[Bug 384200] [NEW] Edit button in tasks field of date/time drop-down doesn't work

2009-06-06 Thread Ryan Li
Public bug reported:

I have my evolution deleted, and use Tasks(package:tasks) as a
substitution for tasks management. However, when I clicked the edit
button in the tasks field of date/time drop-down, nothing happens. It
used to open evolution for editing the tasks. Now I want gnome-panel to
open tasks, but nothing is initiated.

Perhaps there should be an option for user to choose which application
as the default tasks manager?

Using Ubuntu 9.04 with gnome-panel 1:2.26.0-0ubuntu7.

Someone needs to look at the code responsible for it and see what they
can find. IMHO it's pretty obvious there's something funky going on when
you're using remote X, whether in LTSP or not.

I confirm as well on 9.04, happens with iso's created with DeVeDe and

Right-click on iso and select 'Open with Archive Mounter'.
Confirm it does not effect directory names.

Re: [Bug 383971] Re: Problem playing video

2009-06-06 Thread Ted
Which file do you need?

The funny thing is that even if I try to use visualizaton in Rhythmbox
0.12.0 the program crashes.
Do all these programs use a common program or a library in the system which
is corrupted or not working properly?
Or can be my graphic card the source of my problems? (I use a graphic card
on my motherboard which is not very powerful.)

[Bug 105685] Re: Totem's menu entry should read Totem Movie Player

2009-06-06 Thread Siegfried Gevatter
Thanks for your interest in helping improve Ubuntu. I agree with you
that this is a bug, but, as Sebastien stated, it's inconvenient to do
this change in Ubuntu because of the additional translation work and
divergence from upsteam rit creates.

This doesn't mean it can't be done, but it'd really be better if this
could be achieved upstream; maybe raising the topic on GNOME's desktop-
devel-list, as suggested in the last comment of
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=331919, would move the matter
forward and help reach a distribution-wide consensus.

For the songs Badass and Never Be Free, by Garbage, I am unable to
edit the properties info- the Genre keeps resetting to Unknown, no
matter how many times I set it to Alternative. I tried setting the
permissions on the file, and I checked the tags with EasyTag and VLC,
and the tags are what I want them to be.

So far, these are the only files with this behaviour.

Ubuntu 9.04
rhytmbox 0.12.0-0ubuntu4

Expected: Changes to song info (genre, album, etc.) applied.
Actual: Changes applied, then revert to original, incorrect data after apppox.
5 seconds.

[Bug 84278] Re: infinite loop with PrintScreen

2009-06-06 Thread booboo
I have the same bug on a laptop

HP Pavilion ze4200 ubuntu 9.04

As a workaround, I moved the gnome-screenshot to gnome-screenshot-real
and creted a shell script in place of gnome-screenshot :

The script is

echo Bug gnome-screenshot | logger

Like this i can see if the bug is happening again

Then in the log I see that my script is called 700 times, but I cannot
find what is the key that repeat indefinitly

I tried xev, but I cannot find the key

I'll keep you in touch here, this is very annoying bug

Re: [Bug 105685] Re: Totem's menu entry should read Totem Movie Player

2009-06-06 Thread Alexander Jones
Upstream has /absolutely/ no intention of doing this. Their interpretation
of the Desktop Entry Spec is basically along the lines of how we want the
menu to look, which is the reason we have applications named such delights
as Take Screenshot.

The only way this is ever gonna be fixed is if Ubuntu decides to enforce an
actual, coherent application naming policy. People including myself have
been wanting this for years but it is clear our translation framework is not
as efficient as, say, Facebook's (they have a full translation into Pirate,
for god's sake!), so we're just admitting defeat and saying it's too much
translation work.

Frankly, it's a minor annoyance at best and while little warts of ugly like
this do threaten the overall polished feel of our OS, we do indeed have
bigger fish to fry and arguing with the gods that be about this is just a
waste of breath.

[Bug 378592] Re: py-gobject crash on subclasses

2009-06-06 Thread poelzi
sorry that i have to knock on this again.

- the bug is not low as it causes SEGFAULT in a skripting languge, something
NEVER should happen.
- the 2.16 release is so broken, that the most obvious things don't work like
subclassing, wtf... something worked always good
- this bug affects many software, not just pida.

THIS IS A MAJOR BUG

so, now the question.
why is there no fix in jaunty updates ?

i already put in a http://pida.co.uk/trac/wiki/FrequentlyAskedQuestions
so people may find out why it is unstable, but will most likely blame
us.

Ohh, i forgott, i could put some really ugly workaround in there with a
note:

Hey, this totally sucks but ubuntu doesn't like to fix obvious, severe
bugs. They prefer to put the broken upstream ones in place.

