[Bug 39890] Re: characters change when selecting text

2008-08-06 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
This happens on not-properly-produced .pdf files, with custom encodings
but without cmap (toUnicode) entries. Unfortunately, there are a lot of
them out there!

When selecting text, evince (erroneously) displays the characters that
will be copied to the clipboard, instead of the original glyphs.

Explanation: There is a PDF specification feature, where one can
declare that the character 'A' maps to the glyph 'B'. So if 'A' is
written in a pdf text object, it displays as 'B' but it gets copied as
'A'!

My English is poor, so I made a ***minimal*** .pdf that reproduces this
bug.

If you open it in Evince and select all the text, the line that contains
BCDΓ
should display
ABCdisplay artifact
when selected!

Kind regards,
Alkis Georgopoulos

[Bug 255227] [NEW] problem in list view of folder items

2008-08-06 Thread baiju
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I'm using ubuntu8.04.Nautilus1:22.3-0ubuntu2. when we try to resize the
column width in list view (name, size, type, date) it is not working
properly. If we drag the seperator of type to the right to reduce its
column width,it doesn't do it,instead it increases the with of the size
column to the left. The resizing of any column is not working at all
properly.

[Bug 255228] [NEW] Disabling the suspend and hibernate locks via gconf-editor in Intrepid Ibex doesn't do anything

2008-08-06 Thread Paul Weiss
Public bug reported:

These steps once worked in Ubuntu:

- open terminal
- type: sudo gconf-editor
- navigate to /apps/gnome-power-manager/locks
- disable lock_on_hibernate
- disable lock_on_suspend

Even with these two locks disabled, I still get asked for my password
when I resume from suspend.

It's so annoying to enter your password each time you resume from
suspend...

[Bug 255242] [NEW] Window title doesn't respect LC_MESSAGES

2008-08-06 Thread Sami Haahtinen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

The window title in gnome-terminal doesn't respect the LC_MESSAGES
variable while the rest of the text in gnome-terminal does. This can
easily be reproduced by setting the following:

LANG=fi_FI.UTF_8
LC_MESSAGES=en_US.UTF-8

and by running something that doesn't change the window title. My zsh
setup does change it so i tested by running a single application within:
gnome-terminal -e alsamixer

tested with 2.23.4.2-0ubuntu2

that's no different but it's likely one of those random issue,
scrollkeeper has quite some bugs open, there is a crasher somewhere but
it doesn't happen all the time so just a retry is enough to get things
working usually, closing the bug since it has no details on the issue
and that works correctly now

[Bug 252498] Re: gnome-keyring asks for SSH passphrase *every* time I use ssh

2008-08-06 Thread Sebastien Bacher
you don't bother me but don't give workarounds on bugs which could lead
other users to break their installation, the binary you suggest
replacing is installed for a reason. the bug tracker is there to
describe and work on software issues, not to act an user forum and
suggest user hints

now if you read the bug you will see there is a comment before yours
mentionning that downgrading to the hardy version does workaround the
issue, and the bug is about the ssh agent, how would it work if users
replace the dialog to enter the passphrase like you suggested there?

[Bug 159130] Re: Interactive codec installer should not require restart of Totem

2008-08-06 Thread Michael Vogt
Hi,

I just tried to reproduce this problem (thanks for the instructions and
the codectest package) but it worked for me. I started with
wheelie.mov and that asked me for codecs, but started playing right
after they were installed. Then I clicked on the other ones and it seem
to be working too. The next that required codecs was the .mpg one, but
after installing them (the codecs) it worked right away too.

If you still have a VM with hardy (maybe with a snapshot) could you
please check if the order of the files is important for the failure or
something like this? Maybe it only fails if the first file is a specific
one?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems.
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 255309] [NEW] f-spot crashes after export to Facebook is finished

2008-08-06 Thread kbit
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

On ubuntu hardy (all updates) with f-spot 0.4.3.1.

I started uploading photos to Facebook.
To this point, I uploaded 4 albums, with 7, 60, 60 and 15 photos respectively.

What happened:
After uploading the first album, f-spot kept being alive.
After each of the other 3 albums, though, it crashed to the desktop.

Expected:
f-spot should not crash after uploading photos.

I'll attach the console output of the last crash.

[Bug 255321] [NEW] gedit refuses width resize sometimes

2008-08-06 Thread Chip
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

When gedit width matches screen width upon opening a text file it allows height
resize but not width resize until I turn wordwrap off and on. I have noticed
this several times and I'm not sure it always does this since I only notice it
when it occurs (of course).
Gedit 2.18.1 running under Ubuntu 7.04 all auto updates current as of the 6th

noticed by the majority.

[Bug 255309] Re: f-spot crashes after export to Facebook is finished

2008-08-06 Thread kbit
More observations:

Since I was watching the first upload (the only one that didn't crash
f-spot), I got the idea that it might be important which window is
selected when the upload finishes.

5th upload: I selected the f-spot main window (not the progress window).
Result: f-spot froze. The main window turned grey; the progress window kept its
gtk colors, but was not responsive.

6th upload: Having the firefox window focused as usual.
Result: Crash as usual.

[Bug 254424] Re: Search as you type issue

2008-08-06 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs
