[Bug 480548] [NEW] firefox zip file open

2009-11-11 Thread michaelcole
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: file-roller

Hello, firefox can't open zip archives.

http://dompdf.googlecode.com/files/dompdf-0.5.1.zip

Doesn't work when I select open in the download dialog.

If I run file-roller from alt-f2, I can open the file if I save it
first.

Seems like a simple config error.

Thanks!

Mike

[Bug 441638] Re: upstart job keeps restarting a dying gdm

2009-11-11 Thread Steve Langasek
That bug appears to be a problem with failsafe X not working correctly
on the user's system, but there's no information there about why gdm is
failing in the first place. I think this needs to be triaged further
before concluding that we shouldn't proceed with this SRU (OTOH, we also
shouldn't publish this SRU until it's resolved).

[Bug 479897] Re: postscript error on print

2009-11-11 Thread Max Berger
Dear WetherGod,

I would like to run the new kernel, but this is not an option due to bug
#479897

What I forgot to mention in the original post: The printer is on a
network, attached on a remote cups server. So I believe the kernel has
nothing to do with this.

After some more investigation, this could be related to:
evince (2.28.0-0ubuntu3) karmic; urgency=low
  * debian/patches/80_revert_pdf_printing.patch:
- don't use pdf printing for karmic to wokaround cairo pdfs creating
  issues (lp: #443026)

evince now produces PS without knowing what printer I have, and
therefore may insert the offending 0a

[Bug 255768] Re: evolution asking for a password, even though it should be remembered

2009-11-11 Thread gray
second update

this time definitely evolution is the issue.

a pop-up happened asking for evolution to get permission to access the
keyring - I hit deny and then the type in your password dialogue
appears, BUT the password IS already there...

it would appear that the delay of the email server responding causes
evolution to request the password, in this instance.

[Bug 480567] [NEW] Totem Title bar buttons malfunction - Navigation Buttons are hidden/do not display

2009-11-11 Thread rseascaoe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Playing Movies (avi) on Totem, the navigation buttons disappear. I
originally thought this was a nautilus problem, but I noticed that it
happens more frequently when using Totem. This bug was present in
Jaunty64 as well as Karmic64. The Close/Min/Max buttons are non existent
sometimes; double clicking the title bar and rolling the window up and
down will cause the buttons to re-appear.

Note: Fusion-Icon with Emerald installed Using 45543-Wombat_Blue.Emerald
theme from gnome looks.org. Decorator:Emerald, Window Manager: Compiz.

This is re-produce-able and frequently occurs. This is a persistent bug.
Also, screenshot saved to the desktop and other files disapear and are
not visible until a reboot.

Also a workaround is to set up PostScript printers with a PCL driver
(pxlcolor, pxlmono, hpijs), if for your printer such a driver is not
listed, use the Generic printer entries: PCL 6/PCL XL and if this
does not work PCL 5c for color printers and PCL 5e for monochrome
printers.

2009-11-11 Thread Till Kamppeter
Justin Mazzola Paluska, what does exactly happen if you print the file?
Do you get an error message page? What does the page show? If you do not
get an error message page, activate error message page printing via the
front panel menus or the web interface (web interface needs printer to
be connected via network). Then print again and post the message of the
error message page here.

Please tell us also if you can print the file with alternative programs
like okular or Adobe Reader.

[Bug 461918] Re: Evince fails to print this PDF

2009-11-11 Thread Clemens Brunner
I can confirm this problem. I reported this as a new bug #479949, you
can find another PDF that is not working there. Short summary: this
problem occurs only on the 64-bit version of Ubuntu and not on the
32-bit version. Moreover, Adobe Reader prints those problematic PDFs
just fine (maybe because it's a 32-bit version?).

[Bug 33288] Re: Evince doesn't handle columns properly

2009-11-11 Thread Brian Ewins
David #19: you say it perhaps recognizes column stuff from the display
layout instead of the internal representation.

In PDF, the internal representation *is* just the display layout.
Internally, poppler tries to divide this text into blocks (roughly
paragraphs) which are then grouped into columns based on spacing, and
independently into 'flows' (roughly, sequences of similar blocks in
reading order), based on a bunch of heuristics. This is already tricky,
but is made more complicated by text rotation, and different writing
systems (vertical, right to left, etc). Acrobat and Apple's Preview use
different heuristics, so they group text differently, and make a mess of
things on different documents - but they still make a mess of things.

