[Bug 343061] [NEW] When video files start to open Totem Movie Player closes down.

2009-03-15 Thread Tad
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

There is actually no video or sound. The totem window opens up and then
closed. I've tried opening files and this last time tried opening
streamed video from the Gimp tutorial page (http://meetthegimp.org/).
The bar at the bottom of the totem window moves along indicating that
the stream is being buffered and then the window closes all together.

[Bug 343067] [NEW] Playing a DVD iso in totem causes the iso to be mounted in .gvfs and not played.

2009-03-15 Thread Mark Smith
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Description:Ubuntu jaunty (development branch)
Release:9.04

Regression In 9.04 (Jaunty): When using totem-xine, totem-gstreamer, etc
to open an iso, it mounts the iso to .gvfs, and then doesn't play it.
The files contained in the mounted folder are the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS
folders, and none of the files contained in them play. Right clicking
an ISO and opening it with totem (Movie Player menu option) used to play
the ISO if it was a DVD in Intrepid Ibex / 8.10. This is quite
important for people who are using netbooks and cannot watch DVDs via an
internal drive.

In the case of ALIEN.iso (Or JURASSIC169.ISO or APOLLO69.ISO or any
other backup of a DVD)

Expected: Right click on ALIEN.iso, navigate to Open With Open with
Movie Player, DVD playback begins.

Actual: Right click on ALIEN.iso, navigate to Open With Open with
Movie Player, DVD is mounted to .gvfs, appears on desktop. totem
doesn't play any files or add ALIEN.iso to playlist.

Reproducible: Always.

Other Notes: Physical DVDs are unaffected, and play normally (mounted on
/media/cdrom0, but playback from /dev/sr0)

totem:
  Installed: 2.25.92-0ubuntu2
  Candidate: 2.25.92-0ubuntu2
  Version table:
 *** 2.25.92-0ubuntu2 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Temporary workaround: Install totem-xine using your package manager.
Create a custom command launcher. Right click an ISO, click properties,
click the Open With tab, click Add, click the Use a custom command
arrow, and set the command to totem-xine dvd://

Sorry, my initial workaround is incomplete, and as a result launches
whatever is in your dvd drive. I made this mistake because I had the
original DVD and the iso I was trying to mount in my DVD drive.

Thank you Robert,
No the bottun part I mean the down part of the windows. The problem is

Does the button part mean the top of the window? If so, you can move

[Bug 61211] Re: Your audio capture settings are invalid. Please correct them in the Multimedia settings. is a really unhelpful error message

2009-03-15 Thread Sam Geeraerts
I just tested again.

In Hardy (well, gNewSense):

In Intrepid:

asoundconf set-default-card foo
Start Sound Recorder = no error
Recording from input Capture works.

So it looks like it's fixed in Intrepid.

[Bug 343135] [NEW] Cannot free up menu key so it can be used as the compose key

2009-03-15 Thread Robert Persson
Public bug reported:

This bug is in Ubuntu Intrepid.

If I assign the menu key to act as the compose key in my keyboard
preferences, I cannot actually use it as that because every time I press
it a contextual menu comes up. I can assign another function to the key
using the keyboard shortcuts tool, and disable the contextual menu that
way, but that still doesn't get the compose key functionality working.

This bug is a regression. I was able to use the menu key as the compose
key the last time I tried, which was quite many months back.
Unfortunately I cannot tell you exactly when it broke because another
bug was preventing me using the menu key on my laptop altogether until a
couple of days ago, but most likely it was during the upgrade to
Intrepid.

For me at least, this bug is a bit less trivial than it might appear,
because on the Canadian multilingual layout, which I use quite a lot,
another bug is also preventing right-ctrl and right-alt being used as
the menu key.

[Bug 249373] Re: gnome-session storing broken in intrepid

2009-03-15 Thread Qoquaq
those who provide only negative comments, please provide a better sense
of community than this.

lets join together to provide solutions rather than rail against those
who are working very hard to provide an environment which we love to
use. gnome is a great desktop. ubuntu is a great distribution. i am very
happy with both.

rather than saying those in the release process are wrong, provide data
to allow this to be fixed. negativity and mud-slinging is not beneficial
and only makes those who are working very hard providing software and
solutions upset.

*all* software will have bugs and defects. lets work to remove them
rather than being harsh against the development community.

[Bug 159042] Re: Nautilus is very slow in list mode with assistive technologies enabled

2009-03-15 Thread Martin Mai
This is still an issue with Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty). You can easily reproduce
doing the following:
1. Enable Assistive Technology
2. logout and login
3. Open nautilus and choose list view
4. Navigate to the folder /usr/lib
5. See how long it takes (it becomes unresponsible for some time)
6. Deaktivate Assistive Technology
7. logout and login
8. Do as in step 3 + 4
9. Feel the difference

[Bug 138989] Re: [Gutsy] Usability problems in gnome-volume-control

2009-03-15 Thread edschofield
gnome-volume-control is vastly improved in Jaunty. The Volume Control
Preferences menu now lists whether each 'track' pertains to Playback,
Recording, Switches, or Options.

The Alsa mixer still has too many options in the Preferences menu for my
on-board Intel audio hardware (see below). See the attached screenshot.
Input Source is listed three times, and Capture, Capture 1, and
Capture 2 are indistinguishable to me. (The UI also gives me no clue
about what the IEC958 tracks are ...)

With kernel 2.6.28-ubuntu9, lspci -vv gives:

00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio
Controller (rev 02)
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Device 820a

Region 0: Memory at ff9f4000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
Capabilities: access denied
Kernel driver in use: HDA Intel

If I open an upstream bug report, should this be against alsa or gnome-
volume-control?

this is not a serious bug but i think fixing this should not be a big

Let me know if you want me to open another one, or wait until there is a

There's also a bug with metacity not saving window position that

I'd go digging for it, but going through window manager bugs tends to

[Bug 249373] Re: gnome-session storing broken in intrepid

2009-03-15 Thread Ian Ellis
Well said, Qoquaq. A bug report isn't really the place for this, but I
thought I'd add something to that comment. Criticism is fine, as long
as it's constructive criticism. Most people are happy to receive
constructive criticism. In fact, I believe that Ubuntu has a places for
it. There's brainstorm.ubuntu.com and a qa.ubuntu.com. So, rather than
re-iterating that this is a horrible bug and Ubuntu sucks because of it,
go over there and offer ideas about how to stop stuff like this
happening in the future.

[Bug 229976] Re: gnome-panel has major memory leak

2009-03-15 Thread Derek White
This is still going on with fully updated (proposed backports) Ubuntu
8.10 Intrepid.

Ekiga 3.0.2 (in the tray) is also eating memory. When I restart ekiga,
gnome-panel memory usage goes back down to the mid teens (normal for
me).

Seems as though gnome-panel is accepting (and taking ownership of)
leaked memory from other applications. Doesn't seem like a good thing
for it to do...
