I want to confirm this issue; my laptop is a Thinkpad X61 and brightness
control is not working with Intrepid Ibex (it worked in Ubuntu 8.04).

Which files do I need to add to this report?

[Bug 187540] Re: Gnome-panel freeze when 8 windows are open when the panel is vertical

2009-03-27 Thread Luca Cremonesi
Sad thing is that users having notebooks with widescreen will still suffer
 from this bug.
Of course as long as they won't waste their vertical space with
 horizontal-oriented
panels or run too many GUI applications.

A partial solution for my widescreen laptop was the use of Separtors in an
expanded panel to limit the growth of the Window List applet to a maximum of 7
rows of buttons.
It's not an optimal solution but it is extremely easy to adopt and it works.

[Bug 333608] Re: deskbar-applet crashed with SIGSEGV in PyType_IsSubtype()

2009-03-27 Thread nikolay botev
I filed bug 349391 which looks exactly like this bug but I believe is
different.

The bug here, I joined while testing jaunty on my laptop (nvidia
graphics with propr. driver)

The new bug presents the same problem, but on my desktop, after i
upgraded it from 810 to 904 beta and installed fglrx (it works on 904
beta with radeon)

the key difference from the log files: here is the crash record on my
desktop:

Mar 27 00:08:34 nikolay-quad kernel: [ 7822.490412] deskbar-
applet[12675]: segfault at fd ip 00467c45 sp 7fff9ee7ded8
error 4 in python2.6[40+216000]

... i will post the corresponding line for my laptop from before the problem
got solved there.

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I was using Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid) with GNOME on my Dell 500 Laptop for
a some time all was fine.

After recent update via Update Manager, some multimedia keys (Mute, Play, Stop)

Next and Prev buttons works only if Rhythmbox window is active.
VolumeUp and VolumeDown still works.

Unfortunately i can not localize which update caused regression.
It happend somewhen since Nov 14.

[Bug 327775] Re: Evolution won't parse messages, stuck on Formating message ... in the status bar

2009-03-27 Thread Dan Kortschak
This has just started happening for me - only with html messages, but
100% reproducible.

Though I should add that the non-response has been going on for a long
time (don't recall how many versions): when evolution has decided it is
doing something it's non-response to a window closure circumvents the
window manager's monitoring of that, so a killall is the oply thing that
will close the window. This I think is a significant failing in the UI.

[Bug 349417] [NEW] Epiphany crashes with Netvibes

2009-03-27 Thread Brice Terzaghi
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

When trying to log in my personal page on netvibes.com, Epiphany crashes with a
segmentation fault. The default page displays fine.
It happens as follow :
- I go to netvibes.com
- I click on sign in, a popup window (in website, not a system window)
appears to enter my login
- after I enter login password and click on sign in, the browser crashes

It happens with both versions of Epiphany (Gecko and Webkit). Using
Epiphany 2.24.1-0ubuntu1 / Ubuntu 8.10.

Netvibes works fine with Firefox (3.0.7 ; worked fine with previous
versions too) and Opera 9.64.

2009-03-27 Thread pit
Bug has been solved:

Some old libs (glib, etc.) had been installed in /usr/local/lib/ and these have
been used instead of the new correct ones in /usr/lib/.
This had been necessary in Ubuntu 8.04 to run vmware server.

After deleting the libs in /usr/local/ everything went smooth.

[Bug 334377] Re: Lots of country names are missing, showing missing from libgweather in mobile broadband connection wizard.

2009-03-27 Thread Antti Kaijanmäki
Actually I don't have time to work on this right now, but it seems that
I have to as it seems no one else is going to do it. I know this is
really important and I really want to get this fixed.

missing from libgweather is intended to make it clear for testers that
libgweather is missing translations so that they can be added before a
new release, but that's now irrelevant. I described the problem causing
this bug on 2009-03-07. I'll do my best to get this fixed before
FinalFreeze on 9.4.

And yes, please, bump the Importance to High. I don't seem to have the
permissions to do that myself.

[Bug 349394] Re: it crashes in a amount of time

2009-03-27 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 349437] Re: System policy prevents stopping the system when other users are logged in

2009-03-27 Thread old_toby
Yes, I never had the bug in intrepid, and I hope it won't even be in
jaunty's final release.

Here is the log:

Session1:
unix-user = '1000'
realname = 'Simon Scheiwiller,,,'
seat = 'Seat1'
session-type = ''
active = TRUE
x11-display = ':0'
x11-display-device = '/dev/tty7'
display-device = ''
remote-host-name = ''
is-local = TRUE
on-since = '2009-03-27T09:46:18.998906Z'
login-session-id = ''

When I ran ck-list-sessions the first time (without logging) there was
another session for cron, and after the cron job was finished the bug
didn't appear. So it's probably cron-related.

