[Bug 423461] Re: (output) conection broken

2009-09-06 Thread Yannick Defais
Thank you Jacek Grzebyta,

It seems there is something wrong in the way Ekiga deals with multiple
interfaces. I'll push your report upstream.

I would like to know the reason why you have 2 network interfaces in
your setup, wlan0 and br0? Do you use virtualization?

Best regards,
Yannick

[Bug 355345] Re: usability: when sound is muted, make it clear how to unmute it

2009-09-06 Thread Scott Ritchie
I'm reopening as the sound applet has changed again in Karmic and this
is an issue once again. If sound is muted and you left click you now
get a volume slider, but dragging it up from 0 does not unmute sound --
it just snaps it back to the bottom. Instead you have to right click
and uncheck the mute sound box.

This seems like an easy fix - just have dragging it up from 0 unmute
rather than snap.

Re: [Bug 58205] Re: Should provide Right-Click-Format...

2009-09-06 Thread Mikko Saarinen
Glad to hear there is progress in this =)

It is embarrassing when Ubuntu can't do such basic operations without
using the console! This is one step in bringing the OS in bar with other
modern systems.

Michael is right about the need for options. I am keen with the
simplicity of Gnome when it doesn't ask too many questions but just does
the job, but there are _many_ places where I would like to see Other
Options... -button. And this is definately such occasion.

Happy hacking,
Mikko

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

When gnome-volume-control-applet firsts starts up, the mute checkbox on
the right click menu doesn't work if the computer has started up with
the sound device already muted. I have to either go into the Sound

[Bug 425121] [NEW] [ubuntu karmic] nonsense reports of gnome-power-manager

2009-09-06 Thread ullix
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

on my little netbook acer aspire one A110L (8.9 screen, 8GB SSD) the
gnome power manager is consistent in giving wrong information. Attached
only one example: selecting Power HISTORY from right-clicking on the
battery icon in the panel provides a window labelled Power STATISTICS.
And in the left column the AC Adapter is highlighted, while in the
right column the Statistics (or history) is shown for the Laptop
battery.

And the power on my tiny netbok clearly is not 720W! This jump-up from
~10W (sounds about right) to 720W occured when I plugged in the AC power
supply.

Hower, this gnome-power-manager has more difficulties. Sometimes after
removing the AC supply the gpm contiues to show being on AC supply.
Sometimes, on battery, it does not update and continues to show 100%
chsarge up to the point of the netbook switching off for lack of juice.
Suspending seems to confuse gpm also. And so on.

2009-09-06 Thread Martin Hamrle
I attach log from dpkg. Maybe this could help you.
There is is problem that packages was installed/upgraded in bad order.

Gnome-session-bin was installed, so new gnome-session.schemas is registered.
Gnome-session was updated, so old package's script postrm unregister
gnome-session.schemas.

[Bug 425092] [NEW] Kind of a bug: Seahorse won't let user create new OpenPGP key without last name

2009-09-06 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Opening Seahorse through the ApplicationsAccessoriesPasswords and
Encryption Keys seahorse will not let users create new keys. Going to
filenewpgp key the create button is greyed out. When a user enters
information the button is not activated. If the does not expire box is
unticked the same still occurs. The issue is that a last name must be
entered in the name box. I don't know if this affects some people but
this may be an issue with some people.

What is Ubuntu doing for so long after one has logged in to one's user?

It is annoying as hell to wait after one has logged in, cause in the
time it takes to come to the login field, you can go and take a cup of
coffee. In jaunty when you logged in you got the system served to you,
now I have to wait. It diminishes the value of a fast boot.

[Bug 425142] [NEW] Evolution doesn't start and calendar-applet doesn't show calendar; both hangs.

2009-09-06 Thread Elijah Goh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Evolution doesn't start after launching it.

Calendar applet hangs when clicking on it to view the calendar. Calendar
applet also causes the whole panel to hang.

On logging out, the computer asks for options to log out anyway, cancel
or lock screen as some programs are still running. These are the
programs:

* Panel
(Not responding)

* Evolution Alarm Notifier
(Not responding)

I expected the calendar to show after clicking calendar-applet on the
panel. I expected Evolution to show its windows, but it didn't. These
happened after a recent update, approximately 2 to 3 weeks ago; I don't
exactly remember when.

Package name and version:
* evolution: 2.26.1-0ubuntu2

Please note that evolution is actually in use; I set up my e-mail
accounts on it: 3 IMAPS and one Microsoft Exchange. I also set the
location for the calendar-applet for the weather information. However, I
chose not to show the weather information on calendar-applet.

If evolution is not used at all, and the location for weather
information is not set, the calendar-applet works fine.

[Bug 421488] Re: system / preferences / startup applications - does not stop pulseaudio

That's not a gnome-session issue, and is not really a bug at all.
pulseaudio clients will autostart pulseaudio the pulseaudio daemon if
it's not running. You can disable that in the pulseaudio config.

[Bug 129396] Re: New windows are put in the background

2009-09-06 Thread 164747
Workaround presented in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/129396/comments/17
by Percy fixed it for me.

Example: clicking a link in a maill in Thunderbird now brings up the
page in Frefox in the foreground as opposed to in the background which
was the case before I changed the focus_prevention_level=0 (before it
was=1, which I guess is default).

