Public bug reported:

How to reproduce a crash in nautilus:
Move the mouse above a folder, hold down the left mouse button, then press and
release the right mouse button while holding down the left, then release the

[Bug 401934] Re: gedit crashed with SIGSEGV in IA__g_list_last()

2009-08-09 Thread Oded Arbel
The problem is that gedit remembers the cursor position for each file
*by name*. If you rename the file to something else then gedit treats it
as a new file and sets the cursor position to a safe position, If you
rename it back and try to load it, gedit tries to use the cursor
position saved for that name and inits itself with a cursor position
that causes it to crash.

The file having Linux in its name has nothing to do with it.

[Bug 380091] Re: Ubuntu 9.04 Ekiga 3.2.0 If PDU is way larger than standard MTU (1500), even if local MTU is large enough (7000), connection timeout.

2009-08-09 Thread Yannick Defais
Hi,

You do not need to enable just 1 codec, SIP is a negotiation mechanism;
it will find an agreement if you enable several codecs. There is also
priority order: in Ekiga preferences the more you push a codec on top of
the list, the more it get higher priority.

The issue here is a threshold issue: the standard MTU is set to 1500
(with some exceptions). If there is too much codecs the packet size will
be higher than that threshold and the packet will not reach the
destination, thus preventing the negotiation leading to a failure.

Adding TCP support will remove this threshold, thus you'll be able to
select all the codecs. The workaround for now is not to enable just 1
codec, the workaround is to disable a few codecs (I'm not sure about the
exact number, maybe 2 or 3 will be enough).

It seems you are confusing the SIP negociation mechanism, which is clear
test based and goal is to control/negotiate and the communication
mechanism (the audio and video streams during a call) which use a
completely different mechanism based on the RTP protocol
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real-time_Transport_Protocol

AFAIK there is no issue with RTP related to MTU size. The sample rate of
a codec (8 kHz, 16 kHz, etc.) is not related with your issue.

The standard define strategies for dealing with the MTU:
http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc3261#section-18.1.1
If a request is within 200 bytes of the path MTU, or if it is larger
than 1300 bytes and the path MTU is unknown, the request MUST be sent
using an RFC 2914 [43] congestion controlled transport protocol, such
as TCP. If this causes a change in the transport protocol from the
one indicated in the top Via, the value in the top Via MUST be
changed. This prevents fragmentation of messages over UDP and
provides congestion control for larger messages. However,
implementations MUST be able to handle messages up to the maximum
datagram packet size. For UDP, this size is 65,535 bytes, including
   IP and UDP headers.
(I will add this to the upstream bug)

Thus, as of now, Ekiga is not standard compliant in this matter. It is a
hard question to have Ekiga dealing gracefully in case of a connection
to a non-standard compliant client. The standard itself, which is
already very complexe (SIP is way much more than a single RFC, there is
many texts (i.e. RFCs) defining the standard), was written to deal with
capabilities negotiation. Adding more cases in situation of non-standard
compliant clients (i.e. obscure behaviour) is really hard.

As we have limited resources (really), our efforts are mainly to stick
to the standard and try our best to be compliant. Make no mistake, I'm
not refusing any such tricks. We have done some changes like that
already in the past (i.e. changing Ekiga behaviour to deal with not
fully compliant clients, Ekiga remaining compliant). My point is: this a
much more complex than just let's downgrade gracefully. Change has to
remain standard compliant or it will lead to a situation where it will
improve the situation for some people and will be a regression for
other. In practice, it is often a best effort to narrow the issue window
until there is no more issue.

Best regards,
Yannick

[Bug 410999] [NEW] Do you want to overwrite... dialogue box lacks yes/no to all and cancel buttons

2009-08-09 Thread Josh Smith
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

If a user drags and drops songs from their Music Library to a device on
which the songs are already stored, a dialogue box asks them whether the
songs on the device should be overwritten (screenshot attached).

Because the box doesn't have yes/no to all buttons or an option to
cancel, if a user accidentally drags a large number of songs to their
device that are already on there, they face a time consuming and
repetitive task of having then click yes/no on each dialogue box, one-
by-one.

Could I suggest adding yes/no to all buttons, along with a cancel
button, to this box?

[Bug 44989] Re: Doesn't print (large) PDF files

2009-08-09 Thread Mikko Saarinen
I too can print my files with the lpr command, so evince is to be
blamed.

But the same happened with eye of gnome - I downloaded an icc test image
(4,5 MB jpg) and opened it with Eye of Gnome. When I tried to print it
the process took 6 minutes and died with too many failed attempts. Then
I tried with lpr icc-test-image.jpg and after two minutes my laser
started to print the image.

All in all, I think that printing with Ubuntu feels like a slow process
to me. Would it be possible to cut the corners a little?