NO NO NO, i will not do it. If you lucky I will say, install python-central,
python-gobject and some other stuff from karmic and you will not get the
crashes anymore

[Bug 359975] evince sometimes yield error Error printing: Too many failed attempts

2009-06-06 Thread vocx

Umang

The solution you pointed out is far from complete.
The blog post refers to Ubuntu 8.10. The new configuration file may be
different. It seems more like bug #283811

The current bug seems to have (re-)appeared during the beta versions of
Ubuntu 9.04.

I suggest you let the developers track this problem in a better way.

For reference, a forum thread is here

[Bug 384163] Re: rhythmbox 0.12.2 stops when a song ends

2009-06-06 Thread Hew McLachlan
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and trying to help make
Ubuntu better. However, it seems that you are not using a software
package provided by the official Ubuntu repositories. Because of this
the Ubuntu project can not support or fix your particular bug. Please
report this bug to the provider of the software package. Thanks!

Rhythmbox 0.12.2 is not included in Jaunty, but is with Karmic. If you
are able to reproduce this issue with Ubuntu Karmic using the version of
Rhythmbox obtained from the official archive, feel free to reopen this
bug. Thanks again.

If you are interested in learning more about software repositories and
Ubuntu the following pages should be informative:

[Bug 174809] Re: Nautilus using more and more memory (depending on the system up-time)

2009-06-06 Thread Motin
I just moved around a lot of files between external hard drives, around
400 GB all in all. It took all night, and now I have unmounted all
drives and thought I would be able to work as usual, but the system is
slow and unresponsive. Nautilus takes up a whopping 1.6 gb resident, and
2.9gb all in all (so 1.3 gb in swap).

Extract from top:
PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEMTIME+ COMMAND

 5247 motin 20 0 2957m 1.6g 4972 S0 47.6 69:54.49 nautilus

 1115 motin 20 0 765m 473m 10m S4 13.4 113:13.34 firefox

I guess nautilus somewhere has cached the file lists of all transferred
files or similar, and hasn't released this memory even though even the
drives are unmounted and disconnected.

Attaching the output of pmap `pidof nautilus`. I have saved a the
contents of the files in /proc/`pidof nautilus`/ as well in case
something else needs to be attached (Please tell me what else is needed)

[Bug 384291] Re: Brasero unable to burn a disk with Linux Mint 7

2009-06-06 Thread Schily
Your report does not contain a hint to the problem you observe.
For this reason, it is not possible to give help based on your
report.

However, many problems in brasero these days are a result
of not using the original cdrtools software but a fork called
wodim / cdrkit. I recommend you to manually remove
wodim, genisoimage and any related file and symlink and then
to install the official software from:

ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/cdrecord/alpha/

see http://cdrecord.berlios.de

This fixes all problems caused by the fork.

[Bug 135548] Re: [Gutsy] Action on critical battery isn't triggered - regression

2009-06-06 Thread DervishD
My laptop does indeed hibernate (or suspend) succesfully, but last night
I forgot to plug the AC power and let the laptop on. It didn't
hibernate.

The problem, just in case anybody is having it, is that the time
profiles are very optimistic in my machine, probably due to the fact
that I haven't let the battery drain fully, ever. So, last night GPM
thought that there were still time left when in fact the battery was
empty.

I wasn't there (but I'm making the test right now) but I'm more or less
sure that GPM issued the low battery warning because I swear I've seen
it at some point in the past. I'm not so sure about the critical
warning, since it should happen when only 5 minutes of battery remains.
Given that the time profile was so optimistic, the laptop probably had
the battery empty when GPM thought that there was half an hour left :(((

I don't know if people usually drains their batteries, but if they
don't, time profiles are going to be very optimistic. Using time left
for taking actions is, in that case, dangerous. Battery percentages
should be much safer unless the battery lies about the percentages
(which looks like it is very common...).

The solution is to tweak by hand threshold values using gconf-editor and
use percentage instead of time left if profiles are way too optimistic.

I'm now carrying a test to see if time left reported by GPM has to do
anything with reality in my laptop.

BTW, anybody knows where to go to know how to interpret discharge-time-
profiles? I don't understand mine and maybe it explains the wrong
behaviour of GPM in my laptop :?

Re: [Bug 383971] Re: Problem playing video

2009-06-06 Thread Ted
Fixed!
I have searched over Google a bit and I found a solution.

Run gstreamer properties (you can do this quickly by pressing Alt-F2 and
typing *gstreamer-properties* ) go to video tab and change
the Default Output Plugin setting to X Window System (No Xv) .

Found this solution on http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=476419

I'm sorry that I reported it for a bug. I'm completely new to Linux.

2009/6/6 tadej p cure4i...@gmail.com

 Which file do you need?

The funny thing is that even if I try to use visualizaton in Rhythmbox
 0.12.0 the program crashes.
Do all these programs use a common program or a library in the system which
is corrupted or not working properly?
Or can be my graphic card the source of my problems? (I use a graphic card
on my motherboard which is not very powerful.)

 2009/6/5 Pedro Villavicencio pe...@ubuntu.com

Thanks for the report, could you attach that file to the report or
posted it somewhere where we can download it for testing?

