[Bug 191889] Re: [MASTER] [WORKAROUND] Offline Mode feature fails to detect proper online state for networks that are managed outside of network manager.

2008-07-26 Thread msmalin
The 'iface eth1000 inet dhcp' trick didn't quite wok for me, but I'm not
entirely sure I have the same issue. I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 with a
wireless connection (Intel 3945), and I use Opera rather than firefox,
and what I've been experiencing is when I boot Ubuntu, the network
manager applet shows Networking Disabled - I can't view SSIDs, it
doesn't give me the option to create a network or manually configure a
network, nothing. I run sudo dpkg-reconfigure network-manager and it
starts behaving normally.

So, it almost seems that whenever I shut down the laptop, something
isn't getting cleared up, and when I boot it back up, whatever didn't
get reset is jacking up the configuration so that it thinks networking
is disabled.

It's happening with a External USB Hard Disk.

And also this:

My second internal hard drive appears on gnome places but nothing

No error message, nothing.

Nautilus apparently doesn't know how to mount my slave hard disk.

The odd Thing. It works on the Live CD. Behaving just like described

I can mount manually.

Hope that helps.

[Bug 241139] Re: Intrepid Ibex: Cannot access samba share Unable to mount location

2008-07-26 Thread Stephen Cradock
Since Intrepid alpha3 (at least) none of the three methods works to
mount a windows share: Nautilus sees the server, but no shares;
smbclient sees no shares; gvfs-ls sees no shares. gvfs-mount says that
volume doesn't implement mount.

smbtree sees the Windows server, but times out waiting for details.
nmblookup -S workgroup reports the (two - local and remote) members
correctly, with the correct IP addresses.

[Bug 252060] [NEW] Totem problems with S-Video on ATI Mobility Radeon X300

2008-07-26 Thread Edward Sargisson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

I've just made a brand new install of Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron so this
problem is with Totem 2.22.1.

I used Xrandr to configure the S-Video to work through my TV. Specifically I did
xrandr --addmode S-video 800x600
xrandr --output S-video --mode 800x600

Totem runs but only displays the video on the LCD.

To workaround this I ran this to turn the LCD off:
xrandr --output LVDS --off
and restarted Totem.

This allows Totem to play.

Next, I press F11 to go to full screen mode and X promptly crashes.

WORKAROUND

1. Run Alt-F2 then type gstreamer-properties.
2. On the Video tab, for the Default output select X Windows System (No XV).
3. Close.

The No XV option allows the movie to display on both the LCD and S-Video and
full screen mode works.
However, the default option of Autodetect should work properly out of the box.

[Bug 126333] Re: Regression - Volume Control using gnome panel applet and keyboard shortcut alternates mute / % volume during sliding

2008-07-26 Thread xtknight
This isn't fixed in Hardy. It is still there in the applet and the
volume control.

gnome-alsamixer doesn't have a problem, but the gstreamer-based volume
control applet and gnome-volume-control still do. I have tried this on
two computers with Hardy and it still happens with Intrepid too with two
different sounds cards (a C-Media-based Turtle Beach Montego DDL and an
Audigy2). I've tried all the patches and spent 6 hours debugging the
problem on my own. It seems that the audio driver is giving me random
values for volume indicating a problem at a lower level but I am
certainly not sure this is the case. alsamixer and gnome-alsamixer work
fine. So while the bug may not be in gnome-applets there is certainly a
bug somewhere for some of us.

[Bug 251991] Re: Mounted USB harddrive showes twice on the desktop - right click one of the icons and choose Unmount Volume results in error DBus error org.gtk.Private.RemoteVolumeMonitor.NotFound:

2008-07-26 Thread Tom Imhof
@A.Walton - I can reproduce this each time I plug in a USB drive. The
exact automatic behavior, when I plug in the external USB drive is:

Nautilus opens one window at /media/drivename
Nautilus opens a second window at /media/drivename
Nautilus shows an error message, saying: Unable to mount drivename - DBus
error org.gtk.Private.RemoteVolumeMonitor.NotFound: The given volume was not
found

Not sure, but probably it tries to mount the drive a third time and
fails?

Anyway - once I click away the message, the behavior is as described in
my original bug report.

Hope it helps!

Cheers
tom

[Bug 251976] Re: Copy disc sometimes fails, sometimes works

2008-07-26 Thread Neil Woolford
I am trying to copy a data CD. This is a normally formatted, once
written CDR that I now need another exact copy of. (I should have made
two to start with, perhaps...)

I put the CD with my data on it into the drive. After a few seconds it
automatically mounts and up comes a nautilus browser window. I already
know what is on the disc and want to copy (duplicate) the whole thing,
not use individual files. So I close the nautilus browser window.

Now I can see the Gnome desktop. On the desktop is an icon for my data
CD that I just put in the drive, the one that I want to make an exact
copy (a clone) of. I right click on that icon to bring up the menu
which has the option Copy Disc. I left click that option, to start
the disc copy process.

