[Bug 340649] [NEW] When invoked from a remote X display, Rhythmbox streams only OGG files

2009-03-11 Thread Jim_mccauley
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Rhythmbox works perfectly when invoked from the local X display of the
system it's running on, and it plays and streams all the file types for
which I have codecs. However, when I open it up in an X window on a
remote display, it plays any local file, regardless of type, but it will
stream only OGG files. Attempting to play an MP3 internet stream
produces this error:

   Couldn't start playback
Could not determine type of stream

I ran a GTK stack trace but got only ordinary thread reports. Rhythmbox
does not crash on the error.

I can't tell if this is a Rhythmbox problem, something in gstreamer or
some configuration weirdness in X11.

I'm running Ubuntu 8.04. Rhythmbox is version 0.11.5-0ubuntu8.
Gstreamer is version 0.10.18-4ubuntu2.

[Bug 340800] Re: totem-plugin-viewer crashed with SIGSEGV in realloc()

This is reproducable with every link on http://apple.com/trailers
It does not matter if a link is opened with the browser plugin or standalone

To reproduce the issue, i simply have to open a link like

Hi Everyone.

Yes, I can confirm too, that the 12-hours format is the most common in
Colombia. Valid ways are: AM/PM, am/pm.

By the way, I reported the missing option in 9.04 (bug 337583) but they
said we know it and that was it...

Regards.

[Bug 335888] Re: default set of installed themes needs to be changed

2009-03-11 Thread Martin Pitt
Ken,

ah, the problem rather seems to be that the tarball you attached above
doesn't contain those images at all.

I think I'll just grab the files from the original bzr trees; is there
anything I need to throw out of them?

I'm also sufficiently annoyed by this bl***y autotools stuff that I'll
just rip it out completely and replace it with a sane and simple
dh_install and tiny Makefile for i18n.

[Bug 150460] Re: Login fails, failsafe login fails, gconf doesn't start

2009-03-11 Thread Jan Erik K
I installed Hardy Heron, downloaded directly from Ubuntu's mirror. My problem
started when i tried to login.
First, it looks ok, but when i press enter, nothing happen, only a dark screen.
2nd the same, 3th in Gnome failsafe, still nothing happen!
My machine is a x86 intel celeron 335 2,8 ghz, it has originally 256 mb of ram
when it came out, because it is 3 years ago this one was brand new, now i have
512 of ram, that should be ok.
Name of the machine is eMachine, the graphic is intel extreme 3D.

This is not the first time something like this happen, i tried once with
Kubuntu, the same reaction... nothing.
I think it was better the way it started up before, because now we are using
ext4 by default in order to get fast booting, and ever since then, my systems
have trouble when booting/ login.
But i suppose there is a way to change that, so i will go ahead now and try it
out...

[Bug 340515] Re: Consumes all CPU, logs a lot of output

2009-03-11 Thread Chris Coulson
Yes, if you manually start vino-server then enable it in Remote Desktop
Preferences afterwards, this sets the AutostartCondition to true and
causes gnome-session to start another instance. This instance
immediately exits though because there is already one running, which
triggers this endless cycle of restarts you're seeing.

If the first instance of vino-server is registering with gnome-session,
then I think that's a gnome-session bug (I can't check that until I get
home later though).

[Bug 297537] Re: hibernate again right after resume (now on jaunty)

2009-03-11 Thread BUGabundo
I just got hit by something very similar to this on jaunty.
I left my laptop go down until 3 min of battery, then put it to suspend, went
eat, 15-20min later I picked it up, plugged the AC power, and resumed it (from
suspend to memory).
When Desktop was reached it hibernated again (to disk, this time).

I guess this happened because when the system resumed, the power level
was lower then the value set to act (even though the AC was now ON), and
I have my system set to hibernate when on critical power.

ok, there we go, found it. Once again gconf screwed up. So a register-
all was required (maybe should be automatically ran, if let's say
libgnome geht's updates?)

