[Bug 356044] [NEW] gnome-panel crashes when firefox is open to a particular page

2009-04-06 Thread Robin Sheat
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Opening this URL:
http://blog.oup.com/2009/03/science-fiction/
in firefox, on a completely up-to-date Ubuntu 8.10 install crashes gnome-panel.

I've had a couple of other people reproduce this. Note: depending on the
nature of the bug, it is possibly a security issue. It is causing gnome-
panel to segfault and depending on what exactly is doing that, it is
feasible that it's exploitable.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.10

Package: gnome-panel 1:2.24.1-0ubuntu2.1

[Bug 333366] Re: new nautilus window stays in background

2009-04-06 Thread Zied ALAYA
I don't think it's nautilus.

some times when I have firefox open and maximized, if I open a new
window the window is open but don't show up.

try this: open firefox, alt-F10, open gedit, copy some thing from
firefox to the gedit document, come back to firefox and now open your
home folder from Places. The new window will be in the background.

but I think it's not nautilus, if you see the attatchment, when I click
to view appointments and tasks I have the same behavior.

[Bug 356081] [NEW] x2x Mouse stuck in corner

2009-04-06 Thread Willem Ligtenberg
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 337926 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/337926

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: x2x

My mouse pointer is stuck in the upper left corner of the computer that
does not have the mouse and keyboard attached. The mouse and keyboard
work fine on the computer which has them attached.

This is how I use x2x:

From the computer with mouse and keyboard I ssh -X to my laptop. (I want
to control the laptop with the keyboard and mouse from the desktop
computer) There in the ssh I type: x2x -to :0 -west

This has worked for me while using ubuntu 8.10. However upgrading to
jaunty 9.04, the mouse got stuck in the upper left corner of the laptop.

The keyboard however works fine. Both computers run 9.04 ubuntu.

Version: 1.27.svn.20060501-4 (according to ubuntu)

I have tried it also with new x2x versions from the website both 1.27
and 1.30beta. But it still persists.

This bug might be related to:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vino/+bug/337926
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-mouse/+bug/321444

After reading those bug descriptions I think it is the same bug.
However, I will file this bug and mark it as a duplicate, since x2x users might
find this bug report more quickly than the others.

[Bug 356084] [NEW] libsndfile1 1.0.17-4ubuntu0.8.04.1 breaks rythmbox playback on ubuntu hardy

2009-04-06 Thread Anton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Today, playback from rhythmbox suddenly did not work anymore; it worked
fine last friday. This is for mp3 files, I did not try other types
(don't have them handy).

After reverting libsndfile1 back from 1.0.17-4ubuntu0.8.04.1 (hardy-
updates) to 1.0.17-4 (hardy), playback functionality is restored. (I
have not checked other players).

Synaptic history reports:

Commit Log for Wed Apr 1 09:49:18 2009
Upgraded the following packages:
libsndfile1 (1.0.17-4) to 1.0.17-4ubuntu0.8.04.1

I would not expect an update of a library to break core functionality
(reading soundfiles!).

I'm running ubuntu hardy (2.6.24-21-generic), fully updated. rhythmbox
0.11.5-0ubuntu8.
Please let me know if you need further details about this problem.

(P.S., I filed this agains libsndfile1 as well, see

[Bug 356083] [NEW] rhythmbox repeatedly searches for plugins

2009-04-06 Thread ThiloPfennig
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

If I import a directory again, sometimes rhythmbox does find non-music
files or files which are differently coded. It then starts to search for
plugins for these files. So far so good. The problem is that if it does
not find a plugin it does not remember that. So it would search for it
10.000 times if it finds it 10.000 times. I recommend a memory of
searches. It may make sense to search again sometimes if a new
repository was added. OTOH it should recognize that files that are not
text are not opened with rhythmbox.

[Bug 356044] Re: gnome-panel crashes when firefox is open to a particular page

2009-04-06 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 123460] Re: Rhythmbox:Error while saving song information:Internal GStreamer problem

2009-04-06 Thread Per Ångström
Are you sure this will not only suppress the error message? I think the
15-second timeout I found actually kills the metadata operation
prematurely. You cannot trust the metadata displayed by Rhythmbox after
a metadata operation, since Rhythmbox will update its display
immediately without waiting for the operation to finish.

[Bug 356127] [NEW] Doesn't play inserted audio CD's

2009-04-06 Thread Shahar Or
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Dear interested parties,

When an audio CD is inserted, a dialog pops up asking how to open it.
Rhythmbox is selected by default and OK is clicked.

What happens then is that Rhythmbox is launched but it doesn't start
playing the audio CD.

Manual start of the playing of the audio CD is required.

I expect that in this case, where Rhythmbox is launched from the dialog
which asks me how to open the audio CD, that Rhythmbox will not only be
launched, but it will start playing the audio CD.

Many blessings.

[Bug 339187] Re: mixer_applet2 often gets in 100% cpu use scenerio

2009-04-06 Thread David Nielsen
That won't even workaround it, eventually it will get into that pattern
again and joyfully continue it's 100% cpu load madness when I turn my
back and leave the room. Regardless because of the poor way Ubuntu
handles bugs and other personal reason I have switched to Fedora so
please request further information from Hardik Dalwadi

[Bug 333608] Re: deskbar-applet crashed with SIGSEGV in PyType_IsSubtype()

2009-04-06 Thread Vassily Gavrilyak
With latest updates of python etc. deskbar-applet crashed again on my laptop,
but works on another, where it didn't work before.
So it works either on this laptop or on another, not on both. But running
deskbar from command line as /usr/lib/deskbar-applet/deskbar-applet and then
adding it to panel works.

[Bug 343261] Re: No notification on audio changes (Play, Pause, Next, Previous)

2009-04-06 Thread Damiano Dallatana
Well, solving bug #345363 and bug #351986 did remove completely the
notification for audio change notification in g-s-d 2.26.0-0ubuntu3.
In the notify-OSD specs ([1]) there is still the description of the hotkey
notification system, but now it is in fact not working at all by default.
I did think the desired behaviour for notify-osd was to follow the written
specs...

[Bug 345363] Re: [jaunty] Next track notification appears even if nothing listening

2009-04-06 Thread Damiano Dallatana
While it is evident that this bug is solved with latest fix, it does
introduce a regression against the desired behaviour of notify-osd in the specs
page. Now the hotkey actions are not notified at all (again, bug #343261).
The scope of this particular bug was only to make g-s-d wait for a program to
listen and act at a hotkey action before making notify-osd show a confirmation
notification.
