Like the other bug said

It would
be nice if I could double click on the calendar and enter the data there. It
would also be nice if this entry would ask if I would like to create a contact
entry with the same name as the description field of the Calendar entry

Maybe not what some need but it would be easier for some of us and also
everything making linux easy
would probably make more people to switch over to linux from windows :)

You dont need to answer this email just my thoughts about it
I will see if there is a change when I update the system!

Best Regards
Carsten L.

Just an added comment to this report... in an out of the box install if
you try and add a bithday using calender it will state that it is a read
only calender as the original reporter stated. This does not affect the
default calender at all, just the Birthdays portion which is actually
 listed under contacts.

It appears that if you want to add a birthday to that calender you need
to list it in the contacts personal information. I'm wondering if the
option to add to that calender needs to be disabled if that is not the
desired function or if the calender should be marked for write access
and allow people to schedule times and such.

I still haven't searched for a duplicate report on this issue.

[Bug 313664] [NEW] Mahjongg wrong management of records window when finished a game

2009-01-04 Thread Igor Baldachini
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-games

When you play with Mahjongg and end the game, the window to write the name of
player for store score is displayed.
If you play more than one game, usually after three or four games, the name
stored with the score is the name of user that logged in without possibility to
change it (but for the firsts games it works correctly).
Also, one time happened to me that the window to store score was displayed for
another map, not for map that I played. When i switched to map that I played i
found the edit to store my name.

[Bug 313686] Re: totem-mozilla doesn't work when the URL has whitespace chars

2009-01-04 Thread goto
I can confirm this.
Not sure though if whitespaces are actually legal. Like and so on.
I think there is a rfc or so that explains that a whitespace should be %20
iirc.
If I try to open
http://videos.gameprotv.com/videos/The_Conduit/The%20Conduit%20Avance%20592x336.wmv
it works. So maybe this is a firefox or firefox plugin issue, because it does
not convert whitespaces into %20.
Thanks!

[Bug 313635] Re: Brasero Writing to DVD error

2009-01-04 Thread goto

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important
for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn
more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a
bug in brasero.
For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of applications
have bug reporting functionality built in to them. This can be accessed via the
Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the application with which you are
having an issue. You can learn more about this feature at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

The message was just some kind of status report. But could you please describe
the situation better? Does DVD writing work in general? Or does this error only
occur in that special case?
Thanks.

[Bug 260765] Re: DVD playback broken in Intrepid because of resindvd

2009-01-04 Thread HNT
I would like to point out that gst-plugins-bad 0.10.9 is available. Release
notes available at [0]
As you can see in the notes, DVD playback have been improved and if you look at
the notes of 0.10.8, you can see
that resin-dvd was in an experimental state at this release.
There already is a package for gst-plugins-bad 0.10.9 in the ppa of Alessandro
Decina [1] with also libcelt0.4.
That version is supposed to fix a lot of thinks and when I tested it, it used
to work.
So I think that backporting that 2 packages (gst-plugins-bad libcelt) is the
best solution.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be
reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the
development release - Jaunty Jackalope. It would help us greatly if you
could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next
release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release

Since restarting, i've played a wmv, which ran in playback, and the

Re: [Bug 313635] Re: Brasero Writing to DVD error

2009-01-04 Thread jam
Hi
Thanks for prompt reply.
Thanks for the hint you gave me.
I tried to write only one single file of 360kb to DVD with the help of
Gnomebaker. Its OK. Writing to DVD and then readable too.
I think its the problem with the depth of directory structure. I tried again
with Gnomebaker to write whole the directories i want to write to DVD and
got the error message:

genisoimage: Directories too deep for
'03-june/OldArmadDocs/oldDocs/MyWebs/jam/images/web/thumbs' (7) max is 6.
:-( write failed: Input/output error

Its the same for all DVD writing softwares in Ubuntu.
Is there any way to bypass this error?
U see that i recently changed the rout from windows vista :)

[Bug 75324] Re: Gnome file chooser/selector is way to small

2009-01-04 Thread Milan
AFAICS, there's no reason why a well-designed dialog should resize
itself immediately after being shown. So the bug is in GTK+, maybe
there's something in Compiz too but that's not the real source of the
issue. Please check that Metacity does not trigger this before going
further on that subject.

Anyway, there are two parts in this bug but you won't treat them
separately, that's of no use. If you like, go to the Compiz upstream bug
report and see what they say, but in GTK+ a single fix will do the
trick. And I'm able to experience the bug with a 1024x768 resolution, so
that's not the problem.

Please stop spamming the report with considerations other than
technical: the priority is 'Low' not because the number of people
experiencing this, bug because it's not preventing you from performing
any task, it's only highly annoying - and read again my previous comment
about that. About the update in Intrepid: again, there's no reason it
doesn't get into intrepid-updates if a patch is provided in time, read
Loïc's comment above. Now let's wait.