[Bug 335888] Re: default set of installed themes needs to be changed

2009-03-11 Thread Dilomo
What version of new wave are we talking about? With dark menus or with
light ones? Which one will be included?

Martin:
you should take my theme from gnome-look as in th bzr the folders are not named
very good (e.g newwave-theme in bzr and NewWave in the other package). Here's
the link:

 http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/New+Wave?content=87134

So I did not understand which version is better for inclusion? 0.7.3 or
the new 0.8.0 that is going to be released soon?

[Bug 335888] Re: default set of installed themes needs to be changed

2009-03-11 Thread Martin Pitt
OK, I gave this another thought. gnome-themes-extras also exists in
Debian, so we'd divert even further. Plus, to make this sane in any
kind, I'd need to completely restructure the packaging and orig.tar.gz
order.

However, it seems that the new themes that Ken added are precisely the
ones that we want to install by default. Thus I'll do a completely new
source package gnome-themes-ubuntu instead of mess up gnome-themes-
extras even further.

Re: [Bug 340334] Re: Loaded Movie DVD, a shadowy image shows for 2 seconds, then blank.

2009-03-11 Thread Christopher Bragg
Hello and Thank You for a prompt response

Motherboard Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H rev 1.1, Integrated ATI HD3200
AMD780G Chipset Hardware encoding.

I purchased this Motherboard a while ago and intended to build a PVR,
this was the first step.

CPU AMD Athlon X2 4850e 2500 Mhz L2Cache 512KB x 2.

Movie Legal Copy of Movie DVD

Memory 2 GB Kingston KVR800D2N5K2/2G

I also changed the allocated Memory Setting in the Motherboard Bios for
the Chipset from Auto to 512 kb (Max)

I am about to change the connection between the motherboard and the LCD
monitor from VGA to DVI-D. I was using a Belkin flip between both
computers VGA connectors only. Will collect cable on Thursday.

My LCD monitor is a Benq FP937S, not a unit that Ubuntu has ever
recognised. So I have had to use the command line to configure.

This time I have used the ATI Catalyst Control Centre ver 2.1
Driver ver. 8.54.3

[Bug 334307] Re: gnome-appearance-properties: remove + arrow keys = broken

2009-03-11 Thread Jonas Kölker
 how do you delete it?

If it is my wallpaper as it appears in the G-A-P dialog, then I delete
it by hitting the Alt shortcut key (Alt+R, I think).

 clicking on the delete button

This is the one labeled Remove, correct? (Just to dispel all
ambiguity)

As an added observation: when I remove a wallpaper, pressing leftarrow (instead
of rightarrow) takes me to the last wallpaper.

Re: [Bug 339263] Re: drivemount_applet2 crashed with SIGSEGV in g_simple_async_result_complete()

2009-03-11 Thread mezclatebrother!
Well, there are some problems.

At first time, it seems to load the applet twice? or some else (see the
screenshot attached). It works fine, even you can unmount this without
problems, from the applet or from the link in the desktop. But if you try to
mount one more time, you can't unmount from the applet button, the applet
crash (the link in the desktop seems to work).

1.- duplicated camera applet icon.
2.- problems when you try to mount-unmount repeatedly.

Now i'm using...

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: gnome-applets

 Ubuntu 9.04

When i plug my camera, it shows two camera icons on the mount applet. The
error happen when i try to unmount one of them.

In other hand, when i plug the camera, it shows a dialog (similar to
windows one) which ask me what to do with. If i cancel this dialog and/or
try to open with other cam programs as gtkam, it could not open the camera
becouse it is mounted. I think that the correct way to work is not mount the
camera until i say view photos or similar in that dialog.

[Bug 335888] Copyright and License for Dust theme

2009-03-11 Thread Martin Pitt
Hello Kido,

as discussed in https://launchpad.net/bugs/335888, we'd like to
include the Dust and Dust Sand themes in the Ubuntu default
installation. Many thanks for creating those!

