[Bug 383256] Re: seahorse no longer running after upgrade to karmic, no gpg agent available

2009-07-29 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
Not only that, but the splitting of seahorse-agent into seahorse-plugins
results in seahorse's own GPG keyring copy being out of sync with what's
in .gnupg/ as well, which results in key signatures added e.g. using
'caff' via command line disappearing, whenever someone uses Seahorse to
edit the content of their GPG keyring later.

[Bug 406232] [NEW] black rectangles / background not redrawn when GDM main window changes size

2009-07-29 Thread Max Bowsher
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Since a fairly recent Karmic update (sorry I can't be more specific, I
don't reboot especially often), when the GDM main window shrinks (e.g.
when you select a user and the user list collapses to the single
selected item), the screen areas exposed my this size change show as
black rectangles, instead of being repainted with the parts of the
desktop background image that were previously covered.

[Bug 345166] Re: Tomboy tries to load fuse module in Jaunty...and can't

2009-07-29 Thread Martin Pitt
We got burned by too liberal stable updates before, several times, so we
learned to be very cautious and conservative. I am sorry if you spent work with
creating a point release for us (well, some changes are obviously for other
distros/platforms), which contains too many changes. Perhaps in the future we
can discuss this beforehand? In general we prefer backporting minimal patches,
i. e. throwing git commit IDs into bug reports is usually the best approach.
The kinds of fixes which are appropriate for stables are outlined in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#When.

It changes user-visible strings and thus breaks string freeze and
translations

Nope, this is not correct, unless you refer to documentation updates,
in which case, well, duh. This is pretty common practice in GNOME.

I did refer to the documention, yes. It might be common practice in
GNOME to break existing translations in stables, but it's not in Ubuntu.

Changes other parts of the code without referring to bug reports
Because your users had yet to file any bug reports for them

My (with my SRU hat on) general POV for that is that if nobody filed a
bug about something, it can hardly be so bad to justify a SRU in the
first place. However, if someone (like Iain) wants to include (some of)
these fixes, he can just open bugs for them and supply the necessary SRU
information (justification, test cases, etc.) I wasn't saying that _you_
(Sandy) are supposed to do this work, just that we use bugs to document
SRUs.

 - Translation updates: el, es

These are fine, of course (and I didn't complain about them before).

Iain, I leave it to you whether you prefer taking the new upstream
release, restore the old documentation strings, and file bugs for the
other changes, or just cherrypick the SRU worthy fixes (which is a lot
easier to do, to review and safer, FWIW).

[Bug 406238] [NEW] brasero no longer detects blank cds after upgrade to 9.10 (karmic)

2009-07-29 Thread Nick Colgan
Public bug reported:

This is a possible regression from jaunty to karmic. After upgrading to
9.10, I am unable to burn cds using brasero. As evidenced in the
attached screenshot, brasero fails to detect inserted blank cds,
displaying the message No available disc as well as Please insert a
recordable CD or DVD and 'There is no recordable disc inserted. All
other applications detect them fine, however, and I am still able to
burn cds using GnomeBaker.

[Bug 406270] [NEW] Black bars around the logon dialog

2009-07-29 Thread Alan Pope
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

The gdm dialog has recently started kinda not redrawing the screen
properly. If I choose my name, the window shrinks and leaves black bars
behind rather than the background. If i get the password wrong it goes
back to the logon dialog correctly but has even bigger black bars around
it.

Two photos attached, black bars are hard to see but they are there both
above and below the logon dialog.

[Bug 315591] Re: LD_LIBRARY_PATH set in ~/.profile doesn't stick

2009-07-29 Thread Max Bowsher
It would appear that this is a known issue in that it is documented in
/usr/share/doc/openssh-client/README.Debian.gz.

I think we can declare this not a bug in GDM, but somewhere hovering
between openssh and x11-common (since x11-common installs the Xsession.d
script which folds ssh-agent into the session startup).

This is a rather thorny problem, since there are so many conflicting
requirements:
 * be setgid to afford ssh-agent protection from ptrace()
 * retain behaviour of ssh-agent exiting when the X session does
 * allow ssh-agent to insert envvars into the X session environment
 * don't be put a setgid process on the chain of execs launching the X session
(to avoid this bug)

I don't see any way out which doesn't involve writing a non-trivial
wrapper which launches the setgid ssh-agent in a mode which emits the
envvars to stdout, incorporates the envvars into its own environment,
forks the rest of the X session, and then waits for the X session to
exit at which point it kills the ssh-agent.

Quite the can of worms.

[Bug 406293] [NEW] Cursor drifts randomly on Fujitsu Lifebook P1510D

2009-07-29 Thread Ricky Munroe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

My cursor drifts in a random direction at a random speed at seemingly
random times. It started happening a few months ago when I was running
Ubuntu 8.04 on the same machine, but the problem has been somewhat
transient. A few days ago I reformatted my drive and installed Ubuntu
8.10 from a USB CD drive. During the installation, the cursor started to
drift again. It is particularly bad today, and I have been unable to
find reports of anyone having a similar problem. I believe the Fujitsu
Lifebook P1510D uses an Alps Stickpointer as its input device.

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see
