[Bug 238670] Re: gnome power manager No option in logoff dialog for suspend

2008-08-29 Thread gobble
I see the same problem appeared yesterday after I updated Ubuntu
Hardy/Gnome .

Yesterday 27th Aug 2008, the suspend option disappeared in the screen
that has buttons for shutdown, logout, lock screen, switch user etc ...
now the hibernate button has vanished!!

I am unable to suspend or hibernate because there are no buttons in any
app anywhere now!!

Unfirtunately I changed syslog so the dist-upgrade was not logged in
/var/log but there appears to be some regression in the Ubuntu updates
after 26th.

[Bug 19498] Re: lastest evolution shows neither tasks nor calendar

2008-08-29 Thread sodasound
Hi,

i'm sorry I'm acting like an asshole. I'm working for free just like
everyone else here, I think. I REALLY don't know what I'm doing, aside
from clicking on things that look promising, and doing what looks best.
I abandoned code for music because music is eternal and changes only for
the sake of joy and truth. Meanwhile, I'm trying to suck it up, and do
stunt-coordination for a start--up theatre company, among other things.
Is there a way I can find my files in console? I'll probably have no
problem protecting the actors, but can I protect the show?

I'll make the journey, If I know what spells to cast and what weapons to
carry, in order to protect the magic of the few artist in my land who
even attempt to tell the truth.

Okay, I'm on stunts, not script (Shakespeare's got that covered),
Is anyone still here? Am I the only one that missed the boat?

Well, it's always nice to see the ocean again, and the gulls posing for
the shutter-bugs on the fishing-boats...reminds me of my childhood. Just
works.

My files are still there somewhere. Please, just help me find them.

[Bug 158167] Re: GDM Login fails w/Xen Kernel 2.6.22-14-xen

2008-08-29 Thread Leann Ogasawara
The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.
There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-
image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and
test.

--or--

2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer
2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4.
Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced.
You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the
bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please
open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the
2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please
specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26
kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.

[Bug 262553] [NEW] If ~/Desktop cannot be accessed, home folder is displayed permanently

2008-08-29 Thread Ben vK
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I dual boot Windows XP and Ubuntu on my laptop. To keep my personal
information easily accessible, I symlinked directories in my home folder
to their equivalents in XP, including my Desktop.

This works fine until, for some reason, my XP partition cannot be
mounted (for example, if Windows freezes and cannot be cleanly shut
down), in which case my home folder is displayed on my desktop.

That's fine, but once I've rectified the problem and mounted the drive,
the desktop keeps displaying my home folder, despite options set in
gconf-editor, and after countless logouts/reboots. I expect it to g back
to ~/Desktop the next time I log in.

I'm using Intrepid Alpha 4, although the same occurred on Hardy.

2008-08-29 Thread James Collier
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, , because your description didn't
include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem
including:
*Version of Ubuntu you are using
*Version of GDM you are using
*Whether the problem still occurs in the latest version of GDM
Thanks!

[Bug 262576] [NEW] nautilus-connect-server can't connect while connection must be possible

2008-08-29 Thread a-r-k-i-b-o-t-t
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Just 2 examples:

- Connect to a network location - ssh - the dialog immediatley (!) pops
up: Can't display location sftp://; Timed out when logging in

As i point out - there is no timeout involved.

The ssh service is reachable and works just fine.

- Also this nautilus-connect-server fails at smb. Connecting to a share
on box fails while another share on the same box still is perfectly
reachable in the nautilus tree

seen in ubuntu 8.04.1

[Bug 122993] Re: ondemand governor does not use maximum frequency under load

[Bug 262589] [NEW] Seahaven cheats :) wont play queen to king

2008-08-29 Thread Gerard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-games

This is the second game in a row where it wont let me put a queen onto a
king in the Tableau, they are of the same suit.

I have attached a screenshot.

The version I have here is AisleRiot 2.22.3 running on Ubuntu 8.04

I expect to be able to play the queen of clubs onto the king of clubs.

What does happen is I can move the jack but not the queen.

The first time it was with diamonds, same thing, queen to king would not
happen.

Ok, then why did it let me put the jack of clubs on the queen of clubs?
My rules say:
The Tableau is built down by suit. Only the top card or build of
cards can be moved. A build of cards can only be moved if the
number of cards in the build is equal or less than one more than the
number of Reserve slots free. Empty spaces in the Tableau can only
be filled with a King or a build starting with a King.

Hang on, I see it now A build of cards can only be moved if the
number of cards in the build is equal or less than one more than the
number of Reserve slots free.

you are right in it is in the rules, just the wrong rules :)

Cheers

[Bug 175530] Re: Evolution crashes on startup in calendar_component_init

2008-08-29 Thread Valentijn Sessink
This also goes for shared configuration in 6.06 to 8.04 - i.e. sharing
your profile between LTS distro's is not possible.

I could track this down to the gconf /apps/evolution/calendar setting named
sources; If I'm right, there are three candidates left:
propertiesproperty name=create_source value=no//properties
 color_spec=#DDBECE
property name=delete value=no//properties

So deleting all three helps; but it's most likely just one of them that
crashes Evolution. I will test next time the problem comes up which one
it is.

