[Bug 430494] Re: gdm upstart script fails to start gdm
I have similar behaviour from my gdm. It starts X, somehow thinks it should be killed (or something dies?) right after it started and tries again. It doesn't even start a greeter (like in Pete's case), although upstart does claim gdm is actually started. I've also attached my gdm logs, although I'm not sure whether its the same issue or something related that should actually be reported separately. ** Attachment added: gdm-logs.tgz http://launchpadlibrarian.net/31954831/gdm-logs.tgz -- gdm upstart script fails to start gdm https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/430494 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 410072] Re: A middle mouse button paste in gedit does not move cursor to insertion point
I agree with Jason. Just try to write your PhD report in Latex using gedit. Each time you want to copy and past something with the mouse, you're lost. You have to scroll 300 lines to go back to your previous position. What is the interest in going back to the original text of the copy and past action? What if you want to copy and paste at several positions in the text. Just look at the following example: line 056: text to copy and paste … line 102: paste the text here … line 150: paste again here line 151: paste again here line 152: paste again here and continue writting your poetry… Each time you paste, you go back to line 56… You must scroll the screen almost 5 times! It is just borring. I do not speak about the other bugs of this feature in gedit, such as buffer erased when you left click on the document (https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/34629). Combining all those bugs make this great feature almost useless in gedit as it is for OOo 3. Why is this feature more easy to use in the terminal than in a text editor? This feature should work in gedit like it works in other applications. That's what I think. -- A middle mouse button paste in gedit does not move cursor to insertion point https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/410072 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gedit in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

psylem: that may be so. BUT This bug was filed because it's an usability issue. That doesn't go away with nautilus-gksu. You can't expect the user to know of the package. It's not installed by default. Let's say you'd have to install a package to copy a file. Not a good workflow. Now if it were installed by default...That'd be much better, but still not optimal to me. -- Nautilus should have a superuser mode https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/12154 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 431264] [NEW] cpufreq-applet needs root rights to change frequency
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-applets I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 with latest updates here (cpufreq-applet version 2.27.92) I'm running BOINC and as of lately when selecting ondemand (which is a different bug) the cpu goes up to its maximum frequency (it used to stay at the lowest frequency in intrepid...) so I need to set it manually to 800MHz (lowest frequency on my CPU) after every reboot. [Bug 431267] [NEW] The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog only
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center Hi, when viewing font file directories with thunar (e.g. /usr/share/fonts/truetype/freefont) and mouseklicking a ttf file, a window opens and shows font samples. Unfortunately the examples contain only 0-9, a-z, A-Z and .:,;(*!?) and are restricted to american/ASCII charsets only. But when living somewhere outside the USA (and there really exists something outside) other characters of local charsets become relevant like german öäüÖÄÜß, and it is important to see whether a given font contains these (or any other) characters. Yes, a clickable button is missing. Typing ^ does not work, at least not for me. Pressing this button once, twice or even more in gcalctool does not print any ^ sign so i cannot access this function with my keyboard either which means i have to switch to the scientific view to get a button that i can click with my mouse. [Bug 431264] Re: cpufreq-applet needs root rights to change frequency
Thanks, but that's not a bug. Before Jaunty, it was possible to configure cpufreq-selector to be installed with the setuid bit set. That was a hack, and it has since been migrated to Policykit. You need to authenticate with Policykit to change the governor settings (and that was also the case in Jaunty - it's nothing new). I added a new source in gnome-dictionary with the following settings: name : local hostname: localhost port: 2628 I selected the local source and tried a lookup. Instead of a definition, I got: Fout bij het opzoeken van de definitie Verbinding mislukt voor de woordenboekserver op localhost:2628 (Which translates to 'error looking up definition; connection failure for dictionary server on localhost:2628') Further information: - the local dictionary server is running and allows local connections - I tested the local connection with telnet and got a working connection - a tcpdump on the loopback interface shows what might be the cause: tcpdump -i lo tcpdump: verbose output suppressed, use -v or -vv for full protocol decode listening on lo, link-type EN10MB (Ethernet), capture size 96 bytes 11:55:06.848531 IP6 localhost.33863 localhost.dict: S 1538443312:1538443312(0) win 32752 mss 16376,sackOK,timestamp 1205001 0,[|tcp] 11:55:06.848547 IP6 localhost.dict localhost.33863: R 0:0(0) ack 1538443313 win 0 11:56:10.810620 IP6 localhost.33865 localhost.dict: S 1074814782:1074814782(0) win 32752 mss 16376,sackOK,timestamp 1220992 0,[|tcp] 11:56:10.810636 IP6 localhost.dict localhost.33865: R 0:0(0) ack 1074814783 win 0 So it seems a IPv6 connection was attempted. dictd will not work on IPv6.
