[Bug 376793] [NEW] HP 2140 Lid Close Not Detected

2009-05-15 Thread Jeremy Nickurak
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Nothing occurs in response to closing the lid on the HP 2140.
/proc/acpi/

/proc/acpi/button/lid/C1C4/state correctly reads either

state: open
 or
state: closed

depending on the state of the lid. Gnome-power-manager is set to suspend
on lid close when running on batteries (which I am). Suspend works
correctly when used manually (selecting suspend from the quit/logout
dialog)

[Bug 346806] Re: gnome-system-monitor does not always show all processes

2009-05-15 Thread M. Qadri
I don't know if this a relevant comment to toss into the mix, but a
sudo gnome-system-monitor shows all the other processes that are
probably daemons and anything run in sudo, as far as I can tell. I find
no sudo in my process list in non-sudo-ed gnome-system-monitor. For sake
of simplicity, I suppose this works, protecting sudoed processes, but
maybe it's be better to have sudoed processes be view-only on a regular
gnome-system-monitor, and a gksudo be called if someone wants to stop
one of those processes?

[Bug 376819] [NEW] evince crashes in memcpy rendering .ps file

2009-05-15 Thread Chris Moore
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

attempting to display https://www.muug.mb.ca/ifest/CAN_IF_MB.ps in
evince crashes it. Sometimes straight away, and sometimes only after
scrolling down a bit.

installing evince-dbg and running in valgrind shows:

==9717== Invalid read of size 1
==9717==at 0x4027CBC: memcpy (mc_replace_strmem.c:402)
==9717==by 0x4C0AE8D: (within /usr/lib/libX11.so.6.2.0)

==9717==by 0x491AF03: (within /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2.10800.6)

see attachment for the full valgrind output. evince didn't crash when
run under valgrind, but the display is messed up.

This may be a duplicate of other 'evince crashes in memcpy' bugs, but the
backtrace looks different, so I'm not sure.

[Bug 376824] [NEW] ever slowing access to large mail folders (solved with maildir trick)

2009-05-15 Thread Uqbar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

When folders approach 2+GB data and 15+K messages, all activities which involve
folders access become slower and slower,
taking tens of seconds also during message retrieval with POP3.
The larger the folder content, the slower the access.
I argued it was because of folder implementation as mbox files.
Thus I applied a trick to store all email in maildir format
(https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+question/56412)
and it's now working great (with XFS file system).
There should be a way to define folders are maildirs natively (that is with
no trick) if not eliminating the mbox format completely.

[Bug 376838] [NEW] I can't see my custom keyboard layout in Jaunty

2009-05-15 Thread Dmitry Khokhlov
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

On Ubuntu Intrepid I configured Russian keyboard layout called Diktor
(it is made on the same principles as Dworak and it is a good idea to
include it an standart layouts). And it was working well. But when I
updated to Jaunty, xkb begin to bring up window with error on every boot
and I can't see Diktor layout in gnome-keyboard-properties on layouns
tab. It is also disappeared in among russian layouts when I try to add
layout. My be this is xkb issue. I don't know. I attach my
/usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/ru file where Diktor layout is descriebed.
Diktor layout variant tag in /etc/X11/xkb/base.xml seems to be ok,
because when I revert gnome-keyboard-properties to standart settings (so
only English layout remains) error on startup desappears.

[Bug 326158] Re: Root terminal doesn't start

2009-05-15 Thread Russel Winder
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 328575 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/328575

This misses the use case reported elsewhere
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gconf2/+bug/328575) of having
super user terminals a different colour to normal terminals. This
incredibly useful feature used to work fine all the way up until and
including Intrepid. Jaunty broke this without any form of notification.

No-onw appears yet to have explained why the change was necessary, nor
what the new way is of achieving the use case that users clearly want to
use and have been used to having.

This morning is a be grumpy morning.

[Bug 376847] [NEW] [keyboard applet] session starts with wrong layout when layout the same for all applications

2009-05-15 Thread Lionel Dricot
Public bug reported:

using GNOME 2.26 on Ubuntu 9.04.

I'm using two layouts : Belgian Azerty (Bel) and French Bépo (Fra). I've
unchecked the different layout for different window. I want to use Fra nearly
all the time. I applied it to the sysem.

1) As soon as this different window option is unchecked, there's no way
anymore to set a default keyboard. It's logical.

2) When I start the computer, GDM is in Fra. Nice.

3) When my session starts, the keyboard indicator applet says Fra. But the
actual keys are in Bel. *bug*

4) Clicking on the applet doesn't work at all. The text stays Fra and the
layout stays Bel. *bug*

5) Right clic on the applet group French Bépo. Now the layout is Fra. And
the applet is working again, I can change layout by clicking on it.

This means that I have to do step 5) at each logon!

6) Might be related : when checking the different layout for different window
box, it appears that Bel is the default layout.

[Bug 344198] Re: .ppsx (Office 2007 slideshows) files not recognized

2009-05-15 Thread Taco
Somebody just sent me a PPSX file and I ran into the same issue (using
Jaunty up-to-date as of today).

According to Wikipedia[1] PPSX is a Microsoft Office 2007 XML Show
document. Ubuntu recognizes it as a ZIP file. If I change the extension
to PPTX, it's associated with OpenOffice.org Presentation. If I open it,
I still have to select a filter however. Selecting the Microsoft
Powerpoint 2007 XML filter opens it successfully.

Proposal: associate PPSX with OpenOffice.org Presentation just like PPTX
because OO.org can open the file type.
Caveat: I don't know anything about Microsoft Office so I might be wrong. But
in that case this bug could be closed as WONTSOLVE.

[Bug 376445] Re: Empty trash button still disabled when trash contains files.

2009-05-15 Thread Sergey Fukanchik
What icon theme do you use?
The name of theme is in russian and corresponding word in English will be
Clearance.
The code probably check the icon to update the display but should not rely on
 that to update the button
Trashapplet does exactly this. It checks if it's own current icon of trashcan
is the same as trashcan's. And uses itemcount to update tooltip.

Unfortunately after restarting nautilus (logout/login) i have no this
issue. Will wait until it happens again.

I wrote simple code (attaching) to check icon name but obviously now it
shows that all is ok.

[Bug 376881] [NEW] GTK2/Gnome: File-Selector takes 30 seconds to open up

2009-05-15 Thread Stefan Fendt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libgtk2.0-0

After upgrading to Ubuntu 9.04:

For any GTK2 and Gnome Application: If I try to open a file (that is the
GTK2-File-Selector should appear), it takes about 25-30 seconds until
the file-dialogue really opens. Top says that the CPU usage is
negligible while waiting for the dialogue. The system seems to just do
nothing during that time.

Theme is default, that is: Human. But I tried other themes as well with
the same result.

This one is a real bad one (to my opinion) as it affects the usability
of dozens of programs to near unusability. Machine here is a DualCore
AMD X2 3800+ 4GB Ram.

In short:
==

Expected: Opening of the GTK2-Fileselector in fractions of a second (as
it was before)

What happend: Takes a time-period of at least 25 seconds until it opens.
