[Bug 241574] Re: playback status should persist across sessions

2008-08-02 Thread Hew McLachlan
** Summary changed:

- Add option for start playback from last stop on player start
+ playback status should persist across sessions

** Description changed:

- It would be great if you'll add such future as resuming playback from last
stop on player start. It's very lazy to start playback manually every time.
- P.S. And thank you for the Rhythmbox :)
+ Rhythmbox should support an option that remembers playback status across
+ sessions. This would allow a song that was being played on close to
+ automatically resume when rhythmbox is next opened.

[Bug 209464] Re: When I login, I receive and error that the permissions are wrong for the file .dmrc

2008-08-02 Thread Ralph Corderoy
Hi CalcProgrammer1, you're being a bit unclear. I WANT others to
access my home directory -- is that for reading the files in it or
creating and deleting files too? If the latter, then I don't know of a
workaround since my suggestion above, cd chmod go-w . .dmrc, removes
write access for others to your home directory. Could you instead have
a subdirectory of $HOME, give that permissions 777, and use that as the
directory that all and sundry can fiddle with?

Re: [Bug 197762] Re: file transfer on USB disk slows down with gvfs

2008-08-02 Thread Tim Kersten
I agree that this should be assigned to the kernel, as I can't see what
other package could affect write speeds using dd. dd is low level, has
nothing to do with gfs. My guess is it's the kernel, or whatever sits
between dd and the kernel. (Is there even something there?)

On Fri, Aug 1, 2008 at 6:36 PM, Neil Burlock [EMAIL PROTECTED]
wrote:

My pci=routeirq helped, but didn't turn out to be everything I hoped
for. I can get away with copying a few GB of files now before the
slowdown sets in, but it's still happening. The pattern is slightly
different with this tweak however, since it seems to be copying fine for
a certain number of files, then it'll start on the next file and the
 slowdown will start.

If this issue isn't related to gvfs, then shouldn't it be assigned
elsewhere? It'd be nice if we could narrow down exactly which package
was causing this. My vote at the moment is the kernel because of the
improvement I've experienced from changing the boot options, but I'm
 hardly qualified.

[Bug 254165] [NEW] gdm Select Session key shortcuts not consistent

2008-08-02 Thread Dane Elwell
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

The Select Session key shortcuts are inconsistent.

When you wish to select your session, from the login prompt you press
ALT+O (? for options), then the next shortcut you press is without the
ALT key , then you have to press ALT+[num] to select session, then ALT+T
for Just this Session (or ALT+[x] for make default).

It seems inconsistent that the second shortcut is pressed without the
ALT key, when most shortcut keys that are underlined are pressed with
the ALT+key combo.

Obviously, this is low priority. I'm not sure if I'm correct with those
keys above either, because I'd have to log out to check. It goes ALT, no
ALT, ALT, ALT.

[Bug 254124] Re: rhythmbox crashes on startup

2008-08-02 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 246189] Re: Nautilus can't open usb flash drive

2008-08-02 Thread Sebastien Bacher
the raw .deb file and installed it with dpkg, which worked. It appears
gvfs-bin is having a colorful history on amd64?

what do you mean? gvfs-bin is available for all the architectures
through the package manager so you can install it as any other update

[Bug 246189] Re: Nautilus can't open usb flash drive

2008-08-02 Thread Sebastien Bacher
not sure why you consider the gvfs-bin publishing on amd64 as something
having issue, gvfs just got quite some work and updates in ubuntu, gvfs-
bin works just fine on amd64 and is not required for the mounting or
anything, it just provides command line tools which make some tasks and
debugging easier

the log you attached shows that no partition is detected on the key,
could you get an lshal log before and after inserting the usb key and
attach those to the bug?

Re: [Bug 254094] Re: silently closes with segfault while updating library at startup

2008-08-02 Thread eris23
I can't seem to be able to send the crash report. Apport vanishes while
collecting data. Two mail programs fail to send attached crash report.

On 8/2/08, Sebastien Bacher [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

 retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
 apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the
crash report you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
 /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash
in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to
 report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will

[Bug 67876] Re: [network-admin] ipw2200/Intel 2915abg Wireless 128-bit WEP doesn't work, must set up manually

2008-08-02 Thread stefanwilkens
I'm using Ndiswrapper 1.53 to work with my broadcom chip, it seems the
problem is a bug that snuck into network-manager after 6.10.

I can connect fine using iwconfig, but wifi radar and network-manager
seem unable to correctly configure my wireless.

Suggested solution was to install a previous version of the network
manager (aka the ubuntu 6.10 one) network-
manager_0.6.3-2ubuntu6_i386.deb which doesn't appear to have the bug.

[Bug 191889] Re: [MASTER] [WORKAROUND] Offline Mode feature fails to detect proper online state for networks that are managed outside of network manager.

2008-08-02 Thread Springnuts
Hi Alexander

Thanks for suggestions.

Sadly neither workaround works for me. Probably as I am using an Orange
linebox - using the method described here
http://www.orangeproblems.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=19235sid=2975a93d5718ea39cf1a04afd0de8d98
as the livebox is odd. My Hardy Heron is still waiting for the livebox
key (it does not realise it is already connected) - which may be why it
thinks it must be offline. Confused? I am!

My machine is running 8.04 on nvidia motherboard, with plenty of memory and
disk space. I have installed standard GNOME 2.20.5-0.
Kernel is 2.6.24-16-generic with nvidia-kernel-common-20051028+1ubuntu8 and
linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24-16-generic.

The main display ends up being totally white with no response from the keyboard
or mouse. Other ttys are available but without X. Restarting the system returns
to normal.
Logging out and logging in again as another user is not a problem.

[Bug 254199] [NEW] SMTP AUTH does not properly detect if the remote server closes the connection

2008-08-02 Thread David Given
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

If Evolution tries to connect to a SMTP server to send mail, and the
remote server closes the connection while Evolution is busy (for
example, if Evolution prompts the user for a password and the server
times out), then Evolution treats the disconnection as an AUTH failure
and will keep prompting the user for a password even though there's
nothing listening at the other end. The only way of getting the mail
sent is to press CANCEL and then try again with Send Receive.

(Related issue: this workaround only works because Evolution retries
with the last password the user entered --- except Evolution knows that
the password is not valid because it thinks (incorrectly) that the
remote server rejected it. Should it retry at all or simply forget the
password?)

In this situation, Evolution should notice that the connection has been
lost and reestablish it. (It would also be polite to prompt the user for
the password *before* opening the connection, to avoid holding the
connection open for long periods of time --- a lot of SMTP servers these
days use very short timeouts as an antispam measure; the one I found
this bug on is set to five seconds.)

This is Evolution 2.22.3.1 on Heron.

[Bug 186633] [NEW] [hardy] After disk space exhausted, a key is written to .gconf that disallows login and has to be manually removed

2008-08-02 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I ran out of disk space yesterday, rebooted and could no longer log in
in hardy without removing every dotfile in my home directory. By the
well-known bisection method, I found that the culprit is a key in
.gconf/desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/, a directory named host-
frattaglia (frattaglia is my hostname). Removing this directory, that
only contains empty files and directories, I can log in again.

Atttaching the zipped key.
