[Bug 342101] Re: no sound in new installation of ubuntu

2009-03-13 Thread Marlon Cisternas Milla
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How
to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 267371] Re: [gvfs] [smb] Damaged OpenOffice files from samba shares

2009-03-13 Thread Chris Cheney
I believe that this bug is essentially fixed in openoffice.org
1:3.0.1-5ubuntu1 in Jaunty as I have now turned off both gnome-vfs and
gio in OOo. OOo is now patched to use gvfs fuse which should work. There
are a few remaining bugs in gvfs fuse that cause saving not to work for
ftp/webdav but those bugs are already filed in the gnome upstream bug
tracker at:

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=574968
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=575150

Please let me know if this resolves your problem.

Thanks,

Chris Cheney

[Bug 298500] [NEW] Ubuntu 8.04 - system forgets hotkey settings for languages

2009-03-13 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I've installed two languages on my system and defined a hotkey for the
layout switching (win-key). After a reboot this definition is active in
the settings, but not in the system. The key doesn't react. I must
deactivate and reactive the definition (setting) to make it work. The
keybord indicator doesn't have this problem, but for me isn't it a
solution to use it (because I have to switch very often).

edit: It seems a general problem. In 'system - preferences - keybord'
all the settings work in an actual session and are lost after a reboot
(while options stay activated).

[Bug 138989] Re: [Gutsy] Usability problems in gnome-volume-control

2009-03-13 Thread edschofield
I was wrong. Not only is this not fixed, it is not even consistent in
Hardy.

- Checking and unchecking various checkboxes in the Volume Control
Preferences dialog causes additional sliders to appear in the Playback,
Recording and Options tabs somewhat randomly. For example, after some
fiddling with the Input Source checkboxes in Preferences, between one
and three Input Source text fields appear in the Options tab, all
indistinguishable but apparently controlling different channels.
Unclearing the Input Source checkboxes in Preferences does not remove
the entries reliably.

- Other usability bugs are present, like the Preferences dialog having
checkboxes for not only the expected Line-in, Front Mic,
Microphone, but also IEC958 Capture, Capture, Capture 1,
Capture 2, and three identical Input Source entries. The hardware
itself doesn't appear to have more than the first three input-related
sockets.

I'll test this on Jaunty, as Lionel requested...

Yes, it is reproducible.

The steps:
*take an installed Ubtuntu 8.04 (basic or complete)
*install and configure a second language (with special characters like ç or
ñ)
*define a hotkey to switch between the languages (and/or other keyboard
settings)
*test the function with a text editor and a special character
*configure automatic user login
*reboot
*repeat the test (switch an character): it doesn't work

[Bug 258734] Re: nautilus hangs when unmounting an nfs disk if nfs server is down

2009-03-13 Thread Antoine Pairet
Peter, I think you are right. Like you said, the hangs I experience are
only one of the symptoms.

As you seem to have a lot more knowledge than I have on the subject,
could you please fill a bug for the package nfs-common or linux? I think
you will be able to give more relevant informations than I would do.

Information from:
http://nfs.sourceforge.net/nfs-howto/ar01s04.html#mounting_remote_dirs

Mounting options:
hard

The program accessing a file on a NFS mounted file system will hang
when the server crashes. The process cannot be interrupted or killed
(except by a sure kill) unless you also specify intr. When the NFS
server is back online the program will continue undisturbed from where
it was. We recommend using hard, intr on all NFS mounted file systems.

If you do fill a new bug report, please let me know.
Thanks in advance,

[Bug 342186] [NEW] making caps lock a control retains 'lock' modifier

2009-03-13 Thread Ivo Timmermans
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

I have used the gnome keyboard properties to make the CapsLock key an
additional Control key, long ago.

Then, recently, I was having the problem described in this mail thread:
http://www.archivum.info/gnu.emacs.bug/2008-08/msg00978.html , which is
that pressing control+p or control+n in a recent emacs cvs build causes
the mark to be set. Reading on in the thread, this message
http://www.archivum.info/gnu.emacs.bug/2008-08/msg00967.html seems to
suggest that shift+control+p is actually passed to the application.

Running xev to verify this, pressing the CapsLock key and P together
causes a KeyPress event with state set to 0x6, and pressing the left
Control key and P together causes an event with state set to 0x4. After
some digging with xkbcomp and xmodmap, the following lines looked
suspicious to me:

  lockControl_L (0x42)
  control Control_L (0x25), Control_L (0x42), Control_R (0x69)

And sure enough, after an xmodmap -e 'clear lock', the state of the X
event caused by CapsLock now also reads 0x4. Emacs stopped being
annoying and I am happy.

So, in conclusion, the effect of the make caps lock an additional
control option makes the X server send the wrong information in the
events it generates.

Re: [Bug 258734] Re: nautilus hangs when unmounting an nfs disk if nfs server is down

2009-03-13 Thread Peter Funk
Hello,

Antoine Pairet wrote on Friday, 13.03.2009 at 09:33 (UTC?):
Peter, I think you are right. Like you said, the hangs I experience are
 only one of the symptoms.

As you seem to have a lot more knowledge than I have on the subject,
could you please fill a bug for the package nfs-common or linux? I think
you will be able to give more relevant informations than I would do.

I would have done this long time ago. But I still feel unable to
provide enough useful information.

I also can not believe, that I'm the one, who has experienced this first.
There must be some existing bug report somewhere. But I was unable
to find it. Any hints anybody?

Although: I'm pretty sure, this might be a problem caused within the
kernel itself. This is because even a umount -f hangs uninteruptable
for at least long enough for me to become impatient (I didn't say forever).

May be it is a design problem of the stateless NFS protocol in general?

 Information from:
 http://nfs.sourceforge.net/nfs-howto/ar01s04.html#mounting_remote_dirs

 Mounting options:
 hard

The program accessing a file on a NFS mounted file system will hang
when the server crashes. The process cannot be interrupted or killed
(except by a sure kill) unless you also specify intr. When the NFS
server is back online the program will continue undisturbed from where
it was. We recommend using hard, intr on all NFS mounted file systems.

I've already tried options hard, intr and even soft, intr on
a wide range of Linux systems. But if a mounted NFS server has
become unreachable, even trying to reboot the NFS Linux clients takes
forever, so if you need to get these client system back online in
acceptable time, pressing the hard reset switch was often the only
choice I had. This was with SuSE Linux, Red Hat, Debian and Ubuntu
systems in several different versions.

If you do fill a new bug report, please let me know.

 Thanks in advance,

ditto. I would also appreciate any pointer to locations to learn
more about this...

Regards, Peter

[Bug 342231] Re: crashed when transfering mp3 file to Sony Ericsson C902 phone

2009-03-13 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on
the crash report you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-
file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where
_my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

one of them. I tryed running from terminal and i saw these two
interesting messages (clicking on the bookmarks in the sidebar):

** (vinagre:27677): CRITICAL **: vinagre_bookmarks_entry_get_node:
assertion `VINAGRE_IS_BOOKMARKS_ENTRY (entry)' failed

** (vinagre:27677): CRITICAL **: fav_panel_activated: assertion

2009-03-13 Thread Tomasz Magulski
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Hi,

i have some problem with subtitles in Totem.

The problem is, that when i'm changing time using timeline, for some

This not a problem with subtitles, because when i play movie without
changing time, subtitles are display correctly.

Maybe it's not critical bug, but it's very annoing.
