[Bug 331429] Re: gnome does not honor the Disabled setting in sound preferences
This is not an issue anymore for me since I upgraded to Jaunty, but it has been an issue until the last day I had been using Intrepid. Now I haven't Intrepid anymore on any of my computers, so I don't know if it is still a issue for it. As a side note (e.g. rant) Intrepid support will end in 8 months, and since this bug received some attention after 6 months from the first reporting, I guess any energy in its resolution would be wasted anyway. As another side note (e.g. rant 2 the revenge), for a desktop system this bug is quite important (I refer to the low importance assigned to it), because if you disable a sound there could be a good reason behind that choice besides your personal taste. FYI, I moved to Jaunty in the hope of seeing this bug magically disappear (and it disappeared), but I gained other problems with the move (and let alone bug #280657...). From my p.o.v. bugs should not have any importance that differentiates them, because if you dare to take the time to report a bug, that alone means that bug is important, otherwise no one would have reported it. I think that all bugs are at least normal bugs, then there are security related bugs and bugs that cause data loss (more important) and maybe others, but below normal bugs there should be no distinction between what makes a particular package unusable or what renders a whole system noisy and less sleeping baby nearby friendly: in my case this bug rendered the whole system unusable in some situations (I couldn't turn it on). I know, it's volunteer work, little time, few developers, I could contribute more, Vista is way worse, and so on. [Bug 414914] Re: Gnome-display-properties crashes if you try to mirror with a smaller screen
Hello Chris, I will do that but I didn't find the dbg package, I was unaware of the ddeb repository. On a side note, I think I disagree with your use of incomplete in Launchpad. For me, it means that it's a bug that cannot even be verified without the requested information. In this case, anybody with two screens should be able to reproduce this bug, I think I provided enough information to reproduce the bug. Marking it as incomplete is dangerous because if I don't reply, the bug will disapear from LP but not magically from Ubuntu. Of course, if you tested it yourself with 2 screens and nobody else was able to reproduce that bug, then it makes sense. ;-) PS : I will do the debugging stuff ASAP, don't worry -- Gnome-display-properties crashes if you try to mirror with a smaller screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/414914 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

No, incomplete means it is still waiting on information to be useful - ie, a backtrace. I don't have 2 screens, and lots of other developers don't either. And also, you assume that everyone else can reproduce the bug - that's not always the case with some crashers. It could just be something unique to your setup (and lots of users have 2 screens and never hace this problem). I don't know why you think Incomplete is dangerous. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. [Bug 370999] Re: reports 0% until finished, also slowly burning at speed 0.3x or 0.5x
As it is stated there the problem seems to be the plugin used. I also had this problem, as it was using wodim to burn the iso instead of growisofs. To remove wodim is not possible in a clean way as Brasero is marked to depend on it and it will be removed along with wodim. But there is a quick and simple workaround to fix half of this problem. Using Gnome Configuration Editor navigate too: apps brasero config priority In there it list all the plugins found and their priority, by default all are in 0 so Brasero chooses the one that fit the best. Two things can be done here either disable the plugin in this case wodim and that is done by changing the value to '-1' or to increase the priority of the one we want and i went for growisofs and in that case giving it a value higher than 0. In my case I did both: growisofs-burn = 1 (raises the priority forcing it to be choose) wodim-burn = -1 (disables it) This fixed my problem regarding the wrong percentage been showed as soon as it reaches the 2GB mark as for the burning speed is still slow even while using growisofs. -- reports 0% until finished, also slowly burning at speed 0.3x or 0.5x https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/370999 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 414110] Re: crashes when delete the file in trash
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash- file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding. ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- crashes when delete the file in trash https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/414110 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 415001] Re: Ekiga client crash
Normally, when ekiga crash aport should start automatically to report a backtrace. It seems it does not work in your case. As we need a backtrace to see where Ekiga crash, here is a manual approach: Install needed packages for a good backtrace: $ sudo aptitude install gdb ekiga-dbg libopal3.6.1-dbg libpt2.6.1-dbg avahi-dbg libglib2.0-0-dbg libgtk2.0-0-dbg Getting the stack backtrace, in a terminal, type: $ gdb --args ekiga -d 4 21 | tee gdb-ekiga.txt (gdb) run Now Ekiga should run normally. Perform the action you did to make it crash, then go back to the terminal window and you should see something like SIGSEGV at... At this stage type: (gdb) thread apply all bt (gdb) quit The file gdb-ekiga.txt has the backtrace you need to attach here; go to this URL: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ekiga/+bug/415001 , there is a form to attach a file at the bottom. The file gdb-ekiga.txt should be in your home directory. Now you can safely remove the packages you installed in order to get the backtrace: $ sudo aptitude remove gdb ekiga-dbg libopal3.6.1-dbg libpt2.6.1-dbg avahi-dbg libglib2.0-0-dbg libgtk2.0-0-dbg Best regards, Yannick -- Ekiga client crash https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/415001 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to ekiga in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Here is my valgrind log. as mentioned early in comment 13, running with G_DEBUG=gc-friendly does not crash the gedit, so I had to run it without it. the steps I did are: $ sudo -i # G_SLICE=always-malloc valgrind -v --tool=memcheck --leak-check=full --num-callers=40 --log-file=valgrind.log gedit /etc/fstab attached is the resulting log file. ** Attachment added: valgrind-gedit-under-sudo.log http://launchpadlibrarian.net/30474288/valgrind-gedit-under-sudo.log -- gedit crashed with SIGSEGV in IA__g_list_last() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/401934 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 415458] [NEW] evolution UI hangs formatting message when using evolution-exchange
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution I've looked at the previously reported bugs and none seem to match what I'm seeing. However if this is a duplicate I apologize. I'm running evolution 2.26.1 under Ubuntu Jaunty 9.0.4 2.6.28-15-generic. I have 2 accounts active (1 imap and one exchange using the evolution-exchange plugin). Periodically throughout the day the UI will end up in a state where it will no longer preview messages in the main window but displays nothing but Formatting Message. However, double clicking a message will open a message view displaying the full contents of the message. While in this state, the only method I have found to close the main window is to kill it form the console. Clicking the close box or trying to close it in any other manner leaves it in a hung and unresponsive state. I also use Evolution on 2 other machines, same version, same OS and rev, but those systems do not use evolution-exchange and do not exhibit this problem.
