[Bug 421350] [NEW] Keyboard navigation with PgUp/PgDn doesn't move selection

2009-08-30 Thread Koterpillar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When navigating folders containing many files, Page Up and Page Down
keys behavior is inconsistent with arrow keys. Arrows move the selection
to the next file, and if needed, scroll the viewport so it is visible.
However, PgUp/PgDn simply scroll the viewport, not switching the
selection. Therefore, if I press down arrow after several PgDn presses,
meaning to advance the viewport one line further, it jumps back to where
the original selected file was. This is inconsistent with, for example,
text editors and browsers.

[Bug 420966] Re: nautilus frequently uses 100% cpu

2009-08-30 Thread Truthiswithin
I'm enclosing an strace that shows the sequence of events:

1) nautilus running in the background as normal
2) start strace
3) open a folder
3) wait for folder to become responsive
4) close the folder
5) hit CRTL+C to stop strace

The problem occurs even when viewing an empty folder.

[Bug 389857] Re: [karmic] inhibit applet not working

2009-08-30 Thread Oded Arbel
Hi Scott, I've upgraded Karmic with the latest everything, including
GNOME 2.27.91, and the inhibit applet still does not work - without the
inhibit applet I close the lid and the computer suspends, I install the
inhibit applet, turn it on, close the lid and the computer suspends
again.

I can't find anything relevant in the logs for this.

[Bug 421145] [NEW] gstreamer not working with Quickcam Messenger Plus with 2.6.31 kernel

2009-08-30 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 9.04
Release:9.04
uname -a
Linux aurora 2.6.31-020631rc7-generic #020631rc7 SMP Sat Aug 22 09:51:01 UTC
2009 i686 GNU/Linux

Quickcam Messenger Plus (ID 046d:08f6 Logitech, Inc. Quickcam Messenger
Plus) is properly recognized in vanilla linux kernel 2.6.31rc7 installed
from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/. The /dev/video0 is
properly created.

Skype 2.0.0.72 recognizes the web camera and works properly.
Ekiga 3.2.0 recognizes the web camera and works properly.
Cheese can't recognize the web camera.

gstreamer-properties test with a Video 4 linux 2 plugin does not create any
video output but does not report any error.
gst-launch gives this output:

pe...@aurora:~$ gst-launch v4l2src device=/dev/video0
Setting pipeline to PAUSED ...
Pipeline is live and does not need PREROLL ...
Setting pipeline to PLAYING ...
New clock: GstSystemClock
WARNING: from element /GstPipeline:pipeline0/GstV4l2Src:v4l2src0: Got
unexpected frame size of 116640 instead of 117120.
Additional debug info:

WARNING: from element /GstPipeline:pipeline0/GstV4l2Src:v4l2src0: Got
unexpected frame size of 116640 instead of 117120.

I am not 100% sure that this is a gstreamer bug.

I also tested the webcam with Skype 2.1 Beta for Linux and there is a
problem too. The camera is recognized, but the video output is all wrong
(mostly green, no recognizable objects in the video).

2009-08-30 Thread arky
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this
bug as a bug in gstreamer.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 391976] Re: Ekiga freeze after I press hang up button

2009-08-30 Thread Yannick Defais
GilgongoJones,

I feel very sorry... Killing pulseaudio explicitly do not prevent it to
pup up when starting ekiga.

The only way I found is to remove the pulseaudio package. Would you be
kind enough to try this?

First kill pulseaudio:
$ pulseaudio -k

Remove the pulseaudio package:
$ sudo aptitude remove pulseaudio
(it will probably remove the meta package ubuntu-desktop, please note down any
other package as you might need to reinstall them)

Run the Monitor System application (under Administration-Monitor
system) and make sure there is no pulseaudio process in the Process tab.
If it is there, kill it.

Get the backtrace.

To reinstall the system you can use:
$ sudo aptitude install ubuntu-desktop

And finally restart pulseaudio:
$ pulseaudio -D

Best regards,
Yannick

[Bug 376145] Re: gvfs-gdu-volume-monitor crashed with SIGSEGV in gdu_pool_get_presentables()

2009-08-30 Thread jbell
I have a problem with the gvs package on start up. On one startup 5
Nautilas messages appeared on the lower task bar, one at a time. This
time the machine hung up. I re-stared and after a short delay the
machine came up running, with the error message to report to Launch
Pad. There were two reports, I sent both.

[Bug 421489] [NEW] Glitch when switching between items in compact view.

2009-08-30 Thread Ben James
Public bug reported:

Details:

If Compact View mode is selected, and the item names in the current
folder exceed the width of the nautilus window, when the user moves
between items (up/down arrow) there is a glitch as the folder items are
redrawn.

I suspect the folder contents are first rendered with the window
scrolled to the right (i.e. showing the endings of all item names), then
the contents are redrawn with the window scrolled to the left (i.e.
showing the start of the all item names) - there need only be one
rendering (the latter).

--

To reproduce:

 1) Create a new folder and open using nautilus.
 2) Create two or more files with names that exceed the width of the window.
 3) Ensure the window is scrolled to the left (i.e. the start of the file names
can be read).
 4) Highlight one of the items.
 5) Switch between items (up/down keys).

Re: [Bug 11334] Re: Copy-Paste doesn't work if the source is closed before the paste

2009-08-30 Thread ericf
thank you for reclassifying bug # 417758.

