What can there possibly be difficult in adding an icon for this menu
 item?Just asking
See Sabestien's comment.
Since they feel that there are more bigger problems, they are not much
interested in this ATM.

But since you seem to be interested and know how to fix this, Pls
provide us with the patch , it would be gladly welcome by the community.

Also ,pull up your sleeves and Dig into any of the other papercuts you

[Bug 158483] Re: evince mishandles duplex printing of multiple copies of PDFs with an odd number of pages.

2009-06-27 Thread Bartek
I'm surprised about that though. I fixed the bug in the master branch
with a limitation: inserting blank pages only works when the document is
printed in whole. (it was a stupid idea, I know...) Did you select a
3-page range or did you print a real 3-page document?

There's a reworked fix in bug
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=583429 but this has not been
accepted yet because it is quite lengthy and messy.

[Bug 392822] [NEW] date of files are bad when created

2009-06-27 Thread Autiwa
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I wanted to compare date of files for a script, and I test someting.

I created a new folder, whose date is correct. Inside this folder, I
created a new text file, and the date of this file is 28 june 2008. In
fact, today is june 27 2009 !!

Very annoying when dates are importants.

In fact, the wrong date is the date of the model I use for file.

I think the right behaviour would be to use the today $date when I

[Bug 237975] Re: Mousing over an audio file on the desktop should not preview it.

[Bug 273294] Re: Rhythmbox can not use smb:// as library location

2009-06-27 Thread Jan Lillelund
I have the same problem on two different machines both running ubuntu
9.04.

Emmanuels excellent suggestion of using gnomevfs-ls
smb://smbserver/mymusic fixed the problem for me too, but it's
localized to rhythmbox as VLC and Movie Player has no problems
regardless of whether gnomevfs-ls has been run or not.

I am also certain there is a problem with rhythmbox as calling gstreamer
directly as instructed in /usr/share/doc/rhythmbox/README.debian (i.e.
gst-launch playbin uri=smb://smbserver/mymusic/musicfile.ogg) plays the
music.

[Bug 392837] [NEW] I cannot use the go button to reload crashed pages with anchors in the address

2009-06-27 Thread Javier García Díaz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

In loaded pages, pressing the go button or the enter key in the address bar
will reload the page.
In loaded pages with anchors, the same action will take you to the anchor again.

My problem is with crashed pages. In that case I would like that web
addresses with anchors where totally reloaded.

Case 1:
- I'm in the main page of a blog and I press the View comments link to see
the comments on a given entry
- Epiphany crashes while that (and probably others) pages is loading
- I open Epiphany again and press the button Recover tabs
- The page I was trying to see is not reloaded automatically and I get a
message saying something like This page was been loaded when E crashed. To
prevent... (I don't know the exact text, I use Epiphany in Spanish).

What I would like to happen:
I would like to press the go button to reload the page and go to the anchor

What happens:
Epiphany does not try to load the page because its tries to go to the anchor
instead

I think that if Epiphany knows that the site is not totally loaded (or
does not find the anchor in the address), it should always refresh the
page no matter what kind of address it has. This problem exists also if
you press the cancel button while loading a website.

It happens to me many times, but maybe this is more a wish than a bug.

[Bug 273294] Re: Rhythmbox can not use smb:// as library location

2009-06-27 Thread Jan Lillelund
The music just stopped playing again and I got the same error again.
Reissuing the gnomevfs-ls command fixed it again. The computer connects
via 802.11g on an Atheros chipset which may be the cause for some minor
network instability. It seems that although Ubuntu as such handles this
fine, it throws Rhythmbox out of its zen...

It might be relevant to note that Rhythmbox worked fine out of the box
up until a week ago (on the same WiFi connection), when update manager
replaced some packages. What update manager replaced is beyond me, but
if I can get some guidance, I'd be happy to provide input if it can
help.