[Bug 262656] [NEW] no help in python console

Public bug reported:

If this is your first time using Python, you should definitely check out
the tutorial on the Internet at http://www.python.org/doc/tut/.

Enter the name of any module, keyword, or topic to get help on writing
Python programs and using Python modules. To quit this help utility and
return to the interpreter, just type quit.

To get a list of available modules, keywords, or topics, type modules,
keywords, or topics. Each module also comes with a one-line summary
of what it does; to list the modules whose summaries contain a given word
such as spam, type modules spam.

You are now leaving help and returning to the Python interpreter.
If you want to ask for help on a particular object directly from the
interpreter, you can type help(object). Executing help('string')
has the same effect as typing a particular string at the help prompt.

and what it should be doing is only this:

When assigning a priority to a task in evolutions task list, evolution
suddenly crashes. I can repeat the chrash. After a varying number of

2-10 attempts are needed before it crashes.

[Bug 262683] [NEW] Top gnome-panel redraws wrongly when unhiding in Intrepid alpha-4

2008-08-29 Thread t[h]inker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Gnome-panel on top redraws wrong way when unhiding with the panel
animation enabled. The light gray area of panel gets all messed up with
the bit darker grey line on bottom of the panel. Whats more, items on
the panel are not redrawing correctly when moving them around. Side and
bottom panel are not affected by this bug.

I experience this behavior in up-to-date Intrepid alpha-4 virtualized in
KVM with gnome-panel 1:2.23.90.1-0ubuntu1. I only wonder that nobody
else noticed this bug, can this be caused by some KVM-ralated issue?

[Bug 262555] Re: Ubuntu quit/logout/shutdown dialog is gone

2008-08-29 Thread Felipe De la Puente
I just want to add, that when you try to shutdown the computer through
your gnome's personal desktop options(both of them) it doesn't work, one
must instead logout, and then shutdown from the main gnome-login screen.
Obviously there are no problems if you shutdown by commands.

Greetings, Felipe.

PS: Intrepid is getting really nice, I liked it so far.

[Bug 256256] Re: Unacknowledged reboot required before folder can be shared

2008-08-29 Thread Thierry Carrez
Reproduced on current hardy.

The problem is that the user gets added to the sambashare group, but the
group membership won't be refreshed until the user logs out and back in.
It's not really a samba problem, it's more a problem in the design of
that nautilus Sharing Options dialog box. It should make clear that
the user won't be able to share folders until he logs back in, or do
some magic to get the extended rights immediately.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instuctions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be
dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on
the crash report you wish to submit.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

to keyserver.pgp.com, and keyserver.ubuntu.com is currently in the
process of timing out again.

[Bug 212098] Re: easy file sharing not notifying about logout/login

2008-08-29 Thread Jessie Lawrence
this bug was not present in 7.10 and is therefore a regression. i do not
think that you should have to relogin/restart the computer in order to
start setting up shares, that is way too inconvenient, and you didnt
have to do that in gutsy. instead, how about automatically restarting
samba after installing the sharing services, that way you dont need to
restart?

or you could make it so that samba is never started in the first place
until you are finished installing the services, or something like that?

whatever. it doesnt matter how its fixed, as long as its fixed in the
best way possible. :) i do not want to have to logout and then log back
in to start sharing stuff after installing, many people will find that
inconvenient and will be annoyed, even though it only happens once (it
shouldnt happen at all).

[Bug 262712] [NEW] New mail icon doesn't dissapear when it should

2008-08-29 Thread sharperguy
Public bug reported:

When the flashing icon for a new mail message appears in the
notification-area, it disappears correctly when the new message is
opened. However, if one of the messages is deleted instead of read, the
icon doesn't disappear and continues to flash until single-clicked.

[Bug 233889] Re: nautilus cannot handle

2008-08-29 Thread Jeff Bronks
I reinstalled 8.04 and the problem went away. I know this isn't as
satisfying as finding and fixing the problem, but it's really nice to
have everything working again. My home directory survived the
reinstall, so I reloaded various apps including Thunderbird and GnuCash,
and they were able to find their files and carry on working as if
nothing had happened. Result!

My guess is that my system was damaged when I upgraded it from Gutsy to
Hardy. There may be a bug in the upgrade process.

[Bug 212098] Re: easy file sharing not notifying about logout/login

2008-08-29 Thread Chris Coulson
Jessie - The problem isn't that the Samba daemon needs restarting. The
problem is that nautilus-share (which was introduced in to Hardy) uses a
feature of Samba called 'usershare', which allows the administrator to
control who can add shares. The administrator does this by adding users
to the 'sambashare' group. Members of this group can then add and remove
shares.

The maintainer scripts for Samba automatically add all users who are
members of group 'admin' to group 'sambashare' when Samba is installed.
However, the user won't belong to this group until they log out and back
in again (and I don't think that there is any way around that).

This wasn't a problem in Gutsy because the usershare feature wasn't
used, and users were not added to a new group when Samba was installed.
In Gutsy, only administrators could add/remove shares.

Hope that clarifies it a bit.

[Bug 191842] Re: [gutsy] File Chooser displays .hiddenDirectory regardless of hidden files preferences and hides noToHideDirectory

2008-08-29 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be
reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the
development release - Intrepid Ibex. It would help us greatly if you
could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next
release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release
at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your
help.
