[Bug 316121] Re: Printing 2009 December in monthly view is not possible

2009-01-12 Thread Peter Triesz
Hi Lupine,
Thx for looking at it. This morning I finally managed to print December as well
but also reproduced the problem several times. Probably it also relates to the
landscape page settings, I used.
Anyhow, I have extended the steps. Following exactly these (from Today / Work
week state) I have reproduced it 3 times consistently.
Regards,
Peter

[Bug 304765] Re: Evolution mail renames attached pdf's to dat's...

2009-01-12 Thread dnh
Hi,

I do experience this problem regularly - when I send attachments from
Evolution to Outlook, they have funny names in Outlook (as described by
Peter above). However, I do not know how to reproduce the bug - it seems
to me that it occurs in case of long file names, and it does not happen
always.

I have experienced problems on all past Kubuntu systems I've been using
(currently 8.10).

Maybe the problem is long file names and non-standard letters (in
Peter's example, he used the DK/N ø)... ? Just guessing.

[Bug 234753] Re: gnome-terminal doesn't kill processes when closing a tab

2009-01-12 Thread Michał Gołębiowski
I don't understand - it behaves exactly as described in this bug, so how
could it be not connected?

If I enter exit, bash process exits - if I close a tab manually, by
mouse - it's still there until I close gnome-terminal completely. If I
leave opened vim in one tab and I close the tab manually - it does not
terminate until the exit of the whole gt.

Is it not just what this bug is about?

[Bug 316032] [NEW] Power saving: screen gets darker unwanted

2009-01-12 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Something is wrong with the power saving function: it fades the screen
and it gets darker when using the Compaq nx6310 laptop with battery. I
switched off this function in the power saving management. But I think,
this module causes the bug. I barely can start it
(System-Preferences-Power saving) when clicking on its icon. It takes
a while when its window popups after clicking on it. And once I checked
an option to let be dark the screen, it suddendly became light.
Unfortunately this happened only once, I couldn't reproduce it, but the
screen still gets dark, and then after a while light again. Intrepid
(8.10), everything is up-to-date.

[Bug 299112] [NEW] VNC Very Slow after Intrepid Upgrade

2009-01-12 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: vino

I upgraded a box from Hardy to Intrepid, and now connections to this box
via SSH and VNC are super slow.

Visually speaking, it looks like no compression is being applied to the
connection. I connect to the Intrepid box from a Windows machine using
Putty and tightvnc, and it looks like vino thinks this remote box is
on my local LAN. The compression and quality controls within tightvnc
have no effect on the connection. The only thing that changes the
connection is if I choose 8 bit graphics, but it's still very slow.

There is obviously a regression here because nothing else changed with
my setup.

Adding Type=Application for compiz.desktop solved the problem for

2009-01-12 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.

[Bug 316032] Re: Power saving: screen gets darker unwanted

2009-01-12 Thread launcspad
The button was unselected. (I'm not a newcomer.)

And the way, the screen was darken, was not the same like selecting this
option. It has got dark slowly, and after a while it was light again.
This happened only when I used battery, the bug does not appear using power
cable. After a reboot the screen starts light, that's why I think, this is not
a hardware error.
Does the brightness of the screen have a variable to follow up its state?

[Bug 315764] Re: Eog Segmentation Fault with exif

Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

Thank you for picking up my bug report.
I understand your request, and have installed valgrind on my system.
However, since the program I suspect of leaking memory is gvfsd (I have

2009-01-12 Thread lbhudda
I have used System Monitor to kill the gvfsd process and that has
released the consumed swap, confirming my suspicions that gvfsd was
responsible for consuming the memory. Since gvfsd automatically gets
restarted, that kind of works for me, but I hope you agree it's not a
very good solution.

[Bug 299112] Re: VNC Very Slow after Intrepid Upgrade

2009-01-12 Thread Chris Carlin
Sebastien, I found your don't blame the volunteers! reply personally
insulting and, more importantly, inappropriate and unhelpful for the
present bug. Was that supposed to be PR?

We bring up the how did this get through not to blame, obviously, but
to highlight the severity of the bug: this is no annoying quirk or minor
regression; this bug makes Ubuntu's VNC implementation immediately and
completely unusable if there is a standard residential internet
connection involved. Any testing under residential conditions should
have shown it immediately.

But since we've crossed that bridge, I will say this: if you can't
properly test an update--whether because you don't have the resources,
man hours, infrastructure, or whatever--you're still on the hook for the
results. If you can't sufficiently test then I suggest you don't
release. The regressions in the past few versions of Ubuntu are
staggering, disastrous even, and no excuses change that fact.

So yeah: blame the volunteers if that's where the blame lies. They may
be overworked and faced with an impossible task, but that doesn't
somehow absolve them of the blame. That's life in the real world.

[Bug 272971] Re: Dock windows dangle when the panel autohides

2009-01-12 Thread Bernhard
Oh, I didn't know that this was reported already, just got referred here
by a duplicate. Regarding the name: is this still about the gnome volume
applet or about the gnome panel? The title is confusing (non-native
speakers like me could wonder what dangle means :)), maybe we should
clear up what the bug is really about because there is 2 things:

1) some people might want the volume applet to autohide but not the calendar
2) some people are more concerned about the situation when the panel autohides

Could we clear this up? If this is about auto-hiding the panel, then
it's not really a duplicate of bug 279462.

[Bug 316337] [NEW] Generated m4a files for mtp device don't play on device

2009-01-12 Thread Martijn van de Streek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

My entire music collection is FLAC-encoded, so when I drag music from
rhythmbox to my device, it should convert it to a format that's
supported by my player.

It used to (in intrepid) convert to MP3, and this worked great, but in
jaunty rhythmbox creates m4a files, and while that shouldn't be a
problem (the device should support MPEG4 Audio, according to mtp-detect;
most built-in ringtones are .aac), the files won't play. Tags are read
correctly, it can also see the track length, but it won't play the
files.

mtp-detect output:
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/download.php?group_id=158745atid=809061file_id=298635aid=2190252

[Bug 315273] Re: Nautilus CIFS mount with many files in a folder takes very long parse time

2009-01-12 Thread Ivan Barjaktarov
Steps to reproduce:

1. Mount CIFS resource on a local folder via fstab or manualy on a Windows
server machine which contains many files, 1000 or more

2. Double click on mounted media (via show mounted volumes on desktop or
Nautilus himself)

3. Go make a coffie untill just the content is parsed (not the thumbnails) in
mean time, all mounted media will disapear from your desktop if you have more
of them.

Actual results:
System enters in Idle mode while Nautilus tries to parse the content from
server and this can take more than 10 seconds, depending how many files are on
the other side what you are accesing

Expected results:
Nautilus should instantly parse the content then start feeding local client
with thumbnails

[Bug 316340] [NEW] new message should set the from address according to current folder

2009-01-12 Thread Dan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

The new mail message behaviour has changed from Hardy to Intrepid. In
Hardy, pressing Ctrl+N or the New button when a mail folder is
selected would open the mail composer with the From address already
set to the value configured for that mail folder's account. This means
that the mail comes from the account that the user is currently working
in.

In Intrepid, New always opens the composer with the default From
address; Reply, and Post to Folder both set the account as expected.
