[Bug 353958] Re: Cannot add a sound mixer applet

2009-04-04 Thread Vivien Taillandier
I read the ~/.xsession-errors but nothing concerning the mixer-applet.
Since I don't know how to use gdb, could you tell me how to do it ?

I tried to figure out the command-line to show the applets-dialog, and I found
the panel-test-applets.
When clicking on Execute with the applet OAFIID:GNOME_MixerApplet, the
application froze, whereas the others shows a little applet (like the
trash-applet)

I hope I'll be more helpful on my next comment !

[Bug 354608] Re: Unable to change folder views for external storage in Gnome (Ubuntu intrepid)

2009-04-04 Thread Pickard
Thank you very much for your Answer, Sebastian Bacher!
On my System is this reproducible.
Steps:
i run the Program: Ubuntu Tweak Version= 0.4.6
and make with the selection:
Persönlich (personal) and
Ordner (Folder)
the follow change:
home/stefan/Dokumente (documents) to media/Dokumente (my 8GB-SD-Card)
name=Dokumente
home/stefan/Bilder (pictures) to media/8GB-Stick/Documents/Pictures
home/stefan/Musik (music) to media/8GB-Stick/Documents/music
home/stefan/Videos (videos) to media/8GB-Stick/Documents/Videos
 ...and after new reboot the System making the System-standart return
(%home/...)

Yesterday, i make more as 5 trys with this...and the System not accept my
change.
I'm writing this error-report to launchpad in englisch and in ubuntu-users.de
in german.
Today i see your answer-e-mail's (your Question...and by-hand solution from
stfischr/supporter from http://forum/ubuntuusers.de;. I make the by hand
solution: with Shell (Shell-Order:
sudo mount --bind /media/8GB-Stick/Documents/Music /home/stefan/Musik
and for Videos , Pictures and Documents from my another storage (8GB-SD-card)
with name: Dokumente (documents)
This way is gone and the System accept this.

Just i making fix change in /etc/fstab-File with Order also from
stfischr/supporter
/media/Dokumente /home/stefan/Dokumente none bind 0 0
/media/8GB-Stick/Documents/Pictures /home/stefan/Bilder none bind 0 0
/media/8GB-Stick/Documents/Music /home/stefan/Musik none bind 0 0
/media/8GB-Stick/Documents/Videos /home/stefan/Videos none bind 0 0

a after reboot it's going perfect ;-)

Thank you very much for your help and answer...i don't know, why the
system my order's (from the Ubuntu Tweak) not accept, but the change
by-hand has functions.

Arrangement:
All my LOG-files from /var/log with packed-file

Thank you very much and much greetings from

[Bug 355050] [NEW] seahorse can't sync with socks proxy only

2009-04-04 Thread Mikael Nordfeldth
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: seahorse

seahorse can't access key servers over HTTP (hkp://) when only SOCKS proxy is
configured in gnome-network-properties.
I have no means to try with an HTTP proxy configured.

Error message (for each hkp:// key server with respective change host:port) is

[Bug 355077] [NEW] evolution trayicon uses its own tooltip theme

2009-04-04 Thread Martin Mai
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Evolution seems to be the only application (from the standard ones) that
uses its own tooltip style/theme for the tray icon. It should use the
system theme.

I have attached some screenshots showing the issue.

[Bug 325157] Re: I could not empty the trash folder

2009-04-04 Thread Peter Belmont
The EVOLUTION software appears NEVER to have been fixed.
However, NORMAL DB OPERATIONS SEEM TO HAVE WORKED.
So, one must wonder WHY the normal empty trash did NOT work.

I did SOMETHING LIKE:

cd .evolution/mail/local
sqlite3 folders.db
 .output stdout
 .tables trash  ##
showing precise name of trash TABLE
 select count(*) from '[name of trash table]' ; ## to verify it
contained 3000+ items
 delete from '[name of trash table]' ; ## to empty the
trash
 select count(*) from '[name of trash table]' ; ## to verify it was
now empty
 .quit

to delete the Trash.
It felt very dangerous but seems to have worked.

