Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue
 for you? Thanks in advance.

[Bug 345255] [NEW] If unmounting an open drive, it will have an error

2009-03-19 Thread Jacob
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I try to unmount an external USB hard drive by clicking on the small
eject icon in nautilus next to the drives icon in the places side pane.

It came up with an error because the drive is still in use. This is true
because the drive is the folder that is currently open in nautilus.

I expected the drive to be unmounted and nautilus directing me to
another folder.

I consider this a low importance bug as instead of displaying an error,
nautilus should redirect me to another folder THEN unmount the drive.

I am using Ubuntu 8.10 with all the latest updates.

Output from: apt-cache policy nautilus

Re: [Bug 240916] Re: can't configure display resolution (monitor, graphics card) manually in gui

2009-03-19 Thread TheZorch
I was told by someone in an Ubuntu support mailing list that you can
make a copy of the xorg.conf file that has the proper video card and
monitor configurations and overwrite the xorg.conf file in a new
install which doesn't properly detect these settings and the copied
file will work.

Is this true? The next release of Ubuntu is coming up and I want to
do a full reinstall rather than an upgrade, so can I use my existing
xorg.comf file to make my current display settings work properly?

[Bug 345267] [NEW] Go directly in lock mode after an auto-login

2009-03-19 Thread Patrice Vetsel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Under gdmsetup, in security, it would be great to have another option under
automatic login.
If automatic login is activated, you should also have the possibility to
activate (or not) gnome-screensaver just after login.

So you can power on your PC, automatically login, software set in gnome
session start can be launched (evolution ...) automatically, and at last
for security the session go to screensaver lock.

[Bug 305030] Re: Failed to print document - can't prompt for authorization

2009-03-19 Thread Ralph
I have a similar problem with IPP printing that requires authentication,
and I think it's the same bug (or related at least).

I set up the printer (IPP) and the first time I printed I was prompted for a
password, but it worked.
After this, however, I got the authentication error described above.

After som digging, I have it kind of working by doing this:
1. Changing the URI in /etc/cups/printers.conf from
DeviceURI ipp://ipp-printer-server-adress:631/printers/printer1
to
DeviceURI ipp://USER:PASSWORD@ipp-printer-server-adress:631/printers/printer1
2. Removed myself from the lpadmin group.

Now I can print using lpr or Acroreader (which uses lp/lpr), but I still
can't print from Evince!

Adding the USER:PASSWORD in system-config-printer does not work, but manually
editing /etc/cups/printers.conf did.
As a first try, I commented out the AuthInfoRequired line, but it crept back
in when I restarted Cups!

Another thing which may or may not be related is that I can't change the
printer settings for this printer that require authentication. [And yes, I
tried it while still begin in the lpadmin group...]
If I use the Cups web interface, it works however. But it's not very
convenient...

[Bug 345271] [NEW] Error while Refreshing folder

2009-03-19 Thread Walther
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Hi,

I have two IMAP accounts. (Use Ubuntu 8.10 - 64bit) Every now and then I get
this error on the 2nd account (never seems to happen on the 1st, although the
first): Error while Refreshing folder. I also sometimes get: Error while
Storing folder 'INBOX'. In the console I get:
evolution-mail-Message: Error occurred while existing dialogue active:
Server unexpectedly disconnected: Operation now in progress

I have deleted the account and all files and folders in .evolution I could find
with the name of the account in them, but it does not solve the problem. I have
also tried all the force-shutdown + file deletion suggestions I could find in
the last 3 weeks on the web. What I end up doing is closing Evolution, using
webmail and then after a day or two the Evolution works again. Strange. It will
then work for a day or so and then the error is back.
When I get the error I receive mail on the 1st account, I can also send mail on
both accounts.

Regards,

Walther

[Bug 320547] Re: trying to browse smb:// network spawn an error

2009-03-19 Thread Ajit
Hi Daniel, I've upgraded again gvfs and than installed proposed
updating. Now I'm back to the retrieving error.

I've seen also cupssamba-updating in the proposed section, but still I
have problem to connect to the Windows Printer via Samba. Some updates
ago (two or three months ago) it was working fine.

Notice that: in the New Printer dialog box, it is very possible to
browse the network up to the printer; then the verify process fails.

By browsing the network with Nautilus I got the retrieving error
instead.

Thank you again for you support.

AFAICT, there are 2 versions of libdvdread. The historical one from ogle
(http://www.dtek.chalmers.se/groups/dvd/downloads.shtml) and a fork from
mplayer's dev. The version from ogle is 0.9.7 (DVDREAD_VERSION = 907 in
dvd_reader.h), the version from mplayer is 4.1.3 but DVDREAD_VERSION =
904 in dvd_reader.h. All this is not very consistent, IMHO.

[Bug 330684] Re: Merge libdvdread 4.x from Debian unstable

As long as there are 2 concurent versions of libdvdread, both starting
from 0.9.4 and fixing things, one must be a fork of the other. Which is
which is not meaningfull. However, I don't have any true evidence the
4.1.3 fixes more issues than 0.9.7.

Anyway, OGMRip is using DVDREAD_VERSION to check for functionnalities.
Unfortunately, functionnalities of 4.1.3 and 0.9.4 are not identical
even though DVDREAD_VERSION are.

