to me if it's a system-wide problem (cups, hplip or maybe
the 7200s ppd file) or an F-Spot bug. There is no possibility to set
paper size directly from F-Spot. I installed Gwenview, where one can set
paper size to override the system setting. It works: I'm able to print
4x6 photos from Gwenview, no matter what paper size is set in the
system-wide Printer Options. So Gwenview seems to be able to override
the system-wide setting.

[Bug 249257] Re: top panel disappeared

2008-07-17 Thread fferreira
Let me say that the disappearance of the top panel has absolutely no
relation with the deletion of the button panel. I've deleted it several
weeks ago and using regularly the notebook (several hours a day).

Yesterday, the panel disappeared by itself, and I've read that it can be
related with compiz or Nvidia drivers in some forums, despite I could
not get it back yet.

In my oppinion this surely looks like a bug. A friend of mine had the
same problem and its solution was to reinstall everything.

[Bug 249373] [NEW] gnome session does not start window manager nor restores the previous session

2008-07-17 Thread Lukas Hejtmanek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-session

The latest gnome-session in Ubuntu/intrepid does not restore saved
session at all. It does not start window manager (I'm not using craps
like compiz or metacity, I'm using openbox, but /usr/bin/gnome-wm
correctly starts the openbox).

I have gnome-session: 2.23.4.1-0ubuntu1

I did gnome-session-save before quiting the session but nothing is
restored. Moreover, I use save session on exit option.

[Bug 249400] [NEW] evince automatically interpolates embedded PostScript images

2008-07-17 Thread BioStatMatt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

In the following Postscript code, an image should be displayed without
interpolation (smoothing). GhostScript and KGhostView, and others
correctly interpret this code. However, evince interpolates the image
automatically without regard to the explicit instruction ( /Interpolate
false ) not to. Can anybody explain why this is the case, and if it can
be fixed?

[Bug 249283] Re: Workspace Applet should display workspaces without affecting them

2008-07-17 Thread Aristotelis Grammatikakis
I agree but maybe there should be an option to display the workspaces in
rows or columns without affecting them in any other way. As it is, I
can't use it, because I would miss the cube of compiz, Expo displays
them vertically (thus not taking advantage of my wide-screen) and to
have the spaces in columns instead of rows doesn't make sense in a
vertical panel configuration.

[Bug 249279] Re: Window List doesn't display labels vertically

2008-07-17 Thread Aristotelis Grammatikakis
I apologize for having made a serious mistake in the description:
it is not the Window Selector (the one that presents them in a menu) but the
Window List applet which creates buttons along the panel.

** Summary changed:

- Window Selector doesn't display labels vertically
+ Window List doesn't display labels vertically

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gnome-applets

- The Window Selector Applet keeps the display of the labels of windows
+ The Window List Applet keeps the display of the labels of windows
horizontally even on a vertical panel, making it useless in that
configuration as names are not visible save for the first character or
  two.

[Bug 249426] [NEW] Rearrangement of Custom Menu categories

2008-07-17 Thread Aristotelis Grammatikakis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

The categories presented by the Custom Menu applet Applications,
Places, System should have an option to automatically arrange
themselves differently or allow so in the Menu Editor. For example, when
in vertical orientation, it makes more sense to place Applications and
the icon at the top, Places under it and System under that following the
flow of the horizontal placement (more common to less commonly used).

[Bug 249441] [NEW] rhythmbox messes up album art on iPod

2008-07-17 Thread Chad Ostrowski
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

same album. All of them are wrong and seem to be randomly selected from
a database of all album art in my collection.

Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instuctions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be
dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on
the crash report you wish to submit.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 223812] Re: [hardy] Regression: powernowd no longer works with some chipsets

2008-07-17 Thread Hanno Stock (hefe_bia)
Daniel Gimpelevich wrote:
Also, I think the gnome-power-manager package should be changed to
default to nothing instead, because then, it would still be OK to
 install after powernowd, [...]
I think that could be an option. But this way g-p-m would do nothing
even if powernowd is not installed.

Only by default; it could still be changed in gconf, which is how it
should be. It's academic anyway, since powernowd is part of the base
system install, rather than some optional add-on.