[Bug 31037] Re: Vino-server takes 90% of cpu when only listening for incoming connections

2009-06-27 Thread Dan
I confirm the same problem, Vino-server takes 90% of CPU. I am using Ubuntu
8.04 with all the updates (up to this time, June 2009).
After all this time of using this version of Ubuntu (8.04) it is for the first
time when all of the sudden, without trying to use it, the vino-server jumps up
and takes all the CPU power.
The only way of shutting it off is to go to System/Preferences/Remote Desktop
and disable it from the Share check box and kill it after (otherwise it
respawns itself).

[Bug 386150] Re: Nautilus file browser toolbar is complicated, redundant, and ugly

2009-06-27 Thread Danielsan474
Refresh is a state of mind, and this action could be between zero and
Inf+. We should take a decision, split this distribution of times in two
parts, what people think about a long-wait and not. 3 sec? 4 sec? more?

Local browsing, low number of files in a folder:
1. Joe open nautilus window and browse files...
2. Joe click on refresh button and all is good (less than 1 sec)

Local browsing, high number of files in a folder:
1. Joe open nautilus window for last year photos (around 1000)
2. Time step over 3 seconds, nautilus show a transient message with a stop
button
3. Joe click stop

Network browsing for windirectories:
1. Joe open nautilus window and browse network dirs
2. Time step over 3 seconds, a new transient message with a stop button..
3. Joe don't click, transient message/window disappear after files come up

[Bug 159042] Re: Nautilus is very slow in list mode with Assistive Technologies enabled (at-spi)

2009-06-27 Thread Benny
Upstream ATK bug http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=577098 is an
earlier version.

If the analysis there is correct, then ATK is unmaintained since 2005
when Sun worked on it, and future work is planned only for Gnome 3.0 (
http://live.gnome.org/Accessibility/BonoboDeprecation )

I suppose Canonical can see if this is indeed the case by contacting
GNOME devels and/or the people of codethink http://codethink.co.uk/ who
plan to work on it for gnome 3.0

If indeed there are no developers that take up these serious issues, I
would suggest to completely remove ATK from Ubuntu. THere is no place in
a mainstream distro for broken technologies that interfere with other
applications and no developers to take up the issues.

[Bug 392716] Re: notification area applets crash on login

2009-06-27 Thread Oliver Grawert
one other (rather hackish) hint if you want to test a proper
kernel/initramfs setup as ubuntu uses it:

(well, one way would be to base on a ubuntu kernel package, add your
patchset and just build that, since this will call the proper
postinstall scripts, use the needed configuration options for security
features etc and put things in the right places, but for a quicker way
to test your own build, see below)

a) do a normal install to USB from the imx51 live image (leave the SD card in
place after installation)
b) copy the vmlinuz-$version of the kernel you want to test into /boot on the
installed system
c) put the branch with modules for this kernel under /lib/modules
d) run: sudo update-initramfs -c -k $version of the kernel you need the
initramfs for
d) run: sudo flash-kernel (so the initramfs gets proper padding and kernel and
initramfs get put into the redboot patition on SD into the right places)
e) reboot

this will narrow down the possible causes of failure to kernel or
redboot changes and exclude any possibilities of issues caused by a
nonstandard boot setup.

[Bug 387836] Re: Nautilus won't accept a newly-mounted disk as a drop target until it has been viewed

2009-06-27 Thread Alastair Carey
Well, I don't have Karmic, so can't test it there. All I can tell you is
that it is present in 9.04, has been since the days of 8.04, and has
been noticeable since my first day of using a new installation of Ubuntu
:)

If it's fixed in 9.10, great. I can't test that until Karmic gets to at
least a beta release, though.

[Bug 69577] Re: Don't edit files

2009-06-27 Thread Tom Harris
From the Features page on the F-Spot website:
Editing photos in F-Spot is a breeze. Easily rotate, crop, resize, and adjust
red eye and other color settings with a few simple clicks. Versioning ensures
your originals are never altered

It should create a new version of the file like it does for other
changes, and like it promises to do. Or at the least, not change any tag
other than the rotate one as that is the only change the user has
requested.