This far everything has worked as I would expect.

Now that I have clicked to start the copy, up comes the Copy Disc
Dialogue. For a few moments it is grey, then it turns to colour and I
can use it. I am happy with the defaults so I click the Write
button.  After this one of two things happens;

1: the correct process of reading the disc to make an image, ejecting
the original disc and prompting me to insert a blank disc and writing
the image to it, with all the prompts and dialogues that I'd expect.
This is success, and what I would expect.

2: after a few moments the Copy Disc Dialogue disappears and nothing
happens. This is a failure, and not what I would expect.

If the process fails (case two) then the icon for the original disc is
still on the desktop, and if I start the process again by right clicking
it I normally achieve a successful copy operation.

What I did notice, having nineteen discs to copy, is that there is a
reliable clue early in the process. When the Copy Disc Dialogue
appears, the desktop icon for the original master disc in the drive (the
one with data that I want to copy) should disappear from the desktop.
If that happens, the copy process will complete. Sometimes the desktop
icon for the original disc does not disappear when the Copy Disc
Dialogue appears; in this case the copy process fails as in case two
above.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make

didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How
to report bugs effectively [WWW]
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at [WWW]

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 120723] Re: windows should raise on click-release not on click

2008-07-26 Thread frederik.nnaji
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 29560 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/29560

i agree totally with this here as a usability problem.
very important feature!! i always have to drag my files down to the windowlist
in order to bring the destination window back forward...
that costs a lot of time and makes the whole thing slower.
at least there should be an option to turn such a feature on and off in
SystemPreferencesWindows

Unnecessary to say, this feature is implemented and even standard on
other popular desktop operating systems

;)

[Bug 252098] Re: Removed CD does not disappear from desktop

2008-07-26 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How
to report bugs effectively [WWW]
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at [WWW]
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

2008-07-26 Thread frederik.nnaji
here's the respective bugzilla page for the associated meta-bug;
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=133047
it's called: Bug 133047 – Fix and improve focus handling and DnD

i don't understand the part, why the information about DnD or not DnD
operation is so crucial. Doesn't it suffice to assign behaviour via
MouseButtonDown and MouseButtonRelease events?

let's hope this issue will be resolved soon, since i hear that fluxbox
already handles this and it has been around for so long in gnome...

[Bug 252088] [NEW] Gnome Menu - Places - Bookmarks: Folder icons not theme compliant

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

This is happening on Intrepid Alpha 3:

If you add a few bookmarks in Nautilus, they appear on the Gnome menu

[Bug 245365] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in malloc()

2008-07-26 Thread Walter_Wittel
Thanks for the link Sebastien, I marked this bug Invalid because I have
not seen a repro (been asked to submit another crash report), since I
first submitted. Further I reinstalled from scratch because I got bit by
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/245888, so now I have a different
version of nautilus than the one that crashed.

For the future if you know of a way to get to the ddebs site so I can get
symbols for Valgrind or what I might be doing wrong please let me know.
===
I added the following apt sources (per
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash link), but get errors trying to
update the indexes.

deb http://ddebs.ubuntu.com intrepid main universe
deb http://ddebs.ubuntu.com intrepid-updates main universe
deb http://ddebs.ubuntu.com intrepid-proposed main universe
deb http://ddebs.ubuntu.com intrepid-security main universe

When I use Firefox to navigate to (example)
http://ddebs.ubuntu.com/dists/intrepid/universe/binary-amd64/Packages
and scroll down, the download speed is only around 13 KiB/s, so maybe if
I try again later I'll be able to get to these sites OK (like the
default intrepid sites).

[Bug 252134] [NEW] rhythmbox sometimes playes MIDI

2008-07-26 Thread Scavenger
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

When double-clicking a midi file in the Music library, rhythmbox
correctly plays the file. When it's in the Play queue, the program
offers to search for a codec, which is obviously already installed, and
doesn't play the file. Strange behaviour, like clearing the Play queue
without me wanting it to or marking perfectly good songs with an error
icon, also happens.

That's odd.

[Bug 251934] Re: right clicking selected calendar event acts like clicking on open space

2008-07-26 Thread Bill Gjestvang
Not specific to exchange. Looks like you have to click on the text of
the appt. title, and then right-click that same text. Then it gives the
background menu.

If you either click on the left end (the time), or right click there, or
both, you get the correct menu.

[Bug 252141] [NEW] Wrong adress when rightclicking something and sending with evolution

2008-07-26 Thread Åskar
Public bug reported:

I am not sure what package this should be filed against but since
Evolution is involved I choose that until someone knows better.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Rightclick something and choose to send it

2. Start typing a name that you know is in your evolution adressbook
until a popup comes up with a name, click that

3. Press send and look in the To: field in the composewindow that opens. If I
for example try to send something to Åskar Andersson it will result in the
following in the To: field:
Andersson, Åskar [EMAIL PROTECTED]

This will try to send a mail to Andersson and Åskar
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

This is the bug.

** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
