[Bug 394592] [NEW] audio feedback doesn't always use two tones
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center First of all, I'm using Ubuntu Jaunty, with gnome-control-center 1:2.26.0-0ubuntu3. Second, I turned on the Audio feedback feature in Keyboard preferences, namely the Beep when a toggle key is pressed. This produces two different tones of beeps, one when the toggle key ends up in the on state, another (lower pitched) when the toggle key ends up in the off state. The problem is that the CapsLock key uses the same, high pitched beep for both states, so if you press it by accident you have to look for the keyboard leds to check if the key is on or off. If you press another toggle key (NumLock, for example), it produces the two different tones AND makes the CapsLock key work again as usual with two beep tones and not one. Looks like the CapsLock key doesn't remember it's state in the audio feedback code until another unrelated toggle key is used :?? What I expected to happen? Hearing a different pitched beep each time I press CapsLock, the high pitched one when the key ends up on, the low pitched one when the kay ends up off. What happened instead? The high pitched beep is always heard no matter toggle state, unless you use another toggle (I've tested with NumLock). From then on, CapsLock also uses two tones. To reproduce, from a fresh boot (CapsLock off, NumLock off): - Press CapsLock: you hear the high pitch beep, indicating on state. - Press CapsLock: you hear the high pitch beep again, indicating on, but the key is now in the off position. - Press CapsLock: you hear the high pitch beep again, this time the key is in the on state. This can be repeated ad nauseam and you always get the high pitch beep. - Press NumLock: you hear the high pitch beep, the key goes to the on state. - Press NumLock: you hear the LOW pitch beep, the key goes to the off state, behaving correctly. From now on, the CapsLock uses two tones and not one like before! [Bug 23293] Re: Nautilus windows should close on unmount
Sebastien made a valid point (Although I would prefer for myself that the windows just close automatically). How about this proposal: When I unmount a volume, the right area of a nautilus window (with the files) goes gray, with a message in the center like Please wait while writing data to the device or The device is being prepared for removal (for writable devices). After unmounting is complete, the message changes to The device can now be safely removed (For non- ejectable devices) or The CD-ROM/DVD-ROM/whatever has been ejected with a Close window button below. - The window would not disappear magically - The Close window button is bigger than the little [X] and thus is easier to hit, as in most cases this is what the user wants anyways. - The status of the unmount process is displayed where the user probably had the attention before: in the nautilus window. As unmounting a volume is in our case triggered manually from within nautilus, I do not consider this a global event to appear as a black notification bubble in the upper right corner. [Bug 389057] Re: evolution crashed with SIGSEGV in g_main_context_dispatch()
This is not evolution per se, it's the gtk+gnome file selector dialogue. 0x7f453b3778b1 in _gtk_entry_completion_popup (completion=0x7f45212df2d0) at /build/buildd/gtk+2.0-2.17.2/gtk/gtkentrycompletion.c:1491 As such it makes parts of the GNOME desktop largely unusable so I suggest moving it to gtk+ and raising the priority of this bug. [Bug 394095] Re: Renaming music directory causes loss of metadata
I confirm this bug. Nautilus doesn't suffer from this with thumbnails of images. .thumbnails has the thumbnails for your pictures, with the filenames based on the MD5 of some file metadata including the path. If you drag the image to another folder, the thumbnail's MD5 filename is updated to match the new file location. ** Changed in: rhythmbox (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed -- Renaming music directory causes loss of metadata https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/394095 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

You have been subscribed to a public bug: I used the aptitude update command, sudo aptitude safe-update and 621 files were modified. On reboot, the normal bios load was followed by the grub 1.5 one line text announcement. The graphic login and password prompts never appear. The following message appears in a text dialog box with a blue screen: Server authorization directory is set to /var/lib/gdm but is not owned by user 109 and group 116. [Bug 217713] Re: Inserting blank CD opens window on all users' desktops
All is fine on my spare e machines. 8.10 works flawlessly. I tried to install 7.10 on my primary machine. After a resolution problem it went in. But I can not load any repositories for 7.10. It does how ever see all cds/dvds. Since the repositories will not refresh It was an exercise in futility. can not even istall sound converter. Since i7.10 sees them I assume it is not a hardware problem. I am really frustrated. MS won't let me reinstall my oem XP install and 7.10 is useless to me without access to repos. It is a programing problem. thanks to 8.o4 and MS not accepting keys for oem installs any more I essentially have a 1000 dollar net book. I assume I am not the only one too. Every person I turned on to Ubuntu loved 7.10 but went back t MS after 8.10 upgrade since it broke writing ability.
