[Bug 372553] [NEW] Top right hand corner of all windows - no minimise, maximise, close

2009-05-06 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Ok, so i just upgraded to 9.04. while upgrading i lost power (to my
entire house). When i turned my computer back on, Windows was working
fine (dual booting) but linux was having SERIOUS issues.

Thankfully i got ubuntu working again.. but i had to do the upgrade in
CTRL ALT F1 environment...

Everything seemed fine after i restarted my computer... i got the GUI
working again, and it was all looking dandy (minus the fact the
minimise, max, and close options wheren't showing up). Next i did

Sudo update
sudo upgrade

in terminal to finish anything that didn't get done when the GUI wasn't
working. (Something about dpkg error... in the CTRL ALT F1
environment )

Got everything up to date and restarted my computer.

Still no minimise, maximise, close

so i did Sudo update, sudo upgrade again, and it came back with no
results...

Now im stuck

[Bug 372571] Re: evolution stopped working after recent updates.

2009-05-06 Thread Steven Susbauer
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How
to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

If clicking the icon ni the menu bar does not open Evolution, please run
the command evolution (without quotation marks) in a terminal window
and post the terminal output, along with the other requested items (and
anything else that may assist in diagnosing the problem).

Thanks!

2009-05-06 Thread Steven Susbauer
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

2009-05-06 Thread StephanBeal
A related problem: after switching back to classic mode, all windows try
to start up maximized. To fix this, one has to disable the Maximus (in
Startup Apps) or open up the gconf editor, search for maximize, and
disable the property found under maximus (i don't have the netbook
with me, so i can't verify the config key name).

[Bug 191889] Re: [MASTER] [WORKAROUND] Offline Mode feature fails to detect proper online state for networks that are managed outside of network manager.

2009-05-06 Thread Jeremy Wilkins
Ok, it was reported in February, now it is well into May, Jaunty has
been released already. Has anyone even tried to fix this? I think the
about:config workaround above does seem to fix it for Firefox, but is
there a reason why we shouldn't just force that as a default or if that
isn't feasible to permit browsing to the local loopback/net addresses at
least regardless of network status? NetworkManager does many great
things, but making programs dependent upon it is ridiculous. It doesn't
always know if a particular address will be available or not. If I am
travelling and I do not have a network connection Firefox prevents me
from browsing to localhost. That is plain stupid! Konqueror browses to
localhost just fine without a network. I am running Jaunty with the
latest updates installed, but it still isn't fixed.

2009-05-06 Thread ZioNemo
Sorry,
I DO want to help, but I do ot understand.
The instructions seems to be about how to debug a program I can launch.
The error comes *before* I can launch any program, as part of the normal

What should I do.
I can try starting X and gnome-session by hand at the console, but I strongly
suspect this would change things a bit.

Please Advise.

[Bug 153882] Re: Evince should not always remember all printing options

2009-05-06 Thread Francesco Potortì
The bug is still there in Ubuntu 9.10, with Evince 2.24.1. From a
user's point of view this is a regression.

After Evince is closed and reopened, some printing options are remembered when
they should not. Specifically, these are remembered:
- print whole document / current page
- number of pages per side

The symptoms are the same as the bugs previously reported.

And no, this is not a wishlist, but a serious user interface bug. You
don't want to reexamine all printing options every time you print a page
from Evince.

2009-05-06 Thread wdesmet
@paul beardsell: that sets the window manager back to metacity instead
of compiz which is why it works again.

The 'about' option on the workspace switcher states:

It allows you to do no such thing now. IMHO this is a bug and not a

[Bug 372324] Re: Notebook does not suspend - not a kernel- but a design problem

2009-05-06 Thread dl9sau
I traced now the problem down: there seems no dependency to another problem
telling that an application asks for prepending the resume.
Hot-Fix: if you still like to keep your system gnome and like to use the
integration with gnome-power-manager:
killall -TERM gnome-power-manager; gnome-power-manager
gnome-power-manager needs to be fixed.
It seems not to store the situation in any file. If it resist to accept the
resume because it thinks it would be wrong (which was'nt, in my case), then the
restart of the program helps. The new proces knows anything about the decisions
of his ancestors.