[Bug 160311] Re: Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult

2009-08-09 Thread fermulator
So there are two separate issues here now:
 1. Border thickness (Thomas' patch)
--- This introduction of a slider is a great idea. It gives the user some
GUI control of his/her theme in GNOME. I think it's certainly a nice perk, and
is yet another form of control given to the user via the GUI instead of
modifying the XML file. This inadvertently provides an easier workaround for
window resizing, but does not solve the underlying problem.
 2. Border resize can be difficult with a thin border
--- So here we have the scenario that if a user wants thin borders (or has
chosen a theme with thin borders) for aesthetic reasons, then resizing his/her
windows can be difficult. The difficulty to grab 1px of the screen is linearly
proportional to the ever increasing resolution sizes on desktop monitors. Two
ideas/solutions have been proposed:
A) Virtual Border -- This would have to be user controllable, float. If
the user is using a thick border, they probably would want to disable this, but
if the user is using a thin border (1px for example), then they should be able
to control the percentage of virtual border area +/- around the borders. As
I stated previously
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/metacity/+bug/160311/comments/82), a
good default is 0.15% for this value.
   B) Snap to Border -- This would also have to be user controllable, boolean.
Disable/Enable. As some users have pointed out, some people will hate this
behaviour, while others might find it useful. Snap to Border would be mutually
exclusive to Virtual Border, but follow a similar implementation. If the user
is within said 0.15% (user configurable), the cursor would snap to the actual
border.

[Bug 396484] Re: Evince keyboard focus on thumbnails upon launch

2009-08-09 Thread mtl
When working on a document, I start evince from the command line. The
main document viewport is initially focused only sometimes. It's not
clear to me under what conditions the focus is placed on the document or
on the chrome. Ctrl-PgUp / PgDn seem to work consistently for
navigating pages no matter what part of the app has keyboard focus, but
I'd prefer to use j/k or arrow keys (which are only available when the
document pane is focused).

[Bug 205574] Re: Allow screensaver to activate while mouse pointer on tooltip

2009-08-09 Thread Patrik Nilsson
When the mouse pointer is over a toolbar and a tool tip is shown all the
time, such as in Pan News reader, and the screen saver dims the screen
the tool tip is hidden for a short while and then shown again. At this
point the screen saver is always interrupted and still shows the screen.
This happens repeatedly.

[Bug 34321] Re: should delete the saved session when unmarking automatic session saving option

2009-08-09 Thread danielhollocher
** Summary changed:

- should not write the session when changing automatic session saving option
+ should delete the saved session when unmarking automatic session saving option

** Description changed:

I've found that gnome-session doesn't properly handle turning off
automatic session saving. Here's what I done:

  1) Turn on auto_save_session via gconf-editor.
  2) Leave some program open - say, Gnome Terminal.
  3) Reboot. Upon login, Gnome Terminal pops up, which is what is supposed to
happen.
  4) Turn off auto_save_session via gconf-editor. Close all apps.
  5) Reboot. Upon login, gconf-editor opens, which was closed before rebooting,
as well as Nautilus, which wasn't launched at all.

To fix this manually, I have to delete ~/.gnome2/session file after
  turning off automatic session saving.
+
+ UPDATE: workaround for jaunty is: rm -R ~/.config/gnome-session/saved-
+ session

[Bug 411041] [NEW] move windows netbook

2009-08-09 Thread Patrik Nilsson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

It would be good if you can move a big window over the top of the
window. As it is now you can press Alt+Space and M to move a window, but
the window is not allowed to pass the top of the screen. It would be
good if the window is free to move, so also netbook users can use
software with huge windows (screen size i.e. 1024x600).

I just want to mention as a user that the synchronization bug in Tomboy
is serious enough to prevent some users from upgrading to 9.04 (myself
included). I understand that backporting is preferable for obvious
reasons and I will not ague for this but the sooner you release a
backport fix for 9.04 the better. I hope the upcoming karmic release
will have the newer version of tomboy with all the new features. Once
you start using Tomboy it becomes a very important tool.

[Bug 367478] Re: Ekiga sound from echo test missing

2009-08-09 Thread Yannick Defais
Or maybe you did not closed Ekiga first: Ekiga has an icon in the
systray in the form of a big green dot, right click on it and choose
quit.

Erase the file output.txt (You can access this file using nautilus -the
default file manger-, press F9 key and select the top entry, named after
your nickname in ubuntu)

Then, start ekiga using the command in a terminal:
ekiga -d 4 2output.txt
Wait a bit for the registration to succeed, then call the echo test and close
Ekiga. Attach the file output.txt here.

Best regards,
Yannick

Yannick Defais wrote:
 Thank you.

Is that the file from Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04 using this command ekiga -d 4
 2output.txt?

 It seems pretty much incomplete...

Please remove the old output.txt and try again. From what I can see from
the previous one, you should not be able to even see the Graphic User
 Interface...

 Best regards,
 Yannick

Yes it was the complete file after I terminated the call, some 15
seconds into the callback. I can see and use the GUI.

By the way the same problem exists on this computer which has an Asus
P5L-MX motherboard with integrated sound. The output.txt showed similar
data when I ran the test here.

I will try again and let it run longer before I close Ekiga and the
Terminal.

I have not found a computer using Karmic that does not have this bug, so

Or maybe you did not closed Ekiga first: Ekiga has an icon in the

Erase the file output.txt (You can access this file using nautilus -the

 your nickname in ubuntu)

Then, start ekiga using the command in a terminal:
 ekiga -d 4 2output.txt
Wait a bit for the registration to succeed, then call the echo test and close
Ekiga. Attach the file output.txt here.

