Re: [Bug 290506] Re: cheese malfunctioning with UVCVIDEO webcams (was cheese doesn't show v4l2 video output and disables output on gstreamer-based apps ran afterwards)
I don't want to be a nag, but I've just seen the same bug on an 2920 Acer Aspire laptop. Here's what I've done: 1. Please don't try to compile from source UNLESS you know what you're doing, OR you're willing to look for support at the mentioned forum thread. Ok. The user has tried that already, and it didn't work. 2. If you enable proposed repo, at this time the kernel -11 would be installed. This kernel ALREADY include the patches needed to make the webcams affected by this issue work. Proposed repos enabled and kernel updated. Still no go. 3. If you're experiencing slowness in cheese you can install the libv4l 0.5.7 package from Loic's PPA while the SRU is being approved. Installed libv4l-0 version 0.5.7.1~dooz1. I don't know if this is the right version (if it isn't, please tell me how to install it). Still no go, anyway. Chese was working flawlessly in 8.04. [Bug 193578] Re: Scrolling Firefox interrupts Rhythmbox audio
I get this same thing with FF and Amarok. I'm running them via Xubuntu installed over Ubuntu 8.10 on an Athlon 1.1G with 768MB GeForce2 GTS (ie quite old); though yesterday was using KDE4 and had same problem. I find that even if I renice FF to 1 (slightly lower than normal priority) and Amarok to -4 (high priority), using sudo top, even then I get the sound jumps. I thought it was FF and not X that spikes, but it looks like it could be a race condition between X and FF - they have about the same CPU use for me and could well be battling for resources (ie CPU time). FF and X both spike to 30%+ on scrolling, even with smooth scrolling off. [Bug 309674] Re: python-gobject in hardy-updates on sparc misbuilt only for python2.5
Why do we need both changes? I like Loic's approach in moving the configure/aclocal.m4 changes to the last patch, since that will fix the bug without introducing any other changes. I don't particularly like a re-running of autoconf tools, since I got bitten too often by that. It would only mean to replace one known trap with a potential new one. So I recommend (a), and I'd also be fine with (b), but vote against (c) for this SRU. Loic, why does your debdiff have a changed config.guess/sub? Re: [Bug 34813] Re: gedit fails to save files over smbfs/cifs
@Robie Iirc, the gio pathway is unrelated to this bug: an sshfs mount is a 'local' mount (which is the root of the problem). Saving files to gnome sftp:// and smb:// file urls works fine (which is why some of us users stopped caring about this bug years ago :p). If that's correct, then it's completely appropriate to not treat gio urls differently, to do otherwise would just introduce a bug in _that_ system. On Wed, Dec 24, 2008 at 9:38 AM, Robie Basak rb-os...@justgohome.co.uk wrote: Unable to reproduce with gedit 2.24.2-0ubuntu1 and sshfs to an rsync.net account. Saving seems to work fine, regardless of whether the backup before saving option is selected or not. The fix that Brent mentions appears to be for a previous version of gedit from comment #5 in the gnome bug, which modifies how files are saved. gedit 2.42 has two mechanisms to save files - local and gio (ie. sshfs/cifs) - presumably to address this issue - so that patch will no longer work (it would apply to local saves, not remote saves). -- gedit fails to save files over smbfs/cifs https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/34813 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 230273] Re: (very) strange fix for slow change directory performance some people experience (could help find a fix?)
On Intrepid I also experience Nautilus not responding, with one CPU (2.4GHz Quad) at 100% for several minutes. I suspect it is enumerating and caching every item in every subfolder, because the time varies. E.g. /usr takes a looong time, while Documents doesn't. I don't really need to know how many items are in every single folder, Maybe that could be made an option; tradeoff detail for speed. -- (very) strange fix for slow change directory performance some people experience (could help find a fix?) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/230273 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