[Bug 345318] [NEW] Brightness control is slow and not costant with 90-Add-guarded-brightness-stepping-functions.patch 91-Using-guarded-and-scaled-stepping-when-dimming.patch

2009-03-19 Thread Andrea Cimitan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

90-Add-guarded-brightness-stepping-functions.patch and
91-Using-guarded-and-scaled-stepping-when-dimming.patch are introducing this
bug.
When changing the brightness, the control is not costant and it is really slow.
I explain better what I mean.
When I am at 30% and I want to reduce till 20% I have to press 4 times, when I
am at 20% and I want to reduce till 10% i have to press 5 times.
That means ~15 key press to reduce the backlight from 50 till 10! Totally
unusable. Something like:

60-50: 1 time
50-40: 2 times
40-30: 3 times
30-20: 4 times
20-10: 5 times
10-00: 6 times

...just to give you an idea. This is not the correct behaviour, with
default gnome-power-manager the control is ~ 10% step for each key
event, in ubuntu the control is choppy for this reason.

Removing
90-Add-guarded-brightness-stepping-functions.patch
91-Using-guarded-and-scaled-stepping-when-dimming.patch
FIXES the bug.
I am wondering, why we have those two patches? :)

[Bug 345299] [NEW] Missing of icons for eject/unmount

2009-03-19 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: gnome-mount

Using many external storage drives (dongle/external hdd ...) Gnome is
not friendly in using them.

For that, gnome-media-applet offers many interresting features.

First, in place menu there are no icons to unmount drives, also on icons
drives under desktop. They are shown only in nautilus.

Second, after an unmount of a drive, the drive is the same in gnome
place menu. No differences between mounted or not (gnome-media-applet
have icon grayed when unmounted). It's visually a great feature.

Last, an idea : why not using an screenlet/gdesklets to store
dynamically icons of drives. Gnome remember last position of drive icon
on desktop. Problem is that it can already have a icon of a file/folder
in that position and gnome place the drive icon under the already
present icon.

[Bug 293401] Re: Multipal icons in Main Menu, when editing.

2009-03-19 Thread Sebastien Bacher
those are special entries for actions showed in the nautilus context
menus on iso files for example and not real menu entries, there is no
way to filter those out of the menu editor right now though since that
would also make nautilus not list the actions, there is some bugs about
that already open closing this one

[Bug 345267] Re: Go directly in lock mode after an auto-login

2009-03-19 Thread Sebastien Bacher
thank but that's not a realistic request, you can as well not enable
autologin and enter your password on gdm that doing that, the ubuntu
team doesn't have the ressource to work on such changes and that has
strictly no interest that would complicate code, options, configuration
tools, etc to win a few second of login and have a less reliable way to
do things

[Bug 330684] Re: Merge libdvdread 4.x from Debian unstable

2009-03-19 Thread Onkar Shinde
@bill,

The version from mplayer is not a fork. They have taken over the development of
libdvdread.
And a quick grep for DVDREAD_VERSION in the current source reveals that this
string is defined but not used anywhere. So I don't think it is significant.

As far as the functionality goes, the upstream changelog claims that
there have been many bug fixes. So I don't see a reason not to use it.
Do you have any particular reason against the transition?

[Bug 345335] [NEW] Metacity doesn't honor moved panels when maximizing

2009-03-19 Thread s.willert
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: metacity

When using TwinView and moving a gnome-panel from one monitor to
another, maximizing windows doesn't take into account the new position
of the panel. Windows on the monitor on which the panels were placed
when the session started still leave room where the panel was, windows
on the other monitor still maximize as if the panel wasn't there and
thus are rendered partly below the panel. This is especially annoying
because they loose their window control buttons on the title bar if the
moved panel was a top panel.

This is a regression to Intrepid

[Bug 345345] [NEW] Gnome panel freezes when connecting projector

2009-03-19 Thread Toon Verwaest
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

When I activate a projector with nvidia-settings which has lower
resolution than my laptop screen, the gnome-panel freezes. The way to
reactivate the panel seems to be moving it to the projector. When I move
it back from there it keeps on working; until I deactivate the
projector. At that point, depending where the panel comes from, it
freezes again or not.

It doesn't crash so I can't give a more detailed report (or I don't know
how to).

This is happening on 9.04 alpha 6, but as far as I remember it also
happened on 8.10.

** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 334824] Re: Google calendar dialog doesn't have username field

2009-03-19 Thread Christoph B
Hi noticed this yesterday and did a full update,

I use this version:
evolution:
  Installiert: 2.26.0-0ubuntu2
  Kandidat: 2.26.0-0ubuntu2
  Versions-Tabelle:
 *** 2.26.0-0ubuntu2 0

When I create a new google calendar, the only things that I can set is
the calendar name, color and checkboxes for offline sync/ default
calendar, no username, no password. Compared to a 8.10 install, there
everything looks fine.

[Bug 345189] Re: Change to 13.333px is a regression for me - fonts far too large

2009-03-19 Thread Carlos Perelló Marín
Here you have the screenshots I took in my latop.

My dpi setting is 106 (it was changed automatically from 96 when I
migrated to Jaunty).

The dpyinfo command says this about my screen:

screen #0:
  dimensions:1024x768 pixels (246x185 millimeters)
  resolution:106x105 dots per inch

If you need more information about dpyinfo tell me it and I will include
its full output.

[Bug 131227] Re: notification-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in strcmp()

2009-03-19 Thread Michael Vogt
I looked a bit into it and it seems to be unreleated to the patch. I
sponsor the patch now, it fixes the problem at hand. A alternative
approach would be to use g_timeout_add() in the destroy_engine() code
and have a really_destory_engine() function that is run on the next
gtk_main_loop and does the g_module_close() and g_free(engine). But your
approach should be fine as well.

Thanks!
 Michael
