Same problem also here.

I use a blank screen as my screen saver.

Killing the screen saver from terminal let me get back in my session.

[Bug 278112] Re: Screensaver doesn't start

2008-10-22 Thread Thierry Carrez
For me it fixes the bug from the description : the screen starts to
fade, but then immediately returns to the desktop instead of starting
the screensaver.

(Note that I still have just a blank screen rather than a specific
screensaver if running on battery, but this is not what this bug is
about, and I tend to consider this a feature rather than a bug).

For those who still report failure with xorg-server 2:1.5.2-2ubuntu1
installed, maybe you're experiencing a slightly different bug, that
might warrant a separate bug report. In particular, I know Oliver could
workaround the issue by setting xset -dpms in a terminal window, which I
couldn't.

[Bug 287405] [NEW] gnome-settings-daemon does not work

2008-10-22 Thread gCg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

After todays update gnome-settings-daemon stop working. I can't start it
manually eighter.

I use ubuntu 8.10 beta.

I attached gnome-settings-daemon --no-daemon output ( --debug gives no
output ) and the list of packages updated with the last update.

I think the couse of the problem is
/usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/libgstlibvisual.so and only package updated
today about gstreamer is bluez-gstreamer.

I tried to uninstall bluez-gstreamer , reinstall gstreamer-plugins-base
but no good.

[Bug 287412] [NEW] Impossible to change FLAC Vorbis Tags using Rhythmbox

2008-10-22 Thread Arnaud Dessein
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Hi,

I am updating the tags of almost every files in my music library using
Rythmbox : I right-click on a song or a selection of songs, then
properties and in Basic I change Title, Artist, Album... fields. That
works perfectly for all my MP3 files but NOT for my FLAC files.

When I change the tags of a FLAC file under Rhythmbox, the changes seem
to be saved : on the library the tags are correct and the songs are
sorted in the right Genre, Artist and Album (using the function Browse
to have the 2 or 3 panes like in ITunes). BUT if I close Rythmbox and
restart it, the FLAC files appear with their old tags, the ones I have
tried to modify.

Looking at the files properties into Nautilus shows that the tags are
not modified or SAVED in the file. I have to use EasyTAG 2.1.4 to be
able to change the tags of my FLAC files and that works perfectly.

Then I think it is a bug : the writing/updating of FLAC tags does not
work in Rhythmbox.

Thank you.

[Bug 281217] Re: evolution calendar does not work on a *x600 resolution

2008-10-22 Thread TheGurke
Yes, it happens after I switch to the calendar. Before that everything
works fine.

When I disable compiz, the window no loger moves on every click, but it
is still larger than the screen, so there is stuff missing at the
bottom.

I don't have Intrepid yet, I can tell you about that when it's released.

[Bug 287476] [NEW] Links to gvfs mounts do not use a URI

2008-10-22 Thread Chris Jones
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Links to gvfs mounts point to ~/.gvfs/ rather than a URI. Opening the
links without previously mounting the remote server produces an error
message that the link is broken, and offers to move it to Trash.

Steps to reproduce:

 * Places-Connect to a remote server (I use SFTP)
 * drag a file to your desktop while holding Alt
 * Select Link Here
 * Unmount the remote server (or reboot, etc)
 * Double click on the link

Presumably this could be entirely avoided by having the link point to
the URI equivalent of the ~/.gvfs/ path?

[Bug 241206] Re: On Hardy screen saver never displays

2008-10-22 Thread Scott Minster
I can confirm that this is happening on my Hardy laptop. It didn't used
to happen on Hardy, but now does. The screen saver looks like it's
going to kick in, but then at the last moment it stops and the screen
appears as before. This also prevents power saving (like turning off
the screen). If I lock the screen, the screen saver seems to work
normally, including turning off the screen.

It almost seems like as the screen saver is engaging, it thinks detects
a keypress or mouse movement and thinks it should not screen save. When
I lock the screen, it immediately brings up the password box to unlock
it, as if I had pressed a key or moved the mouse.

[Bug 286794] Re: GStreamer encountered a general resource error. pulsesink.c(539): gst_pulsesink_open (): /GstBin:bin2/GstPulseSink:pulsesink1

2008-10-22 Thread Shirish Agarwal
Hi Charlie,
Thank you for getting back so fast, here's the list of answers.

* Is this reproducible?

Yes, almost every other time.

* Was this Intrepid 8.10 LiveCD or installed?
This is Intrepid installed and updated.

* If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?

I dunno what steps, but this is how it is.

a. Install listen (apt-get or aptitude listen)

b. Installed all the plugins required.

c. pulseaudio is updated and stuff

d. The Pulseaudio applet is running each session

e. Try to play music, mp3 music and it doesn't play

* What is the source of the music? I can not reproduce this using a standard
installation and music cd.

This is .mp3 of MPEG Layer 3 music.

Please lemme know if any more info. is needed.

Oh sorry !

But I have search in Launchpad if the bug was already reported and I
have found anything... Maybe I do not search correctly.

I have seen on the other bug report that the bug will be / is fixed for
Intrepid. Does that mean the bug fix will also be released for Hardy,
which is an LTS version ?

[Bug 287482] [NEW] Sync latest GStreamer packages

2008-10-22 Thread Sebastian Dröge
Public bug reported:

Hi,
we should sync the latest GStreamer packages from Debian/experimental for
Intrepid.