[Bug 44989] Re: Doesn't print (large) PDF files

2009-05-06 Thread kikl
Well, this problem was first reported in 2006, three years ago. The
proposed solution appears to be straightforward. Evince could simply use
lpr for printing adobe files. For the application evince, it's a huge
bug, because pdf is the standard document format and printing pdfs
should be supported flawlessly by a document viewer. For Ubuntu, it's an
important problem too since, hey, evince is the standard document viewer
shipped with Ubuntu. Viewing and printing pdf documents is something I
do quite a lot. I hope the responsible developers address this problem
sooner than later ;-)

Regards,

kikl

I started a terminal session and than launched the start script (included) from

[Bug 372609] [NEW] problem getting emails from web.de

2009-05-06 Thread Ratte
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

problem getting emails from web.de since I downgrade from ubuntu 9.04 back to
8.10. The sytem 8.10 is actually installed on a fresh formated new partition,
but the evolution database (and all other data on /home/USER/*) remains the
same!
there is now a mismatch of columns reported between evolution folder and the
received web.de-folder.

Deleting and reinstalling doesn't work because even if I use a new
evolution account name, evolution remembers all my old emails from the
former deleted account including the mismatch problem.

How can I reconfigure the table to match the columns?

@Sebastien,

Step to reproduce the bug (Please correct me if i am wrong):

*Make custom launcher of gnome-system-monitor to launch as root*

- Right Click on Gnome Panel to launch panel manu - click on Add
Panel to launch

- Select Custom Application Launcher, fill it as below.
  Name: gnome-system-monitor
  Command: sudo gnome-system-monitor
Comment: Try to launch gnome-system-monitor as root using SUDO
- Click on Ok

Note:
It should create new launcher with custom launcher icon on Gnome-Panel
Now, try to click on that that two three times, It should not freeze you
X-Session.

Observation:
In my case i am not able to duplicate this issue on 9.04 with latest updates.

[Bug 43644] Re: time-admin shows different time zone when it is restarted

2009-05-06 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package system-tools-backends - 2.6.0-6ubuntu1

---
system-tools-backends (2.6.0-6ubuntu1) karmic; urgency=low

  * Merge with Debian unstable; Remaining Ubuntu changes:
- Some patches, see their tag headers for details:
  + 00git-format-strings.patch
  + 00git-policy-i18n.patch
  + 08_rosetta_translations.patch
  + 61_cleanup-pid-file.patch
  + 99_autoreconf.patch (for the changes in 00git-policy-i18n.patch)
  + Drop 60_fix-permissions-of-pid-file.patch, superseded by
00git-format-strings.patch.
  * Debian's cleanup of 01_debian_4.0.patch also fixed operation for Karmic.
(LP: #371234)
  * Add 06_check_etc_timezone.patch: Check /etc/timezone instead of
/etc/localtime, to fix zones being misreported as some other zone. Thanks,
Michael Terry! (LP: #43644)

system-tools-backends (2.6.0-6) unstable; urgency=low

  * 01_debian_4.0.patch: completely remove all the brain-dead version
logic. The Debian version corresponds to the version the package is
shipped in, that’s all.
  * Standards version is 3.8.1.
  * Point to versioned GPL in the copyright.

system-tools-backends (2.6.0-5) unstable; urgency=low

  [ Michael Biebl ]
  * debian/control{.in}
- Add Vcs-* fields.
- Add Homepage field.
- Add dependency on dbus (= 1.1.2) which is required for D-Bus system bus
  activation (i.e. start-on-demand).

