[Bug 15442] Re: panels change their position between logins

2009-06-19 Thread Ed Lover
So in gconf-editor go to apps-panel -general and find the
corresponding entry for you in my case toplevel_id_list and reorder the
panels in the list in the order you want them to appear in this case the
first is at the edge of the screen.

Thank Odin, and thank you. After switching the order of ids in that
list, it worked! For the first time in literally years of using Gnome
in Ubuntu, I was able to have two panels at the bottom of the screen in
the order I specified.

Actually, this isn't fixed in -0ubuntu2.

I'm experiencing the bug the other way around, because on my machine

[Bug 388835] Re: vinagre black screen

2009-06-19 Thread michael franklin
This is not a bug. The remote server was configured to accept every VNC
request. Nothing showed in the client to indicate that this was the
case. So if the server never accepts the incoming request it appears to
the client that the server has hung.

[Bug 58205] Re: Should provide Right-Click-Format...

2009-06-19 Thread Evan Dandrea
Echoing what Juan said, gdu-format-tool seems like the best fit for
this, given that it uses both devicekit-disks and policykit, and is
written by the upstream for devicekit. We include gnome-disk-utility in
karmic universe, but the Debian binary package does not include gdu-
format-tool.

After installing Ubuntu on this system from the alternate CD, I noticed
that gnome-panel didn't have any location configured in the clock
applet. However I had to pick a timezone during install and this
timezone was honored in the GNOME session.

I guess gnome-panel should create a location for the current timezone on
its first startup, and/or more information should be gathered by the
alternate installer.

Bye

[Bug 389400] [NEW] Evolution crashes sometimes when switching from email to calendar

2009-06-19 Thread Oliver Bedford
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Hi!

sometimes crashes on me with a segmentation fault.

I've included a log file. The RSS-feed names haven been deleted due to
privacy considerations.

As the crash only happen sometimes, I cannot provide a backtrace right

[Bug 372132] Re: Create Document Templates difficult to use

2009-06-19 Thread Matthias Hawran
I agree with Sancho. This is definitely a paper cut.
The risk-of-tons-of-useless-items-in-template-menu is really NOT justified
IMHO, compared to the bad user experience it gives, as reported here.
I can testify the same with user used to this behavior and bothered.

It's really not a big deal to at least have the 3 (or 4) most used OOo
documents: word proc, spreadsheet, presentation and drawing.
How much ton of useless item will I have ??

And for the *really* bothered users (I'm talking about geeks), they'll
know where to go to remove any so-called-annoying entries.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems.
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 389414] [NEW] evolution calendar does not handle time zones

2009-06-19 Thread Leonard Michlmayr
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

When adding a new event to the calendar I cannot specify a time zone for
the start and end times. In most cases it is fine to ignore the time
zones and use the local time zone of the place where you will be at that
time. Evolution calender, however, will not let you set an event that
ends before it starts either. Suppose you plan to take flight JL018
which departs from Tokyo at 18:05 and arrives in Vancouver at 10:45 of
the same day (i.e. 5 hours and 20 minutes before departure), you will
not be able to add that flight to evolution calendar.

[Bug 194213] Re: Dim files when you 'cut' them for later 'paste' action

2009-06-19 Thread seanh
Dimming the icon is better than nothing but I think the problem goes a
little deeper. What do you do if the user copies, rather than cuts,
something? Dim that as well? The dimming doesn't seem to make as much
sense for copying.

I think this thread: https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel-
discuss/2009-June/008724.html attests to the fact that there is a
deeper usability problem with clipboard and cut, copy and paste.

There should be a visualisation (a panel applet, possibly) of the
clipboard with the ability to preview its contents. This applet should
implement some sort of notification when a cut or copy occurs to show
that the content has gone into the clipboard (just like we have an
animation when a window is minimised to the panel), and it should be
possible to put more than one item in the clipboard. More like the
clipboard in Sugar.

+ I've tested last night at my wife Toshiba laptop (Intel graphic card,
+ Ubuntu Desktop 9.04):

  1) started Totem to play a .rmvb file (20min)
  2) Totem asked for codecs and installed from repository:

  - gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad 0.10.6.2-1ubuntu2
  - gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly 0.10.6.2-1build1
  3) Started to play the file
  4) Ended about 2min before the real end

Also tested on my own machine with an ATI HD 4850 and the same thing
happens, it never finishes .rmvb files at the correct time.

Tested on the latest stable ubuntu release with all updates applied.

+ Updated: Tested also in Asus Z53SV laptop, Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU
+ T7500 @ 2.20GHz, 2GB RAM, 250GB HD, nVidia GeForce 8600M GS 256MB with

[Bug 389343] Re: Brasero crashes on startup

2009-06-19 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on
the crash report you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-
file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where
_my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 20290] Re: some acpi laptops erroneously report 'discharging' while on AC power

2009-06-19 Thread Patrick
Ok, here it goes. Nothing has changed.

The devkit-power -m output order is the following:
  1.-Running of Battery power
  2.-Plug in AC
  3.-Pull out AC

By the way, something seems to be very broken: in Jaunty, even though I
get discharging/charged wrong, it gives correct information about the
capacity remaining and so on, in Karmic I won't.

Uhm... there is plenty of space for this improvement. Nautilus should
have fully customizable toolbar. But do we really want to copy that
badly WinXP explorer toolbar?

[Bug 28835] Re: Unmount in volume right-click menu, is tech-speak and undiscoverable

2009-06-19 Thread Mat Tomaszewski
Right, lots of interesting thoughts and opinions, but no conclusion :)
And the bug is waiting for the fix!

Since there is no better solution than Eject, this is what we should use. It
may not be perfect, but it's much better than unmount.
Also, I suggest moving this option up (mockup attached), as it's likely that
when the user right-clicks on the removable media, this is the option he's
looking for.
