[Bug 190848] Re: font in terminal does not resemble font in preview

2008-12-31 Thread Kokoa
Karl, I don't have ~/.fonts.conf and I removed 53-monospace-...conf and
all 10-* links. Still same problem. This also affect emacs-snapshot-gtk
(version 23) with Emacs.font: Monospace-10 set in .Xresources. The
Monospace-10 font in Emacs-snapshot and in Gnome-terminal looks like
those in the 'fonts.png' screenshot.

$ ls ~/.fonts.conf
ls: cannot access /home/fj/.fonts.conf: No such file or directory
$ echo ~/.font*
/home/fj/.fontconfig /home/fj/.fonts

Only difference I made to my fresh Ubuntu 8.10 system regarding fonts is
that I added some Korean fonts to ~/.fonts , and installed xfonts-
terminus and texlive-fonts-extra package, and removed 10-* links and 53
-monospace-lcd-filter.conf.

Maybe there are other files that need to be removed?

[Bug 312667] [NEW] Help for Evolution is broken

2008-12-31 Thread Baruch
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

When I click on the Help Contents menu option, I am presented with a
dialog box telling me:

Could not display help for this application.

There was an error launching the default action command associated with
this location.

This is a fresh install of Ubuntu Hardy Heron (8.04)

Evolution version 2.22.3.1

I expected the help system to activate.

Instead, I got a cryptic and completely useless error message that
offered absolutely no clue how to fix this or what might have gone
wrong.

I see that a similar bug was reported and supposedly fixed back in 2005,
but apparently it has once more reared its offensive head.

[Bug 312658] [NEW] Cancelling Copy Disc ... leaves DVD unmounted

2008-12-31 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

(I was about to report this against cdrkit but I guess not.)

Steps to repro:

1. Insert a DVD movie disk, observe its icon on the desktop
2. Right-click on the icon, select Copy Disc ...
3. Hit Cancel

Expected result:

DVD icon should remain on desktop

Actual result:

Poof, it's gone

It's apparently unmounted already after 2 in the repro steps.

As a workaround, you can obviously eject the disk and push it back in to
get it back, but it's an annoyance.

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 8.10
Release:8.10

$ apt-cache policy cdrkit
W: Unable to locate package cdrkit

Hmm, maybe I should find another package after all?

[Bug 202089] Re: Pulseaudio is blocking normal sound after resume

2008-12-31 Thread zorblek
I, too have been experiencing this bug with Ubuntu Intrepid.
Jsteinhart's fix appears to partially fix the problem. Before installing
the fix, when I attempted to play a flash video after a suspend cycle it
would play for a few seconds then stop, with no sound. When I switched
over to a console and back, the video would then resume and sounds would
play as normal.

Now that I have installed the fix, flash videos don't stop after a few
seconds. They continue to play, but I still don't get any sound from
them (or anything else). When I switch back from a console, the video
will pause in the middle of playback while all of the audio that i
missed plays, then it will resume from where I left off.

In any event, I still don't get any other sounds (with or without the
fix) until I switch to and from a console.

If there's any more useful information I can give you, let me know.

[Bug 312687] [NEW] application/postscript mimetype is mistaken for another mimetype by document viewer or okular

2008-12-31 Thread michael mestre
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 8.10 (upgraded from a correctly functioning 8.04), when trying
to open a .ps file from Nautilus (or the command line) with Evince or
Okular, I get the following error :

(with Evince) :
Filetype matlab script/function is not supported (text/x-matlab) is not
supported

and it fails to open the file.

When commenting out the matlab entry in the freedesktop xml file in
/usr/share/mime , the same error appears but with a tex mimetype instead
of the matlab mimetype.

I checked thoroughly all the entries related to matlab and postscript in
/usr/share/mime , and everything seems to be in order. I also
regenerated the mimetype with the command ''update-mime-database
/usr/share/mime'' several times, to no avail.

