[Bug 288494] Re: the youtube code needs to be updated

2008-12-20 Thread evolipel
I'm sure Mariusz Kielpinski meant that it's no solution to the 99% of
the people who have experienced this problem. That is, the people who
have experienced it and did not care enough to go hunting around for a
random solution on a bug tracking site. That's not what Linux for human
beings means.

It actually took me a good 15 minutes to find this; there are many other
bugs with ffdemux_swf that have nothing to do with this particular
problem (those other bugs refer to codec issues with gstreamer, and
several people from the other bugs have been misdirected and have given
up because of the confusion). This isn't a simple find by any means.

Don't get me wrong, the fix works perfectly, and I thank you for the
work you've done, but it's been a month since the fix was made
available. We don't blame you for not placing this in hardy-backports;
the admins are the ones who should have done this. Pointing out a
problem is not whining, even though the problem is fairly small: it's a
niche plugin for Totem, after all. I'm under the impression, however,
that Ubuntu originally prided itself ideologically on shipping this
plugin as the solution to the proprietary evils and such conferred by
using Adobe Flash to actually go to YouTube. Touting this as the
solution and then leaving it broken is slightly disingenuous, though I'm
sure it wasn't done intentionally. Point is, they should keep their 3
-years-support promise and pay attention.

Andrew,
merges from Experimental are OK so you don't have to add also the debian
changes to the debdiff.
Besides, you made some changes without mentioning them.
I've done a proper merge which means I took the Debian sources files and only
added the b-p, changed maintainer and added the changelog entries for you.

Would you mind reporting our changes back to Debian so we can sync next

Same problem on a couple of laptops they were working as expected then
stopped.

Did a fresh install 8.04 then after 100+ updates now not working.

This doesn't just seem to be on critical battery but when it is running on
battery power auto suspend hibernate doesn't work at all.
When ac plugged in works as expected suspending/hibernating after time outs set
in power manager.

Tried 8.1 live and appears to have exactly the same problem
suspends/hibernates on ac but not on battery power.

[Bug 309966] [NEW] Can't stop gnome-settings-daemon drawing background

2008-12-20 Thread Peter Jolly
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 (x86_64) and gnome-settings-daemon
2.24.0-0ubuntu3.3.

I want gnome-settings-daemon to leave my desktop background alone, since
I'm running Xfce, not Gnome (I'm using gnome-settings-daemon because I
want to use some Gnome applications that don't seem to work properly
without it). However, whenever I start it, it immediately takes over
the root window.

This has been reported previously -- see bug #36669. However, that was
closed as invalid when it turned out the reporter still wanted
Nautilus to draw desktop icons. I'm not running Nautilus at all, so
that doesn't apply.

If I correctly understand Sebastian Bacher's comments under the
aforementioned #36669, I should be able to tell gnome-settings-daemon to
leave my desktop alone using the gconf key
/desktop/gnome/background/draw_background. I have set this to false,
but it has no visible effect whatsoever: gnome-settings-daemon still
insists on taking over the desktop background, as though it's not
reading that key at all.

[Bug 72468] Re: Trash looks empty, isn't

2008-12-20 Thread stg
I dont remember what my default client was set to ... But those two
session variables you mentioned where set to default. Now however
they're both set to gnome and the trash works fine. Has for the install,
I didn't go through to normal installation since my install is a dist-
upgrade from gutsy.

[Bug 309990] [NEW] crashes when loading list of audio files

2008-12-20 Thread Alice Raunsbæk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

Using Ubuntu 8.10
Brasero packet version: 0.8.2ubuntu1 (intrepid)

What I expected to happen:
List of audio files finishes to load so I can press burn.

What happened:
A list of audio files were loading and as one of the last files are loaded the
application terminates without warning.

Happens if:
* double-clicking a saved playlist (application starts an begins loading list
of tracks)
* starting application and selecting a recent project (begins loading list of
tracks)
* starting application and opening a project from the browser (begins loading
list of tracks)

Details:
My projects are saved on the desktop.

Result:
Renders the application rather useless as this happens almost every time (I
have no I idea what I did different the one time I had it working!)

[Bug 219371] Re: Image thumbnail not updated on file modification

2008-12-20 Thread Jonathan Ernst
I can reproduce it, but not 100% of the time.

Try to make this :

1) print screen
2) save file as Capture.png
3) right click - open with gimp
4) Draw lines on the picture
5) Close Gimp window and say yes to save the image

The thumbnail is not updated

Sometimes when I do a capture I see the thumbnail of an older capture
that had the same name...

[Bug 285323] Re: Losing keyboard and mouse control when changing screen brightness with fn + arrow under intrepid

2008-12-20 Thread MatB
I have the same issue on a Dell precision M4300. It also happens when not using

As a side note, when the problem happens, i press ctrl-alt-F1 and the screen
flickers to text mode, but very often comes back by itself to graphic mode.

[Bug 306980] Re: Immediate crash after Start of Totem

2008-12-20 Thread Tiefflieger
Totem crashes again in the session I'm currently on. All I did was logon, start
evolution, firefox3 and google-earth.
I don't know if its of any matter, but sometimes (just like right now) my
google-earth is far too slow to use it (aproximatly 1 frame per 3 seconds). So
maybe its really related to my video driver?
(I'm using nvidia v177.82 installed via hardware-drivers on 64 bit Ubuntu)
the only errors in /var/log/Xorg.0.log are the following lines:

(WW) Warning, couldn't open module type1
(II) UnloadModule: type1
(EE) Failed to load module type1 (module does not exist, 0)

everything else seems to work just fine, I appreciate any help on how I
could track down the source of my problem :-)

[Bug 310052] [NEW] no sound from rhythmbox if lbreakout2 is open

2008-12-20 Thread piero_tasso
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

When I open rhythmbox it can't reproduce sounds at all, if I'm running
lbreakout2 (even if I selected sound off in lbreakout2). Rhythmbox
seems to function, but I have no audio and the time-selector does not
move.

