[Bug 259930] Re: gnome-terminal keeps tabs in memory

2008-08-21 Thread Michael Lustfield
Same thing still happens.

Here's how I test.

Open two tabs.
In tab #1, cp ~/test/15_GB_File ~/test/Another_File
In tab #2, watch du -h ~/test/*
Close tab #1

The watch will show you that the file is still growing.

I tried both methods of closing the terminal.

I know it's with gnome-terminal and not my laptop. I've seen this happen
on other systems as well.

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

[Bug 259976] [NEW] gnome-power-manager can't send to hibernate

2008-08-21 Thread Michael Lustfield
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Ubuntu 8.04.1 x86_64
Sony Vaio VGN-FZ240E

I launch up gnome-power-manager when I log into openbox.

When I select Suspend, the computer seems to suspend just fine. I'm
going to try it now to make sure. Works perfect.

When I select Hibernate, my screen goes black and sits there. I don't
see any HD activity or anything. I waited a few minutes too. I
eventually had to just kill it with the power button.

When it starts coming back up from the hard kill, it runs through
recovering the journal and continues on with a completely normal boot.

[Bug 259978] [NEW] GVFS/Nautilus won't list or connect to samba shares

2008-08-21 Thread Steve Melvin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gvfs

I am using Ubuntu 8.04 with packages up to date.

My problem WAS that nautilus would list my Samba and Windows hosts, but
when I clicked on them I wouldn't get any shares. I could use smbclient
just fine, but gvfs-ls would timeout when trying to list samba shares,
ie gvfs-ls smb://MASTER/core .

I fired up wireshark and noticed that whenever I used gvfs-ls smb://
that it sends out a DNS request to my ISP and gets back a successful
lookup (wtf?) to 64.158.56.56. I use CHARTER COMMUNICATIONS and they
resolve all bad lookups to their helpful search page, which explains
why I get the timeouts.

I went to my /etc/samba/smb.conf file and uncommented and changed this
line:

name resolve order = lmhosts host wins bcast
to
name resolve order = lmhosts wins bcast host

rebooted, and GVFS and Nautilus (as well as all GVFS enabled apps) were
working like a dream.

[Bug 259981] [NEW] Sound fails after un-pause (gnometris)

Binary package hint: gnome-games

I expect the sounds to continue to work after pause.

After playing a few minutes and needing to pause the game, I paused it

do not play.

I had enable sounds before the start of the game. After having to end
the game to check the 'sounds' setting in preferences, yes the sounds

reopening) and sound is still missing even though the preference is

[Bug 259990] [NEW] Brasero does not copy multisession CD:s properly

[Bug 260017] [NEW] Memory and Swap History Pies/Dials are back-to-front

2008-08-21 Thread Richard Rickwood
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor

The two circular graphics to represent Memory and Swap percentage usage
in the resources tab are back-to-front in that they 'fill' in an
anticlockwise manner.

This goes against intuition with respect to any dial in the real world.
It could be therefore confused as to which is the foreground and which
is the background colour on the dial and therefore is it say reading 25%
vs 75%, or 5% vs 95%.

I know one could just read the figure in parentheses to the right of the
dials, but then what's the point of the graphical representation?

I suspect that a fix would nearly be just the addition (or removal) of a
minus sign at a strategic point somewhere in the source code.

[Bug 190366] Re: Nautilus does not identify partitions, except by size

2008-08-21 Thread John McCabe-Dansted
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: nautilus

In my computer I have a large number of hdd partitions, many of them
the same size. As the name of the partition (in nautilus) contains only
the size, this means that many have the same name. In the details view
- the type is listed as unknown, however the type of the partitions could
- be retrieved from e.g. 'mount' or fdisk.
+ the type is listed as unknown, however the type (ext3/vfat etc.) of the
+ partitions could be retrieved from e.g. 'mount' or fdisk.

Also I cannot right click the partitions and get details such as which
device the partition is on. This makes it hard to tell which partition
  is which.

This is on Hardy (alpha liveCD) with nautilus 1:2.21.90-0ubuntu1

  I would expect nautilus to:
  1) give a different name to each partition
  2) make it easy to get detailed info on the partition (such as device name)
  3) give extra information in detailed view over icon view.

running inside of it.