[Bug 313765] [NEW] Gnome-power-manager daemon blocks ACPI scripts

2009-01-04 Thread Eugenia Loli-Queru
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

When gnome-power-manager daemon is running, the acpi scripts on
/etc/acpi/suspend.d/ and /etc/acpi/resume.d/ don't get executed. I
needed to create a new script in there to tell it to unload my wifi
driver before going to sleep, but to no avail, the script wouldn't get
executed at all. After looking around, it was suggested that gnome-

[Bug 313765] Re: Gnome-power-manager daemon blocks ACPI scripts

2009-01-04 Thread Chris Coulson
gnome-power-manager doesn't block the execution of these scripts at all.
Some scripts (eg, /etc/acpi/sleep.sh) contain a check to see if gnome-
power-manager is running, before executing the action.

On a default system, the acpi-support scripts aren't used during
sleep/shutdown etc. Ubuntu uses pm-utils by default, unless you have a
strange configuration that tries to sleep using the acpi-support
scripts. If you want to use acpi-support to send the machine to sleep,
and you have gnome-power-manager running, just run sudo
/etc/acpi/sleep.sh force.

I'm closing this as this is not a bug in gnome-power-manager

[Bug 313760] Re: i want equal to windows 9.in ubuntu

2009-01-04 Thread Chris Coulson
Thanks, but that is not a Totem bug. The website checks if WMP is
installed on your system, and fails because it isn't. Because of this,
the Ubuntu team cannot fix your particular problem. You should contact
the website developers if you want to view the stream in an alternative
player.

Well, if gnome-power-manager is the default usage now, how the heck do I

[Bug 313686] [NEW] totem-mozilla doesn't work when the URL has whitespace chars

2009-01-04 Thread Ricardo Pérez López
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem-mozilla

When the URL has whitespace chars, the totem-mozilla plugin doesn't
work.

For example, try going to the following web page:

http://www.gameprotv.com/the-conduit-video-5532.html

The URL of the embedded video is:

http://videos.gameprotv.com/videos/The_Conduit/The Conduit Avance
592x336.wmv

(notice the blanks). The video can't be played. However, try the
following:

http://www.gameprotv.com/mando-de-nintendo-revolution-video-1413.html

The URL of the embedded video is:

http://videos.gameprotv.com/videos/Mando_de_Nintendo_Revolution/GPTV_Mando_Nintendo_Revolution.wmv

(without blanks). This time, the video is played perfectly.

[Bug 313802] [NEW] Rhythmbox does not report used space on ipod correctly

2009-01-04 Thread Will W
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Ubuntu 8.10
Rhythmbox 0.11.6svn20081008-0ubuntu4.2

Rhytmbox reports (in the status bar) the used space on my 4 GB ipod mini to be
5.1 GB. A check in nautilus shows there to be 61.4 MB free space.

As far as I can tell, the discrepancy comes from tracks which are
transcoded before being copied to the ipod:

In rhythmbox, when viewing the properties of the song that is on the
ipod it shows the filesize of the original (.flac) version even though
the version that is on the ipod (finding it in nautilus) is a smaller
mp3.

Not a major issue, i suppose. But means you have to check the remaining
space using nautilus every so often when copying music rather than
relying on rhythmbox.

[Bug 310598] Re: can't copy or move folders with gnome-user-share

2009-01-04 Thread Max-Ulrich Farber
This might be a bug in the backend of WebDAV in gvfs.

Accessing the share with the default syntax dav://... all folders can
be found and opened, but not copied or moved. Using the alternate acces
by the hidden folder ~/.gvfs/WebDAV on IP, every folder can be
copied without problems.

I can't test whether this problem is general with WebDAV or specific to
gnome-user-share.

The problem does certainly not affect GnomeVFS, but gvfs. This was a
typo; sorry!

[Bug 240933] Re: gnome stickykey does not work on openoffice

2009-01-04 Thread pauls
If you try sticky keys you will never want to go back. Sticky keys are
part of the X accessibility package. When enabled, it causes the
Control, Alt, Win, and Shift (any modifier) keys to stay engaged until
the next key is pressed. For example, if you want to hit the key
combination Alt-f to open the file menu, without sticky keys, you must
press the Alt and f keys at the same time. For most of us, hitting 2
keys at the same time takes 2 hands. With sticky keys, you can hit the
Alt, release it and then hit the f key. It will be interpreted as
though they were hit at the same time.

This is an extremely helpful feature whenever you're using a cramped
keyboard, as most laptops have today. Also, anyone who doesn't want to
use a mouse enjoys this feature, because it's easier to use keyboard
(combination) shortcuts to get around the desktop.

Try it and I think you'll become a user. Unfortunately, if you use
gnome, you'll get a buggy implementation (search and you will find other
bugs about gnome and sticky keys). But, kde-3.5.x has it implemented
perfectly (even better than M$)!