This would be:

  gstreamer0.10 0.10.21-4:
  - Fixes a bug that caused banshee and farsight (and possibly other stuff) to
crash. This is LP #283437
  - Fixes a bug that caused several elements to fail although they shouldn't

  gst-plugins-base0.10 0.10.21-3:
  - Fixes (only) LP bug #282434

  gst-plugins-good0.10 0.10.10.4-1:
  gst-plugins-bad0.10 0.10.8.4-1:
  - Fix a few small regressions over the previous releases (0.10.10 and 0.10.8)
and should be essentially
the same as the coming releases (0.10.11 / 0.10.9) on Friday

2008-10-22 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When I try to open my bookmarks and other folders from the Places menu in the
Ubuntu desktop, nothing happens; Nautilus simply doesn't open. It did work for
a while yesterday, right after I updated Ubuntu to Intrepid Ibex, but it seemed
Nautilus actually ran as root, displaying root's home folder and bookmarks.
When I run Nautilus from a terminal, it works fine. I don't know how to produce
any debug information since the problem only occurs when running Nautilus from
the Places menu.

Using Ubuntu 8.10 (swedish; sv_SE), Nautilus 1:2.24.1-0ubuntu1.

[Bug 287497] [NEW] print: page ordering does not work

2008-10-22 Thread Nicolò Chieffo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

evince 2.24.1-0ubuntu1

I have a landscape pdf (that I will attach) and I want to print it 4
pages per sheet in a landscape sheet

with normal settings left to right, top to bottom I get a page like this:
1 2
3 4

which of course is not what I'm looking for, because it's a landscape page and
when I turn it -90° it becomes
24
13

So I change the page ordering to right to left, top to bottom but I
obtain exactly the same output.

The page ordering feature does not do anything :(

[Bug 287082] Re: Cannot go back to higher resolution after setting virtual resolution

2008-10-22 Thread Martin Soto
Yesterday, after reporting, I noticed that the 2305x1024 virtual
resolution should be enough for setting 1280x1024. Today I tested again
with the same laptop and projector and noticed that xorg.conf looks
different:

SubSection Display
Virtual 2640 768
EndSubSection

I must have copied from the wrong xorg.conf backup. So now it's clear
why the 1280x1024 resolution wasn't offered anymore. I'm attaching the
complete xorg.conf file, just in case that helps.

[Bug 287476] Re: Links to gvfs mounts do not use a URI

2008-10-22 Thread Chris Coulson
I could be wrong, but I don't think that would be possible (certainly
not very easy to do). The problem is, symbolic links are a feature of
the filesystem in the kernel. Because of this, they are not aware of
(and cannot link to) gvfs URI's.

Like I said though, I could be wrong. I'll let someone more knowledgable
than myself comment ;)

[Bug 287523] [NEW] [wishlist] login and gdm - should increase the waiting time with every bad login with a message

2008-10-22 Thread Savvas Radević
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Ubuntu intrepid ibex 8.10 beta (updated)

$ apt-cache policy gdm login
gdm:
  Installed: 2.20.8-0ubuntu3
  Candidate: 2.20.8-0ubuntu3
  Version table:
 *** 2.20.8-0ubuntu3 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com intrepid/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
login:
  Installed: 1:4.1.1-1ubuntu1
  Candidate: 1:4.1.1-1ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 1:4.1.1-1ubuntu1 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com intrepid/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

As it is, the gdm (and login) wait a standard amount of several (5?) seconds
after each bad login.
My suggestion is to set an increasing wait of (n*2) seconds after each bad
login. For example:
- Login attempt #1: wait 2 seconds
- Login attempt #2: wait 4 seconds
- Login attempt #3: wait 6 seconds
- Login attempt #4: wait 8 seconds
- Login attempt #5: wait 10 seconds

This could be considered to increase security for brute force attacks and limit
the attempts until the users logs in and notices the bad attempts performed.
Meanwhile, you could consider printing a message Please wait... or
Authenticating... until the waiting period is over.

Note: this wishlist was formed from
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=5997493

[Bug 287476] Re: Links to gvfs mounts do not use a URI

2008-10-22 Thread A. Walton
Well it's a symlink to a FUSE-mounted location, so technically it is an
invalid link when you tried to click it. But I agree that this behavior
is probably not what the user is expecting, and such a case is probably
where a Desktop Entry link file is better than a symlink. Confirming the
bug with the supplied instructions.

I reported this in GNOME Bugzilla

remains unanswered. Also, the watched Bugzilla bug 553166 seems to be
related, but is not about the same problem.

[Bug 287405] Re: gnome-settings-daemon does not work

2008-10-22 Thread weezerle
I've got the same problem here.
I also moved the /usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/libgstlibvisual.so so everything seems
to work fine right now.
But I'm a noob and I don't know for what the libgstlibvisual.so would be
needed, so i would like to get the file back to its previous location when the
bug is solved.

[Bug 279800] Re: GStreamer update (7-Oct-2008, Intrepid) causes Banshee crash

2008-10-22 Thread Casey Greene
I have the same bug -- since there seems to be a fix I've nominated it
for release. I hope that will bring it to attention so that it can be
fixed before intrepid's release. It makes the release look poor since
banshee is likely widely used.

Thanks, and I hope this was not an incorrect course of action!
