[Bug 302637] Re: the On this computer account does not stay minimized in account tree

2008-12-02 Thread Milan
Pedro: AFAIK the bug on GNOME's bugzilla is not the same at all. The
present report deals with a bug that appeared with the last SRU in
Intrepid (evolution 2.24.1.1-0ubuntu1 to 2.24.2-0ubuntu1), while the
remote one is from 2004 and is in calendar. At least this is how it
appeared for me. See [1] for the changelog.

What I can notice is that now (i.e. after the update to
2.24.2-0ubuntu1), at startup the folder that was selected when Evo was
closed is shown. But it's entry in the tree is not highlighted if this
folder is on an IMAP account. Even stranger, if I select 'Drafts' on
IMAP before exiting, at startup the 'Drafts' folder in 'On this
computer' is shown (and highlighted). So a real mess has been recently
introduced!

This is not a terrible problem, but still it is annoying, especially
coming from a SRU...

2008-12-02 Thread Milan
I've just checked downgrading to 2.24.1-0ubuntu2 (original version in
Intrepid), and I can confirm it solved this bug. Going back to
2.24.2-0ubuntu1 brought the problem again. Since the new version is
still in intrepid-proposed, I suggest it shouldn't enter -updates before
this is fixed.

[Bug 304367] [NEW] Images in PDF do not print correctly using Evince

2008-12-02 Thread Max
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

The images in page 4 and 5 of
http://en.petzl.com/ProduitsServices/GRIGRI_D14601-I.pdf do not print
correctly - some parts of the images are omitted. When viewing figure
3d on screen in evince, the images include climbers and rope, with some
parts highlighted with orange marks. When printing, only the orange
marks appear. With figure 4, there should be a silhouette of two
climbers to the right of the line drawing of a large person. When
printing, the silhoutte part is omitted.

This PDF prints correctly from Foxit Reader on Windows.

I'm using Evince 2.24.1 on an up to date installation of Intrepid.

Page 6 of this document didn't previously print at all and was covered
separately in Bug #181030. This may be related.

[Bug 304401] [NEW] selecting a custom application in media preferences locks up

2008-12-02 Thread axx
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

In the media tab of the preferences, selecting the open with other
application option from the dropdown menu for any of the formats (audio
CD, DVD, etc.) and then choosing the use a custom command and browse
leads to a file browser at /usr/bin that doesn't respond. Even though
the caret stil blinks, no buttons work.

One can not close it through the cancel button or the cross, but closing
the parent window (the add application one) will close it without any
problems.

If one adds the path to the desired application manually
(/usr/bin/rrip_gui in my case), it is accepted and the system then has
the expected behaviour (opening the requested application –Ruby Ripper
in my case– upon inserting audio CDs for instance).

[Bug 286138] Re: podcast codec doesnt work

2008-12-02 Thread toc
When I start to load it via the url mentioned above the program give an
error and wants to load the podcast again. If I load it manually an add
it via simple drag and drop, I am experiencing the following issues.

When I add the podcast to rbox all I can do is to start playing the
podcast. If I want to jump forward or backward it is not possible to
move to a specific time. The program automatically jumps to the marked
tracks inside the podcast. E.g.:

0:00 -- track 1
3:30 -- track 2
7:45 -- track 3

i want to move forward to 2:20 the song start playing at 0:00. If I want
to start at 7:44 it starts playing at 3:30.

Another issue is the wrongly shown covers of each single track which
should be displayed while playing.

[Bug 277372] Re: lenovo x200 incorrect resolution gnome prop. crash SIGSEGV in strcmp()

2008-12-02 Thread Steven Walter
This also happens to me on a Dell Lattitude D630. Ocassionally when I
plug in an external monitor (1600x1200) and activate it in gnome-
settings daemon, I get the wall effect and can only use the subset of
the external monitor covered by the LCD (1440x900). Sometimes the
unreachable area has desktop in it, sometimes only garbage. If I try to
disable the external monitor afterwards, that is when gnome-display-
settings tends to crash (often taking X with it)

[Bug 304426] Re: Crash

2008-12-02 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instuctions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be
dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on
the crash report you wish to submit.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

It seems to me that this bug is a duplicate of bug #272316, if so, it

[Bug 288494] Re: the youtube code needs to be updated

2008-12-02 Thread Koopee
Thanks Rui, it indeed seems to depend on buffering.

I noticed that if I pause the youtube stream for too long, I get Could not
read from resource. error.
I would quess that the server thinks that the connection is interrupted and
breaks the connection.

Anyway, which component handles the buffering? I think I could do
something to enhance it if I knew where to look.

[Bug 278261] Re: two xscreens - gnome panel crashes

2008-12-02 Thread Brian Litzinger
I ran into this same problem on 2 machines I updated today.

I also ran into the 177 vs 173 problem. Downgrading to 173 fixed the second
screen desktop.
I run independent screens like most people writing here.

When I use an application launcher in the gnome panel to launch something the
gnome-panel
becomes non-responsive and consumes 100% of one cpu. 'killall'ing it brings up
another
gnome-panel which works so long as I do not launch something from the screen 1
gnome-panel.

I can launch things from the gnome menu successfully, but launching from an
custom application
launcher causes the lockup.

