[Bug 259930] Re: gnome-terminal keeps tabs in memory
Same thing still happens. Here's how I test. Open two tabs. In tab #1, cp ~/test/15_GB_File ~/test/Another_File In tab #2, watch du -h ~/test/* Close tab #1 The watch will show you that the file is still growing. I tried both methods of closing the terminal. [Bug 259978] [NEW] GVFS/Nautilus won't list or connect to samba shares
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gvfs I am using Ubuntu 8.04 with packages up to date. My problem WAS that nautilus would list my Samba and Windows hosts, but when I clicked on them I wouldn't get any shares. I could use smbclient just fine, but gvfs-ls would timeout when trying to list samba shares, ie gvfs-ls smb://MASTER/core . I fired up wireshark and noticed that whenever I used gvfs-ls smb:// that it sends out a DNS request to my ISP and gets back a successful lookup (wtf?) to 64.158.56.56. I use CHARTER COMMUNICATIONS and they resolve all bad lookups to their helpful search page, which explains why I get the timeouts. I went to my /etc/samba/smb.conf file and uncommented and changed this line: name resolve order = lmhosts host wins bcast to name resolve order = lmhosts wins bcast host rebooted, and GVFS and Nautilus (as well as all GVFS enabled apps) were working like a dream. ** Affects: gvfs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- GVFS/Nautilus won't list or connect to samba shares https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/259978 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gvfs in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 260017] [NEW] Memory and Swap History Pies/Dials are back-to-front
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor The two circular graphics to represent Memory and Swap percentage usage in the resources tab are back-to-front in that they 'fill' in an anticlockwise manner. This goes against intuition with respect to any dial in the real world. It could be therefore confused as to which is the foreground and which is the background colour on the dial and therefore is it say reading 25% vs 75%, or 5% vs 95%. I know one could just read the figure in parentheses to the right of the dials, but then what's the point of the graphical representation? [Bug 260069] [NEW] gnome-display-properties does not display EDID info
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center The majority of resolution problems in the Ubuntu forums appear to be caused by incorrect or missing EDID information. Either the monitors are not generating this information or the graphics cards are not passing it on. Having a simple display of the information that is being used to calculate the available resolutions would help the user to determine the cause of their resolution problem. Ideally, this information should be editable, to enable the user to put in the values from their monitor manual. This should automatically set HorizSync and VertRefresh values in the Monitor section, and set UseEDID to False in the Device section, of xorg.conf, or wherever the new tools set X configuration values. For the majority of users, this information would not be necessary, and would simply be informative, since their resolutions will have been automatically picked up and set. For those users where this had not happened, it would be an invaluable tool to troubleshoot their problem and to fix it without having to learn about manually configuring X or interpreting the text of the log files. ** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- gnome-display-properties does not display EDID info https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/260069 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 220957] Re: Fails to see blank CD/DVDs for writing
Results of further testing: Immediately after the above test, I was able to play a DVD movie (which was not happening before- at least since I upgraded to Hardy- alll was OK in Gutsy), and I went to bed relatively happy that a crude workaround was in place. Now I cant repeat this last part... inconsistency? Still after a reboot with a blank DVD in place it automounts and Brasero sees it... So Although I was able to burn an ISO and then do another one, it appears that after I closed the DVD application (Brasero and/or VLC) and with no disk in the drive things changed, and 'auto-mount' failed to happen thereafter. (Sorry, Im a bit of a newby and 'auto-mount' might not be the correct technical term!) I also find that after a reboot with a blank DVD, if I immediately replace the DVD with a movie, the DVD burner 'disappears', and does not return - ie it is not a visible/mountable device (until a further reboot with a blank DVD in place...) All very strange - I think that I will have to roll back to Gutsy after all. I was just getting into playing with video editing and compiling DVDs!!! ;^( Ian -- Fails to see blank CD/DVDs for writing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/220957 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus-cd-burner in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 259545] Re: f-spot crashes when attempting to close after unsuccessfully opening a psd
When a program crashes it generate a .crash file in /var/crash/ which is used to report the bug, if it doesn't generate for you that's probably because you don't have apport running or isn't enabled, for enabling apport you can do the following: gconftool -s /apps/update-notifier/show_apport_crashes --type bool true Change the 0 to 1 in : sudo nano /etc/default/apport Once Apport is enabled you need to start the process do that with the following command. sudo /etc/init.d/apport start Thanks, -- f-spot crashes when attempting to close after unsuccessfully opening a psd https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/259545 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to f-spot in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 259799] Re: Suggestion: support for ecryptfs in Nautilus
Although I've identified several specific examples, the underlying request is really just one thing: support for encryptfs mounted Private directories in Nautilus. There didn't seem to be much point in submitting each issue individually, as they will all rely on some lower-level recognition of encryptfs mount points in Nautilus, and until that is in place there's not much point dwelling on the specifics of the UI. I'm also not sure how relevant this is to upstream Nautilus. At the moment the use of ecryptfs mounted ~/Private directories is very specifically a Ubuntu thing. If it leads to further uptake of ecryptfs in a similar manner, then this might be worth pushing upstream, but at the moment I see it as largely a Ubuntu Nautilus requirement, rather than a Gnome Nautilus requirement. This is most definitely a wishlist feature, but if encrypted ~/Private directories do start to see widespread use with the release of Intrepid, it would make life much simpler for end users if there was some consistency in the way they are handled. -- Suggestion: support for ecryptfs in Nautilus https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/259799 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