The only solution is to close lbreakout2 and rhythmbox. If I open
rhythmbox first and then I open lbreakout2, I have no problems.

I'm using Ubuntu 8.04.1

[Bug 239952] Re: firefox - the associated helper application does not exist

2008-12-20 Thread TJ
*Definitely* an ubuntuforums bug!

As I reported in comment #11 on 2008-09-09, and in email to the server
admins, and via IRC, the server *incorrectly* reports the mime-type for
text documents as plain/text - the correct mime-type for text files is
text/plain:

HTTP/1.x 200 OK

Date: Sat, 20 Dec 2008 21:49:06 GMT

Server: Apache/2.2.8 (Ubuntu) PHP/5.2.4-2ubuntu5.4 with Suhosin-Patch

X-Powered-By: PHP/5.2.4-2ubuntu5.4

content-disposition: attachment; filename*=ISO-8859-1''test3nospace.txt

Content-Length: 9

X-Content-Type-Options: nosniff

X-Permitted-Cross-Domain-Policies: none

Content-Type: plain/text

Also in comment #11 I reported on the allowed attachment types that result in
an unknown/unknown mime-type when the server should really be helpful and give
the correct mime-types.

The question is of course whether the bug is in gdmgreeter code proper
or in some library it uses.

If anybody has some hints how to debug this? (maybe something easier
than building gdmgreeter myself with debug indo and single-stepping
through it)

Had the same bug with my ubuntu 8.04.
Failed starting Hardware Abstraction Layer was resolved by renaming
/etc/rc5.d/S50dbus to /etc/rc5.d/S12dbus .
As a result dbus, hal and gdm started by init in the following order:
/etc/rc5.d/S12dbus
/etc/rc5.d/S24hal
/etc/rc5.d/S30gdm

[Bug 64323] Re: No conversion bad error message with SQLite 2.x database

2008-12-20 Thread cbcalvin
Database is corrupt after migration from Ubuntu 7.4 to 7.8 to 8.4.
Possible solution is export databse content to sql file. Delete
database. Allow f-spot to recreate it. Edit the exported sql file to
remove the creation of the system tables. Apply the remaining sql to
import the content back into the database. This could be done with a
script by a clever person.

[Bug 239952] Re: firefox - the associated helper application does not exist

2008-12-20 Thread Connor Imes
Sorry, based on the bug description I was under the impression that this
bug was strictly a client side problem where UF was used as an example.
Thank you for re-opening against UF, and sorry for the confusion.

Should this report also be opened against Apache (or another server side
piece of software) for providing incorrect MIME types? In that case,
when a fix is released, the forum maintainer will be notified and can
upgrade the software. Or is the configuration fix trivial to do without
a software upgrade?

2008-12-20 Thread Oliver Gerlich
I've seen this too, with vinagre and xvncviewer. Doesn't happen with
krdc, though.

This seems similar to this bug report:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=494059 . Which would explain
the different krdc behavior (because that viewer does not show the
cursor, while vinagre and xvncviewer do).

The above also failed. With blank CD R in drive, gksu nautilus did not work.

(Third computer (Desk2) also failed with same output as above.

So we are up to four computers. Gotta love having the same operating
system in the house ;). I can try on a fourth computer here if you
want, but right now it is sitting in the basement with Debian installed.
But I can re-install Ubuntu on it and try out the command (it's not
being used for anything else currently). I would have to say that it is
Confirmed ;) Now we just need to triage it.

[Bug 136702] Re: nautilus 'replace file' dialog box could give more information

2008-12-20 Thread HughBranes
I don't use KDE, but I like very much that its file manager (what's it
called this week?) has this kind of attention to detail. It impressed me
the minute I saw it. Of course users can't make an informed decision
without access to relevant information.

Perhaps if the concern is the delay required to gather this information,
it could be hidden behind a more details toggle (one like that used in
the GNOME update manager and others) and only generated on request.

[Bug 72468] Re: Trash looks empty, isn't

2008-12-20 Thread apinunt
Something else I found which may have some relation to the problem,
looking at my system which did not have the problem, I found
/usr/share/gnome/default session exists, while the system with the
problem lacked this file. There is a man page man default.session but
I'm not sure if this file should be necessary or not. In any event I
think this needs to be looked into further, but I'm not sure who's
attention it should be given to? Although this is/was not a major
problem, I think an abundance of problems such as this is what turns
many people away from Linux. I've spent several hours a day for a couple
of weeks in order to resolve this and have several more problems which
are primarily related to the OS installation. Below is the content of
/usr/share/gnome/default.session from my system lacking the trash icon

# already have a session.
# The RestartCommand specifies the command to run from the $PATH.
# The Priority determines the order in which the commands are started

# The id provides a name that is unique within this file and passed to the

I am using Ubuntu 8.10 (intrepid), and the problem still exists. If you
click and drag over the icons, the emblems are redrawn. Also you can
ctrl-2, ctrl-1 and they are also redrawn. Maybe the actual problem is
in the zoom function. I have settled by using 100% zoom. Another
annoyance is that you cant set a colored background for any of the side
panels except the information side panel.
