[Bug 303637] [NEW] Ability to kill gnome-screensaver makes it easy to defeat the lock screen dialog
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver By going to any of the ttys it is possible to terminate gnome- screensaver and gain access to the machine. Although ttys themselves are protected with passwords, these can be left unlocked accidentally, and running killall gnome-screensaver we can get rid of the dialog and gain full access to the computer. [Bug 230163] Re: gnome-sudoku should be removed from ubuntu repos
gnome-sudoku does not exist in the latest releases of Ubuntu. The only reference to gnome-sudoku is that gnome-games provides gnome-sudoku. There is no package called gnome-sudoku. Please check the Ubuntu repositories to see that this is the case. The issue only seems to be occuring on KDE systems, which suggests it is caused by a missing dependency that is otherwise included on GNOME systems. This is why I've asked if someone experiencing the problem can check if python-glade2 is installed, and if installing it fixes the problem. I have changed the sourcepackage back to gnome-games as I have previously checked this with Sebastien Bacher. [Bug 111893] Re: Panel items lose their order when panel is not expanded
I also see this problem with Ubuntu 8.10 intrepid (amd64), gnome-panel 2.24.1. I've tried locking and unlocking every way I can think of but still the placement and order shifts around. For me is it is particularly the notification area applet (2.24.1) that shifts around. Most other things seems to stay in place. Perhaps it is problematic as it is the only element that changes size? I notice it strikes in particular when the screen size changes - which makes sense I guess. It seems there is no sense of 'right-aligned' and no space-filling elements you can insert. [Bug 303684] [NEW] `ctrl key position' not restored
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-applets i am using a usb keyboard with my computer, where i am mapping the capslock to control via the gnome keyboard preferences, by setting the `ctrl key position' entry to `make capslock an additional ctrl'. this works fine until i unplug the keyboard and plug it in again. the keyboard works fine again, but the caps mapping has been lost. in order to restore the intended behavior, i need to select `ctrl key position' `default' and switch back to `make capslock an additional ctrl'. it would be nicer, if this mapping is restored automatically, when plugging in the keyboard. [Bug 36189] Re: Applets do not scale well with changing resolution
I have a similar attachment as shown in the attached screenshot. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=996553 Basically, I've increased the resolution via the Preferences menu applet, and my top and bottom panes weren't scaling across the screen. I've somehow managed to get the bottom panel working correctly, but trying to reproduce that result with the top panel isn't working. I've also noticed that the Lock Screen password box isn't centered on the screen. It is centered on the old resolution. Same goes for any Administrative Tasks box that comes up. The entire screen doesn't gray out, just the old resolution. My login window is also the old resolution as well. ** Attachment added: Screenshot.png http://launchpadlibrarian.net/20073276/Screenshot.png -- Applets do not scale well with changing resolution https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/36189 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Could you tell us what applications you're seeing this bug with? I've been investigating this, but I've not been able to reproduce it. Harrison: you say it's unpredictable. How often do you see it? Could you try to find some determinations to it (applications, folders...)? hackel: do you get this everytime and with every application? traxxas: from a recent change in the code, the window is resized *after* being shown, thus it's not centered. The cause of that is easy to detect, I'm trying to see what we can do. But the link with the bug is not clear to me. Could you all give more precise information? [Bug 75324] Re: Gnome file chooser/selector is way to small
The screenshot I posted was from the Sound Preferences, when choosing a custom sound. This is only happening under Compiz, it works fine under Metacity. The behaviour seems consistent. I also get the problem with Firefox, but not consistently. The dialogue always opens small but sometimes it doesn't resize. I can't figure out what is triggering this at all. The first few times I brought up the open file dialogue, it was small, but now it is resizing it every time. So far I have only seen it with the Open File dialogue, not Save File. I will post any other instances where I notice it. I think the real problem is the resizing--is this really necessary?
