[Bug 450138] [NEW] Tabs are replaced by spaces

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I was trying to send new usb ids to the linux-usbids robot and it didn't work
because evolution 2.28 is now replacing tabs by spaces in plain text mails.

It was working before in 2.26.

Steps to reproduce :

1) write a new mail
2) type testtabtest then on a new line testspacetest
3) send the e-mail
4) check your sent e-mails

Expected result :
lines 1 and 2 are different

Actual result :
line 1 and 2 are identical

According to tests with upstream and Ubuntu users this seems to be

[Bug 135548] Re: Action on critical battery isn't triggered

2009-10-13 Thread Martin Pitt
In Karmic we changed from hal to devicekit-power. Nobody confirmed that
this bug still happens in Karmic, after the call for testing below.

I just tested it myself on my Dell Latitude D430, and I get all the
low/critical/suspending now notifications, and the computer
suspends when the battery reaches 1.5% charge (it falls back to
percentage because it can't estimate the remaining time below 5% any
more). I believe g-p-m's policy is correct now. Remaining problems could
be that the battery remaining time/percentage is misdetected. This is a
hardware specific problem then, and should be reporteded individually
against devicekit-power.

Closing now for Karmic (hardy/jaunty are still open, since confirmed
several times). Please yell if it still does not work for you in Karmic.

[Bug 450181] [NEW] Nautilus Sync daemon for network laptops by network connections.

2009-10-13 Thread TM8471
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I have a network consisting of desktop computers and laptops. Laptops
are not always online or they are used by the other users on the go. In
most networks every user in the network is allowed to store data in
separate network folders on every existing laptop (peer-to-peer-
network). If the laptops are online user A can regularly store data on
user's B laptop by drag-and-drop a file in nautilus.

If user's B laptop is disconnected to the network user A gets now the
useless message: „network connection can't be setup. Mounting
impossible“ (or something like that). Consequently user A has to check
over and over again when user's B laptop is online and has then to
repeat after positive feedback the drag-and-drap file transfer. That is
inconvenient and wastes lots of working time.

Because of that mess, Ubuntu should have a sync daemon in nautilus, too,
comparable to the sync daemon for the Ubuntu cloud. Every time user A
starts to copy a file to user's B laptop and when this laptop is
offline, nautilus should offer:

„Network folder is unavailable. Synchronization will start immediately

The problem here is that Evolution by default will render the html part
wich contains testtest instead of testnbsp;nbspnbsp; like it
would if sending an html mail from Evolution.

When rendered subsequent spaces after the first space after the first
occurrence of test are not rendered (as is the cas with any html
renderer).

[Bug 450197] [NEW] User selector doesn't have focus on startup

2009-10-13 Thread fubarbundy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

On boot, there seems to be no key combination that can be used to focus
the user selector in GDM (arrow keys, tab, alt-tab etc.). This means the
mouse must be used to select a user, which is a regression from the old
GDM, and a pain.

Re: [Bug 431176] Re: karmic: gdm should not start in single user (recovery) mode

2009-10-13 Thread Martin Pitt
Beni Cherniavsky [2009-10-08 11:42 -]:
It used to be, until recently (karmic bleeding edge), that I could boot the
 recovery option,
do my stuff in single-user mode, and proceed to a graphical boot.
But now, not only GDM doesn't run by itself, running it manually appears to
 have no effect!
I'm forced to reboot in normal mode to get GDM.

telinit 2 to change the runlevel doesn't work?

And it's not clear that single-user recovery mode is a 1:1
indication that a text-only mode is desired.

It traditionally behaved that way, and changes to this are way outside
of the scope of this bug report IMHO.

[Bug 325973] Re: gnome-session keeps respawning nautilus when no desktop is drawed

2009-10-13 Thread Jens Askengren
I turn off desktop because...

 * I practically only use nautilus to copy music files to my mp3 player.
 * I'd like to have my home directory (not Desktop) as Desktop directory in
nautilus, and I have to many files to fit on the screen.
 * I don't do file handling in my home directory all that much, so why should I
have a constantly open file manager that's not even full featured?
 * It's easy to accidentally do bad stuff with your files.
 * I prefer to use the places menu with bookmarks
 * The applications I use have smarter ways to navigate to files relevant to
the task. For example, Ryhtmbox lets you search thousands of music files.
Eclipse lets you find any file in the current project by pressing a shortcut
and type part of the filename.
 * Icons on my pretty background image looks ugly.