Just explaining what's going on here; this isn't to say that text
selection can't be improved. I'm slowly putting together a patch based
on the reading order sort described in http://pubs.iupr.org/#2003
-breuel-sdiut , which seems to be fixing some of the problems with the
attachment in #7. However as I said to Andres I have no idea when or if
my patches would be accepted.

[Bug 450546] Re: usb flash drive fails to automount

2009-11-11 Thread Nico Isenbeck
Hi Martin,

You'll find the output of the above mentioned command attached.

Maybe you need some more information about my drives?
sda1: ext3 /
sda5: encrypted swap
sdb1: external usb hard disk (truecrypt device/volume) for backups. Without
beeing mounted with truecrypt there are no filesystem or partitions visible.
Could this be a problem?
sdc1: usb flash drive with automount problems

I also recognized that the truecrypt usb drive starts up sometimes
without accessing it. With Ubuntu 8.10 the drive sleeped the whole day
and only waked up when my backup cronjob started. Is it possible that
devkit tries to mount this usb drive without success because there seems
to be no filesystem on it? After i typed in your last command the drive
also started up.

At startup the drum beat for login is heard, hence the sound device is
detected and activated. While starting up the desktop no sound is heard.
I checked sound preferences by dragging the mouse pointer on the icon
and the correct sound device is shown. But the moment I start sound
preferences and check the device, it is shown, suddenly disappears and
the icon tip shows me Dummy output instead of the correct sound
device.

Maybe this is of extra help solving this problem.

for some time now I have been receiving these emails. However I became
connected with the Bug, I am not sure. I am sure, however, that I do not
have the technical expertise to cope with the issues. Please, therefore,
arrange for me to be taken form the list.

Thank you

[Bug 480600] [NEW] Xchat-Gnome's menus in nonstandard order

2009-11-11 Thread Juha Siltala
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xchat-gnome

The standard order of application/window menus in GNOME apps seems to be:
file/action - edit - view - application specific menus - help.

The xchat-gnome window has the view menu just before help:
irc - edit - application specific menus - view -help.

The ordering of menus should be constant across the desktop, so that
they're more easily discoverable.

[Bug 478178] Re: Empathy is almost impossible to set as a startup application

2009-11-11 Thread Duncan Lithgow
Can I suggest that until/unless a long term solution is found we set the
dialog at 'System Preferences Startup Application Startup Programs
Add' to open by default to /usr/bin? That seems to be the most
reliable solution for now. This 'adding startup applications' has in
reality been a general bug for years now. Surely it's time to do
something?

[Bug 203885] Re: Can't see remote video

2009-11-11 Thread chrisV
I am not going to get much more out of this at the moment as my windows-
using contact wants to try skype to avoid the faffing about.

Is it worth my posting a bug upstream and anything further I can
provide? I think though that you (Yannick Defais) already are
'upstream' so to speak.

[Bug 479493] Re: NTP services installation crashes

2009-11-11 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
Thanks for your report. I think you were right, this is a problem in ntp
and not in the gnome-system-tools. But luckily, I believe I've already
seen this problem, which has its root cause in yet another package (gdm-
guest-session).

The interesting part of the log is:
 Setting up ntp (1:4.2.4p6+dfsg-1ubuntu5) ...
useradd: cannot lock /etc/passwd; try again later.
 adduser: `/usr/sbin/useradd -d /home/ntp -g ntp -s /bin/false -u 117 ntp'
 returned error code 1. Exiting.

One workaround is to remove /etc/passwd.lock, and then to run 'sudo dpkg
--configure -a'. I think you're suffering from bug 432964. Can you
confirm the workaround is the right one?

[Bug 480637] [NEW] Impossible to add new MSN contact

2009-11-11 Thread Carroarmato0
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

When adding a new MSN contact to the list, as soon as I stop writing
anything for about 2 seconds, Empathy replaces everything with my own
contact information making it impossible to add any other contact.

** What's expected to happen **
Enter the new contact's information like email address, alias (nickname) and
eventually a group.

** What happens instead **
Empathy replaces all the information with my own information (email, nick and
group) after 2 seconds when not writing anything.
