[Bug 384425] Re: Ubuntu 8.10 CD/DVD Creator won't burn a DVD

2009-06-14 Thread Nick
Well, I guess I debugged it for you.

I tried to burn a disc with GnomeBaker and the first try it returned the
error message:

genisoimage: Directories too deep for
'installers/freeciv-2.1.9/data/themes/gui-gtk-2.0/Freeciv/gtk-2.0/Toolbar' (7)
max is 6.
:-( write failed: Input/output error

So my directory structure was too deep. I deleted a subfolder I didn't
really need and burned a disc with GnomeBaker and a disc with Nautilus
and both seem to work fine now.

[Bug 386888] [NEW] Cannot make multiple copies of CDs/DVDs

2009-06-14 Thread Jeff Long
Public bug reported:

Brasero is missing the basic functionality to make multiple copies of
the same CD or DVD. There is anoter bug related to this -- however,
it's from 2007.

I'm running Jaunty.

If it was fixed in a previous release, why isn't it fixed in this new,
supposedly better one?

Is there any way to add this basic feature to disc copying? Quite
frankly I'm stunned...

[Bug 106621] Re: GNOME Trash doesn't show deleted files on fuse partitions (ecryptfs / encfs / Private / ntfs-3g)

2009-06-14 Thread Milan Knizek
FYI, KDE applications seem to work correctly when deleting files outside
of encrypted home directory but on the same disk partition (in opposite
to Nautilus and other Gnome apps as reported earlier by me
https://bugs.launchpad.net/gvfs/+bug/106621/comments/53 ) and move the
files to Trash (and these are then visible also in Gnome Trash). In
particular, digiKam and dolphin work fine.

This particular bug looks a bit different to what was reported
originally, should I open a new one?

[Bug 386910] [NEW] Gnome Power Manager shut down issue with a second battery

2009-06-14 Thread Alpha
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Short description: Gnome Power Manager shuts down the system
automatically if the first battery reaches the critical discharging
level, independently from the charging state of the second battery.

Long description:
OS: Ubuntu 9.04
HW: HP 6910p laptop with a secondary battery
Package: gnome-power-manager-2.24.2-ubuntu8

The Gnome Power Manager application can identify the two batteries attached to
the laptop and can display the charging level for them, separately. Although
there is a minor issue with the predicted battery life-time, namely it is
calculated based on the first battery, the second battery is ignored.
When the first battery is reaching the critical discharing level then the Gnome
Power Manager application is starting a system shut down ignoring the chargning
state of the second battery (even if the laptop would be working with that).

Expected behavior:
Battery life time is calculated based on charging levels of all attached
batteries and the automatic shut down starts when this common value reaches the
critical level.

[Bug 382379] Re: pdftops CUPS filter has several problems

2009-06-14 Thread Till Kamppeter
NoOp, can you post the original SVG file, so that I can do some testing
with it? Thanks.

Can you also try with Intrepid (Live CD, other machine) whether the
problem was already there? Do not replace Intrepid's pdftops filter for
that test. Can you also test with Jaunty without filter replacement
(sudo apt-get install --reinstall cups) to check which is worse,
Intrepid or Jaunty. This information we need to see whether we can do a
Stable Release Update (SRU, backport of this fix to Jaunty) in Jaunty,

The bad quality can also be caused by cups-pdf. The fix of bug 385709
would be the solution then.

[Bug 28835] Re: Unmount in volume right-click menu, is tech-speak and undiscoverable

2009-06-14 Thread Przemysław Kulczycki
My thinking is that devices that are powered entirely by the USB port are much
more likely to be unplugged in much the same way as a stick, whereas actual
hard disks would be more likely to have a more permanent connection.
Keep in mind that most of 2.5 and 1.8 USB hard disks are bus powered, while
3.5 disks are usually self powered.

[Bug 386929] [NEW] Evolution Contacts crash on PDA sync when using WebDAV source

2009-06-14 Thread Sebastian Breier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Today I copied all my Evolution contacts to a WebDAV source to keep them
synchronized between machines.
I use PDA sync for my contacts and changed the EAdress conduit to use the new
contacts source.

When synchronizing contacts with the PDA, the Contacts part of Evolution
crashes (see error messages).
It only comes back by doing evolution --force-shutdown and re-starting it.

This happens repeatedly, and after switching back to local Contacts,
synchronization works flawless again.

The debug output and error messages are probably not very helpful; Could
somebody please direct me to a more appropriate way of debugging these
part crashes, where Evolution stays alive?

[Bug 386767] Re: Wishlist: add Sd2f image burning support

2009-06-14 Thread Schily
I mentioned already that wodim is not the right way to go.
It is unmaintained and based on a very outdated cdrecord,
so wodim only allows you to do with bin/cue what cdrecord
could do 5 years ago

If you like more complete bin/cue support, you of course
need recent original software.

Your URL does not contain useful information on the
file format and even if it did help to implement support,
you would first need to upgrade to recent original software
first. So why don't you first try cdrecord?

[Bug 291742] Re: display brightness is setup to 100% after power up

bug is currently under discussion at bug #35223, so I'll mark this bug

[Bug 35223] Re: Laptop TFT monitor - brightness level is not saved

2009-06-14 Thread Scott Howard
lucck filed a duplicate report at bug #291742 where he did some good
debugging that I'd like to share here.