  [ Josselin Mouette ]
  * Remove dependency on adduser. Closes: #519366.
  * 01_debian_4.0.patch: update for the new string in
/etc/debian_version. Closes: #519773.
+ Make it also understand 6.0 in preparation for squeeze.

system-tools-backends (2.6.0-4) unstable; urgency=low

  * 05_cve_2008_4311.patch: new patch, based on the patch by Simon
McVittie for the lenny Branch. Specify permissions with
send_destination instead of send_interface. Makes backends work with
the dbus packages fixing CVE-2008-4311. Closes: #510744.

system-tools-backends (2.6.0-3) experimental; urgency=low

  [ Loic Minier ]
  * Don't rm_conffile /etc/dbus-1/event.d/70system-tools-backends during first
configuration.

  [ Josselin Mouette ]
  * Build-depend on libpolkit-dbus-dev for PolicyKit support.
  * Make other build-dependencies up-to-date.
  * Break gnome-system-tools  2.22.1-1.
  * 03_default_permissions.patch: removed, useless with PolicyKit.
  * Install the policy.
  * Remove the init script, the dispatcher is correctly started on
demand in the PolicyKit-enabled code path. Closes: #423903.
  * Remove the init script and symbolic links in the preinst.
  * system-tools-backends.1: fix typo. Closes: #482198.
  * system-tools-backends.postinst: removed, we don’t need stb-admin
anymore and we don’t need to reload dbus to make it start the
daemon.
  * Don’t pass --with-stb-group to the configure flags.

[Bug 371739] Re: Fast scrolling with continuous mode enabled results in garbage inside the window

2009-05-06 Thread Valentin Neacsu
Update: I'm using a laptop with an external monitor. Laptop resolution
is 1024x768, external VGA monitor resolution is 1280x1024. When I try to
scroll an evince window inside the laptop display everything works
smoothly. When I move the window to the external screen the above
mentioned symptoms appear. I've also experimented with Nautilus
scrolling a large window (/dev/) and, although it's a lot less
noticeable, the tearing exemplified is still present. I'm pretty sure
this isn't related to evince but evince is best at showing these tears.

[Bug 372592] Re: Update to Totem 2.26.2

2009-05-06 Thread Martin Pitt
Also, debdiffs are painful for new upstream versions. For packages which
aren't in bzr, attaching the package's diff.gz is better. For bzr
packages, just committing the change and linking the branch (which
happens automatically if you use debcommit) is sufficient.

Subscribed ubuntu-main-sponsors for karmic upload, unsubscribed ubuntu-
sru. Robert, please don't sub ubuntu-sru on new bugs. SRU requests
shuold be done on existing bugs, such as 372592.

Also, in order for a bug to be eligible for SRU, it needs to match the
SRU criteria. Please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates
for how to request an SRU. Thank you!

[Bug 340515] Re: Consumes all CPU, logs a lot of output

2009-05-06 Thread Jonathan Lozinski
I noticed this and it took me a while to find what was responsible. For
me when viewing processes in system monitor there was an un-named
process which kept respawning, dieing and creating a new process every
second or so.

I tracked it to vino-server. I think the problem with eating processor
must relate to some threading code.

[Bug 288052] Re: /etc/resolv.conf inserts commas between Search Domains

2009-05-06 Thread aglet
I think this might be addressed with a patch to /sbin/dhclient-script
(provided by dhcp3-client) to remove the commas.

Not sure whether http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc3397.txt is relevant or not

[Bug 372647] [NEW] Clock and Weather applet don't show any weather info

2009-05-06 Thread atos
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

It is a freshly installed Ubuntu 9.04 (64 bit) laptop.
On the UI Clock (2.26.0) applet seems to provide more space for the weather
info (as it is a bit wider)
but no weather and temperature are displayed.
For a 2nd test I configured Weather Report (2.26.0). Its tooltip says
Updating... and after a while Retrieval failed.

- I have already uninstalled gnome-panel (1:2.26.0-0ubuntu7) and installed
again.
- I have already tested with a new user account.
- My timezone (Europe/Budapest) is the same as the location set in both applets.
None of these helped.

I moved from a 8.04 desktop where Clock was working perfect...
Any help is highly appreciated.
