[Bug 477915] Re: AisleRiot Solitaire Crashes GNOME! ... Ubuntu goes to login GDM screen

2009-11-08 Thread Diaruemnus
Verified with Ubuntu 9.10 32 bit here.

Processor is an Intel D

Graphics card is an Intel. lspci output is: VGA compatible controller:
Intel Corporation 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev
03)

I think it's a 45000 HD or something like that.

Either the computer will crash back to the login screen, or just shut
off. I will also be willing to attach any relevant logs; I just don't
know which ones would be relevant.

This page appears relevant, as well: http://www.mail-archive.com/ubuntu-

[Bug 477915] Re: AisleRiot Solitaire Crashes GNOME! ... Ubuntu goes to login GDM screen

2009-11-08 Thread Diaruemnus
I meant to write more information in the comment above, but here it is:

I have a family member who uses Ubuntu exclusively and enjoys playing
Solitaire for hours on end.

Her computer has been crashing quite often. I'm not usually around to
witness it, but every time I asked, she responds saying that all she was
doing was playing Solitaire and she doesn't know what else happened.

Everything was stable in Ubuntu 9.04 with almost exactly the same
configuration.

Additionally, Compiz is disabled if that makes a difference.

[Bug 478178] [NEW] Empathy is almost impossible to set as a startup application

2009-11-08 Thread Duncan Lithgow
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic)
Empathy 2.28.1.1

Since I like to have my messenger clients running whenever I'm online I
wanted to set that to happen automaticaly. So here's what I tried:

* I looked in the preferences of Empathy, and appart from the confusing entry
Automatically connect on startup described in bug #322314 there is nothing
about connecting.
* I looked under 'System Preferences Startup applications', there is no
entry for Empathy so Itry to make one...
   * The file browser starts in my home directory so I assume there's a good
reason for that and try to find an entry there for empathy. Sadly there's no
entry there called empathy.
   * Luckily I know a bit about this Ubuntu thing and the Gnome Desktop so I
look into the .gnome2 directory. Finally a directory called Empathy. But sadly
that only has log files in it.
   * Thinking I'm a bit savvy I navigate to /usr/share/empathy ... but again
there is no file I can point to to start empathy ...
   * Now I'm getting annoyed, nothing useful in /usr/share/gnome/autostart
   * Nothing in /usr/share/gnome2
   * /usr/bin/empathy looks promising - maybe I'll be lucky this time.

Now I'm thoroughly annoyed at this stupid system which doesn't seem to
have any standard way of starting an application!

[Bug 393012] Re: smb: Error while copying file, Invalid argument

2009-11-08 Thread Scaine
The shutdown bug is being discussed here :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-
manager/+bug/211631?comments=all, but there's no fix as yet. The
umountcifs.sh script does still work, but as I say, Network Manager
drops the WIFI connection far, far too early in the shutdown process for
it to have any impact. Seems to be a change from Jaunty to Karmic in
how the shutdown scripts are processed - possibly upstart related, since
even running umountcifs in K01 is quick enough.

There are more problems in Eclipse after the upgrade I think. I was

morning I couldn't get svnkit to work either. Hopefully Eclipse 3.5.2
will come out soon.

[Bug 367743] Re: Attempt to purchase album from Rhythmbox Magnatune store fails.

2009-11-08 Thread cosmix
Raf and Pedro is partly right.

Magnatune has stopped processing credit cards due to online fraud
experienced by their credit card payment processor (see
http://blogs.magnatune.com/buckman/2009/06/visa-no-more.html where it is
clearly stated that in-app Magnatune purchasing in Rhythmbox would be
affected)

While this bug is confirmed (that is it is valid), I believe it should
be changed to won't fix. If (and when) upstream provides a new plugin
for the new Magnatune membership types this issue will be resolved.

[Bug 477832] Re: User account lost permissions after Karmic upgrade, breaking all audio

2009-11-08 Thread Tristan Schmelcher
Correct, the problem occurred before ever opening users-admin. I agree
with moving the bug after the remaining rights issue is resolved.

Terminal log below. The account having the problem is tristan. The
account that didn't experience problems is kateryna. Note though that
the kateryna account does not have the administer permission nor the
configure printers permission, so the groups are expected to be
different. But I do still appear to be missing a permission that she
has: floppy. There doesn't appear to be an entry for that in users-
admin (unless it has an unrelated name ...).

tris...@tinygod4:~$ cat
/etc/polkit-1/localauthority.conf.d/51-ubuntu-admin.conf
[Configuration]
AdminIdentities=unix-group:admin
tris...@tinygod4:~$ groups
tristan adm dialout fax cdrom tape audio dip video plugdev fuse lpadmin netdev
admin sambashare
tris...@tinygod4:~$ sudo su kateryna
[sudo] password for tristan:
kater...@tinygod4:/home/tristan$ groups
kateryna adm dialout fax cdrom floppy tape audio dip video plugdev fuse netdev
sambashare
kater...@tinygod4:/home/tristan$ exit
exit
tris...@tinygod4:~$

I can use Update Manager as myself just fine.

[Bug 478234] [NEW] Cannot disable mouse-pad

2009-11-08 Thread Soren Hauberg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

If I click on 'System' -- 'Settings' -- 'Mouse' (translations from
Danish, so things might be named slightly different) in the panel, I can
change various settings wrt. my mouse. In previous versions of Ubuntu I
could entirely disable my mouse-pad, but since Ubuntu 9.10 this setting
is gone.