[Bug 411086] [NEW] Attachments data error

2009-08-09 Thread Minqiang
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

When I send a shell script text as Attachment to my friend's email, he received
an error file, I meant, my Attachment, a shell script, is unexpectedly
changed, which I can tell with the command
$ diff   file.origfile.other
this should not happen, I think.

this bug maybe replicated like fellow:

1. download my Attachment with this bug report.
2. decompression the Attachment, you will get two files:
msgforme.orig -- the original shell script
msgforme.new -- the shell script that my friend received
you can tell the difference between the two files using the command 'diff'
3. now you can use your evolution to send an email to your other mailbox
(called mailboxB) with an Attachment of my shell script file msgforme.orig
without compressing.
4. then you go to the web, say, use your firefox to receive the email with
mailboxB, and download the Attachment.
5. And now you will see the diff between the new file you downloaded just now
and the original file.

more infomation for you:
I use gmail as server and evolution as client, I send my file to other
mailbox(not gmail), and the Attachment file should/may be a shell script file
without compressing. Then this bug occur.

I do the same thing, say, send an email to my friend with the
attachment(without compressing) above using the firefox with the same
mail server(gmail), This bug didn't occur.

and I did a lot of tests like sending the email from one mail box the
another, finally I found that it is exactly the problem of evolution.

that's all. I wish this problem be fixed quickly.

Changing keyboard didn't solve the problem.
If X.org isn't started, there is no problem.
By disabling the: Pointer can be controlled using the keypad. option in
gnome, this problem is solved.
(this an be toggled on and of by pressing ctrl+alt+num lock.)

[Bug 374684] Re: After Upgrade to Jaunty ekiga reports Could not register sip:user-name@ekiga.net

2009-08-09 Thread blackfalcon03
Yannick,

I still cant register. Please find the attached output.txt

I am using a wireless router at home that is connected to the DSL
router. I am not sure but is this a possible reason for this issue? I
remember connecting to Ekiga in the same network configuration before i
had upgraded to 9.04.

I have configured the router to forward the ports.

Thanks and Regards,
Arun

[Bug 405995] [NEW] Usability: Mount drive password prompt and keyring unlock interfere with each other on startup.

2009-08-09 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

This bug is pertaining to Ubuntu Karmic Koala Alpha 3.

On startup I get two prompts:

1. Authentication to mount drive
2. Keyring unlock

There are several usability issues with this:

a) Authentication to mount drive is above prompt for keyring unlock, but cant
interact with mount drive prompt till I unlock keyring. It would be very easy
not to see keyring prompt as it is obscured by the other prompt.
b) There doesnt appear to be a way (atleast from within the prompt) to stop
these prompts appearing / remember the password.
c) I cant take a screenshot of this bug because I have to dismiss both prompts
to use computer.

Obviously these prompts are necessary for security purposes, but they
need to be rethought so that they are less obtrusive.

[Bug 411102] [NEW] Ubuntu 9.04 Ekiga cannot register sip

2009-08-09 Thread Psychoscorpic
Public bug reported:

I have the same problem as:
Expired Question #72501, asked on 2009-05-28 by penqem

I set Ekiga up with the SIP I created some time back, and it keeps responding
that it cannot register my username at ekiga.net.
Thinking I'd duffed my settings, I created a new SIP at Ekiga.net.
Using the response e-mail, I deleted the old account, and set up a new one with
the new details.
Same result.

I am accessing the Net via a switch for my residence building, then via
a Smoothwall server. Is this the issue?

bug to the seahorse package in hopes that it will have a faster
response. If you believe that I have chosen the wrong package, please

[Bug 411035] [NEW] double clicking on a document to start program visual feed back

2009-08-09 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When you double click on i.e. an Open Office document, Open office is
started as it should. Since Open Office takes a few moments to load it
would be great to have some visual feedback with the mouse pointer
saying it is started, maybe a busy-cursor for a short while, but can
still do other things on the desktop. As for now I always look at my
harddisk diode to see if the double-click was recognized.

It is not a good idea to have a sound feedback when you bring the
computer to the public library.

[Bug 367478] Re: Ekiga sound from echo test missing

2009-08-09 Thread Yannick Defais
The issue is Ekiga did not received any packets from the internet. It is
interesting as, correct me if I'm wrong, the same computer using Windows
with Ekiga do work.

Relevant line in the output:
packetsReceived   = 0

The RTP session for audio was:
RTP_UDP Session 1, SetRemoteSocketInfo: data channel, new=86.64.162.35:18554,
local=65.38.46.60:5064-5065, remote=0.0.0.0:0-0

IMHO, it is a network issue not an issue with your sound card.

It will be very nice from you if you could give me the output from
Windows, I'll be able to compare them.

Under windows, run ekiga with the following arguments
ekiga.exe -d 5 1x 2x
It will produce 2 files: stdout.txt and stderr.txt in the same directory.
Please attach both of them here.

Best regards,
Yannick