Attached is a screenshot showing the error in Evince, as well as the
file properties from Nautilus (demonstrating that the mimetype
associated with .ps files is correct outside of Evince)

[Bug 312692] [NEW] Launching gnome-terminal on start up, no title bar appears

2008-12-31 Thread lupv
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

When I set gnome-terminal to launch on start-up via Sessions Preferences
in the System menu of Ubuntu 8.04 gnome-terminal appears in the top-
right corner of the desktop without the title bar which normally
appears. The title bar has a Window Menu that pops up when you click on
the Terminal icon on the left and with minimize, unmaximize, and close
window buttons on the right. The gnome-terminal cannot be moved when it
appears without the title bar.

The title bar always appears when I manually launch gnome-terminal after
start up. The problem has only appeared when I set it to launch on
start-up in Session Preferences.

I would also appreciate also if someone could tell me another way to set
it to launch on start-up i.e. which file to modify, rather than going
through Session Preferences.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu

enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems.
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

to change the settings because the flashing obscures the menu drop-downs.
Workaround: wait for the song to finish, then turn off the visualization.
Also, if you go into full-screen mode, the flashing goes away after about 5
seconds (if you stop moving the mouse).
Hope this is enough to guide you to the problem.
(My screen resolution is set to 1680 x 1050 (16:10 aspect ratio)

[Bug 272316] Re: [regression, intrepid] redraw problems, patches from fedora

2008-12-31 Thread Bob McElrath
This is not fixed in intrepid for me.

It is however sensitive to the zoom level. In xournal, maximize by
clicking the set zoom button, then select page height.

The bug I see is that drawn lines appear a long time behind the stylus,
and the bug gets worse as you move toward the lower right corner of the
screen. Try drawing quick strokes in the upper left and lower right,
and compare how long it takes for the stroke to appear on the screen.

I have 2.20.1.1-1ubuntu3 on intrepid. I recompiled by hand, removing
the 90_upstream_correctly_update.patch, and the bug disappears. I can
find no drawing errors

Note that the bugs reported in the original report above are still
present with the intrepid package, and also disappear when I remove the
90_upstream_correctly_update.patch. I can find no drawing errors at all
after removing it.

Did someone put a 'patch -R' in the wrong place?

[Bug 311494] Re: Hibernation and suspend do not work properly in Lenovo Ideapad Y530

2008-12-31 Thread Katsudon
I have seen this page recommended for Lenevo's with suspend to Disk/RAM
problems.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/NvidiaLaptopBinaryDriverSuspend;

The above link is related to Bug #34043, connected with proprietary nvidia
driver.
However, after switching off the proprietary driver the problem remains, so
probably these two issues are not related.

See also http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=564748#c4. I don't
know if it applies in this case (or in the very similar bug 296146), but
as I read it, the Brasero author seems to suggest that our version of
brasero, defaulting to growisofs, is a source of problems that can be
eliminated by using libburn for the backend.

[Bug 149665] Re: when returning from suspend my laptop tries to hibernate

2008-12-31 Thread Milan
Sistofe: sorry for the dup, but as ethanay was the only person still reporting
problems with this bug and this one was already quite long, I thought it would
be easier to continue the discussion here. Not really a big deal, IMHO.
And I've seen the remote watch in g-p-m; actually I commented twice there. The
point is, everybody but ethanay agreed that the bug was fixed. As nothing has
normally been introduced in g-p-m in Hardy, it was not stupid to think the
kernel fixed something.

ethanay: If you're sure you did not upgrade your kernel in the period the bug
reappeared, it's not a kernel bug. Can you have a look in Synaptic
(System-Administration), in the File-History menu you have a list of package
upgrades. If you find that gnome-power-manager was upgraded around the time the
bug came back, then please report the versions. Please do the same for the
d-bus package.
If there's no such upgrade, I'm not sure what we can do. No idea of another
change you made? Are you sure the bug had disappeared?

[Bug 288584] Re: DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply

2008-12-31 Thread gray
Hi

the error message is as follows:

DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply.
Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply,
the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout
expired, or the network connection was broken.

What happens is that I insert CD into the drive - a Sony DRU-840A
ATAPI/EIDE internal DVD-rom - and eventually the above error message
appears.

A couple of seconds later, the CD mounts anyway, allowing me to access
it as per expectation. I would assume the answer would be to extend the
timeout ?

What should happen is that the CD should mount without error.

