[Bug 369587] Re: Totem (Ubuntu 9.04 i386) has poor audio playback while playing video.
I also have a Dell B130 laptop and MP3's skip occasionally with Totem. It is much worse with VLC. It happens when there is some other heavy i/o, e.g. the 'deferred triggers' stage of a package install. -- Totem (Ubuntu 9.04 i386) has poor audio playback while playing video. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/369587 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to totem in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 197762] Re: file transfers on USB disk are very slow
Hi Lucas, I noticed everything goes fine until the memory gets full, then starts the swapping and the slowdown. It's like the memory is used as buffer, when that runs out it uses the virtual memory on the HD. No problem with small sizes that fit the memory but when you select 100 GB at once ... then the HD starts writing to itself fairly rapidly. When AHCI was enabled the memory gets used to but strangely enough it does not use the virtual memory (NCQ?). As you stated the NCQ may prevents the HD from playing with itself. It may not be the main problem (that's why I didn't file a bug) but I'm fairly sure some people have IDE selected or only have IDE in their BIOS. I only thought it was worth mentioning how I solved my problem because I read very similar stories to mine here. It could be good to know if they are using a PATA or SATA drive as source. Once you filter those out you can narrow down to the real problem. -- file transfers on USB disk are very slow https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/197762 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 373574] [NEW] Movie Player hangs after playing for a few seconds
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: totem Ubuntu 8.04 powerpc. Totem Movie Player. Alsa v.19 Up until the system update of 5 May 2009 totem worked fine. Following this update totem and vlc both hang after a variable number of seconds of playing. This is similar to what happens on a powerpc when 8.04 + alsa is first installed and was solved up to this point by installing alsa v.19. (known bug in alsa v.15, fixed in v.16) I re-installed the latest version of alsa but to no avail. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. [Bug 145152] Re: [gutsy] Pictures folder shows all pictures in $HOME
I hope it's not too late to comment on this. I'm on Jaunty. I wandered back to my computer at work the other day to find it flashing scans of cleared checks, the member roster from my union Local, and member tax forms. Not cool. These are scans, which are pictures, which is why I saved them in my Pictures folder. Is there a way either to remove Pictures Folder from gnome-screensaver, or limit it to tagged pictures, as the F-Spot screensaver is limited to tagged Favorites. Aside from sensitive financial records, what if I want to have naked pictures of Salma Hayek - or better yet Barrack Obama - in my Pictures folder, but I don't want my co-workers seeing them? I can probably edit hidden config files, but the average newbie who sets his/her screensaver to randomize won't know that it's going to happen ahead of time, and won't know how to fix it after the fact. To Ted's point, this isn't really a bug, it's how it is supposed to work. So can I make this a feature request instead of a bug report? Either modify Pictures Folder so as to guarantee users' privacy, or remove it from gnome-screensaver. [Bug 373445] Re: Detect PDF/A document
No I don't have any rendering issue. But PDF/A has become an international standard for the long-term archiving of electronic documents (from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PDF/A). For example in Italy this format is required by many public organizations (Trade Bureau and many others). So it's important to know when a document is conforming to the standard, and knowing that it is a PDF-1.4 is too generic. Moreover, it should be simple to determine the PDF/A compliance, since the PDF contains a special metadata for this. If you open the attached PDF with a simple text editor, you can find this: (note the xmlns:pdfaid=http://www.aiim.org/pdfa/ns/id/; namespace, as stated in wikipedia article) 21 0 obj /Type/Metadata/Subtype/XML/Length 3072 stream ?xpacket begin= id=W5M0MpCehiHzreSzNTczkc9d? x:xmpmeta xmlns:x=adobe:ns:meta/ rdf:RDF xmlns:rdf=http://www.w3.org/1999/02/22-rdf-syntax-ns#; rdf:Description rdf:about= xmlns:pdfaid=http://www.aiim.org/pdfa/ns/id/; pdfaid:part1/pdfaid:part pdfaid:conformanceA/pdfaid:conformance /rdf:Description rdf:Description rdf:about= xmlns:dc=http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/; dc:creator rdf:Seq rdf:liDavide Capodaglio/rdf:li /rdf:Seq /dc:creator /rdf:Description rdf:Description rdf:about= xmlns:pdf=http://ns.adobe.com/pdf/1.3/; pdf:ProducerOpenOffice.org 3.1/pdf:Producer /rdf:Description rdf:Description rdf:about= xmlns:xmp=http://ns.adobe.com/xap/1.0/; xmp:CreatorToolWriter/xmp:CreatorTool xmp:CreateDate2009-05-08T11:39:29+02:00/xmp:CreateDate /rdf:Description /rdf:RDF /x:xmpmeta -- Detect PDF/A document https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/373445 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evince in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