This is the command I use to launch irssi.
alltray -s -na -i ~/.icons/irssi-invert.png gnome-terminal --hide-menubar -t

-t irssi should make the title be irssi.

[Bug 260069] [NEW] gnome-display-properties does not display EDID info

2008-08-21 Thread CatKiller
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

The majority of resolution problems in the Ubuntu forums appear to be
caused by incorrect or missing EDID information. Either the monitors are
not generating this information or the graphics cards are not passing it
on. Having a simple display of the information that is being used to
calculate the available resolutions would help the user to determine the
cause of their resolution problem.

Ideally, this information should be editable, to enable the user to put
in the values from their monitor manual. This should automatically set
HorizSync and VertRefresh values in the Monitor section, and set UseEDID
to False in the Device section, of xorg.conf, or wherever the new tools
set X configuration values.

For the majority of users, this information would not be necessary, and
would simply be informative, since their resolutions will have been
automatically picked up and set. For those users where this had not
happened, it would be an invaluable tool to troubleshoot their problem
and to fix it without having to learn about manually configuring X or
interpreting the text of the log files.

[Bug 220957] Re: Fails to see blank CD/DVDs for writing

2008-08-21 Thread Nzukca
Results of further testing:

Immediately after the above test, I was able to play a DVD movie (which
was not happening before- at least since I upgraded to Hardy- alll was
OK in Gutsy), and I went to bed relatively happy that a crude workaround
was in place.

Now I cant repeat this last part... inconsistency? Still after a reboot
with a blank DVD in place it automounts and Brasero sees it...

So Although I was able to burn an ISO and then do another one, it
appears that after I closed the DVD application (Brasero and/or VLC) and
with no disk in the drive things changed, and 'auto-mount' failed to
happen thereafter. (Sorry, Im a bit of a newby and 'auto-mount' might
not be the correct technical term!)

I also find that after a reboot with a blank DVD, if I immediately
replace the DVD with a movie, the DVD burner 'disappears', and does not
return - ie it is not a visible/mountable device (until a further reboot
with a blank DVD in place...)

All very strange - I think that I will have to roll back to Gutsy after
all. I was just getting into playing with video editing and compiling
DVDs!!! ;^(

[Bug 259545] Re: f-spot crashes when attempting to close after unsuccessfully opening a psd

2008-08-21 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
When a program crashes it generate a .crash file in /var/crash/ which is
used to report the bug, if it doesn't generate for you that's probably
because you don't have apport running or isn't enabled, for enabling
apport you can do the following:

gconftool -s /apps/update-notifier/show_apport_crashes --type bool true

Change the 0 to 1 in :

sudo nano /etc/default/apport

Once Apport is enabled you need to start the process do that with the
following command.

sudo /etc/init.d/apport start

Thanks,

[Bug 259799] Re: Suggestion: support for ecryptfs in Nautilus

2008-08-21 Thread Mark Crutch
Although I've identified several specific examples, the underlying
request is really just one thing: support for encryptfs mounted Private
directories in Nautilus.

There didn't seem to be much point in submitting each issue
individually, as they will all rely on some lower-level recognition of
encryptfs mount points in Nautilus, and until that is in place there's
not much point dwelling on the specifics of the UI.

I'm also not sure how relevant this is to upstream Nautilus. At the
moment the use of ecryptfs mounted ~/Private directories is very
specifically a Ubuntu thing. If it leads to further uptake of ecryptfs
in a similar manner, then this might be worth pushing upstream, but at
the moment I see it as largely a Ubuntu Nautilus requirement, rather
than a Gnome Nautilus requirement.

This is most definitely a wishlist feature, but if encrypted ~/Private
directories do start to see widespread use with the release of Intrepid, it
would make life much simpler for end users if there was some consistency in the
way they are handled.

[Bug 220957] Re: Fails to see blank CD/DVDs for writing

2008-08-21 Thread Shang Wu
@Nzukca

Can you provide me with your lshal command output from the terminal with
and without booting the DVD in your DVD-ROM?

Here is how you can run the lshal command:
0. Boot with the DVD in your DVD-ROM drive
1. Open terminal from Applications Accessories
2. Copy/Paste the following in the terminal:

lshal lshal-with_dvd.txt

-
Repaet the same step without DVD, but use the following command:

lshal lshal-without_dvd.txt

/

Now, you will see 2 files under your home directory. Please zip them and
upload them. :)
