If initially the Word wrap option is already chosen in preferences,
then there is the above mentioned problem. If not, there is no problem.

[Bug 428035] [NEW] Authentication Window falls behind windows

2009-09-12 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

As of Karmic Alpha 5, when a program needs authentication, the window
will not appear at the top of the desktop, but rather at the back. The
window should pop up in front.

I am running desktop effects. When I turn them off, then the window will
pop up in front. However, sometimes it will try and place the window
smartly and place the window in the corner or something.

[Bug 428273] Re: unable to view remote computer thru remote desktop viewer

2009-09-12 Thread arky
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this
bug as a bug in vinagre.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 407621] Re: (design decision) Icons missing from context menu , dialogue buttons , firefox bookmark favicons

2009-09-12 Thread Peter Klotz
I agree with Christoph Korn.

Without icons and due to the indentation the system menu looks as if the
icons are missing.

That was exactly my first thought after upgrading.

After working without icons for a few hours I realized how important
they are to me. Without icons I actually have to read the menu entries.
I am much quicker in recognizing the combination of icons and text than
text alone.

So for me that means that each time I set up Ubuntu I have to change the
behavior back to the old one.

I strongly vote for keeping the icons in place, in menus and on buttons.

[Bug 165113] Re: gksudo nautilus won't set ownership/permissions on files below

2009-09-12 Thread Chetan Crasta
pjman's explanation notwithstanding, this is a bug and a particularly annoying
one at that.
Not fixing this for years reflects poorly on Ubuntu and Gnome.

Here is just one way the bug can be reproduced:
gksudo nautilus
copy a directory (owner is someone, group is someone) from one partition to
another
the directory in the destination partition will have the owner as root and the
group as root
right click the destination directory in gksudo nautilus go to Properties
Permissions
click on Apply Permissions to Enclosed Files
All the enclosed files will now have the owner and group as root

Now, right click the destination directory in gksudo nautilus and change the
owner and group to someone
Click on Apply Permissions to Enclosed Files

*Now, the owner and group of the directory is changed to someone.
However, the owner and group of the files in the directory remains root.*
This is the BUG.

The only way to change the owner and group of the enclosed files now, is
to use sudo chown -R on the destination directory, because it can't be
done in nautilus using Apply Permissions to Enclosed Files

[Bug 424511] Re: gnome-panel and window manager do not start on login

2009-09-12 Thread Martin Hamrle
Hi,

Hmmm, I'm not convinced there. The old version's postrm script doesn't
unregister schema's. Schema's are unregistered on upgrade by the old
versions prerm script, before the new versions files are unpacked.

Yes, you are right, it is my mistake.

The schemas are then re-registered by the new versions postinst
script. By this stage, the files of gnome-session and gnome-session-bin
should already be unpacked.

This is not true in my case as you could see in my dpkg.log. Note that
gnome-session.schemas is moved from package gnome-session to gnome-
session-bin. Gnome-session-bin was unpacked and configured before old
gnome-session is upgraded. Gnome-session-bin brings gnome-
session.schemas and it is registered by postint script. In this stage,
gnome-session.schemas is still registered by old gnome-session. Double
registration is no problem.

During upgrading gnome-session from old version with gnome-
session.schemas to new version without gnome-session.schemas, gnome-
session.schemas is unregistered by old prerm, but not registered by new
postinst script.

The result of this process is that gnome-session.schemas is not
registered although schemas was twice registered and once unregistered.

In fact I do not understood why there is no conflict when both old
gnome-session and new gnome-session-bin are unpacked at the some time
and both contains own gnome-session.schemas.

Thanks

[Bug 428363] [NEW] Nautilus does not remember background gradients for all folders

2009-09-12 Thread Sam Illingworth
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Assign a couple of background colours so that they make a gradient.
Works fine for one folder, but if you use middle-click or control-click
to apply it to all folders, then close and open Nautilus, only the
second colour you select has been remembered, as solid colour. You
cannot set a colour gradient for all folders.