[Bug 392729] [NEW] Gnome About dialogs do not tell me the program name

2009-06-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

My locale is de_AT.UTF-8. Many gnome programs (for example gnome-help or
the clock applet in the panel) don't tell me the name of the program in
the About dialog. Instead they tell me a translation of the name! This
may be a nice information too, but I use the About dialog specifically
to find out what program (or version) I am dealing with.

How am I supposed to find the package/command/process id/bug page for the
application with the name Uhr or Hilfe?
This is not only a locale problem, as evince introduces itself as Document
Viewer.

It is nice that programs have human readable descriptions (nobody would
guess what evince is meant to do) but there should be some way to find
out the real name of the program.

Yes, the bug is reproductible. Steps are detailed in my first post. You
just have to create a file using a template (or model, don't know the
exact word in english).

And the date will be the date of the template model, and do not
represent the time at wich you have created your new file.

Maybe this bug would be a good candidate for the 100 paper cuts list for

2009-06-27 Thread Larry Laird
This is not a paper cut because it is not a general usability issue, but
rather a bug affecting a relatively small user population.

I disagree. Rhythmbox is touted as the default music player in Ubuntu
and it doesn't function properly.

[Bug 223198] Re: system freeze

2009-06-27 Thread Thomas
Hello,

I encounter the same problem, except it always(!) happens and not only
from time to time. At the moment I am not able to burn a CD/DVD because
the system freezes as soon as Brasero gathered all data and could/should
start the burning.

On Windows the burning works. So it is not a fault of my cd burner.

Mainboard is AOpen Modell i975Xa-YDG. Ubuntu is Jaunty with up to date patches:
Linux waterloo 2.6.28-13-generic #44-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jun 2 07:55:09 UTC 2009
x86_64 GNU/Linux

I don't know if it is of any help, but I have to boot my computer with
acpi=ht (or acpi=off) otherwise the system freezes approx. 20 seconds
after gnome is up and running. So maybe the problem is related to some
kernel-accessing-cd-player-thing.

If I can provide more information please give me a hint how.

Thomas

[Bug 51043] Re: rightclick - paste missing in contextmenu when pointer is above files/folders

2009-06-27 Thread Jossele
Yes! Please fix it in anintuitive way.
My mom was totally confused when the paste action did no show up in the
context menu as soon as the nautilus window was full. She thought the folder
was full because she couldnt paste anymore.
This is totally counter-intuitive.
It would be a big usability improvement.

My proposal: show paste and create new folder etc even if you click
on a file in the view.

[Bug 73343] Re: Gnome-panel locks each applet (or each element). Global lock is better

2009-06-27 Thread Jossele
I Agree:
One lock(customize) for the whole toolbar and disallow removel if locked.

Benefits
- less clutterd right click menus on applets (3 menu items less): let the user
focus on what he wants to do
- dont remove menu bars accidently (I've installed ubuntu for my mother and
everytime(!!) i have a look at it some applets are accidently missing)

[Bug 73343] Re: Gnome-panel locks each applet (or each element). Global lock is better

2009-06-27 Thread Andy.hall06

I know this bug report is a duplicate and seems to be marked confirmed and
triaged (except for the 100 bugs project) but I think it should be considered
for the 100 papercuts project because the older bugs were filed and appraised 2
and 3 years ago (and not as part of this project) and still haven't been fixed
upstream! Is anyone even looking at them now?

If ubuntu could fix it for its distribution it would be nice especially
because it seems to be a trivial change and fits perfectly into the
papercut definition.

Thanks

[Bug 386150] Re: Nautilus file browser toolbar is complicated, redundant, and ugly

2009-06-27 Thread Andreas Nilsson
Here is a comparison between the size of the chrome (gray) and the area where
you see the actual files (green) in the default nautilus window size on a new
(guest) account. This does not take into account tabs or the bar that appears
when you're about copy files to a writable cd.
Solving this bug would mean more space for the green area.

With my icon designer hat on, icons such as Visualization in Rhythmbox
benefit from a label, as it's a much less common symbol in our everyday
lives than arrows (that are practically everywhere), so I don't believe
dropping the labels from those icons will impact notably on the
learnability of the interface.