The previous issue where the drive would eject and then immediately
retract has been fixed. Many thanks for that.

Cheers

[Bug 302570] Re: g-p-m doesn't save charge and discharge profiles

2008-12-31 Thread jnerin
I haven't found an upstream bug about this, and I'm not sure if we
should be the ones submitting it or the ubuntu package maintainer.

I have been searching for a way to write a serial number to the battery
so it will be reported by acpi, but so far I haven't found a way to do
this nor I have found if it's even possible. After much thinking about
the correct way to identify uniquely between various batteries I'm
convinced that the correct way would be to be able to write a serial
number if the battery hasn't one. Other correct way would be that the
user manually identifies the battery each time the system has doubts, a
major PITA.

I'm still searching about the way to modify the serial number field in
acpi.

2008-12-31 Thread Vincenzo Ciancia
Isn't this properly fixed in intrepid? AFAIR (I am not using ubuntu
right now - since I am not on my PC) rhythmbox has now no icon by
default. If you enable the notification area plugin then it minimises.
This is in my opinion a very good fix - but maybe I remember one thing
for another :)

[Bug 312777] [NEW] f-spot duplicate detection doesn't work

2008-12-31 Thread Florian Hars
Public bug reported:

If you attach the same camera a second time and select duplicate detection, it
will still import every picture it has already imported before, they are just
hidden from view.
(This is a variant of the third part of Bug #250899 and is serious enough to
merit its own bug, especially since the program cheats the user into believing
that detect duplicates does in fact work).

You should really get rid of f-spot in the main distribution until it
has at least alpha quality.

[Bug 309153] Re: pdf reference to other pdf files, when only relative path is given, is not working

2008-12-31 Thread Dimitrios Symeonidis
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 311306 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/311306

ginga, the issue you're reporting is part of a larger issue: pdf files
with relative links, be it to other pdf files, or to other parts of a
website.

this works when the pdf file is opened using a browser plugin.

instead, firefox saves the pdf file under /tmp and evince opens it from
there, so the initial url is lost

anyways, marked as a duplicate of the more general bug 311306, please
follow the comments there

I think the problem is with the Windows program that created the files.
They are attorney-client files, so I can't share them. My attorney

Win-Adobe Acrobat, so I think maybe there is a problem with the PDF
coding, not Evince. You can close the bug report if you wish.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at

bug as a bug in brasero.

Can you test it with the latest Ubuntu release (Intrepid )? Thanks in

it tries to present the Send/Receive dialog box across all 4 virtual

[Bug 239886] [NEW] Some sound buttons control PCM, changing master volumes has no effect

2008-12-31 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have the similar problem as some people who have already submitted
bugs, I'm unsure if this is actually a dupe or not (better to be safe?).

I just got a Gateway P-6860FX laptop. The volume change buttons effect
PCM, instead of master. The volume goes up and down and I successfully
get a box showing the volume. In my case, this seems to be good because
if I mute or change the volume to the master channel, I continue to hear
sound at whatever PCM's volume level is set at.

My mute button seems to have no effect. When I hit the mute button, I
do get a mute on and mute off message. The mixer window does NOT
show any channel being muted.

I started off by putting Hardy on this laptop, so I have no idea if the
bug has been recently introduced or not. I had these problems right ouf
of the box.

2008-12-31 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hi,
I have resistered a new user on my computer (Ubuntu Hardy) with the same rights
as the other. I can't login because gnome isn't starting. When I choose the
safe gnome session everything works fine. What exactly happens is that the
panels doesn't show up and I can't klick nowhere! With my first user I've got
no problems. For testing I turned off everything in the session config for this
user but the problem was still the same. I also removed the compiz package but
still no luck.

[Bug 312379] Re: Whacked out battery readings actually shutting laptop down

2008-12-31 Thread Clay Schultz
Running 8.10 on Toshiba Satellite a135-s4527.

Same thing here: Thought i needed a new battery but the problem comes
and goes. Sometimes i'll only get 30 minutes run and it will shut down
and other times it will last the full charge of a little better than an
hour. Even when it does last the full charge, gnome power manager
reports 118,000 hours and 50 minutes left . . . and i'm pretty sure
that's not right.
