[Bug 477915] Re: AisleRiot Solitaire Crashes GNOME! ... Ubuntu goes to login GDM screen
I meant to write more information in the comment above, but here it is: I have a family member who uses Ubuntu exclusively and enjoys playing Solitaire for hours on end. Her computer has been crashing quite often. I'm not usually around to witness it, but every time I asked, she responds saying that all she was doing was playing Solitaire and she doesn't know what else happened. Everything was stable in Ubuntu 9.04 with almost exactly the same configuration. Additionally, Compiz is disabled if that makes a difference. -- AisleRiot Solitaire Crashes GNOME! ... [Bug 478178] [NEW] Empathy is almost impossible to set as a startup application
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: empathy Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic) Empathy 2.28.1.1 Since I like to have my messenger clients running whenever I'm online I wanted to set that to happen automaticaly. So here's what I tried: * I looked in the preferences of Empathy, and appart from the confusing entry Automatically connect on startup described in bug #322314 there is nothing about connecting. * I looked under 'System Preferences Startup applications', there is no entry for Empathy so Itry to make one... * The file browser starts in my home directory so I assume there's a good reason for that and try to find an entry there for empathy. Sadly there's no entry there called empathy. * Luckily I know a bit about this Ubuntu thing and the Gnome Desktop so I look into the .gnome2 directory. Finally a directory called Empathy. But sadly that only has log files in it. * Thinking I'm a bit savvy I navigate to /usr/share/empathy ... but again there is no file I can point to to start empathy ... * Now I'm getting annoyed, nothing useful in /usr/share/gnome/autostart * Nothing in /usr/share/gnome2 * /usr/bin/empathy looks promising - maybe I'll be lucky this time. The shutdown bug is being discussed here : https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network- manager/+bug/211631?comments=all, but there's no fix as yet. The umountcifs.sh script does still work, but as I say, Network Manager drops the WIFI connection far, far too early in the shutdown process for it to have any impact. Seems to be a change from Jaunty to Karmic in how the shutdown scripts are processed - possibly upstart related, since even running umountcifs in K01 is quick enough. -- smb: Error while copying file, Invalid argument https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/393012 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Raf and Pedro is partly right. [Bug 478274] [NEW] cannot mount usb volumes: Not authorized

This stick could be mounted OK on the jaunty 64 before, and can be mounted OK on another machine (amd64) on which I installed karmic from scratch yesterday. So I'd say it's an upgrade problem. But I cannot manage to determine where the permissions are managed. I tried devkit-disks --mount ... by hand and, effectively, it tells me: shelldevkit-disks --mount /dev/sdc1 Mount failed: Not Authorized I don't see any big difference with my working other karmic machine. In particular, I belong to the same /etc/group groups. However, when trying: shell polkit-auth --show-obtainable on the failing machine, the output is empty. If I run the same on the working karmic, I get 4 lines: org.freedesktop.policykit.read org.freedesktop.policykit.revoke org.freedesktop.policykit.grant org.freedesktop.policykit.modify-defaults Comparing the strace outputs from both machines didn't show me any conclusive differences. Another problem which might (not ?) be related: when I try users- admin, the small key icon at the bottom tells me that I am Not authorized to make changes. It happens that this is working as expected on the other karmic64 machine. I also noticed another problem, which might (not ?) be related: when I try to suspend the machine (user menu / suspend), all it does is fire up the screen saver. Likewise, when trying restart or shutdown, all it does is log me out and bring me to the gdm screen. I suspect another authorization problem which forbids me to perform system-wide actions. It happens that all this is working as expected on the other karmic64 machine. [Bug 478306] Re: Evolution not keeping the group and sort order in ToDo's
Another information: I use Evolution in my netbook, and I backup it's data to a pendrive, and once in a while I restore it to work in my desktop. My netbook still has Ubuntu 9.04 (as my ONDA 3G modem did not work in Karmic). So, I do not know if this sort/group by problem could be happening by restoring data from Evolution 2.26.1 version.