I agree.

Reviewing the postrm/-inst scripts I think it might not be at all
necessary to test for the presence of g-p-m. [...]
What HAS to be installed for this to work is gconftool-2.

Again, this does not account for the case where gconftool-2 is installed
 after powernowd.

Agreed, too.

I'd like somebody with some more experience to have a look at this. Also
g-p-m is flawed in a way that the settings of the last logged on user
wins. This might not be desirable on a multi-user-system.

So there are several options:

1) disable all power management in g-p-m.
2) disable power management in g-p-m by default, but let users change it.
3) disable power management in g-p-m only when powernowd is installed,
which is tricky to implement because of install order.

[Bug 182858] Re: support custom directory structures

2008-07-17 Thread Duncan Lithgow
Is this bug about importing (reading) files on an existing system, which
is where the files are to stay? No file movement?

Has this been marked as fix-released because f-stop does not require me
to use their directory structure? Because the problem is still there if
I want to copy and import from a camera, that's perhaps what's behind
bug #195773 (upstream http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=329040)

Please let me know if I've understood this. Otherwise I need to make a
new bug report.

[Bug 249020] Re: Places list in Save As not up to date

2008-07-17 Thread Vincent
According to your email [1], I'm not sure if this is a xubuntu-default-
settings issue, but I filed it there, then it'll probably be looked at
by the right people :)

[1] ...After further research, It appears this is down to (i assume)
the window managers default filechooser mode of operation, which in the
case of Xubuntu/XFCE appears to be local only mode. Does anyone know if
this is a design decision or if the default mode can be configured to
include removable media?...

[Bug 61237] Re: Drag 'n Drop in list view doesn't work

2008-07-17 Thread Jakob Unterwurzacher
** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: nautilus
+ Updating description to be clearer: CopyPaste from
+ http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=102501 (I see this on Hardy):
+
+ Description of Problem:
+ It is near-impossible to drop a file into a folder that is in list view
+ and contains only subdirectories.
+
+ Steps to reproduce the problem:
+ 1. Create a folder with a number of sub-directories, enough so
+ that the list view will have to scroll.
+ 2. Try to drop a file or directory from another window or the
+ desktop into the list.
+ 3. Cringe as you cannot get the file not to drop into one of the
+ sub-directories
+
+ Actual Results:
+ File ends up in a sub-directory
+
+ Expected Results:
+ File ends up where I wanted it
+
+ Original Description:

similar to bug #49348 (no lasso selection in list view) it is impossible
to DnD a file into a folder when in list view. Note: dragging the file
in between other files, not folders. You can drag them into a folder
just fine, in list view. But to have a file append a list of other files
in a folder, you'd have to 'move up' one level in the filesystem
hierarchy, and drag the file into the right folder.

It can off course be dragged to the tree, but to an ex-Win user this is
strange. Lasso selection and DnD do work in Explorer.

Moreover, in icon view, lasso selection and DnD are not a problem, so
this would confuse the user (I guess). Hey, yesterday I could DnD just
fine, but in this folder it won't work.

Ubuntu Dapper, up-to-date system (filing from another system, so I can't
  give the exact version numbers).

[Bug 164496] Re: davs can't find folder with spaces in the uri (hosted on sharepoint 2003)

2008-07-17 Thread pieter_dt
I found the exact same issue when mounting webdav offered by Knowledgetree.
Knowledgetree (http://www.knowledgetree.com) offers a webdav mount to the
documents it manages through a php script. (at least in our version, which is
3.4.2)
Mounting works, browsing folders with names without spaces works fine. When
there is a space in the name, I get the error again.

[Bug 249463] [NEW] Using the word 'import' is sometimes incorrect in f-stop

2008-07-17 Thread Duncan Lithgow
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

Ubuntu 8.04
f-stop 0.4.3.1

Using the word 'import' in f-stop to describe both importing file (and
'registering' them) and 'registering' a set of images without importing
them is confusing for me, let alone users new to the system and/or with
English as a second language.

Can I suggest that these two fundamentally different ways of handling
image files are keep distinct?