[Bug 354928] Re: Rhythmbox crash on create Auto Playlist

2009-04-04 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

 If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

 If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

 If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
 I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 354264] Re: Imports all photos to the root of the home directory

2009-04-04 Thread Alistair Marshall
I can confirm that I have the same issue with Jaunty beta.

when I connect my camera (Canon digital IXUS 80 IS) to my desktop, f-spot is
not launched.
I ran f-spot using the command ``f-spot --debug f-spot.txt'' and attempted
to import manualy by
selecting import from the menu then the camera.
I got an error saying:
Error connecting to camera
Received error Could not lock the device
while connecting to camera

I then opened the camera from nautilus under computer and was invited to open
camera using f-spot
this time the import did proceed, but as the bug states, imported all my photos
into the root of the home directory and not the Photos folder like in previous
releases.

I have attached the f-spot log, if any other information is required, I would
be happy to help

2009-04-04 Thread Sandro Mani
Please do refer to my above comment:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/341463/comments/2

As said, I also do not think that the bug is only in gvfs (in fact, in my
opinion it is not a bug in the common way, but a design issue with how gvfs
deals with such problems), but it is mainly a problem with the different
backends, mainly the cifs one (cfr CIFS VFS: Unexpected lookup error -112).
The X crash is a relatively new issue, I didn't notice it before a few weeks or
so ago, while having this issue.

[Bug 354687] Re: Evolution setup assistant takes more space than available on Eee 701SD

2009-04-04 Thread Sebastien Bacher
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 8629 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/8629

the issue is known see bug #8629, the change have been optimized for 600
though which seems to be the normal screen dimension for such devices,
it might need other tweaking for your case though

** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 8629

2009-04-04 Thread Sebastien Bacher
thank you for your bug report, usually such devices at least get 600
pixel to use, it's not clear that desktop applications can easily be
adapted for such screens you might want to consider UNR or a special
mobile interface

2009-04-04 Thread Jean-luc Henry
In order to be able to reproduce it correctly, I removed any trace of f-spot:
$ rm -rf ./.gnome2/f-spot

And then I launched f-spot with Nautilus button. And as you can see on
the print-screen destination folder selected is Jlhenry (my username
and the root of my user directory: /home/jlhenry) and not Photos.

After having imported some photos, I go to Edit-Preferences and
default importation folder is Photos.

I can confirm that I have a Photos folder located in my root
(/home/jlhenry/Photos):
drwxr-xr-x  2 jlhenry jlhenry  4096 2009-04-04 09:10 Photos

[Bug 355141] [NEW] BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)

2009-04-04 Thread Jean-luc Henry
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-utils

When selecting capture the current window, gnome-screenshot crash.

Error message:
$ gnome-screenshot --interactive
The program 'gnome-screenshot' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)'.
  (Details: serial 5015 error_code 3 request_code 15 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
   that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
   To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
   option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
   backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Pickard - I changed the bug report back to public again. You shouldn't
generally make a bug report private unless there is information in it
that you don't want people to see. Making it private will severely limit
the number of people who can help you, as only the people subscribed to

[Bug 355147] [NEW] Files containing percent-encoded characters cannot be added to CD

2009-04-04 Thread Kai Jauch
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus-cd-burner

Steps to reproduce:
- Open CD/DVD Creator
- Add files or directories with url-encoded characters (e.g. %20, %21, ...) in
their names to the CD
- Click burn

Expected behaviour:
- The files and directories are successfully burned onto a CD or DVD, still
containing the url-encoded characters

Actual behaviour:
- An error message is displayed for each file or directory containing
url-encoded characters, stating that the file or directory cannot be added as
it doesn't exist

If for example the filename is test%20test, it is translated into test
test, which doesn't exist. Using Brasero directly works as expected,
nautilus-cd-burner (burn:///) does not.

[Bug 157398] Re: GNOME default DPI doesn't match X default DPI

2009-04-04 Thread Rotbart van Dainig
It seems that since Jaunty Beta, this is ignored again and there is a
default of 96 DPI (at least for both nv and nvidia) set in gconf for
LiveCD and Install.

gconftool-2 --unset /desktop/gnome/font_rendering/dpi will remove this
default value and subsequently, X-based auto-fontsize works - though in
gnome-appearance-properties, it still shows 96, no matter what. IIRC,
the latter is not the case in Fedora.

[Bug 157398] Re: GNOME default DPI doesn't match X default DPI

2009-04-04 Thread Rotbart van Dainig
It seems broken again on current Jaunty.

Steps to reproduce:

Xorg gets DPI from EDID:
(--) NVIDIA(0): DPI set to (85, 86); computed from UseEdidDpi X config
(--) NVIDIA(0): option

Appearances shows 96 DPI. Setting it to 96 keeps the default size,
setting it to 86 makes the fonts smaller.

gconftool-2 --unset /desktop/gnome/font_rendering/dpi removes the
default 96 DPI, the fonts get smaller (same size as manually setting to
86).