I have had the same experience -- with two separate UBUNTU 8.04 installations.
I spent considerable time trying to solve the problem. I was unsuccessful. I

it is a virus. I have recently installed UBUNTU 8.10 on several machines. This

I wouldn't recommend spending much time on this. I would recommend moving up to

[Bug 60394] Re: screensaver starts but shows only a black screen

2009-01-04 Thread heindsight
I'm having the same problem on my laptop running Hardy. Screensaver
previews work fine, but when I lock the screen, or when the screensaver
activates when the machine is idle or when I run gnome-screensaver-
command -a I only get a blank screen.

At first I thought the problem was due to some misconfiguration in my
user account, so I created a new user, but when I log in using that new
account the problem persists.

I chose the pictures folder screensaver in the screensaver properties dialog
and tried doing:
gnome-screensaver-command -a ps ax
I would have expected to see some mention of
/usr/lib/gnome-screensaver/gnome-screensaver/slideshow in the output, but it's
not there (i tried the same with various different screensavers all with the
same result).

For what it's worth, my graphics card is an Intel 82852/855GM Integrated
Graphics Device (rev 02) using the i810 driver (the newer intel driver
is rather buggy) and I have all desktop effects disabled.

[Bug 313737] Re: not possible to access to control panel

2009-01-04 Thread Chris Coulson
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How
to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 313753] [NEW] Fails to register to more than one account from the same provider

2009-01-04 Thread Kjell Braden
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ekiga

I have multiple accounts at my SIP-provider freenet.de, and I can
register only one of them at the same time. I fired up my network
sniffer and watched the login-process, and noticed that ekiga seems to
mix up with the username part of the digest authentication.

Say, I have account a...@freenet.de, b...@freenet.de and c...@freenet.de, and I
register a, it works. When I now register b and c they both still use
a in the username field of their digest authentication.

I first noticed this with ekiga 3, and it worked without issues in ekiga
2.

Using 3.0.1-1ubuntu1.

[Bug 90925] Re: hardware brightness keys on lenovo R60e are working strange in gnome

2009-01-04 Thread damip
I can confirm the bug with an up-to-date Jaunty on my Lenovo 3000 C200.
The same thing with brightness keys and applet.
I also have a problem with brightness settings : when I configure the system to
do not dim the screen after few minutes of inactivity, the setting is ignored
and it still tries (and fails) to reduce brightness, what causes the screen to
fade many times, while eating 100% of the CPU.
Also, when I open VLC, or somme SDL/OpenGl application, the brightness is
reduced to its minimal value, and with the first problem, it's hard to restore
it.

[Bug 285283] Re: Bluetooth file transfer to phone fails (from both Nautilus and Bluetooth applet)

2009-01-04 Thread lucge
Additional informations of my problem:
My device is a Palm Tungsten E2
Currently with Ibex:
- I can never transfer file from the Ibex PC to the device (like Mary with the
2 methods)
- Sometimes I can transfer a file from the device to the Ibex PC (~1 success
every 5 trials)
- Sometimes I can connect to the internet through dund (~1 success every 5
trials)
With Heron, all is OK

Then I compare the behavior between Ibex and Heron when I attempt to send a
file to the Palm device.
Previous attachment compare dbus messages during the attempt for both Heron and
Ibex.
What surprise me with Ibex record is the number of parameters sent with the
command CreateBluetoothSession: We find 3 parameters, but according to
http://wiki.muiline.com/obex-data-server/migrating_to_0.4 only 2 are needed.
I tried to upgrade obex_server to version 0.42 but the problem remains the
same... with the fact I could not transfer file from the device anymore - so I
came back to the 0.3.4+svn1951-0ubuntu1 version

Next attachment compare the result of the command hcitool info for both Heron
and Ibex:
It seems that Ibex is not able to connect to my Palm device for reading its
features

[Bug 310854] Re: Printing Photos with Canon original drivers stopped working in Intrepid

2009-01-04 Thread djtm
Hi Calbocano,

if you can get it I can really recommend my multi-function Canon Pixma
MP610. The Linux drivers are not perfect, but for printing they work
great. It's scans well copies great. And if you want to print pictures
you can do that directly from SD cards. That's how I fixed my problem
for now.

I didn't have these problems in Ubuntu 8.04 I could print pictures
without issues...

[Bug 313484] Re: deskbar-applet is outdated in the repositories

2009-01-04 Thread Martin Pitt
In any case it should be updated in Jaunty, which also has 2.24.1 still.

For SRU I'm not convinced yet. Most patches do not match the SRU
criteria, just this one looks interesting:

Fixed bug #559169: gnome power manager has new dbus path
(patch by Christian Assing)

Does that affect intrepid? Does it represent a regression?

Gnome bug 559169 affects Intrepid, and means that you can't perform