[Bug 148534] [NEW] User can shutdown machine even if others are logged in

2009-03-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: fast-user-switch-applet

Ubuntu offers to shut down/restart the computer even if other users are
logged in, so if user A has unsaved data open, and user B shuts down the
computer, A loses data.

There should at least be a message X users are still logged in, do you
really want to restart?.

Ciao

[Bug 310563] [NEW] Users can shut down the system even if disallowed via Authorizations

2009-03-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

You have been subscribed to a public security bug:

Binary package hint: policykit-gnome

On Ubuntu Hardy, the policy that allows or disallows users to shut down
the system, or to shut down the system wile other users are logged in,
is completely ignored. Any user can shut down the system, no matter if
there are other users logged in, nor if you have disallowed it via the
Authorizations dialog.

There is a similar bug reported for the Beta version (Bug #148534), but
it is marked as wishlist and looks like wil never be fixed. I think
this is a serious enough problem on an enterprise-quality Linux distro.

[Bug 341367] Re: Update to 3.2

2009-03-27 Thread Martin Pitt
Ken, your changes look a bit weird. You modified
debian/patches/ubuntu_lpi.patch, added a new
debian/patches/ubuntu_lpi2.patch, and disabled ubuntu_lpi.patch in
series without adding ubuntu_lpi2.patch. You also removed autoconf.patch
without documenting the reason in the changelog. Indeed LPI doesn't
exist in the current PPA packages.

[Bug 310563] Re: Users can shut down the system even if disallowed via Authorizations

2009-03-27 Thread Martin Pitt
bug 148534 is fixed, I just closed it.

The problem here is that in Hardy, gnome-panel and fusa still used the
gdm functions for shutting down/rebooting. Since intrepid they use the
ConsoleKit D-BUS calls which are properly PolicyKit-protected, and thus
they obey the PK policy settings.

[Bug 349483] [NEW] gnome-sound-properties and gnome-volume-control-settings from gnome-volume-control-pulse have the same menu entry, and very similar descriptions

2009-03-27 Thread Ketil Wendelbo Aanensen
Public bug reported:

See screenshot for the apps with their corresponding launchers.

This may of course be mostly related to the i18n packages used (Nowegian
Bokmaal), so feel free to change to that, but I think applies to
usability everywhere.

Some translations:
Lyd = Sound

Aktiver lyd og tilegn lyder til hendelser
translation: Activate sound and assign sounds to events

Endre volum og tilegne lyder til hendelser
translation: Change volume and assign sounds to events

It is a little hard to determine which app does what, so they at least
deserve some explanation in their default descriptions, and different
menu entries.

Ideally, there would be ONE UI that took care of all these settings,
which should be a big usability priority. (The same scattered options
and settings also apply to other system apps, like screen/graphics and
keyboard)

[Bug 349515] [NEW] Applications use the system bell beep for alerts

2009-03-27 Thread nh2
Public bug reported:

This is a refile of Bug #280625
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/280625).

I do not know which part of GTK is causing the problem, so I file it
against the gtk-demo application (package gtk2.0-examples).

To reproduce:
Open gtk-demo, open the Assistant demo and type a backspace into the text
box. The internal PC speaker (also known as beep) rings instead of the
expected Ubuntu notification sound configured in the sound settings.

This bug affects many applications (all that use GTK) such as Firefox

[Bug 337926] [NEW] vino: mouse cursor stays in upper left corner

2009-03-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Seen on Jaunty Alpha: when accessing the desktop using Vino, the mouse
cursor is stuck in upper left corner of the screen. More detailed, I can
move the cursor using the physical mouse attached to the Jaunty system,
but as soon as on the other machine I move the mouse into VNC window,
the cursor on the Jaunty machine is moved to upper left corner. Clicking
with the VNC mouse works, though (it opens the Application menu which is
in that corner).

I haven't seen this problem on Intrepid, only on Jaunty. Also, it only
happened on a fully-installed system (installed to USB flash drive), on
an EeePC 701. When using the Jaunty Live CD (booted over network) on
another system and also with a bigger monitor, the problem did not
occur; so apparently it doesn't happen in really all cases. On the
affected system, the problem occurs every time, however.

Switching Compiz on or off hasn't helped so far. The problem also occurs
with all VNC viewers I tried (krdc, vinagre, xvncviewer).

This is with Jaunty Alpha 5 with all updates installed, using vino
2.25.92-0ubuntu1 .

[Bug 114919] Re: automount of USB disk does not work anymore after suspend to disk

2009-03-27 Thread xenesis
This bug still exists in Ubuntu 8.10:

sudo fdisk -l says USB disk is /dev/sdd5

gnome-mount -v -t /dev/sdd5 says that /dev/sdd5 is not a volume.
However doing a manual mount works.

If you restart GNOME after suspend with sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart,
automounting will work again.

Furthermore, it seems like the kernel doesn't wake up external HDs correctly.
Before I go to suspend the disk was known as /dev/sdc, after wakeup its
/dev/sdd. It should be /dev/sdc again.
