[Bug 302637] Re: the On this computer account does not stay minimized in account tree
Pedro: AFAIK the bug on GNOME's bugzilla is not the same at all. The present report deals with a bug that appeared with the last SRU in Intrepid (evolution 2.24.1.1-0ubuntu1 to 2.24.2-0ubuntu1), while the remote one is from 2004 and is in calendar. At least this is how it appeared for me. See [1] for the changelog. What I can notice is that now (i.e. after the update to 2.24.2-0ubuntu1), at startup the folder that was selected when Evo was closed is shown. But it's entry in the tree is not highlighted if this folder is on an IMAP account. Even stranger, if I select 'Drafts' on IMAP before exiting, at startup the 'Drafts' folder in 'On this computer' is shown (and highlighted). So a real mess has been recently introduced! This is not a terrible problem, but still it is annoying, especially coming from a SRU... 1: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/intrepid/+source/evolution/2.24.2-0ubuntu1 ** Changed in: evolution Importance: Unknown = Undecided Bugwatch: GNOME Bug Tracker #253279 = None Status: Confirmed = New -- the On this computer account does not stay minimized in account tree https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/302637 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. I ran into this same problem on 2 machines I updated today. I also ran into the 177 vs 173 problem. Downgrading to 173 fixed the second screen desktop. I run independent screens like most people writing here. When I use an application launcher in the gnome panel to launch something the gnome-panel becomes non-responsive and consumes 100% of one cpu. 'killall'ing it brings up another gnome-panel which works so long as I do not launch something from the screen 1 gnome-panel. I can launch things from the gnome menu successfully, but launching from an custom application launcher causes the lockup. -- two xscreens - gnome panel crashes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/278261 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 35876] Re: 'Downloading package information' and 'building dependency tree' progress dialogs steal focus
This problem still exists in Hardy. Because of it, a kernel update got hosed up. I fired off update-manager and switched to working on something else. While I was typing, a window popped up asking whether I wanted to change /boot/grub/menu.lst. The timing was such that I hit the spacebar just when the window popped up, so the window instantly disappeared, the updated kernel was installed, but the grub menu doesn't have an item for the new kernel. Without intervention on my part, this machine would end up keeping the old kernel until the next time the kernel was updated. Fortunately, I know what happened and I know how to update the grub menu. However, my customers don't know about what's happening under the hood, and they shouldn't have to. I'm astounded at how long this has been a problem. As mentioned by others, this should be a trivial fix. WTF? [Bug 304477] [NEW] Ctrl-L is a poor keybinding for Clear
Public bug reported: The Ctrl-L keybinding to clear the conversation history in empathy is horribly annoying. At this point, most applications (most notably nautilus and gedit, but many others as well) have followed the lead of Firefox to use Ctrl-L to present a Go to location UI. It is remarkably annoying when you press Ctrl-L expecting this and yet your current conversation is cleared due to empathy accidentally still having focus. Moreover, L is on the home-row of most keyboard layouts, thereby making it extremely easy to hit accidentally. I have hit Ctrl-L accidentally countless times both out of finger- fatigue and just carelessness. This requires me to interrupt my thought, go up to the menu, open the log window, find the log, restore my previous mental state, and then keep two windows open until I'm finished referring to the conversation history. From a desktop usability standpoint, that's a pretty destructive operation for a home-row keybinding. As a distribution which seeks to meet Apple's standard of overall desktop usability (especially for casual users), issues like these are going to need to be handled on a community-wide level (hence the various projects included on this bug). There are few ways to alienate new users faster than by putting legacy-driver keybindings with little applicability to every-day tasks in easy-to-hit positions. Moreover, in this instance, the legacy argument hardly holds water. While in terminal applications Ctrl-L has historically redrawn the screen to recover from terminal corruption, this doesn't map onto the GUI environment. Having a clear key is certainly understandable, but putting it in a home-row position is just sloppy UI design. ** Affects: empathy Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Affects: empathy (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: pidgin (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: xchat (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #563004 http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=563004 ** Also affects: empathy via http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=563004 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Also affects: pidgin (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: xchat (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Ctrl-L is a poor keybinding for Clear https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/304477 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

You are right Adam. Filling the location name field manually with a name (instaed of using auto-completion) triggers the bug. Thus I set this to condfirmed. Nice work.