[Bug 393047] Re: Unable to burn dvd or VCD with brasero

2009-10-13 Thread Schily
Comment #6 is not related to the other comments, but it is easy to fix:

Just use working backend software like:

ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/cdrecord/alpha/

http://cdrecord.berlios.de/

Note that wodim does not properly support to write DVDs as the working DVD
code from the original cdrecord sources was removed and replaced with different
but half-baken code.

If you like to write VCDs, you need sufficient support for the CUE/BIN format
that is in recent cdrtools but not in wodim or cdrdao.

[Bug 390816] Re: external monitor output is switched off when closing the laptop-lid when gnome-power-manager is set to blank screen on closing

2009-10-13 Thread nick
This has not been a problem with my Dell XPS 1330 laptop with Janty or
Karmic , until the latest round of fixes this monrning. It is 100%
reproducible.

If you shut the lid on the laptop , it now blanks the external monitor
screen. As I wish to use my laptop in the office this is a massive
problem as I'm having to prop the lid open to stop it powering off the
external monitor. This is definitely a regression, as I have been using
this features for many months. It may also be connected to another bug
that has been reported about the lack of ability to set the external
monitor and laptop monitor to have seperate screen resolutions. I have
attached a screenshot of the current gnome-power-preferences settings.

[Bug 387942] Re: Brasero can't blank disk

What you see is a bug in growisofs..

In order to blank media, I recommend to use cdrecord:

ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/cdrecord/alpha/

Note that you need to use the original software if you like to get DVD
support. After you did install the original cdrtools, you may like to configure

[Bug 450141] [NEW] When writing a message, if selection doesn't contain beginning of the line, it's impossible to copy it using right click-copy because selection is lost

2009-10-13 Thread Jonathan Ernst
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Steps to reproduce :

1) write a new mail in Evolution
2) select part of one line
3) right click to show contextual menu

Expected result :

selection is kept and it is possible to choose copy from the menu

Actual result :

selection is lost

Note that if selection contains the beginning of the line it works.

I can reproduce it in plain text, html in Evolution 2.26 and 2.28

According to tests with upstream and Ubuntu users this seems to be
Ubuntu specific.

2009-10-13 Thread Jam Ward
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 415023 ***

I also have the same problem here with the latest 9.10 Alpha release.
I am using an Advent 4211-B (Same as MSI, just a different brand)

Some people have reported that the screen stops 'flashing' after a few
minutes after loggin in. I have tried waiting up to 10 mins, but my
flashing does not stop.

The only way I have found to stop this flashing is to kill the gnome-
power-manager.

Dear Sebastien,
The application does not crash. It's only that the visualizations freeze until
the next track - please try it for yourself. Open totem and play any file.
Then, seek within the file to another position and check whether the
visualizations still continue to be displayed. If your version behaves any like
mine, the image should freeze immediately.

[Bug 261084] Re: Suspends again right after resume

2009-10-13 Thread Johannes Mockenhaupt
Thanks Martin, I will create debugging logs then (may take a day till I
get to it). Apart from that I've noticed that /etc/default/acpi-support
has the line SUSPEND_METHODS='dbus-pm dbus-hal pm-utils'. I removed the
'dbus-hal' part. Also, there's the ENABLE_LAPTOP_MODE=false line, but
the comment above states the Ubuntu's default is 'true'. I had set this
to 'true' previously, but reverted back to 'false'. After I made these
two changes I haven't seen any spurious suspends triggered by FN+F4
(sleep key). Hope this is helpful. If there's anything in particular I
can help with or test, I'll gladly do so.

[Bug 264805] Re: clipboard is emptied when closing firefox

2009-10-13 Thread christoph
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 11334 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/11334

As far as I see, the bug this was set a duplicate of just talks about problems
when the program from where text is copied is closed. But here firefox, which
is completely unrelated to the copy/paste process from and to gedit, is closed.
(Try it: Open gedit, type something, copy something from gedit, killall
firefox, try to paste it in gedit - doesn't work.).

Anyway, maybe I understood wrong. If you say it's a duplicate, it's
probably true then.

[Bug 450274] [NEW] [karmic] Totem doesn't play DVB-T, channel list parsing problem

2009-10-13 Thread bojo42
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

As of today on current karmic Totem refuses to play DVB-T with the
channels list i used for jaunty (~/.gstreamer-0.10/dvb-channels.conf).
Instead it tells me that it needs a channel list and should follow the
linked instructions which won't get displayed. Having checked
http://projects.gnome.org/totem/#dvb everything seems still alright with
my channels list, therefore i believe there is some sort of parsing
error in Totem.

[Bug 450270] [NEW] gstreamer-based media apps cannot determine file length

2009-10-13 Thread BasicWolf
