But I could not find the gconfd/saved_state file,
http://linuxgator.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=129 suggested typing

navigating to apps/nautilus/desktop revealed nothing was set.

[Bug 223421] Re: Computer hangs after switch user or lock screen

2008-12-24 Thread Ram Gole
This happens extremely frequently. The screensaver is set to Skyrocket

unlock the screen the machine hangs. The mouse I guess works because
sometimes I have seen the cursor and it moves with the mouse. But

2008-12-24 Thread Waldir Leoncio
I don't want to be a nag, but I've just seen the same bug on an 2920 Acer
Aspire laptop. Here's what I've done:

1. Please don't try to compile from source UNLESS you know what you're
doing, OR you're willing to look for support at the mentioned forum
 thread.

Ok. The user has tried that already, and it didn't work.

 2. If you enable proposed repo, at this time the kernel -11 would be
installed. This kernel ALREADY include the patches needed to make the
webcams affected by this issue work.

Proposed repos enabled and kernel updated. Still no go.

 3. If you're experiencing slowness in cheese you can install the libv4l
0.5.7 package from Loic's PPA while the SRU is being approved.

Installed libv4l-0 version 0.5.7.1~dooz1. I don't know if this is the right
version (if it isn't, please tell me how to install it). Still no go,
anyway.

Chese was working flawlessly in 8.04. What should we do, now?

[Bug 193578] Re: Scrolling Firefox interrupts Rhythmbox audio

2008-12-24 Thread pbhj
I get this same thing with FF and Amarok. I'm running them via Xubuntu
installed over Ubuntu 8.10 on an Athlon 1.1G with 768MB GeForce2 GTS
(ie quite old); though yesterday was using KDE4 and had same problem. I
find that even if I renice FF to 1 (slightly lower than normal priority)
and Amarok to -4 (high priority), using sudo top, even then I get the
sound jumps. I thought it was FF and not X that spikes, but it looks
like it could be a race condition between X and FF - they have about the
same CPU use for me and could well be battling for resources (ie CPU
time). FF and X both spike to 30%+ on scrolling, even with smooth
scrolling off.

I'd have thought there was enough buffering for this not to have effect
but clearly not.

[Bug 311148] [NEW] evolution crashes when editing reply text

2008-12-24 Thread Dmitriy Geels
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I tried to reply to a html message containing table.
When I selected quoted text (for removing), evolution crashed, when selection
touched table.

How to reproduce:
1) get the attachment
2) unpack it to ~/.evolution/mail/local/Inbox.sbd/ -- there may be no Inbox.sbd
directory, in such case create it, or in evolution create subfolder of Inbox,
called 'temp' (then replace it's contents by one from attachment); may be it's
enough to unpack to ~/.evolution/mail/local/ -- i didn't check
3) start evolution, go to temp folder, select message, containing there
4) press reply, then, in edit window start selecting quoted text (my scenario
is: press [↓], then shift, then press [↓] 16 times)

[Bug 309674] Re: python-gobject in hardy-updates on sparc misbuilt only for python2.5

2008-12-24 Thread Martin Pitt
Why do we need both changes? I like Loic's approach in moving the
configure/aclocal.m4 changes to the last patch, since that will fix the
bug without introducing any other changes. I don't particularly like a
re-running of autoconf tools, since I got bitten too often by that. It
would only mean to replace one known trap with a potential new one.

So I recommend (a), and I'd also be fine with (b), but vote against (c)
for this SRU.

Loic, why does your debdiff have a changed config.guess/sub? (They are
inline, not in the 62_autofoo patch)

Thanks!

config.guess and config.sub are updated automatically by debian/rules.
However, for the purposes of building a minimal change, you can avoid

[Bug 295643] Re: eog doesn't apply the page-setup

2008-12-24 Thread Peter Wagner
I do have the same problem, as long i understand it. Under Hardy Heron I
have printed once or so successfully photos, but now the page setup
selection in any application (soNOT ONLY EOG,but also at least
Mozilla and GIMP) resets to generic printer (I don't know the exact
English term, but it's the same in Achim's image), ignoring my previous
choice (a hp photosmart all-in-one) and resizing the picture during
every choice of the page setup to smaller and smaller parameters. The
printing output is also smaller and smaller unless i restart the
computer.

I have also reinstalled the most actual hplip (2.8.12), and it won't
work either when hplip is quitted.

[Bug 311093] Re: totem movie player or anything that is playing movie files on hard drive is flashing back and forth

2008-12-24 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems.
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 311080] [NEW] IMAP does not function in Evolution

2008-12-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Just recently I upgraded 8.04 to 8.10 and ever since was not able to establish
IMAP connection with my Gmail account. I do have all the parameters entered
correctly for both imap and smtp but Evolution simply will not connect. I tried
IMAP subscription manager but there is only my e-mail address there in place
for the name of server.
Needles to say this feature worked fine under 8.04.

Hello,
thank you for your quick return.
here is the pdf (now you know what i have to do in january...)

I don't have the possibility to print it with another printer.
two remarks :
1. when i print it with the GIMP, it prints all right !!
2. when i try to export it to M$ Windows2000 (ntfs) it provokes a system
crash, nasty blue screen etc, either when i try to open it or when i try
to print it. weird, no ? maybe the ntfs-3g is bugging ??

thank you and joeux Noël

[Bug 311205] [NEW] Nautilus won't remember password for sftp

2008-12-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

The problem is similar to the bug presented in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/67189 except that it concerns sftp.

