Re: [Bug 419143] Re: Printing from evince (and perhaps other GTK apps) to PostScript printers is broken
Maybe the bug you encountered is different from mine, because in my case evince failed silently to print, and now it works again. I never had an error message (but the printer made its caracteristic heating noise each time, as it probably received something, just didn't know how to deal with). Pascal 2009/10/16 Thomas Jagoditsch t...@tjasoft.com todays updates (2.28.0ubuntu4) doesnt seem to help the issue (was the fix reverted ?!?). *photon* and some of my pdfs still will fail to print with ps error undefined command 0a on my brother dcp-8065n - otoh okular will print them without issues. laymans question: doesnt this hint that indeed evince/gtk/gnome etc is faulty and neither gs nor cups ? -- Printing from evince (and perhaps other GTK apps) to PostScript printers is broken https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/419143 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. -- Printing from evince (and perhaps other GTK apps) to PostScript printers is broken https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/419143 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evince in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 452642] [NEW] The 'x is an executable text file' dialogue is not user friendly
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I originally raised this as an idea on the brainstorm, but was told it should be reported as a bug by the brainstorm admin (the brainstorm is here: http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/21745/). When you click on an executable text file, such as a script to which you've just made a change which you want to test, a dialogue appears asking if you want to open it, run it, run it in a terminal, or cancel. I think this dialogue is severely flawed. Why aren't the two run buttons next to each other? Why isn't cancel on the far left where it usually is? What if I want to edit the file instead of displaying it (I know the Display button /actually/ opens it for editing, but it doesn't say that)? Why can't I tell it to stop asking me every time I click on the file, if I always want to do the same thing? And why is the dialogue so cluttered? My solution is as follows: - Move Cancel to the far left, because that's where we've come to expect it to be - Rename the Display button Display/Edit, because that's what it's for - Get rid of the Run in Terminal option, but put a Run in Terminal tick box under the Run button, because the dialogue is cluttered - Add a Remember my Choice tick box It occurs to me that this is probably trivial to fix - could it be a paper-cut? I don't know if you could say it effects lots of users, but it does happen on any executable file. I know that the last thing my mum wants to see when she clicks an executable file is a scary technical sounding dialogue - if we could simplify it (by reducing the number of buttons) and give her a remember my choice option so that she doesn't get bothered with it every time, she'd be a lot happier. ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- The 'x is an executable text file' dialogue is not user friendly https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/452642 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 413399] Re: [Karmic] [i945] Screen flickers due to constantly changing brightness level
I'm having a similar issue, I think. In GDM, the brightness fluxuates between roughly 80-90%, and only stops when I'm fully logged in. Once I'm logged in, the brightness will stay the same (usually very low) and if I attempt to change it, it will fluxuate between values. For example, if I tune the brightness down to around 30%, it will fluxuate between roughly 30-40%, and same goes for every setting. I haven't tried manually setting the brightness levels with a command yet, because I don't know what that command would be. -- [Karmic] [i945] Screen flickers due to constantly changing brightness level https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/413399 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I think this bug is important for evince usage (not grave though), but fixing it isn't easy. [Bug 452679] Re: nautilus on drag n drop to network drive kills desktop
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. [Bug 452940] [NEW] Don't clear the screen when switching to the alternate screen
Public bug reported: I filed this bug and a patch upstream already but the patch has been ignored. It's getting pretty annoying having to fix this manually all the time. The VT100 command sequences CSI ? 47l (switch to primary screen) and CSI ? 47h (switch to alternate screen) are supposed to be non-destructive. Currently libvte always clears the alternate screen when you switch to it, making it useless. I.e., if you just listed some data in the alt screen, flipped back to the primary, and wanted to see the alt screen again you can't because it gets erased. The most obvious case where this occurs is using vi, more, less, man, or any other curses-based program. The init string switches to the alt screen, and exiting the program returns to the primary screen. I frequently need to flip back to see what I was just looking at, but it's always erased upon flipping. You can see the bug using the Gnome terminal or the xfce terminal, since they're both built on libvte. You can see the mostly-correct behavior using xterm. You can use 'echo -ne \033[' for the CSI sequence. I use these aliases in my .bashrc: alias xt0='echo -ne \033[?47l' alias xt1='echo -ne \033[?47h' xt0 switches to the primary screen, xt1 switches to the alt screen. [Bug 451538] Re: Update translations. They are out of date.
Hi Alexey, gnome-disk-utility follows the same workflow of all GNOME applications, and the translations are imported as soon as there is a new upstream release. I am guessing that the upstream translation was completed after the 2.28.0 release, and thus was not included in the tarballs and therefore not imported. It should get imported when the 2.28.1 release comes out. In any case, Ubuntu translators can easily import the translations themselves straight away, and they will be included in language packs, which is one of the advantages of using Launchpad. Here's how you can do it: 1. Download the upstream translation from Vertimus 2. Go to https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/karmic/+source/gnome-disk-utility/+pots/gnome-disk-utility/ru/+upload to manually import the translation 3. Go to the Browse... entry in the form and browse to the file you downloaded from upstream 4. Choose Imported translation, since you will be importing an upstream translation 5. Click on Upload 6. Done! Depending on server load, it might take some time to import the translation, which you will be able to track in the import queue link you will be shown. ** Changed in: gnome-disk-utility (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- Update translations.
