Hi, I do experience this problem regularly - when I send attachments from Evolution to Outlook, they have funny names in Outlook (as described by Peter above). However, I do not know how to reproduce the bug - it seems to me that it occurs in case of long file names, and it does not happen always. I have experienced problems on all past Kubuntu systems I've been using (currently 8.10). Maybe the problem is long file names and non-standard letters (in Peter's example, he used the DK/N ø)... ? [Bug 316093] Re: gvfsd allocates huge amounts of memory while playing audio files
Thank you for picking up my bug report. I understand your request, and have installed valgrind on my system. However, since the program I suspect of leaking memory is gvfsd (I have acutally managed to reclaim the memory by killing it; it restarts automatically, and my swap is released. I will put this in my bug report asap.), and it is started automatically by Ubuntu when it starts the graphical environment, and it seems to be under the control of init, I'm at a loss as how to make valgrind control it. I have used System Monitor to kill the gvfsd process and that has released the consumed swap, confirming my suspicions that gvfsd was responsible for consuming the memory. Since gvfsd automatically gets restarted, that kind of works for me, but I hope you agree it's not a very good solution. -- gvfsd allocates huge amounts of memory while playing audio files https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/316093 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 299112] Re: VNC Very Slow after Intrepid Upgrade
Sebastien, I found your don't blame the volunteers! reply personally insulting and, more importantly, inappropriate and unhelpful for the present bug. Was that supposed to be PR? We bring up the how did this get through not to blame, obviously, but to highlight the severity of the bug: this is no annoying quirk or minor regression; this bug makes Ubuntu's VNC implementation immediately and completely unusable if there is a standard residential internet connection involved. Any testing under residential conditions should have shown it immediately. But since we've crossed that bridge, I will say this: if you can't properly test an update--whether because you don't have the resources, man hours, infrastructure, or whatever--you're still on the hook for the results. If you can't sufficiently test then I suggest you don't release. The regressions in the past few versions of Ubuntu are staggering, disastrous even, and no excuses change that fact. So yeah: blame the volunteers if that's where the blame lies. They may be overworked and faced with an impossible task, but that doesn't somehow absolve them of the blame. [Bug 272971] Re: Dock windows dangle when the panel autohides
Oh, I didn't know that this was reported already, just got referred here by a duplicate. Regarding the name: is this still about the gnome volume applet or about the gnome panel? The title is confusing (non-native speakers like me could wonder what dangle means :)), maybe we should clear up what the bug is really about because there is 2 things: 1) some people might want the volume applet to autohide but not the calendar 2) some people are more concerned about the situation when the panel autohides Could we clear this up? [Bug 316337] [NEW] Generated m4a files for mtp device don't play on device
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox My entire music collection is FLAC-encoded, so when I drag music from rhythmbox to my device, it should convert it to a format that's supported by my player. It used to (in intrepid) convert to MP3, and this worked great, but in jaunty rhythmbox creates m4a files, and while that shouldn't be a problem (the device should support MPEG4 Audio, according to mtp-detect; most built-in ringtones are .aac), the files won't play. [Bug 315273] Re: Nautilus CIFS mount with many files in a folder takes very long parse time
Steps to reproduce: 1. Mount CIFS resource on a local folder via fstab or manualy on a Windows server machine which contains many files, 1000 or more 2. Double click on mounted media (via show mounted volumes on desktop or Nautilus himself) 3. Go make a coffie untill just the content is parsed (not the thumbnails) in mean time, all mounted media will disapear from your desktop if you have more of them. Actual results: System enters in Idle mode while Nautilus tries to parse the content from server and this can take more than 10 seconds, depending how many files are on the other side what you are accesing Expected results: Nautilus should instantly parse the content then start feeding local client with thumbnails -- Nautilus CIFS mount with many files in a folder takes very long parse time https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/315273 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 316340] [NEW] new message should set the from address according to current folder
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution The new mail message behaviour has changed from Hardy to Intrepid.
