The problem is that gedit remembers the cursor position for each file *by name*. [Bug 380091] Re: Ubuntu 9.04 Ekiga 3.2.0 If PDU is way larger than standard MTU (1500), even if local MTU is large enough (7000), connection timeout.
Hi, You do not need to enable just 1 codec, SIP is a negotiation mechanism; it will find an agreement if you enable several codecs. There is also priority order: in Ekiga preferences the more you push a codec on top of the list, the more it get higher priority. The issue here is a threshold issue: the standard MTU is set to 1500 (with some exceptions). If there is too much codecs the packet size will be higher than that threshold and the packet will not reach the destination, thus preventing the negotiation leading to a failure. Adding TCP support will remove this threshold, thus you'll be able to select all the codecs. The workaround for now is not to enable just 1 codec, the workaround is to disable a few codecs (I'm not sure about the exact number, maybe 2 or 3 will be enough). It seems you are confusing the SIP negociation mechanism, which is clear test based and goal is to control/negotiate and the communication mechanism (the audio and video streams during a call) which use a completely different mechanism based on the RTP protocol http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real-time_Transport_Protocol AFAIK there is no issue with RTP related to MTU size. The sample rate of a codec (8 kHz, 16 kHz, etc.) is not related with your issue. The standard define strategies for dealing with the MTU: http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc3261#section-18.1.1 If a request is within 200 bytes of the path MTU, or if it is larger than 1300 bytes and the path MTU is unknown, the request MUST be sent using an RFC 2914 [43] congestion controlled transport protocol, such as TCP. If this causes a change in the transport protocol from the one indicated in the top Via, the value in the top Via MUST be changed. This prevents fragmentation of messages over UDP and provides congestion control for larger messages. However, implementations MUST be able to handle messages up to the maximum datagram packet size. For UDP, this size is 65,535 bytes, including IP and UDP headers. (I will add this to the upstream bug) Thus, as of now, Ekiga is not standard compliant in this matter. It is a hard question to have Ekiga dealing gracefully in case of a connection to a non-standard compliant client. The standard itself, which is already very complexe (SIP is way much more than a single RFC, there is many texts (i.e. RFCs) defining the standard), was written to deal with capabilities negotiation. Adding more cases in situation of non-standard compliant clients (i.e. obscure behaviour) is really hard. As we have limited resources (really), our efforts are mainly to stick to the standard and try our best to be compliant. Make no mistake, I'm not refusing any such tricks. We have done some changes like that already in the past (i.e. changing Ekiga behaviour to deal with not fully compliant clients, Ekiga remaining compliant). My point is: this a much more complex than just let's downgrade gracefully. Change has to remain standard compliant or it will lead to a situation where it will improve the situation for some people and will be a regression for other. In practice, it is often a best effort to narrow the issue window until there is no more issue. [Bug 160311] Re: Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult
So there are two separate issues here now: 1. Border thickness (Thomas' patch) --- This introduction of a slider is a great idea. It gives the user some GUI control of his/her theme in GNOME. I think it's certainly a nice perk, and is yet another form of control given to the user via the GUI instead of modifying the XML file. This inadvertently provides an easier workaround for window resizing, but does not solve the underlying problem. 2. Border resize can be difficult with a thin border --- So here we have the scenario that if a user wants thin borders (or has chosen a theme with thin borders) for aesthetic reasons, then resizing his/her windows can be difficult. The difficulty to grab 1px of the screen is linearly proportional to the ever increasing resolution sizes on desktop monitors. Two ideas/solutions have been proposed: A) Virtual Border -- This would have to be user controllable, float. If the user is using a thick border, they probably would want to disable this, but if the user is using a thin border (1px for example), then they should be able to control the percentage of virtual border area +/- around the borders. As I stated previously (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/metacity/+bug/160311/comments/82), a good default is 0.15% for this value. B) Snap to Border -- This would also have to be user controllable, boolean. Disable/Enable. As some users have pointed out, some people will hate this behaviour, while others might find it useful. Snap to Border would be mutually exclusive to Virtual Border, but follow a similar implementation. If the user is within said 0.15% (user configurable), the cursor would snap to the actual border. -- Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/160311 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 411086] [NEW] Attachments data error
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution When I send a shell script text as Attachment to my friend's email, he received an error file, I meant, my Attachment, a shell script, is unexpectedly changed, which I can tell with the command $ diff file.origfile.other this should not happen, I think. this bug maybe replicated like fellow: 1. download my Attachment with this bug report. 2. decompression the Attachment, you will get two files: msgforme.orig -- the original shell script msgforme.new -- the shell script that my friend received you can tell the difference between the two files using the command 'diff' 3. now you can use your evolution to send an email to your other mailbox (called mailboxB) with an Attachment of my shell script file msgforme.orig without compressing. 4. then you go to the web, say, use your firefox to receive the email with mailboxB, and download the Attachment. 5. And now you will see the diff between the new file you downloaded just now and the original file. more infomation for you: I use gmail as server and evolution as client, I send my file to other mailbox(not gmail), and the Attachment file should/may be a shell script file without compressing. Then this bug occur. I do the same thing, say, send an email to my friend with the attachment(without compressing) above using the firefox with the same mail server(gmail), This bug didn't occur. and I did a lot of tests like sending the email from one mail box the another, finally I found that it is exactly the problem of evolution. that's all. I wish this problem be fixed quickly. Keyring unlock There are several usability issues with this: a) Authentication to mount drive is above prompt for keyring unlock, but cant interact with mount drive prompt till I unlock keyring. It would be very easy not to see keyring prompt as it is obscured by the other prompt. b) There doesnt appear to be a way (atleast from within the prompt) to stop these prompts appearing / remember the password. c) I cant take a screenshot of this bug because I have to dismiss both prompts to use computer. [Bug 367478] Re: Ekiga sound from echo test missing
The issue is Ekiga did not received any packets from the internet. It is interesting as, correct me if I'm wrong, the same computer using Windows with Ekiga do work. Relevant line in the output: packetsReceived = 0 The RTP session for audio was: RTP_UDP Session 1, SetRemoteSocketInfo: data channel, new=86.64.162.35:18554, local=65.38.46.60:5064-5065, remote=0.0.0.0:0-0 IMHO, it is a network issue not an issue with your sound card. It will be very nice from you if you could give me the output from Windows, I'll be able to compare them. Under windows, run ekiga with the following arguments ekiga.exe -d 5 1x 2x It will produce 2 files: stdout.txt and stderr.txt in the same directory. Please attach both of them here.