When going to an sftp address from Nautilus (I have a link in my Places
folder), a gnome-panel window appears asking me to enter username and
password. Though I am given the ability to remember the password forever
(or until logout or not at all) and choose this option, the next time I
try to open the sftp address again (after for example a reboot), I have
to enter the login info.

Of course, the password (and username) should be remembered when I ask
of it.

Re: [Bug 34813] Re: gedit fails to save files over smbfs/cifs

2008-12-24 Thread cwillu
@Robie

Iirc, the gio pathway is unrelated to this bug: an sshfs mount is a
'local' mount (which is the root of the problem). Saving files to
gnome sftp:// and smb:// file urls works fine (which is why some of us
users stopped caring about this bug years ago :p).

If that's correct, then it's completely appropriate to not treat gio
urls differently, to do otherwise would just introduce a bug in _that_
system.

On Wed, Dec 24, 2008 at 9:38 AM, Robie Basak rb-os...@justgohome.co.uk wrote:
Unable to reproduce with gedit 2.24.2-0ubuntu1 and sshfs to an rsync.net
account. Saving seems to work fine, regardless of whether the backup
before saving option is selected or not.

The fix that Brent mentions appears to be for a previous version of
gedit from comment #5 in the gnome bug, which modifies how files are
saved. gedit 2.42 has two mechanisms to save files - local and gio (ie.
sshfs/cifs) - presumably to address this issue - so that patch will no
longer work (it would apply to local saves, not remote saves).

I want to be able to place any, I repeat any application like

So that's kind of like a different form of minimization, then? Not
really the same as the applet/notification area icon functionality. I
don't think that's related to this bug.

At first '/home/$USER# gedit /etc/apt/sources.list' and '~$ sudo gedit

How is the bug report invalid? The dictionary selection worked fine
under 8.04, the same selection after an upgrade to 8.10 doesn't work.
We've established that changing the dictionary does fix it. However,
the dictionary necessary to fix it (en-us) isn't directly selectable in
at least one of the effected applications (gajim).

[Bug 230273] Re: (very) strange fix for slow change directory performance some people experience (could help find a fix?)

2008-12-24 Thread trevor t
On Intrepid I also experience Nautilus not responding, with one CPU
(2.4GHz Quad) at 100% for several minutes.

I suspect it is enumerating and caching every item in every subfolder,
because the time varies. E.g. /usr takes a looong time, while Documents
doesn't.

I don't really need to know how many items are in every single folder,
Maybe that could be made an option; tradeoff detail for speed.

[Bug 238179] Re: Scrolling in CompactView doesn't work

2008-12-24 Thread Artem Titov
Copy the patch to the directory with source code. Go to this directory and run
the command:
patch -p1 -i diff
See instructions for assembling nautilus in file INSTALL.

Example:
$ wget
http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/gnome/sources/nautilus/2.24/nautilus-2.24.2.tar.bz2
$ wget http://launchpadlibrarian.net/20621636/diff
$ tar -xvjf nautilus-2.24.2.tar.bz2
$ cp diff nautilus-2.24.2
$ cd nautilus-2.24.2
$ patch -p1 -i diff
$ ./configure --prefix=/usr
$ make
$ sudo make install
Restart Nautilus

[Bug 311057] Re: Add to Panel - Menu bar just reproduces Main menu

2008-12-24 Thread Paul Whipp
OK, I need to find out why that is broken on my system but the Menu Bar
option behaviour is the main issue. Is that working as intended/expected
on your system?

[Bug 311288] [NEW] eog shows pictures in a wrong order after saving

2008-12-24 Thread Boombofer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eog

Ubuntu 8.10

eog:
  Installiert: 2.24.1-0ubuntu1
  Kandidat: 2.24.1-0ubuntu1
  Versions-Tabelle:
 *** 2.24.1-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com intrepid/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

The following leads to misbehaviour:
1. Go to a folder with many .jpg-pictures
2. Look at them with eog
3. Save one over File Save As (I don't know if this is correct, I use the
German version) in an other directory
4. Go through the pictures with the next-button

Misbehaviour:
Example:
- There are ten pictures 01.jpg - 10.jpg in the directory
- You save 03.jpg as test.jpg in an other directory
- When going through the pictures with the next-button the order is:
test.jpg - 04.jpg - test.jpg - 05.jpg - test.jpg - 06.jpg - test.jpg - 07.jpg -
...

Expected behavior:
- When going through the pictures with the next-button the order is:
test.jpg - 04.jpg - 05.jpg - 06.jpg - 07.jpg - ...

[Bug 311296] [NEW] rhytmbox doesn't drag drop ogg files to portable digital audio device

2008-12-24 Thread marco.pallotta
Public bug reported:

Rhythmbox seems that doesn't drag drop ogg files to my portable digital audio
device (MAJESTIC PDR 130MP3/2G) that correctly supports ogg files (in fact
audio files are correctly played from audio device if the music is transferred
to it via nautilus).
If I launch rhythmbox with -d debug option I see, when I try to transfer ogg
files to the device from rhythmbox:
(01:36:37) [0x6aa500] [impl_paste] rb-removable-media-source.c:328: failed to
find acceptable mime type for
file:///home/marco/Musica/Christmas%20Songs/06%20-%20do%20they%20know%20it%20is%20christmas.ogg
In shorts it seems that rhythmbox doesn't find acceptable mime type for the ogg
file.
I also tryed to convert to ogg an mp3 file that correctly is transferred via
rhythmbox but with no success.
I think that the problem is related to ogg type.

My system is Hardy Heron x86_64 and rhythmbox is version 0.11.5-0ubuntu

Actually, it only does not work when lowering nice value. When raising, it
works ok.
There is already a bug report about that, marked this as a duplicate.