I am a heavy track-point user (I will not buy a laptop that doesn't have
a track-point), because I simply cannot figure out how to use a mouse-
pad. Therefore, I have really enjoyed being able to disable the mouse-
pad, so it would be really nice if this setting could be restored.

[Bug 477832] Re: User account lost permissions after Karmic upgrade, breaking all audio

2009-11-08 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
OK, so it seems there's something strange with PolicyKit. What does 'ps ax |
grep polkit' reports? Please also run
pkcheck --action-id org.freedesktop.systemtoolsbackends.set --process `pidof
users-admin` -u
just after having started users-amin.
What does this command reports:
pkaction --action-id org.freedesktop.systemtoolsbackends.set --verbose

Are you able to authenticate when configuring network connections? From
System-Administration-Network Connections, please edit or create a
connection, and check the box Available to all users. It should then
prompt you to authenticate (then you can just cancel).

[Bug 478274] [NEW] cannot mount usb volumes: Not authorized

2009-11-08 Thread David Decotigny
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

My machine (amd64) was running fine under jaunty (amd64) until
yesterday, when I upgraded to Karmic. Things seem to run well, except
for (at least) a devkit/policykit problem.

When I plug a USB memory stick, a window shows up telling me that the
volume cannot be mounted because I'm Not authorized. This stick could
be mounted OK on the jaunty 64 before, and can be mounted OK on another
machine (amd64) on which I installed karmic from scratch yesterday. So
I'd say it's an upgrade problem. But I cannot manage to determine where
the permissions are managed.

I tried devkit-disks --mount ... by hand and, effectively, it tells me:
shelldevkit-disks --mount /dev/sdc1
Mount failed: Not Authorized

I don't see any big difference with my working other karmic machine. In
particular, I belong to the same /etc/group groups.

However, when trying:
shell polkit-auth --show-obtainable
on the failing machine, the output is empty.
If I run the same on the working karmic, I get 4 lines:
org.freedesktop.policykit.read
org.freedesktop.policykit.revoke
org.freedesktop.policykit.grant
org.freedesktop.policykit.modify-defaults
Comparing the strace outputs from both machines didn't show me any conclusive
differences.

Another problem which might (not ?) be related: when I try users-
admin, the small key icon at the bottom tells me that I am Not
authorized to make changes. It happens that this is working as expected
on the other karmic64 machine.

I also noticed another problem, which might (not ?) be related: when I
try to suspend the machine (user menu / suspend), all it does is fire up
the screen saver. Likewise, when trying restart or shutdown, all it
does is log me out and bring me to the gdm screen. I suspect another
authorization problem which forbids me to perform system-wide actions.
It happens that all this is working as expected on the other karmic64
machine.

related to yelp. Of course it doesn't have anything to do with yelp.
IMHO, it's probably more related to devkit pour policykit.

[Bug 478291] [NEW] mouse curser wait, then directory empty

2009-11-08 Thread janmartin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When starting in me clicking through the directories to this one:

/home/me/Azureus Downloads/off

the mouse cursor is like hourglass-style forever, and files in the
subdirectories will not be displayed at all.

Closing Nautilus seems to work, but there is a Nautilus left when checking the
System Monitor.
I need to End it manually to start a new Nautilus, that might work for a while,
or not.

[Bug 478296] [NEW] nautilus ext3 file display issue

2009-11-08 Thread steros
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

drwxr-xr-x 2 steros steros 4096 2009-11-08 13:29 .

Annie Mac on BBC Radio One.mp3
-rw-r--r-- 1 steros steros15407 2009-05-17 21:03 folder.jpg

Nautilus needs ages to display this folder content.
And when it has finished loading it will not display folder.jpg although in
other folders it does.
But on some random behavior. Cause sometimes it loads the whole folder content
very quickly and then not.

[Bug 478306] Re: Evolution not keeping the group and sort order in ToDo's

2009-11-08 Thread ClaudioRJ
Another information:
I use Evolution in my netbook, and I backup it's data to a pendrive, and once
in a while I restore it to work in my desktop.

My netbook still has Ubuntu 9.04 (as my ONDA 3G modem did not work in
Karmic).

So, I do not know if this sort/group by problem could be happening by
restoring data from Evolution 2.26.1 version. I open this bug just after
restoring 2.26.1 data to 2.28.1 version.

2009-11-08 Thread Luca Falavigna
Thanks for reporting this bug and any supporting documentation. Since
this bug has enough information provided for a developer to begin work,
I'm going to mark it as confirmed and let them handle it from here.
Thanks for taking the time to make Ubuntu better!

[Bug 441638] Re: upstart job keeps restarting a dying gdm

2009-11-08 Thread Alan Johnson
Yep, the blinking is fixed for me on a fresh install of Karmic server (I
wanted RAID6 support at install) with ubuntu-desktop installed. The gdm
package gets my OK for moving to updates. 'cause, you know, I know you
were waiting for /my/ OK, right? =)

2009-11-08 Thread Jeev
Public bug reported:

Similar to the previous problem described below in the group's
discussions: Am facing shutdown problem in 9.10 release.. upgraded it
from 9.04 about two days ago.. The system hangs while shutting down.. I
do not get any specific script while the system hangs (I tried force
shutdown after waiting for about 30 mins).. Any ideas on how to correct
this?