However launched with sudo yelp, it seems to work fine: I was able to be

Nautilus clearly has issues with memory hogging and there should now be

[Bug 290098] Re: Totem video player keeps playing in slow motion.

2009-06-06 Thread Randymanme
I followed Tom Muse's advice and removed MoviePlayer. I tried to remove
MoviePlayer(Gstreamer) also, but my computer wouldn't let me (so to
speak) because too many other applications are tied to it. Then I put
MoviePlayer back on [and also MoviePlayerTotem (xine backend) which
wasn't on before]. The videos now play just fine.

Still, if Linux Mint works 99% of the time right out of the package,
maybe it might behoove me to prefer that over 8.04.

2009-06-06 Thread Chris Coulson
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How
to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 50198] Re: Timeout has expired error on resume from hibernate

2009-06-06 Thread Martin Pool
This is happening for me as a new regression after upgrading to Karmic.
It happens 100% of the time coming back from suspend, and I think also
from hibernate.

What seems to be happening is this: the unlock dialog appears on the
screen just before the machine suspends, so that dialog thinks too much
wall time has expired when the machine wakes up.

A few seconds after the timeout has expired message comes up the
unlock dialog disappears, leaving the screen blonk, so people may think
the machine has failed to resume.

[Bug 236602] Re: No applications available for photo editing if Gnome is not installed

2009-06-06 Thread jannollo
I'm setting this back to incomplete since I'm having the same problem:
I'm using Kubuntu 9.04 (KDE 4.2.2) and I have f-spot and The Gimp
installed. When I right-click on an image the Open with option tells
me No applications available.

When I try to install the package gnome as Eira said, I get an error
message that the package libgpod4-nogtk needs to be uninstalled to do so
(needed to communicate with iPods). This package seems to be a
dependency of amarok, though.

To make things short: I haven't found a way to get this bug fixed in KDE
4.2.2 without uninstalling important components of it.

[Bug 383908] Re: Adding recursion to calendar event and saving crashes Evolution

2009-06-06 Thread adaran
The bug is simple to reproduce:

1. Install evolution from jaunty-updates (2.26.1-0ubuntu2). The previous
version does not have this error.
2. Open a calendar, add an appointment, set to recurring, save.
3. Voila, segfault:

(evolution:15524): calendar-gui-CRITICAL **: simple_recur_to_comp:
assertion `GTK_BIN (priv-special)-child != NULL' failed

Some guess: Related to the update from 2.26.1-0ubuntu1 to
2.26.1-0ubuntu2, which fixed exactly that portion of ubuntu - the
recurring events.

See bugs #372503 and #376110 - those prompted the update.

[Bug 384409] [NEW] gvfs access inexistent fd0 drive

2009-06-06 Thread nmn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gvfs

Source Package: gvfs

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu karmic (development branch)
Release:9.10

$ apt-cache policy gvfs
gvfs:
  Installed: 1.3git20090512-0ubuntu1

 *** 1.3git20090512-0ubuntu1 0
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I am using an IBM Thinkpad T42 laptop without any floppy drive.

After upgrading to latest level as of Sat Jun 6, next reboot time was
seriously degraded due to a regular attempt to use the non-existent floppy
drive.
After look at /var/log/dpkg.log, trying to downgrade, I finally traced this
back to devkit-disks trying to regularly poll the floppy device - while there
is no floppy drive.

This was even shown in the /var/log/dmesg and by same messages on the console:
23.590119] input: TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint as
/devices/platform/i8042/serio1/serio2/input/input9
[ 30.986245] end_request: I/O error, dev fd0, sector 0
[ 44.050717] end_request: I/O error, dev fd0, sector 0
[ 44.050757] Buffer I/O error on device fd0, logical block 0
[ 57.114103] end_request: I/O error, dev fd0, sector 0
[ 57.114141] Buffer I/O error on device fd0, logical block 0
[ 70.178455] end_request: I/O error, dev fd0, sector 0
[ 70.178492] Buffer I/O error on device fd0, logical block 0
[ 70.670941] lp0: using parport0 (interrupt-driven).

Later on, every 10 to 20 seconds, we have an error in dmesg for I/O
error on dev fd0..

While - after downgrade to previous version of gvfs, I now have:
[ 18.806608] lp0: using parport0 (interrupt-driven).
[ 18.927975] EXT3 FS on sda2, internal journal
[ 19.546507] psmouse serio2: ID: 10 00 64
[ 22.896621] IBM TrackPoint firmware: 0x0e, buttons: 3/3
[ 23.113681] input: TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint as
/devices/platform/i8042/serio1/serio2/input/input9

ps ax was showing a task devkit-disks-addons with fd0 as one of its
arguments

Even if this is a bug for computers without floppy drives, it is anyway
a bad idea to try to discover automatically a floppy (for autorun?) -
especially as this is a slow device that is today disappearing from
recent computers.

Best regards,

Nicolas