IMHO it should not have taken hours of correspondence culminating in a
tantrum to get the matter attended to, but is appreciated none the less.

also IMHO...

a distribution targeting ordinary users would benefit from a consistent
stream of feedback from such users.

the current structure and atmosphere of the bug reporting system(s) are not
very inviting to ordinary users. this may be necessary as bugs reports
must be vetted and classified before bugs can be fixed.

if the experience of filing bug reports cannot be improved, perhaps it's
time to create a problem reporting system for ordinary, non-technical users
that is friendlier and less rigorous.

BTW:

if i have thoughts on the future of the clip board where would i send them
or post them?

 Bug description:
This bug is an Epic Fail, because it's 2009 and still we do not *fully*
 support trivial things like copy/paste.

Fortunately this works well in KDE.

This -could- be the underlying cause of bug #7986.
This is a general issue that seems to be independant of any individual
 program.
Pick any text field that supports copying, copy some text. Paste into any
 other
text field. It works. Close the source window or program. Paste now does
nothing. The example I just verified this with is gedit to gedit. Also occurs
 with openoffice to gedit.

In some cases, like OpenOffice and Firefox, simply closing the source window
won't cause the problem. It only happens if the entire program is closed down.

When I copy (Ctrl + C, or right click and Copy) text from somewhere and
after that close the program where it is, the clipboard gets empty.

This bug will happen in any application that doesn't comply with the
 clipboard specification from FreeDesktop.

[Bug 421497] [NEW] Run Application dialog instead asks for latitude and longitude

2009-08-30 Thread ChrisLees
Public bug reported:

As Gnome is loading up after login, if I press Alt-F2 to bring up the
Run Application dialog, a strange thing happens.

The Run Application dialog appears, without the text field. In addition,
another window appears asking for a latitude and longitude; this second
window does not respond do the Cancel button, but it does respond to the
close X.

Closing both windows and pressing Alt-F2 again brings up the normal Run
Application dialog.

This is the second time I've seen this strange dialog box, and both
times it has been if I press Alt-F2 while Gnome is still loading up. If
I can trigger it again I will post a screenshot.

I'm using Ubuntu Jaunty on AMD64 with all updates applied. The Gnome
version is 2.26.1 (gnome-panel package is 1:2.26.0-0ubuntu7)

[Bug 408603] Re: Evolution not restoring data from backup archive

2009-08-30 Thread Flavelle
Sorry, relatively new to bug reporting process.

If I'm reading the notes above correctly, then supposedly the problem is
fixed.

I just did an absolutely clean install of Karmic Alpha 4, with all
updates applied prior to trying to set up Evolution from a backup file.
It did not work.

This is important that this works, since this is one important function
for those of us who do clean installations to update ubuntu to a new
release.

evolution 2.27.90-0ubuntu2 is the version that is installed.

[Bug 421503] [NEW] Nautilus does not close

2009-08-30 Thread Flavelle
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Nautilus appears to remain open. This shows up when attempting to
restart in Karmic.

To reproduce:

1. On a clean installation of Karmic (Alpha 4) with all updates applied as of
Aug-29-2009, perform the following actions:
a. Select places, then Home. Copy a file from one location to another.
b. Delete a different file.

2. Close Nautilus

3. Select System Shut Down ... Restart

4. Observe a warning that there are instances of Nautilus running. You
are given the option to Cancel or Reboot.

Given that we supposedly closed Nautilus (see step 2 above), we should
not be getting this warning.

[Bug 421530] [NEW] Cover art plungin - Amazon product advertising API now requires signature

2009-08-30 Thread Craig G
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Requests made by the cover art plugin are failing with HTTP response
code 400 and the following response:

?xml version=1.0?
ItemSearchErrorResponse
xmlns=http://ecs.amazonaws.com/doc/2005-10-05/;ErrorCodeMissingParameter/CodeMessageThe
 request must contain the parameter
Signature./Message/ErrorRequestID04dd4563-2250-4635-af70-cb27059ede36/RequestID/ItemSearchErrorResponse

The API has apparently changed to require a signature. See
http://developer.amazonwebservices.com/connect/ann.jspa?annID=476
http://apisigning.com/

The change happened about 2 weeks ago, but I couldn't find any Ubuntu
nor upstream bugs.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04
ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/rhythmbox
Package: rhythmbox 0.12.0-0ubuntu4
ProcEnviron:
 LANG=en_US.UTF-8
 SHELL=/bin/bash
SourcePackage: rhythmbox
Uname: Linux 2.6.30 i686

** Affects: rhythmbox (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 270976] Re: [SRU] gst-plugins-bad0.10 needs rebuilding with mjpegtools to enable burning video with Brasero

2009-08-30 Thread Sb
I tried installing the karmic gst-plugins-bad-multiverse0.10 on Jaunty
and rebuilding the gst database, but Brasero still can't burn video
DVDs.

Sorry, forget about that, I didnt have libavcodec-unstripped-52
installed. We really need to fix the dependencies or at least the
recommends for brasero, or create a brasero-video-illegal package or
something to simplify this.

[Bug 390662] Re: nautilus shortcuts doesn't work at first press

2009-08-30 Thread arno_b
A use case that always produce the problem for me:
In a folder I have a test.pdf file. I open a terminal in this folder and I
launch pdfcrop using the pdf document. I close the terminal. I delete test.pdf
in order to rename the new pdf that pdfcrop created (named test-crop.pdf). I
select test-crop.pdf. I have to press several times F2 to rename it.
It happens with or without compiz activated

You mention a specific file in the subject of the bug, is it only that
file that fails? It would be great if you could supply an example of
video that suffers from this issue.
