[Bug 272414] [NEW] evolution erasing passwords for mail accounts, if a problem occurs one time

2008-09-20 Thread tyler
Public bug reported:

The problem occurs, when a valid password is entered for an account and
a problem occurs when fetching a mail (for example the server only
allows 3 logins in 5 minutes and we try 5 times)

Steps to reproduce:
  - Create an e-mail account in evolution and enter your configuration data.
(Tested with pop3 and imap)
  - Fetch your mails from the server, enter your passphrase.
  - Retry fetching, until the server denies login (exceed maximum retry / min
count of server)
  - See your passwords removed for this account.

[Bug 272417] [NEW] intrepid - no message if account locked (usermod -L username)

2008-09-20 Thread Savvas Radević
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex 8.10 alpha 5 (updated)

As it is now, when the user account has expired, the gnome desktop manager
shows a message Account has expired when the user tries to login.
But when the user account is locked, the user only sees a message that the
password entered is not correct.

It would be nice if the user could see that the account is locked and
that they should contact the administrator.

[Bug 53962] Re: Nautilus-cd-burner is unable to blank DVD-RW

2008-09-20 Thread psl
Ubuntu 8.04.1, i386, Nautilus 2.22.3

I can reproduce the issue. When I try to write an ISO image to a DVD+RW
or DVD-RW and the rewritable disk s not empty, I am informed that disk
has to be erased. When I press ERASE button, I get an error after a
while that disk cannot be erased. and that is correct, DVD-RW disk has
to be formatted...

Nautilus should run format (not erase) for DVD rewritable disks. Or it
should offer a FORMAT button for DVD-RW and DVD+RW disks.

As a workaround, I run GnomeBaker and format a disk manually from Tools
menu.

adjust it in power management. which makes me think that this bug might
be a combination of a couple of bugs, or its own bug. I'm Not sure
though.

[Bug 272445] [NEW] composited volume mute icon should have a red cross

2008-09-20 Thread Nicolò Chieffo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

conme-control-center 2.23.90-0ubuntu11

This problem is only present when compiz/metacity_composited is active!
When I hit the mute button a nice transparent OSD icon appears, but in my
opinion it's not clear at all.
The only difference between mute and not_mute are 3 waves coming out from the
speaker.
it could be more clear if the mute icon had a red cross near the speaker,
exactly as the not composited OSD icon.

[Bug 224126] Re: brasero does not check integrity

2008-09-20 Thread Dan Andresan
using brasero 0.8.2 on intrepid:

the integrity did not run, because imediately after burning the disc
brasero failed with: cannot mount, maximum retries reached. it did not
try to eject the tray after burning. brasero-debug1.txt attached

also, running a manual check, it was not able to verify the disc, it said
operation not supported.
I had to select a checksum file (the file created on the disc) and there it
failed again (there are some corrupted file on the disc). Of course there are
no corrupted files. I guess the problem here is that it made a checksum of the
image, instead of checksum of each file... brasero-debug2.txt attached

we are approaching deadline and this brasero is a shame, sorry to say. I
wouldn't like to use k3b (I try to use Gnome only) but while I was using
it, it was perfect, I was not able to report a bug. Venting off, thanks
:)

Could we somehow raise the visibility of this bug? It has a low
importance? Aren't people hit it? Maybe they don't burn DVDs...

[Bug 8629] Re: Evolution setup wizard does not fit in 800x600

2008-09-20 Thread Goldenear
Evolution setup assistant windows is too large... It should really fit to a
800x600 screen (or 1024x600 as it's a common size on netbooks). The upcoming
ubuntu 8.10 is said to be well suited for netbooks, so this problem should be
fixed (and it's not today)...
Ubuntu/Gnome guidelines may specify that any application must work with a
800x600 screen or more (and even 640x480 if possible).. the only exception may
be for CAD or specific applications that really need a highter resolution.

[Bug 223912] Re: Nautilus freezes when opening some directories

2008-09-20 Thread Sean
Nope.

.config/user-dirs.dir:
XDG_DESKTOP_DIR=$HOME/Desktop
XDG_DOWNLOAD_DIR=$HOME/Desktop
XDG_TEMPLATES_DIR=$HOME/Templates
XDG_PUBLICSHARE_DIR=$HOME/Public
XDG_DOCUMENTS_DIR=$HOME/Documents
XDG_MUSIC_DIR=$HOME/
XDG_PICTURES_DIR=$HOME/
XDG_VIDEOS_DIR=$HOME/Videos

And the bug doesn't happen in $HOME. I don't understand the code well
enough to figure out why the icons are being scaled ... it's making 16
pixel icons for something. From the parent directory of the directory I
changed to (or the directory I'm changing away from, same thing). I
don't see those icons anywhere. Also, it doesn't happen if I run
nautilus My Pictures/2001 Pawnee, while it would happen if I navigated
to that directory. It seems that the generating of thumbnails is an
unintended side-effect of something.

Re: [Bug 74670] Re: GNOME Clock has duplicate 0x20's on single-figure dates

2008-09-20 Thread Alexander Jones
Still an issue. In general, date and time strings are generated all
over GNOME with simple gettext tokens. I don't see this going away
until we add stuff to GLib.