Afer power up display backlight is always set to 100% light,
independent of brightness settings in previous session. I detected that
problem is in acpi kernel driver video.ko and gnome-power-manager. I use
ubuntu 8.10 with kernel 2.6.27-7-generic on 64-bit platform. This is a
regression bug, because in previous version ubuntu 8.04LTS display
backlight works ok.

Aditional comments:

I detected that acpi/video.ko kernel 2.6.24 driver in ubuntu 8.04 didn't
work and backlight was controlled only by ACPI bios, because
/proc/bus/acpi/video/*/backlights always return that backlight is not
supported. In kernel 2.6.27 driver return correct backlight values:

cat /proc/acpi/video/C085/C144/brightness
levels: 100 51 30 37 44 51 58 65 72 79 86 93 100
current: 65

New video driver trying to get current backlight level from ACPI BQI
object but it is optional ACPI function. When ACPI does not support BQI
object driver will set back-light to maximum value. Pls. see code
video.c bellow:

if (device-cap._BQC)
device-backlight-props.brightness =
acpi_video_get_brightness(device-backlight);
else
device-backlight-props.brightness =
device-backlight-props.max_brightness;
backlight_update_status(device-backlight);

When ACPI BQI is not supported video.ko or gnome-power-manager should
save and restore current backlight value from config file.

Workaround:

Currently I workaround this problem by change kernel driver video.ko to
set 50% backlight when BQI object is not found (Pls see patch bellow). I
also changed gnome-power-manager settings by run gconf-editor and set
following configuration values in /apps/gnome-power/manager/backlight by
changing keys values to:

brightness_ac = 50
brightness_battery = 30
brightness_dim_battery = 30

but it is obvious workaround.

[Bug 386995] [NEW] glade-3 segfault loading an older glade-3 file

2009-06-14 Thread bacchus
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: glade-3

Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope
Kernel 2.6.28-13-generic
glade-3 3.6.1-0ubuntu1 _and_ glade-3.6.3-0ubuntu1

Dear all,

when I start glade-3 in jaunty (any version), select File/Open... and
choose the glade file gui.glade, it crashes with the output given in the
attached file. glade-3 from hardy works well, so this is a regression
from 8.04.

gui.glade will be attached to this bug report in a few minutes - I did
not find a way to attach more than one attachment at once.

This is likely an upstream bug, so it might be good to forward this
report to the gnome bug tracker.

[Bug 386996] [NEW] suspend timeout ignored

2009-06-14 Thread Diewi
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Hi,

After updating to karmic, I noticed that my laptop doesn't suspend anymore
using the timeout settings.
It works by closing the lid or manually selecting by the drop-down menu.
I tried different settings in timeouts (gconf-editor), also disabling ambient
and so on. Nothing helped.
Seems like this settings are just ignored. Dimming and blanking the screen
works. So it seems like a bug to me.
Hope anyone can help me.

[Bug 360591] Re: Crash when doing a replace all: gedit crashed with SIGSEGV in gtk_text_iter_set_offset()

2009-06-14 Thread Huygens
Just for information, here is my last comment on the bugzilla tracker:

I have perform the test with the same data on 3 other platforms since the bug
report:
 1. - latest Ubuntu Karmic Koala (future 9.10) 32bit
 2. - latest Ubuntu 9.04 32bit
 3. - latest Ubuntu 8.04.2 LTS 32bit

The crash has been reproduced with platform 1 and 2. However, with
platform 3, there was no crash (though the CPU was as high as 100% for
several seconds). On platform 3, gedit is in version 2.22.3.

Just as a reminder, the platform used for the initial bug report was
Ubuntu 9.04 64bit.

I'll try to do that, but your comment sound like I might have

From the help file:

That sounds to me that I would be able to take a whole sequence of maybe
5 cards and put them on the empty pile in the tableau. Do you suggest
that the move is just possible to do one card at a time?

[Bug 231246] Re: 'Unlock' button in admin utilities greyed out

2009-06-14 Thread Antonio Macchi III
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 210897 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/210897

I have experienced this bug both on 8.04 Hardy and still on 9.04 Jaunty.
Administrator cannot unlock System-Administration-Users Groups while login
in from a remote desktop such as XDMCP or NX.

We are evaluating Linux solutions with remote desktops thin clients.
This bug is very serious for us since it stops the possibility for many people
to use Ubuntu on business enterprise envinronments.

2009-06-14 Thread Philip Muskovac
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please answer these questions:

* Is this reproducible?
* If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?

This will help us to find and resolve the problem.
Also the bug was assigned to the wrong package. Judging from the information
you gave I have classified this bug as a bug in update-manager.

[Bug 259044] Re: Support for multiplexed audio

2009-06-14 Thread Danny Piccirillo
For this to happen, music players must be able to play multiple tracks
contained in an audiofile simultaneously, and have a separate volume bar
for each one. For example, and ogg file could contain a song with a
separate track for the audio, guitar, and drums. The media players needs
to be able to play all of them at once, and adjust the volume for each
track separately.
