[Bug 288494] Re: the youtube code needs to be updated
I'm sure Mariusz Kielpinski meant that it's no solution to the 99% of the people who have experienced this problem. That is, the people who have experienced it and did not care enough to go hunting around for a random solution on a bug tracking site. That's not what Linux for human beings means. It actually took me a good 15 minutes to find this; there are many other bugs with ffdemux_swf that have nothing to do with this particular problem (those other bugs refer to codec issues with gstreamer, and several people from the other bugs have been misdirected and have given up because of the confusion). This isn't a simple find by any means. Don't get me wrong, the fix works perfectly, and I thank you for the work you've done, but it's been a month since the fix was made available. We don't blame you for not placing this in hardy-backports; the admins are the ones who should have done this. Pointing out a problem is not whining, even though the problem is fairly small: it's a niche plugin for Totem, after all. I'm under the impression, however, that Ubuntu originally prided itself ideologically on shipping this plugin as the solution to the proprietary evils and such conferred by using Adobe Flash to actually go to YouTube. Touting this as the solution and then leaving it broken is slightly disingenuous, though I'm sure it wasn't done intentionally. [Bug 309966] [NEW] Can't stop gnome-settings-daemon drawing background
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 (x86_64) and gnome-settings-daemon 2.24.0-0ubuntu3.3. I want gnome-settings-daemon to leave my desktop background alone, since I'm running Xfce, not Gnome (I'm using gnome-settings-daemon because I want to use some Gnome applications that don't seem to work properly without it). However, whenever I start it, it immediately takes over the root window. This has been reported previously -- see bug #36669. However, that was closed as invalid when it turned out the reporter still wanted Nautilus to draw desktop icons. I'm not running Nautilus at all, so that doesn't apply. If I correctly understand Sebastian Bacher's comments under the aforementioned #36669, I should be able to tell gnome-settings-daemon to leave my desktop alone using the gconf key /desktop/gnome/background/draw_background. I have set this to false, but it has no visible effect whatsoever: gnome-settings-daemon still insists on taking over the desktop background, as though it's not reading that key at all. ** Affects: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Can't stop gnome-settings-daemon drawing background https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/309966 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 310122] Re: [HARDY 8.04.1] gksu nautilus does not work with blank cd in drive
I have three machines here running Hardy. Computer one (Desk1) gives output seen above. With blank CD R in drive, gksu nautilus did not work. (Third computer (Desk2) also failed with same output as above. So we are up to four computers. Gotta love having the same operating system in the house ;). I can try on a fourth computer here if you want, but right now it is sitting in the basement with Debian installed. But I can re-install Ubuntu on it and try out the command (it's not being used for anything else currently). I would have to say that it is Confirmed ;) Now we just need to triage it. -- [HARDY 8.04.1] gksu nautilus does not work with blank cd in drive https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/310122 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 136702] Re: nautilus 'replace file' dialog box could give more information
I don't use KDE, but I like very much that its file manager (what's it called this week?) has this kind of attention to detail. It impressed me the minute I saw it. Of course users can't make an informed decision without access to relevant information. Perhaps if the concern is the delay required to gather this information, it could be hidden behind a more details toggle (one like that used in the GNOME update manager and others) and only generated on request. -- nautilus 'replace file' dialog box could give more information https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/136702 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 72468] Re: Trash looks empty, isn't
Something else I found which may have some relation to the problem, looking at my system which did not have the problem, I found /usr/share/gnome/default session exists, while the system with the problem lacked this file. There is a man page man default.session but I'm not sure if this file should be necessary or not. In any event I think this needs to be looked into further, but I'm not sure who's attention it should be given to? Although this is/was not a major problem, I think an abundance of problems such as this is what turns many people away from Linux. I've spent several hours a day for a couple of weeks in order to resolve this and have several more problems which are primarily related to the OS installation. Below is the content of /usr/share/gnome/default.session from my system lacking the trash icon problem and sets the session to Gnome without my interaction. # This is the default session that is launched if the user doesn't # already have a session. # The RestartCommand specifies the command to run from the $PATH. # The Priority determines the order in which the commands are started # (with Priority = 0 first) and defaults to 50. # The id provides a name that is unique within this file and passed to the # app as the client id which it must use to register with gnome-session. # The clients must be numbered from 0 to the value of num_clients - 1. [Bug 46846] Re: Emblems get cut when scaled to a zoom = 150% (refresh issue)
I am using Ubuntu 8.10 (intrepid), and the problem still exists. If you click and drag over the icons, the emblems are redrawn. Also you can ctrl-2, ctrl-1 and they are also redrawn. Maybe the actual problem is in the zoom function. I have settled by using 100% zoom.