The band-aid solution for Clock Applet is to collapse multiple spaces
into 1 space, as there is no strftime token that prints the
day-of-month without padding.

[Bug 272510] [NEW] gnome panel crashes and no way to restart it without console

2008-09-20 Thread IsTI37
Public bug reported:

The problem persisted when my gnome panel hanged up when I tryed to set
the lower panel to hide itself and I could not restart it without
console and without restarting X.

Firstly I tried to press Alt+f2 to kill gnome panells and I discovered
that it's related to gnome panels because it not worked.

After that I pressed Alt+F1 to enter a console and I logged in. After I
wrote in killall gnome-panel, X hanged up (restarted) when I entered
back to 7.

X has restarted after I gave the 'shutdown 0' command in 1...

Don't ask why I didn't wanted to restart X. Just I don't wanted.
But it's a little problem which should be fixed. Why gnome panels are crashing
and there is no button to restart it ?

My suggestion is to add a refresh command to desktop like in windows. Or
somewhere else. But please add a refresh command to get gnome-panels
back.

Thanks very much, I hope that in ubuntu 8.10 a refresh command will be
included to restart gnome-panels.

[Bug 272510] Re: gnome panel crashes and no way to restart it without console

2008-09-20 Thread Chris Coulson
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please answer these questions:

* Is this reproducible?
* If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?
* What applets have you added to the panel?

Also, please attach your ~/.xsession-errors file after this problem
occurs (don't log out before attaching it, otherwise it won't contain
anything useful).

FYI. gnome-panel is respawned automatically by gnome-session if it
crashes or you terminate it.

This will help us to find and resolve the problem.

Subject: [Bug 272309] Re: in ubuntu 8.04.1 while in Terminal i can't change
directory with cd

Please file separate bugs for your sound issue and your gnome-terminal
issue, thanks.

2A That's right

2B The following all move to the user's home directory, which is where you're
starting, so of course nothing changes:
cd
cd ~
This should return an error:
cd~
This should simply tell you your home directory is a directory:
~
This should change the last character before $ from ~ to /:
cd /
This should only work if you have a directory named home inside the current
directory:
cd home
This should only work if /home/doc exists:

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and help make Ubuntu
better. However, what you describe is not a bug, as the files exported
to /proc and /sys by the kernel are not real text files, and therefore
are not viewable in a text editor.

Interesting, alsamixer can't mute/unmute PCM, but it can mute/unmute

Please look attached screenshot: Master and LFE have a square with 00,
which turns to MM when muted (like IEC958). PCM doesn't have this
square, and pressing m to change muted state has no effect in this

[Bug 269518] [NEW] wish: provide a way to disable logging in ~/.recently-used and ~/.recently-used.xbel

2008-09-20 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Every action taken is logged in ~/.recently-used and ~/.recently-used.xbel.
It should be fine to provide a way to disable this (useless?) logging.

Even if you change the perms, change the owner... it is reinitialized.
The only way to avoid logging for the moment is to remove the files, and
create folders with those names instead (which gives some errors message
when it wants to log something).

[Bug 251669] Re: totem no longer able to play m3u playlists

2008-09-20 Thread Fabien Tassin
This is not the right fix.

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=551610 is about fixing the
code *writing* m3u to add the missing #EXTM3U header. So this is not
about *reading* m3u. And worse, this is the wrong bug as EXTM3U is about
Extended M3U playlists, while here, this is about simple M3U playlists.

[Bug 272571] [NEW] Error generated when compressing base directory with plus sign in filename

2008-09-20 Thread BigBoy_PDB
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: file-roller

Version: GNOME file-roller 2.22.3

Steps to reproduce:

* Right click on a folder which contains the '+' character in the name
* Select Create Archive
* Change the archive type to .tar
* Click Create
* Popup window appears stating An error occurred while adding files to the
archive
* The Command line output button displays the following information:
tar: a+/B: Cannot stat: No such file or directory
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

Additional comments:

* This only happens with tar (ie. .tar, .tar.gz, .tar.bzip, etc.) archives
* Compressing the folder from the command line using 'tar' does not generate
any errors
* The contents of the folder were added to the archive (for the few cases that
I checked where I used diff to compare the files)
* Does not happen when compressing a file containing a '+' character (ie. the
file +.txt is tarred)
* Does not happen when the base folder contains no '+' character but a
subfolder contains the '+' character (ie. the folder dir is tarred and it
contains the subfolder a+)

** Affects: file-roller (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 272584] [NEW] No colour conversion when image does not have embedded ICC profile

2008-09-20 Thread Milan Knizek
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Hardy amd64, eog 2.22.3-0ubuntu2

Eye of Gnome correctly displays colours of images, which have embedded
ICC profile. Other images are displayed without any colour conversion to
the colour space of the monitor (as defined by tools like xcalib, xicc).

Correct behaviour would be to assign sRGB profile to images without
embedded profile.

(sRGB colour space is de facto standard for PCs and images on the
internet. Mozilla Firefox 3.x does so, too.)