[Bug 428456] [NEW] Screen will not stay in DPMS sleep

2009-09-12 Thread Nick B.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

After upgrading to Karmic, my screen will not stay in DPMS sleep after
the time I have specified in the power management preferences. I have
the screen set to turn off after 10 minutes. It does turn off after 10

preventing automatic suspend and hibernate after the specified time
because the system is never marked as idle long enough.

but I'll leave that up to Chris Coulson to request.

2009-09-12 Thread Chris Cheney
This is also a good example of why people who aren't in bug squad should
not be allowed to change bug status. A brand new launchpad account can
do a lot of damage if they want to do so, such as this person. Also
notice dicandoit2 expands to 'd I can do it 2'...

I had removed completely the /var/lib/gdm library (or file?) via these

[Bug 327872] Re: Missing support for AVCHD (MTS/M2TS)

2009-09-12 Thread Vincent Tsugranes
I'm another user experiencing the same problem. Couldn't there be some
process where the bug is forwarded from launchpad to upstream ffmpeg?
How am I even supposed to know that ffmpeg is the source of the bug? I
open up nautilus, double-click on a video, totem opens and doesn't play.
Geekit did as much as should be expected of any user, and was failed by
this process breakdown.

[Bug 428433] Re: Games will not leave full screen

2009-09-12 Thread Connor Imes
Hi Scott, thank you for filing this bug report. I am not able to reproduce
this. F11 is the toggle key for switching between full screen mode and a
normal window. If this is what you are using to try to get out of full screen
but it's not working, can you please try to reproduce the problem in the live
environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Karmic Koala.
It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it
fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the
development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we
appreciate your help.

[Bug 428490] [NEW] gnome power manager applet doesn't show correct state

2009-09-12 Thread Stuart Metcalfe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Acer 3810T laptop
Ubuntu Karmic alpha 5.
gnome-power-manager 2.27.92

The gnome-power-manager panel applet doesn't show the current battery
state.

Example:

 1. Boot laptop with AC connected
 2. Panel applet correctly shows charging state and current charge level
 3. Disconnect AC
 4. Status of applet doesn't change
 5. Re-connect AC
 6. Applet changes to discharging (not on AC)

Note: the power level doesn't seem to update as time progresses in
either AC connection state.

stua...@stu-acer:~$ acpi -a -b
Battery 0: Discharging, 91%, 04:03:18 remaining
Adapter 0: off-line

That command correctly reflects the current battery state at all times.

stua...@stu-acer:~$ cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/state
present: yes
capacity state: ok
charging state: discharging
present rate:1245 mA
remaining capacity: 4846 mAh
present voltage: 12240 mV

The contents of this file always seems to be correct too.

[Bug 428500] [NEW] Gnome Power Manager does not detect battery

2009-09-12 Thread Chris Irwin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

After removing and re-inserting the battery gpm's notification icon did
not return. After enabling the icon to be always visible (instead of
only when battery present) the icon provides no information on my
battery and seems to think I'm just running off AC all the time (even
when running on battery).

If I go to Power History from the context menu, the battery is visible
with the correct State. The state is also updated as I plug/unplug AC.

Killing and running a new gnome-power-manager provides battery info
again.

[Bug 428515] [NEW] devicekit-power or gnome-power-manager provides incorrect battery percentage

2009-09-12 Thread Chris Irwin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Last night my AC cord was unplugged and the laptop ran it's power out.
Today, gpm displays my battery as 100%. My laptop (macbook) has LEDs on
the battery to show it's status, they were correct. `acpi` currently
indicates Battery 0: Charging, 59%, 00:46:33 until charged

If I unplug AC, GPM's time estimates are seemingly correct for what I
should get at a 59% charge, and the percentage begins to tick down from
100%.

It is like gpm is recalibrating itself on my battery, but it was already
rather accurate before. I don't understand why it is displaying
incorrect data.

Unfortunately this is an issue that will likely solve itself in 45
minutes. I'm not sure what else I can do to document it.