Maybe the importance=Wichlist is a little low since this in my view
makes compiz not really an option for users that are not very
enthusistic and forgiving.

[Bug 425204] [NEW] Nautilus search result gets lost after doing a back, and forward button operation

2009-09-06 Thread Chaos51
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When doing a search in Nautilus, and when for example it takes say 10
minutes. After that you find your file(s), and for some reason, you
press the back button in nautilus, for example to view quickly something
you did before you searched.

Then you find that when pressing forward, the search results are gone.
And you need to do a new search. This can be pretty annoying when your
search took a long time to do.

I don't know if it matters, but in WinXP (yes the evil one ;o), you can
do back and forward to your search results, and the results are still
there.

It's the Hardy Heron version of Ubuntu. I don't have the version info
ready, as my computer is at work. So, if it's really important for this
bug juts send me a question, and I check when I'm at work.

[Bug 319281] Re: Missing output devices in sound preferences dialog

2009-09-06 Thread frankie
I just tested karmik alpha-5.

The sound preferences dialog has a hardware tab. There is an option:

Settings for the selected device

where the profile can be choosed. There are options for many the output
devices. Among them:

Analog Surround 7.1 Output + Digital Stereo (IEC958)
Digital Stereo (HDMI) Output
Digital Stereo Duplex (IEC958)
Digitial Stereo (IEC958) Output + Digital Stereo (IEC958) Input
I attach a capture from the dialog.

I think the IEC958 should be Surround 7.1, I tried speaker-test and it
fails for more than 2 channels:

Digital Surround 7.1 (IEC958 7.1) Output

[Bug 214370] Re: Logout/Shutdown Sound Not Working

2009-09-06 Thread rugby471
Redirecting focus to the actual bug filed here:

There is a file called 'libcanberra-logout-sound.sh' in
/usr/share/gnome/shutdown that is meant to be run on shutdown. The
reason the file is not played is that the piece of code that is meant to
be in gnome-session to run all files in the /usr/share/gnome/shutdown
directory is not there (it was forgot).

Upstream is a patch someone made to fix it and the nautilus developers
suggested some changes to the patch. This bug needs someone to modify
the patch as required.

You are wright. The br0 is the bridge used in the virtualization. I use
kvim for that. I setup this interface in /etc/netork/interfaces:

auto br0
iface br0 inet static
address 10.0.100.1
netmask 255.255.255.0
getway 192.168.1.1
bridge_ports tap0 tap1

Best wishes,
Jacek

 Thank you Jacek Grzebyta,

It seems there is something wrong in the way Ekiga deals with multiple
interfaces. I'll push your report upstream.

I would like to know the reason why you have 2 network interfaces in
your setup, wlan0 and br0? Do you use virtualization?

 Best regards,
 Yannick

[Bug 425263] [NEW] Epiphany-webkit (karmic repos) crashes on start with symbol lookup error

2009-09-06 Thread Jonathan Reeve
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

When I start Epiphany-webkit, it asks if I want to restore previously
open tabs, then after I choose recover or don't recover, crashes
with this message:

This only happens with the new version, 2.27.91 which was released into

exception of some extensions) using the previous version, 2.27.5.

[Bug 425268] [NEW] while log in, the message One or more disks are failing apears, but RAID1 disks seem to be OK

2009-09-06 Thread Petr Jakes
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-disk-utility

I am using mdadm RAID1 created during the instalation using alternate
CD.

After log in, the window with the message One or more disks are
failing appears, the session starts properly, but there is small disk
icon in the Notification Area (see attached screenshot).

When click on the name of the disk, the Palimpsest application starts
and all disks are without errors. When closed, the disk icon stays in
the Notification Area.

devkit-disks --show-info /dev/sda
devkit-disks --show-info /dev/sdb

are returning bad sectors: Yes (see bellow)

the same command for the /dev/md0, /dev/md1, /dev/sda1, /dev/sda5, /dev/sdb1,
/dev/sdb5
does not return any error.

I have found similar symptoms/problem described in the bug 421263 (

[Bug 297206] Re: [Intrepid] Unable to encrypt a folder

2009-09-06 Thread Marcin Wisnicki
I have the same problem but it is not because of permissions, rather it
is due to lack of entropy.

If I do gpg --gen-key from terminal, the generation process halts and
verbosely complains about insufficient entropy.
I need to perform A LOT of activities (1 minute of randomly clicking and
browsing around filesystem) to refill entropy and then the process continues.

I've retried key generation from seahorse and indeed if I do similar amount of
activity then key generation completes.
There is even a bug in that when I press Cancel in progress dialog and close
seahorse the key is eventually generated.

Seahorse must show explanation similar to the one given by gpg and a
real progress bar that reflects amount of entropy still needed.

2009-09-06 Thread Murrquan

[Bug 129396] Re: New windows are put in the background

2009-09-06 Thread Travis Watkins
There are most likely two problems being described here. One is like
Thomas said, how the spec says these things should work. The other
should be fixed with the compiz PPA for karmic (should be in karmic main
soon). When I open a directory of pictures in nautilus and open one an
eog window opens in the foreground. When I leave that open but go back
to nautilus and open another picture another eog window opens in the
foreground again.

Can someone see if they are still having issues when using karmic with
the compiz PPA?