[Bug 304385] [NEW] crash in account_changed ()

2008-12-02 Thread Daniel Dumitrache
Public bug reported:

I'm using Evolution 2.24.2 and it crashes when I edit one of my two
configured accounts. I had 2 accounts working perfectly fine for a
while, and today I edited one of them. In Sending Email for one of the
accounts (IMAP), I changed the server from mail.example.com to
mail2.example.com:1863, after that I clicked on Check for Supported
Types button and chose GSSAPI (was PLAIN previously). After that I
clicked the OK button and Evolution crashed. I restated Evolution,
changed the settings to the old ones, they were saved, but when I click
OK Evolution still crashes (even if I don't change anything).

are working again, we can reinstall compiz on his system and enjoy the
eye-candy. Is this where I should be watching for updates on the issue,
or is there another bug report I should be following?

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 293548] Re: can't save file in samba share

2008-12-02 Thread Jason
I had the same problem and found a workaround here:
http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9p=59754

Basically, I unmounted the share, I added the nounix option in my
/etc/fstab statement for mounting the smb/cifs share (as shown below),
then remounted.

//192.168.1.2/public /media/samba cifs
nounix,users,guest,uid=youruser

This seems to work for me.

[Bug 35876] Re: 'Downloading package information' and 'building dependency tree' progress dialogs steal focus

2008-12-02 Thread Loye Young
This problem still exists in Hardy. Because of it, a kernel update got
hosed up.

I fired off update-manager and switched to working on something else.
While I was typing, a window popped up asking whether I wanted to change
/boot/grub/menu.lst. The timing was such that I hit the spacebar just
when the window popped up, so the window instantly disappeared, the
updated kernel was installed, but the grub menu doesn't have an item for
the new kernel. Without intervention on my part, this machine would end
up keeping the old kernel until the next time the kernel was updated.

Fortunately, I know what happened and I know how to update the grub
menu. However, my customers don't know about what's happening under the
hood, and they shouldn't have to.

I'm astounded at how long this has been a problem. As mentioned by
others, this should be a trivial fix. WTF?

Happy Trails,

[Bug 304082] Re: Editing location doesn't automatically fill in location name.

2008-12-02 Thread Adam Buchbinder
Martin, I can confirm that if I do what you did, I can't reproduce the
bug. However, if I type in a location name--for instance, My House--
then that name won't be preserved when I go back to the edit dialog. If
the name was auto-filled, then it will be.

Can you reproduce the problem with a manually filled-in name, rather
than an auto-completed one?

And thank you for the attached video; I would never have figured out
what we were doing differently without it.

[Bug 51610] Re: opening from ftp allow only one connection doesn't work

2008-12-02 Thread mad-kow
I've got the same problem here. The webserver hosting my webpage only
provides two connections per ftp user. With this setup it's impossible
to work with the integrated ftp filesystem as it will crash very soon
(exspecially after opening any file in an editor). After this i am not
able to unmount the ftp filesystem any more and the existing connections
are not closed automatically ..

That's a pitty as working with a ftp file system is a very comfortable
way of modifying the content of a webpage. Does somebody know a
workaround for this issue?

Could it be that I was jumping to conclusions? Yesterday I read that the

[Bug 293209] Re: External display - 1440x900 resolution not detected

2008-12-02 Thread Bill
Hi there,
I am having a similar issue when setting twinview in a dual monitor setup.
I have an Nvidia 8400GS card configured with two identical 19 widescreen
monitors, each capable of 1440x900.
When I enable twinview in the NVIDIA X Server Settings application I am not
given the maximum resolution of the second monitor,

I have attached my xorg.conf file however it is all set as the defaults
after I enabled twinview.

The maximum resolution I am offered is: 1360x768

If I alter the metamodes line in the xorg.conf file it disables my
monitor on the next xserver restart.

[Bug 304477] [NEW] Ctrl-L is a poor keybinding for Clear

2008-12-02 Thread Ben Gamari
Public bug reported:

The Ctrl-L keybinding to clear the conversation history in empathy is
horribly annoying. At this point, most applications (most notably
nautilus and gedit, but many others as well) have followed the lead of
Firefox to use Ctrl-L to present a Go to location UI.

It is remarkably annoying when you press Ctrl-L expecting this and yet
your current conversation is cleared due to empathy accidentally still
having focus. Moreover, L is on the home-row of most keyboard layouts,
thereby making it extremely easy to hit accidentally.

I have hit Ctrl-L accidentally countless times both out of finger-
fatigue and just carelessness. This requires me to interrupt my thought,
go up to the menu, open the log window, find the log, restore my
previous mental state, and then keep two windows open until I'm finished
referring to the conversation history. From a desktop usability
standpoint, that's a pretty destructive operation for a home-row
keybinding.

As a distribution which seeks to meet Apple's standard of overall
desktop usability (especially for casual users), issues like these are
going to need to be handled on a community-wide level (hence the various
projects included on this bug). There are few ways to alienate new users
faster than by putting legacy-driver keybindings with little
applicability to every-day tasks in easy-to-hit positions.

Moreover, in this instance, the legacy argument hardly holds water.
While in terminal applications Ctrl-L has historically redrawn the
screen to recover from terminal corruption, this doesn't map onto the
GUI environment. Having a clear key is certainly understandable, but
putting it in a home-row position is just sloppy UI design.