After logging out and in, the fonts are back to the default size (96).

** Changed in: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu)
   Status: Fix Released = Incomplete

[Bug 354729] Re: Can't drag files to bottom quarter of the screen with Gnome-Do on

2009-04-04 Thread Chonnawonga
OK, after playing around a bit more, I've realized the problem is not
with the trash. I've updated the description and summary.

To reproduce the bug,
Install Gnome-Do
Set theme to Docky
Make sure auto-hide on the Gnome-Do dock is off
Try dragging any file or folder from anywhere in Nautilus into the bottom
region of the screen (about a quarter of the way up from the bottom of the
screen)

I can't move anything into that area, which is why I couldn't put things
into the trash. Dragging doesn't work onto the desktop or into any other
folder, as long as it's within that region of the screen.

I suppose this is a big with gnome-do rather than nautilus, and the
package hint should be changed to reflect that.

** Summary changed:

- Can't drag files to trash
+ Can't drag files to bottom quarter of the screen with Gnome-Do on

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: nautilus

- Using Jaunty Beta, nothing happens when dragging a file to the trash can
- on the desktop. The icon remains on the desktop or in the nautilus
- window where it started, and nothing goes into the trash.
+ Using Jaunty Beta, while Gnome-Do is in Docky theme with auto-hide
+ off:

- Any other method of deletion still seems to work, including hitting the
- delete key, using Move to Trash on the right-click menu, and dragging
- to the trash can on the panel.
+ Nothing happens when dragging a file to the bottom corner of the
+ desktop. The icon remains on the desktop or in the nautilus window where
+ it started. Repositioning and moving into a folder (like the trash)
+ that's in that region of the screen wont' work.

** Description changed:

+ Binary package hint: gnome-do

[Bug 355180] [NEW] [jaunty] screen brightness dims on AC power despite config to leave at 100%

2009-04-04 Thread Gavin McCullagh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I have a Dell Latitude D410 laptop running the latest testing version of
Jaunty.

While I'm typing here, I have the laptop on AC power. I find the screen
keeps dimming down to about 60%. I then use the hotkey to brighten the
screen up again. Within a minute or two it has dimmed back down again.

The power management settings On AC power are set to

 Put computer to sleep when inactive: Never
 When laptop is closed: blank screen
 Put display to sleep when inactive for: 15 minutes
 Set display brightness to: 100%
 Dim display when idle: unchecked

On Battery Power:

 Put computer to sleep when inactive: Never
 When laptop is closed: blank screen
 When battery power is critically low: Shutdown
 Put display to sleep when inactive for: 11 minutes
 Reduce backlight brightness: checked
 Dim display when idle: checked

The gnome tray applet confirms that I do have AC power on.

This problem is consistently irritating. I'm in a bright room and
really need the full backlight.

I'm struggling to understand what the issue is here. Based on the
assumption that this is a problem with free disk space, please provide
the output of df -h, and also please provide a screenshot of the issue
that you are seeing.

Thanks

[Bug 345318] Re: Brightness control is slow and not costant with 90-Add-guarded-brightness-stepping-functions.patch 91-Using-guarded-and-scaled-stepping-when-dimming.patch

2009-04-04 Thread polybart
Here is the output from lshal for my backlight:

udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/computer_backlight'
  info.addons = {'hald-addon-generic-backlight'} (string list)
  info.capabilities = {'laptop_panel'} (string list)
  info.category = 'laptop_panel'  (string)
  info.interfaces = {'org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.LaptopPanel'} (string list)
  info.parent = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/computer'  (string)
  info.product = 'Generic Backlight Device' (string)
  info.subsystem = 'backlight'  (string)
  info.udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/computer_backlight'  (string)
  laptop_panel.access_method = 'general'  (string)
  laptop_panel.num_levels = 10  (0xa)  (int)
  linux.hotplug_type = 2  (0x2)  (int)
  linux.subsystem = 'backlight'  (string)
  linux.sysfs_path = '/sys/devices/platform/acer-wmi/backlight/acer-wmi'
(string)

The num_level is correctly detected as 10 steps. I'm assuming this is
how gpm gets its number of steps, before adjusting for macbooks via the
new patch that is.