However, in order for us to be able to do this, the sources
(lp:dusttheme) need to have a copyright and license declaration.

The Launchpad project page says that this is intended to be GPL. Thus
can you please copy /usr/share/common-licenses/GPL-3 into your
branch as file COPYING? If you want to use a different license, such
as CC-BY-SA 2.5, please do that, of course. But it needs to have a
full copy of the license.

For the copyright, you should add something like this to e. g. README:

Copyright (C) 2009 Ricardo Mariano II
  Author: Ricardo Mariano II greasedb...@gmail.com
License: GPL v3, see file COPYING.

Committing those to bzr is enough, since I pull from that to package
gnome-themes-ubuntu.

Thank you!

2009-03-11 Thread Hew McLachlan
Thanks for your help Stéphane. Please note the comment from upstream:

You need to get one of the users to run gdb --args .../g-s-d --sync
then break in gdk_x_error, and post the result of a bt full. The
output of --debug might be helpful, too.

We need this type of trace from gdb, with those parameters.

Note also that you are still missing debug symbols for the following
packages:

libglib2.0-0
libgtk2.0-0
libxklavier12
libx11-6
libc6

[Bug 341083] [NEW] window drag: should snap to intended (!nearest) corner

2009-03-11 Thread Jonas Kölker
Public bug reported:

In metacity you can snap-drag by holding down alt, click-dragging a
window and then pressing shift.

Consider the following scenario:

- There are three windows, A, B and C. None overlap, A is slightly to the left
of B, C slightly above B.
- If you alt-drag B just enough to pick it up, then move it a little, it's
going to snap such that it's edge-to-edge with both A and C.

If you want to drag B to the opposite corner, the one furthest away
from the intersection of the bottom line of C and right line of A,
you're going to be dragging the window away from the place it snaps to.

The window snapping away from where you're dragging it is very counter-
intuitive. Wouldn't it be better if metacity snapped the window to the
position that the most recent mouse motion is pointing towards?

[Bug 181065] Re: Unable to unlock the screensaver

2009-03-11 Thread Naveen N Rao
I used to see this on Hardy. I moved to Intrepid a few months back and
wasn't seeing this bug until this week.

Interestingly, this always happens when I enter a *wrong* password once at the
gnome-screensaver password prompt:
- Lock screen (settings: blank screen, lock when screensaver active).
- Enter wrong password.
- It comes back with the password prompt with a message that the password was
incorrect.
- I enter the password again (doesn't matter if its correct/wrong).
- Boom - it hangs there with the 'Checking' message.

Switching to the terminal shows gnome-screensaver using 100% cpu. I've
previously just killed gnome-screensaver and moved on, though it looks
like it recovers after a long time.

This happens all the time - the magic is to enter a wrong password once/twice
at the password prompt.
I'm on Intrepid with latest updates. T61p with nVidia Quadro 570M GPU - 180.29
drivers.

Update: Looking at the logs, I might have found *where* the problem is.
The relevant part of auth.log:

Mar 11 18:00:09 xyz-tp unix_chkpwd[8968]: password check failed for user

In this case, I entered wrong password thrice - the first two times,
gnome-screensaver quickly came back with the prompt. The third time, it
hung with the 'Checking' message. If we look at the logs above, we can
see three log messages associated with each attempt: a unix_chkpwd
message, a gnome-screensaver-dialog: pam_unix message and a gnome-
screensaver-dialog: gkr-pam message. We can see that with the third
attempt (when the dialog box was hung), the third message (unlocking
login keyring) is *not* logged rightaway. It takes more than 10 min for
that message to appear. The other login messages at 18:08:53-54 are when
I logged in at a terminal and I don't think they are related to this
problem.

Other seemingly related bugs:
Bug 183486: gnome-screensaver locks up randomly when unlocking screen
Bug 314545: gnome-screensaver bad password timeout
